i'm rewatching that series of videos on final fantasy vii's translation and localization again and i'm just remembering why it made me fall in love with the idea of that game, and why i'm so excited to actually be able to play the remake

the english translation is a mess, but through dissecting a lot of the original japanese text and going in-depth with its tone and personality indicators just makes it obvious how much love and care was put into bringing these characters to life

and now that it has been over 20 years since that bad english translation, we can see these characters in english in a light much closer to what was actually intended, and i love that. i had already seen a bunch of clips from remake back when it first came out, and it just makes me so happy to see the huge leap in quality and difference between the weird and stilted characters in the old game and these new iterations that feel like they're Alive. it's just so cool

#i'm babbling but it just fills my heart with joy #specifically about cloud but everyone else is included in the localization glow-up #i just. i love how cloud puts on this tough-guy act and tries to be this badass guy #but he is socially awkward and nervous around girls and stuff and is actually an emotionally complex guy #and just. augh. it makes me feel. am i in love with him or do i want to be him i don't know but he in particular makes me happiest #the other characters are significantly better too and i love that a lot as well but. m'boy #if you go through my #final fantasy #tag then you will see my previous gushing over cloud kjhjlk #i'm just reiterating it as i was reminded of it. god and now that i have remake for myself i can experience it firsthand. hell yeah
