She managed to smile faintly but almost jumped out of her skin when she heard her name being called. “No-,” she whispered as her fear got the better of her and she staggered back a little. 

“Yes,” Takemichi said resolutely as he grabbed her hand and pushed open the door. There was no going back now.

There's a name for everything that exists in this world.

It's something Naoto has always known, clutching onto his sister's sleeve as he asks 'what's that?' with the natural curiosity of a four year old who's just discovering the newness of everything. And she knows, she always knows, even as he gets older and and his questions face pauses that are sometimes longer than the answer.

Naoto learns that there's nothing that can't be named. The curve of colours in the sky is called a rainbow. The metal gate that needs a ticket at the station is called a turnstile. The pink flowers that bloom along their way to school in spring are called tulips. And the smartest boy in his class with the yellow glasses is called Kisaki.

Kisaki, more than anyone else in his class, understands Naoto's curiosity, sometimes better than even the teachers do. When Naoto is squatting on the ground to peer at an insect, Kisaki comes up to tell him it's a stag beetle. It's how Naoto learned that the largest planet is Jupiter, that the tips of his laces are called aglets, that the songs of summer are sung by cicadas. And when Kisaki asks him if they can be friends, Naoto finds out the feeling in his chest is called joy.

It's how he spends most of his afternoon everyday after that, just Kisaki and him, exploring the undergrowth behind the school with magnifying glasses, sharing a science magazine held up between them until it rips in the middle, swapping books that they'd randomly plucked from their parents' shelves. On a park bench behind the swings, Naoto learns the world together with Kisaki, right up until Hina finishes practice and comes to pick him up. She'd ask him what they'd learned today, and Naoto would always tell her. Between the two of them, there's no question without an answer, not a leaf or stone left unturned in the wake of their hunger to know.

There are still things Naoto doesn't understand, of course. Things maybe even Kisaki can't name, if Naoto can figure out how to word it into a question. But the fun in discovery is that he'll eventually learn the word for it, one way or another, however long it takes.

Their heads are bent over an encyclopaedia that's bigger than their palms, poring over every page. Kisaki reads faster than Naoto, but Naoto only needs to read it once to understand. As he waits for Kisaki to finish his second reading, he spends the rest of the time studying the boy's face instead, tracing the lines of concentration etched between the furrowed brows, the way he scrunches his face each time his glasses slips down his nose, the flips his own stomach makes as his heart beats a little faster.

There's a name for everything, Naoto thinks, except this.

It's been twenty years, and Naoto still doesn't know.

Answers don't come as easy nowadays as they did when he was a child. There are no dictionaries for the sorts of things that plague his mind as he pores over maps and blueprints, no guides for the tangles in his thoughts that have trapped him in a bind. He's lost, confused, clueless — nothing like the boy on the park bench from decades past.

There are times where he finds it at the tip of his tongue, just out of reach. It's vague and unnameable, yet close and familiar enough that on some restless nights, he feels like he already knows. It flickers at the back of his mind when he sees an old bookmark printed with the name of the old cram school, a tiny light that sparks from a distant echo in his memories. And yet Naoto struggles to pin it down, to give a name to the feeling that on other nights tastes like ash as he loses sleep scrambling to find his sister's killer.

He wonders if the boy from all those years ago would know, if he would've proudly told him the answer as if Naoto should've known this when he was born. Or maybe he wouldn't, and they would've learned it together, had they flipped just one more page before they closed the book for good.

There are no more pages left between them now.

If there's one thing Naoto has learned from his years of being a detective, it's this: eventually, when you've spent so long stumbling in the dark, even the faintest beam of light is now bright enough to make you see.

Naoto's tired of not knowing. The lines of thought can only get so far before it goes nowhere, but still Naoto searches, tracing the lines over and over, no longer for discovery, but out of desperation. He tracks the mud, tugs on the rope, trails the side of the cliff until he's standing on the edge of it, in the line of fire.

There's a name for everything, especially this, he knows that now. He reads it in Kisaki's eyes, down the barrel of the gun, in the blinding flash that follows before it's spelled out in the red of his blood as it spills down the road.

Regret, he thinks it's called. It's the last thing he sees.

