#krizWandersInTaiwan: Getting around TAIPEI CITY
So getting around in Taiwan is easy with all the mode of transportations that they have, bus, MRT and taxi. If you're not sure about the bus routes that you will have to take or you're trying to save some money and you don't want to take a cab, your best option is to take the METRO-TAIPEI, their railway transportation.
So METRO TAIPEI has 5 lines (SEE MAP HERE), there's the brown, red, green, yellow and blue line. And all are connected to each other, so it's easy to transfer and also you can take these if you're going to the airport from your place.
You will know how if you will continue to read this blog. So what I'm going to share to you is our 6 day itinerary trip routes:
DAY 1: - Arrival at TAOYUAN AIRPORT - TAIPEI MAIN STATION - MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART Taipei (MOCA TAIPEI)
TAOYUAN AIRPORT
So from the airport, you can get to the Taipei CIty by taking the HSR train from the airport going to Taipei Main Station, it will take more than one hour to get there from the airport.
FARE: 120NT
NOTE: Taking the HSR train from the airport could also take you to the provinces of Taiwan like if you want to go to the university which METEOR GARDEN TOOK PLACE.
TAIPEI MAIN STATION From here, you can take the MRT going to your place, just remember that TAIPEI MAIN STATION is a transfer line, it is connected to the 4 other lines of MRT.
Fare range: 20NT-45NT
NOTE: * Price varies, depending on the distance. * There is a designated seat for PWD/Elders so make sure that you don't occupy that (Blue seat) and a place for wheelchairs (Check the signage)
Day 2:
- TAIPEI ZOO - MAOKONG GONDOLA - CHIANG KAI SHEK MEMORIAL HALL - XIMENDING - SHILIN NIGHT MARKET
TAIPEI ZOO Take the brown line or Wenhu line if you're going to Taipei zoo. It is the last station in the brown line.
So we came from the Shipai station (red line), so we dropped off at Daan station, to transfer to the brown line going to Taipei Zoo station.
*NOTE: If you're in another line, just take off at the transfer station, you can see that as you enter the train, there's an indicator which station you're currently in and that will blink as the train stops to the next station, they will announce if it's a transfer line. So make sure to listen carefully.
MAOKONG GONDOLA There are two ways to get here, first is if you're already inside the taipei zoo, there is a train that will take you to the station wherein you can ride a gondola going to Maokong.
The other way is if you don't want to get inside the taipei zoo, from the brown line taipei zoo station, you can just walk right to the station outside the taipei zoo and ride a gondola going to Maokong.
Fare: From Taipei zoo (inside): 5NT for the transfer 70NT Gondola ride from Taipei Zoo to Maokong
Outside Taipei zoo going to Maokong: 120 NT
(See here for updated fares)
CHIANG KAI-SHEK MEMORIAL HALL To get here, you can take either the red line (Tamsui-Xinyi line) or the green line (Songshan-Xindian line), just drop off at the Chiang Kai-Shek memorial hall and from there, as you exit the station you can already see the memorial hall.
NOTE: Since we came from Taipei zoo (brown line) what we did was we transferred from brown line to red line in Taipei Main Station to get here.
You don't have to exit the station when you transfer, all you have to do is to look for the line station that you are going to transfer.
XIMENDING To get here, you can take either the blue or green line, it depends where you are. Just drop off the ximen station, and from there as you exit the station you can already see the streets going to Ximending night market, just walk around you can also see the Red house.
Note: We came from Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial hall, since you can ride the green or red line from here, we took the green line to get here, it's just 2 stations away.
SHILIN NIGHT MARKET To get here, take the red line and drop off at the Shilin station and from there you can just walk going to the night market.
DAY 3:
TAIPEI 101/TAIPEI 101 Mall
To get here, take the red line and drop off at the Taipei 101/World Trade Center station. You can also take the blue line and drop off at the Taipei City Hall station, and just walk to the Taipei 101 mall.
