01. the head

( taika longwei ) would describe ( herself ) as a ( spring ) person and would identify as a ( estp / neutral good ). 02. the heart

according to all of the legends she was taught as a young girl, the chinese triad stems from an ancient brotherhood that was known as the heaven and earth association during the qing dynasty. a group of buddhist monks from the shaolin monastery were asked to defend the emperor from barbarian armies taking over and had done just that, defeating the heavily weaponized armies with their hand to hand combat without losing a single man. once the emperor caught wind of their tactile abilities, he grew wary and commanded his armies take them down by burning the monastery to the ground in the dead of night. while the blazing fire took out the majority of the monks, five had managed to escape. on their tireless journey to evade the emperor’s troops, they discovered a incense burner with an inscription that read ‘overthrow the qing, restore the ming.’ the shaolin monks believed they were sent a mandate from heaven to restore china to the rightful ming dynasty placing power to those native to the land.

for years after that, the society quickly grew throughout all reaches of china where the lower class of people sought a shift in power through righteous rebellion against the qing dynasty. the brotherhood inducted members through a ceremony where they would cross beneath two swords into the realm of the brotherhood followed by a ritual sacrifice. each new member inducted swore an oath vowing to never betray the secrets of the brotherhood. the rebellion sparked an uproar of crime that sought wealth, power, and control that remain true to the triad today. of course these were only legends, but they had withstood the test of time. it was these stories and morals that taika had been taught as a child, to restore and maintain power to those who it rightfully belonged.

long before she was ever born, the longwei family was amongst the first families inducted into the triad as they sought protection through loyalty. the triad never deterred from those promises of protection so long as they followed the morals of the society. they were commanded the drug market that quickly became embedded in the heart of hong kong. their reign of power came fully into fruition during the late nineteenth century due to their production of the earliest forms of what is known as diamond dust today, the most sought out drug by the wealthiest stake holders in all of china. where there was money, there was power. and so the longwei family claimed their rightful place as the great dragon head of the triad, unsurprisingly living up to their family name.

with each new generation that had been born into this power came a new dragon head in the form of the eldest sons. china had always been known particularly well for the patriarchy and assuming the roles in power were the men that had been molded from birth. every generation had a son that would continue to hold the power until their son would take it from them. when taika’s father met her mother, he considered her to be the most beautiful woman in all of china. and while her beauty was radiant, it was her spirit and tenacity that caused him to fall even more in love with her. she was filled with a sort of compassion that had made the hardened man soften during their time together. no woman had ever held his heart as much as she had and when it was time for them to start a family, the couple could not be more excited. but in sparking romance, there was always the chance that they would burn out too quickly and this was the case for the young couple. the pregnancy for taika’s mother was particularly trying, causing the woman to become bedridden during the late second and throughout the third trimester. as much as the couple hoped she would live to see the product of their love, her mother knew she was likely never going to get the chance to meet their beautiful baby. the couple hoped for a boy, the next dragon heir, but when a young girl with a thick head of hair was born and the mother died during delivery, her father suddenly realized that his daughter was sign of times changing.

the passing of his wife left the dragon head devastated, though he gave his daughter the name of her mother and believed that her gracious spirit and tenacity was passed down to their daughter and she would become the first woman to be the great dragon head of the chinese triad. taika longwei could not have been born at the right time. as the only daughter of the dragon head, she was raised from the moment she took her first breaths that she would be the spearhead into a new era of leaders without limitations of being the eldest son. she was given all of the same resources and teachings that the generations had before her. because her mother had made waves within the community, they all accepted that taika was the rightful heir to the dragon head and never doubted that she would be exactly what they needed to bring the triad into its current era.

even when she was a child, her father could see many of the same qualities her mother had reflected in their daughter. she carried a sort of sophistication that could not be taught. her drive and determination quickly set her apart from all of the rest. she had always been remarkably smart, and that continued to show as she excelled in every subject thrown at her. from her combat skills to her ability to learn the english language to act as a sort of translator when talks of moving a tier of the triad to new york came to fruition, there was seemingly nothing the girl couldn’t pick up on. even if she had not been born into the longwei dynasty, everyone was sure she would have climbed the ranks herself and claimed her position as the new dragon head. she had been the perfect fit for the life she was born into and while her father was well respected and an excellent leader, he attributed all of her skills to her mother knowing that without her, their daughter would have never stood a chance. being at her father’s right hand for most of her young adulthood, she deeply understood the intricacies of the triad. she had spent years studying the history, tracing her lineage, and she worked closely with those at the forefront of research for their nearly perfected diamond dust.