¤ Admitting the poor soul in a hospital, thats when you realized your phone was missing. You couldn't inform neither ur friend not you boyfriend. You were panicking until you heard the nurse say something about the doggie.

¤ You quickly forgot everything and paid for the surgery and everything and stayed a little longer to play with the cute soul now sleeping on your lap. It didn't want you to leave so that's how you spent the whole day.

naoto’s work environment can be very stressful so when he comes home to you his stress instantly fades away

especially when he comes home to the smell of your baking and/or cooking

when you’re practicing on the violin, he likes to listen to you play while he does his reports

he might help you with gardening from time to time but he doesn’t have the greenest thumb so he ends up watching you while you do most of the work

dates are usually at home since naoto is a busy man, so at home dates are usually the both of you baking together and watching a movie together

“i heard that they just opened, so i wanted to bring you here.”

naoto smiles at you, happy to see that you liked his surprise.

you had a great time with naoto in the carnival. sitting on rides, eating tons of sweets and playing carnival games, naoto even managed to win a little stuffed bunny for you, and to top it all off, you decided to ride on the ferris wheel with him.

as the both of you reached the highest point, your eyes sparkled as you looked out the window, amazed by how high up you were. naoto couldn’t take his eyes off you, you were just too beautiful right then, the setting sun highlighting your features, and that small smile plastered on your face almost made him mistake you for an angel. naoto sighed before mumbling a small “i love you” which definitely caught your attention. turning to him with a wide smile and soft eyes, you replied back. naoto was sure that he was madly in love with you.

Emma Sano is the type to think of you whenever she’s out with the other girls as they shop, go to a cafe, etc. if she sees something she thinks you might like, or it reminds her of you, she’ll take a look at it and possibly buy it

Mikey Sano is the type to be picky on what he eats unless it’s his favorite, however if you made him something then he’d be over the moon happy and eat every last crumb, no matter how good or bad it tastes

Naoto Tachibana is the type to hate physical contact and touching anything remotely dirty, however he makes an exception specifically for you, allowing you to hug him and hold his hand without needing to spray you down with disinfectant first

Ken 'Draken' Ryuguji is the type to buy you a single flower before he comes home from anywhere, it can be a rose or a tulip, he doesn’t know much about flowers but the nice old lady he buys them from helps him choose

Takashi Mitsuya is the type to unconsciously make his practice/demo clothes in your size so you can try them on, he usually makes them in whatever size he thinks would fit a mannequin he has but he’s started to make them in your size so you can model them for him

Nahoya 'Smiley' Kawata is the type to be passive aggressive and a bit rude/blunt to literally everyone that he meets, however when around you hes more sweet and sugar coats his words a bit to lessen the blow of some bad news, he doesn’t want to unintentionally hurt your feelings

Souya 'Angry' Kawata is the type to be a bit loud and rude like his brother to protect himself, hiding his real self however when we around you this facade cracks a bit and he becomes more quiet and shy, he’s sweet and likes to just sit with you

Chifuyu Matsuno is the type to hide the fact that he likes soft and cute things cause he wants to be seen as ‘manly’ and strong and not ‘weak’ however he can’t help but fawn over the cutesy things when around you as you two look at photos/videos or passing by a shop making him a bit embarrassed

Hanagaki Takemichi - Takemichi loves giving big, warm hugs! He's very physically affectionate and loves holding hands and hugging his partner, to the point that it's an instinct. At the end of the day, he simply loves snuggling up under a bunch of blankets with them. Since he's aware his sense of style isn't top-notch, he's nervous about gift-giving, but he tries to remind himself it's the thought that counts. He also loves quality time and choosing interesting date ideas for the weekend. At an amusement park/carnival date, he tries his best to win prizes for his partner to be gifts, and holds their hand to make sure they don't lose each other.

Tachibana Naoto - Naoto loves spending quality time with his partner, even if that's only sitting in the same room while doing things independently. Long walks by the riverbank or at the park are his favourite thing to do with his partner: just enjoying the great company, the weather, and the scenery! He is extremely shy about physical touch, and definitely is not the one initiating a first kiss, but he's very happy when his partner does. Hanma Shuji - He says he's not great with words, but Shuji loves showering his partner with compliments and words of affirmation.
