I had some free time and wanted to spread the love so here is a list of Schitt’s Creek fics that I have been loving so far this month!! The tags have been stacked with new writing this month so I thought this would shine a light on some of the ones that might have been missed! This isn’t a complete list but is just generally the ones I think deserve more attention! Some of these are WIPS, and let me know if I’ve missed tagging anyone!

This is an AU where Patrick was the one who was rich and then lost all of his money and ended up in Schitt’s Creek. It’s SUCH an interesting twist on the normal characters and storyline and the way Patrick reacts to his surroundings is simultaneously in character and horrifyingly out of character!

One of my favourite SC writers and one of my favourite fics that I never knew I wanted. A high school AU where David and Patrick are teenage boyfriends, it was just perfect and NOWHERE NEAR enough, I could read about this different spin all day!

The femslash fics don’t get enough attention in general as it is but who knew I could get so emotionally attached to Rachel and an Original Character! Seriously, this is a poignant and beautiful exploration of sapphic revelation and something I fully accept as canon from now on

She’s back at it again with ficlets per day and every single one is better than the last! There is fluff, domestic sweetness and just a little bit of smut and it’s made for such amazing reading every day of the month so far!

This was just the perfect bit of fluff for an early morning read. Filled with such sweetness and domesticity that cannot be compared.

Anyone who knows me knows that I am NOT an angst reader on the regular but GOD this fic was incredible. I am a massive fan of It’s a Wonderful Life and this gave me all those feels at once. The way anxiety and stress were handled were both truly lovely and the ending just made everything okay in the best kind of way!

This was the characterised fluff I never knew I needed. So specific and yet so general about David’s feelings clearing out the motel and moving to the next step in his life. Their relationship and also the tokens of family was just so so lovely and I read it like 5 times.

We Are Nowhere and It’s Now by This_Will_Be_Our_Year (WIP)

This apocalypse era AU has been grossly overlooked. The world building and tension is really magnificent and it has made for such a great read!! I highly recommend!

This is part of a series of “Tough Talks”, every single one is incredible, I know I’ve already mentioned one of yours but I had to mention this one as well!! Go read it, it’s beautiful, I’m obsessed.

It Takes But A Moment by @maxbegone

Technically this is cutting it close but it was still completed in September. It’s incredible, and I am generally not a soulmate AU fan but this fic tore my heart to pieces and then stitched it back up again. Truly wonderful retelling of their story and I cannot preach about it enough.

This seems like a good place to stop but there are SO many more fics I could recommend, we truly are a very lucky fandom! I haven’t been writing a lot recently so I’ve had lots of time to catch up on anything and these are the ones I want to draw the most attention to. Let me know if there are any recs you want or anything else you’d like to see and I’m sure I will end up doing one of these again sometime soon as incredible fics continue to be rolled out!

I am so proud of this one. I wanted to look at David and Sebastien’s relationship and where some of his damage came from. Yes, it’s dark, but it’s got the happy ending David (and Patrick) deserve.

I thought ‘David needed someone from his past that wasn’t terrible and for him to realize someone has always cared about him, even at his worst and when he had no idea there was someone on his side.

It’s smut.  But, you know, smut with feelings. It was my first attempt at David/Patrick sexy times and I am most pleased with the way it turned out.

FROM FRIENDS & NEIGHBORS

The farm witches love spending time around the cauldron, but sometimes we like to borrow recipes from our neighbors in town, too. We can’t help it, we crave Jocelyn’s Dorito Casserole every now and then as well. Recipe after the cut!

You’ll need: 

1 pound lean ground beef

½ yellow onion diced

1 teaspoon minced garlic

1 packet taco seasoning

12 ounce bag frozen corn

14.5 ounce can petite diced tomatoes with green chilies (not drained)

1 cup sour cream

2 cups finely crushed Doritos

1 cup loosely crushed Doritos

3 cups Mexican blend cheese

1 cup black beans

Sliced green onions diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, avocado, sour cream for garnish (optional)*

(* Some of us are picky witches and will leave out the ingredients we don’t like and we support you doing the same!)

To make this delish dish:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Spray 9×13 dish with nonstick spray.

Gently crush the chips, set aside. Two cups should be crushed fine, more like bread crumbs and one cup should be larger chunks, to be spread on top at the end. (You can put them in a Ziploc gallon bag and crush with your hands.)

In a large skillet cook the ground beef and onions. Drain.

Add the garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes.

Add the frozen corn, taco seasoning, tomatoes with chiles, black beans, and two cups of finely crushed chips. 

Remove from heat. Stir in the sour cream and two cups of cheese.

Pour into greased casserole dish and place in oven. Bake 5-10 minutes, until warmed through.

Add one cup of cheese on top, then one cup of loosely crushed Doritos and bake another five minutes until cheese is melted.

Remove from oven and serve warm!