NOTE: If you're not fond of walking, take the red line because as you exit the station, the mall is already right in front of you. The blue line is just an alternate way.
Since it's New Year's eve when we went here, and after the midnight fireworks at the Taipei 101, there are a lot of people taking the red line, so the other option that we have is to walk to the Taipei City Hall station for us to be able to take the train. We were lucky enough that they extended their operating hours during that time (New Year's day), so we were able to take the train at 2AM.
TIGER ROAR @ UNI-PRESIDENT INTERNATIONAL BLDG It is just located near the Taipei City Hall, so if you're going here, best option is to take the blue line.
DAY 4:
TAMSUI OLD STREET To get here, take the red line and drop off at the Tamsui station, it is the last station in the red line. As you exit the station, you can just walk to get to the old street.
LOVER’S BRIDGE @ FISHERMAN’S WHARF From Tamsui station, you can ride a bus or taxi going to Lover's Bridge, you can also ride a boat in the old street to get here.
Fare: Bus: 15NT (Travel time: 30-45mins)
*BUS ROUTE: R-26 (BEST ROUTE), 826 or 857
NOTE: There's an officer at the station whom you can ask where to ride the bus, and which route to take. There's a tourist information center at the train station, so if you're not sure where to go, you can simply ask them.
Taxi: about 200NT (Travel time: 10mins) Boat: 60NT
DAY 5:
LONGSHAN TEMPLE Take the blue line and drop off at Longshan Temple station, as you exit the station just walk a little bit and you can see the temple already.
BOPILIAO HISTORY BLOCK This is nearby the Longshan temple, and one of the attractions of Wanhua district.
228 PEACE MEMORIAL PARK, NATIONAL TAIWAN MUSEUM and LANDBANK EXHIBITION HALL
To get here, take the red line and drop off at NTU Hospital station, from there you can just walk to 228 Peace Memorial Park and the two museums.
From 228 Peace Memorial Park, you will see the National Taiwan Museum first and across it on the left side is the Landbank Exhibition Hall.
TIGER SUGAR @ XUCHANG ST There are two ways to get here, it's either you walk from Taipei Main station (blue or red line), or if you are already from the Landbank Exhibition Hall, you can just walk along the streets going to Xuchang St and you will find their store.
DAY 6:
CENTRAL PARK To get here, drop off at Taipei Main Station and just walk going to Shuhong East Road Section, near Jieyun Rd.
TAIPEI BOTANICAL GARDEN There are two options going here, you can either take the red line going to Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial station, or you can take the green line going to Xiaonanmen Station.
From Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial station (Red line/Green line) you can walk going to Taipei Botanical Garden (if you're fond of walking, and you also want to visit other places nearby such as the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, 228 Peace Park, National Taiwan Museum and Landbank Exhibition Hall)
But the easiest way to get here is by taking the green line going to Xiaonanmen station and just walk a little going to the botanical garden.
So that's how we got around the city of Taipei. Hope this helps!

kriz Wanders in Taiwan: New Year Escape 2019 (part 2)
DAY 4: - TAMSUI OLD STREET - LOVER'S BRIDGE @ FISHERMAN'S WHARF
TAMSUI OLD STREET is a food heaven and a very good place to buy your souvenirs and PASALUBONG. The street food is yummy and the price is cheap.

LOVER'S BRIDGE is a romantic place where in you can enjoy the sunset, and you can have a boat ride going back to the Tamsui train station, vice versa.
Getting to Lover's bridge: Bus ride: 30 to 45 mins Taxi ride: 10mins
NOTE: We tried both, it's just that getting a bus ride is cheaper (15NT) compared to a taxi ride (200NT)
DAY 5: - LONGSHAN TEMPLE - BOPILIAO HISTORY BLOCK - 228 PEACE MEMORIAL PARK - NATIONAL TAIWAN MUSEUM - LANDBANK EXHIBITION HALL - TIGER SUGAR @ XUCHANG ST

LONGSHAN TEMPLE
There's a saying that if you enter using the right gate, you should go out using the left gate because it's not lucky to go out using the same gate.
