Every Monday, there's a post in my fitness group from a new random person who is flat out desperate to lose weight. They've starved their way through extreme diets and are upset at the lack of long-term results. However, my group isn't about weight loss. It's just a bunch of really depressed widows who discuss workouts (we all use the same fitness app) that quiet our brains and help us to feel slightly less sad. One of us will awkwardly try to offer encouragement to the new member - who usually expresses their disappointment that we don't have any magical super fast weight loss secrets. It was my turn to respond to the new member this morning and it's just like, yeah, this group is mostly about suffering to have a break from our own fucking thoughts. No one here cares about or even wants to have a physical body. Enjoy your fitness journey!
