horses are super weird but genetically any white horse you see is either grey or cream colored- a grey horse starts out with pigmented skin and hair that lightens overtime (like a human going 'grey' is how I've always seen it) and a cream horse has an off-white (extremely light pinkish-brown) coat and pink skin. any horses born white die within a matter of a few hours to a maximum of about a week. the white gene carries a mutation that affects the endothelial cells leading to a non-functioning colon and an extremely painful death but is recessive enough that this a rare occurrence.