as their sights were set for the western world, taika was the only clear choice to introduce the triad to the gold mountain— new york city. her father would stay behind and continue running the triad as the dragon head in hong kong, but he had no doubt that taika would do what she had always done by being the perfect fit for leadership in the new world. he allowed her to build her team of associates, mostly women who were apart of the utmost loyal families in the triad, aside from his most trusted advisor who would complete the journey with her and help out in every way that he could. while her father told her she could run the triad how she wanted in america by securing the drug market and the beloved blue moon diamond, he asked her to do one thing as a favor to a woman he had grown fond of after her mother’s death. his one wish was to locate lilianna shu lei and to take her under her wing and provide the protection that he could never give her mother. taika vowed to him that she would do just that to further prove her loyalty to the triad and her father.

her first months in new york sent a shock throughout the city. people began talking about the triad and referred to the boss as ‘the dragon’ due to her fierceness and how quickly she managed to take control of a small part of the market. throughout history, the triad has been known to be fickle and change alliances if their current ones did not follow through with their promises, but taika had arrived in new york with the intention of seeking one mob in particular to help them take control and have more stakes in manhattan. while china town was a given, she wanted more claims and the italians stood in the way of her growth. with some research, she quickly learned of the turmoil between the italians and the irish. taika reached out to alexander barrett in a hope to ally with them swearing loyalty to their cause if they were ever called upon.

taika hopes that this alliance will help prove that the triad is far superior than the other mafia’s and that no one should come between the dragon and her wrath.

Arabella’s heart fluttered nervously within her ribcage as she stepped into The Dragon’s Den. This wasn’t the first time she had been there, to act as a mouthpiece for her mother, but the very thought of who her audience would be would make her face flush and stomach drop, especially knowing what she did of Liling’s ambitions. Her adoration of the Triad’s Dragon Head ran deep and as far back as she could remember, since she had first taken the reins of the organization and led them to take New York City by storm. Perhaps her feelings were foolish, child-like even, but when Taika Longwei was involved, Arabella just simply couldn’t come to grips with herself at all. 

She made her way to the VIP section, sparing only the briefest glance at the staff as she walked by. Perhaps if she had been of a lower position, they would have thought to stop her. But with a face that had been plastered across the billboards of New York City, and a last name that tied her to one of the highest ranking officers among them, Arabella rarely had issues accessing the senior members of the Triad. Regardless, the sheer amount of slack they provided her was...unnerving, and something that the Dragon’s Head would need to know about. If it didn’t run so contrary to Liling’s plans, she might have made a decision to speak up about it. But for now, the oversight would be for her eyes and hers alone. Until there was an opportunity.

The model found her leader waiting, and for a moment she hesitated. But Liling had trained her well, had broken her in like a well-bred steed, and she found herself continuing onwards before she could let the doubt sink in again. Arabella plastered a polite smile onto her face, making sure that Taika could see her approach before bowing deeply. “Wǒ mǔqīn xiàng tā wènhǎo. Liling Li Liu fell ill last night, so she has sent me in her place, to be her eyes and ears, and to speak with her voice.” A part of her was afraid to look up, but the fear of what her mother would think if she botched this meeting forced her to be brave whether she liked it or not. “I hope I can be a suitable replacement in her absence. She did not want you to wait, given how quickly news has been developing over the past few days.”

Aren’t there always? I’m personally very interested to see where this date leads Rowan and Charles–maybe he needs a friend on the force to make an honest man out of him? And I’m always interested in Noah and Catarina, of course–will they rekindle their romance at the upcoming Golightly gala, or are they doomed to remain exes with an unreasonable amount of sexual tension?

I’d like to see if Taika and Monica go anywhere; will the Dragon bow to another mafia’s informant, or will Monica’s double agent status finally produce a thorn in the side of the Chinese Triad? And what is going on with Nathalie and Feliks? I’ve been eyeing that one with a set of goggles, if I’m being frank.

favorite brotps?

Baby and Ana make a quite formidable pair--perhaps opposites attract in the best of ways? I’m also keen on seeing more of Christian and Thomas’ close relationship; once you make friends in the NYPD, you make friends for life. The Chinese Triad has their own fair share of tight-knit relationships, but none that intrigue me quite as much as that of Taika and Henry. Henry’s gone to bat for Taika more than once in the past, but will things get shaken up now that the diamond war has officially begun? Catarina and Viktor also have a close and special relationship; I wonder if he’ll ever realize that her feelings aren’t entirely platonic?
