Okay, but like, imagine the conversation that led Jax to dancing around a campfire yelling his name in the woods because you know Bubble probably came up with this mildly embarrassing plan and Ragatha made Jax follow through with lack of options.

Added embarrassment if Caine, uninvited they're not sure how he followed them, is just picking up sticks for the fire.

Jax: "I'm not doing this."

Bubble: "But it's funny!"

Caine: "What Bubble means is, 'You have to make sure she hears your name, don't you?' You can't write it or tell her directly, there are rules!"

Jax: "Why do you know so much about fae rules?"

Caine: "There's no time for that! Start singing! Shouting! Shoutinging, singouting!"

Jax: *the deepest and heaviest and angriest sigh known to man*

The first night, Jax asks for Pomni's necklace in exchange for spinning the straw. She's horrified and incredibly reluctant, but as he points out she's not exactly in a position to bargain and there's nothing else of interest that he wants.

The second night, Pomni just straight-up offers a ring Mildenhall gave her.

Which Jax is incredibly amused and low-key impressed by.

"Whoa-a-a-a, that's not even yours to give."

"I don't--"

"Giving away the rich a-hole's stuff, I like it! You got yourself a deal!"

Imagine how weird it must be for Kinger after everything though. The fae rabbit got his daughter into this mess, but now they’re also engaged. He got her in trouble but he also isn’t that bad. Must feel weird.

Oh it’s definitely a little awkward. Especially after they explain everything that happened.

Jax got her into this mess by pretending to be the king. But he also got her out of it.

He didn’t have to help her past the first night. But he did.

He gave her a way out of marrying Mildenhall. Not in the way he would have chosen but it was still an out.

And he’s not too bad, once you get past a few things…

Kinger will brag about his daughter being engaged to (and eventually marrying) a fae and say she charmed him with her amazing personality and cuteness, but he’s also going to ask Jax if he’s never going to get her into trouble like this again.

I'm just imagining the progression of Jax's reactions about the straw towers-

Jax, the first night, a large amount of straw: "Alright, let's do this. Otherwise, I'm pretty sure Rags will punt me."

Jax, second night, much larger amount: "Okay? I guess he just wants to check. Smart guy..."

Jax, third night, staring at the entire tower stuffed to the ceiling with straw, mildly panicking at the engagement news: "...did you do something to this man?!"

Pomni: "No?!"

HFKJDHFJSDF YEAH The first one is his fuck-up, the second one is annoying but he gets it, the third is just straight-up wtf.

Of course he's also kinda floored by the engagement news like

Listen, he doesn't consider himself a nice guy, but "So this guy locks you up for the night, three nights in a row, under threat of death or imprisonment if you don't do this clearly impossible-for-mortals task... and then he goes 'Yeah, let's get married when you're done!' and thinks you'll be fine with it?"

Pomni: "I mean, I guess I'm not in a position to refuse but--"

Jax: "But who thinks it's remotely charming?!"

Jax, still trying to make conversation while spinning: "Sooo. 's'yer name?"

Pomni: "Pomni-- *freezes, realizing what she just did*"

Jax: "Relaaaaax, 'm not gonna do anything with it, Poms."

Pomni: "And he gives me a nickname anyway... Okay, so what's your name?"

Jax: "HA! Nice try."

Pomni just thinks it's awkward that he knows her name and she doesn't know his/she's got nothing to call him apart from "you." So since he won't can't even give her a first letter, she calls him "Rabbit." Or "you."

Pomni initially thinks Jax is bullshitting when he offers to spin the straw into gold for her. Because nobody can do that, it's impossible--

But no, he wasn't lying about that part, he absolutely can do it and he proves it.

Pomni:" ....oh my god you weren't kidding."

Jax: "I mean it's basic magic, Poms."

From the 'Rumpelstiltskin AU,' adviser (and fae hidden in plain sight) Ragatha!

Adviser to Mildenhall (and evaluator of his character), observer and character-evaluator of Gummigoo, struggling not to punch Jax, and friend/listening ear to Pomni after her imprisonment. Ragatha has so much on her plate.

Of course since Jax already requested Pomni in exchange for spinning the third tower into gold, and since he already has a claim on her, they can't go back on that after Mildenhall is bested. Can they?

Well, they probably could but it wouldn't reflect well on the fae, and there's probably a bunch of rules and steps in doing so anyway.

Besides, Pomni did agree to his third request, and knew full well what she'd get into so...

Congrats, you two. You're engaged now. Eh, three days is about the average length of a fairy tale courtship anyway, and now they get to take their time without threats hanging over their heads.

Okay, but Pomni and Kinger's adventure after the end of the Rumpelstiltskin AU-

Ragatha, doing some last paperwork: "I'm sorry for pulling you away from your bride."

Jax, forced to help: "It's fine. She and her dad are just poking around. I think she said something about finding antiques that Mildewhall took from the village."

Ragatha: "Is that wise?"

Jax: "Look, Rags. They were fine until I stuck my nose in. How much trouble could they get into on their own?"

*Cut to Pomni and Kinger, madly running around the castle basement in terror with Kaufmo's head*

*cackling*

The one time Jax decided to mind his own business was the time they really could have used some assistance!

She and Kinger emerge all wild-eyed and pale and Jax's just "Whoa, what happened to you two?" Pomni just stares.

(Also, Jax earlier: "Wow, that's weird to say and hear out loud. My bride, my bride, my bride, my bride-- hey, say a word enough times and it doesn't sound like a word.")
