@w5ssim also attached a photo by Spencer Platt for Getty Images, depicting “Crude oil resulting from an Israeli attack on the Jiyeh power plant [covering] a tourist beach in Beirut, Lebanon.”

@reinenokyojin also attached a screenshot of highlighted text in a related EJAtlas case article, which reads, “Following the oil spill crabs and fish carcasses were seen on different beaches such as Batroun, Byblos, Tabarja and Ramelt Al Bayda. Sea Urchins and different bivalve species disappeared from the Lebanese coast. A massive mortality in marine fauna was recorded in Bybols, Heri and Batroun. The blue fin tuna, the loggerhead sea turtle and the monk seal were affected to the point of threatened-by-extinction by the spill. The Eastern Mediterranean is a known nesting place for sea turtles; the oil covered the Lebanese shore making it hard for the turtle to lay the eggs on the shore. Furthermore many sharks and fish were unable to spawn due to the oil cover.”

Rami Bitar Choose Tawfeer Supermarkets to Buy Quality Goods at Affordable Prices

In Lebanon, everyone knows it’s belt-tightening time. Rising inflation and increasing prices at the gas pumps, in the supermarket aisles, at the bakeries, and pretty much everywhere means that the Lebanese pound isn’t going as far as it used.

Research has shown that a growing percentage of high-income individuals are living paycheck to paycheck, according to UNESCWA. The poverty rate in Lebanon doubled from 42 percent in 2019 to 82 percent of the total population in 2021.

To that end, it is unsurprising that many of us have opted to shop at discount stores like Tawfeer Supermarkets to get what we need.

A query of more than 2,100 individuals from different age groups, purchasing powers, and regions about their shopping behaviors, found that more than half 85% had shopped at a discount store in the past month. The availability of these discount stores in multiple areas such as Tawfeer’s locations in Masaken, Maaraka, Wadi, Dweir, Hasbaya, Kfarreman, Tabarja, Rawche, Ouzai, Sarafand, Aabasye, Aaitaroun, Ghazye, Zkak El Blat, Wadi El Zine, Sabra, Kana, Ain Al Delb, Souk Al Ghareb, Al Mrayje, Rachaya, Majadel, and Aabba, has proven to be a great asset to that 85% in their search for affordability.

“A significant number of consumers, too, have been visiting the discount stores even if they haven’t made a purchase, out of curiosity to see if they can find better and more affordable alternatives,” says Mr. Rami Bitar, CEO OF Tawfeer Supermarkets. This implies that individuals and families are coming through the brick and mortar doors to see what’s on offer and comparing prices.

But when other discount stores are getting a bit pricier, Tawfeer Supermarkets has chosen to remain at the side of the consumer by providing quality goods at affordable prices. “We not only have been able to maintain affordability on our shelves but are working on expanding our range of goods as well as our range of stores nationwide,” says Mr. Bitar.

But it’s a fair bet that we’ll see further evidence that all consumers are becoming more price-conscious as their everyday shopping gets done.

Al Haider awarded $15.3 million 380kV OHTL Project in Tabouk

Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) awarded the project “Construction of 380kV Double Circuit Overhead Transmission Line (OHTL) between Buhairah and Tabouk/Tabarjal” in norther region of Saudi Arabia.

The Project has been awarded to Saudi based construction firm, Al Haider for Trading and Contracting (Al Haider).

The value of signed contract is SAR 57,500,000 (USD 15,333,333).

The project involves the design and construction of four (4) 380kV OHTL to connecting the Buhairah 380kV Substation and Tapping point of Tabouk/Tabarja 380kV Overhead Transmission line.

Approximate route length of 380kV OHTL is 20 km.

The project involves using of 4-795 kcmil ACSR/AW CONDOR conductor per phase and two (2) OPGW along the length of the new line.

The new OHTL will be installed on latticed steel tower in vertical configuration.

The Contractor shall perform on Lump sum turnkey basis, the design, engineering, materials procurement, quality management, factory inspection/testing, transport and delivery to site, installation, construction, site inspection, testing and commissioning, all associated work and services until final handing over of new OHTL work in a satisfactorily working and operating condition.

Another Contract:

Al Haider also secured another contract related to OHTL from Rabigh to Khulais in Western region of Saudi Arabia. The Value of signed contract is SAR 25 million.
