novellas, i think, are even more hit or miss than full length novels cause i always end up leaving them thinking either "holy shit i can't believe this author accomplished a story like that in so few pages" or "eh. the author needed way more space to achieve any of the things they attempted in this" and there is so very, very rarely any in between

#text post #t. kingfisher and martha wells and seanan mcguire are always in that first category #also i loved the fractured fables duology by alix e harrow #and the singing hills cycle by nghi vo. omg *chefs kiss*#also monk and robot by becky chambers #those are all really great novellas if anyone's curious #i also gave 'the butcher of the forest' by premee mohamed and 'goddess of filth' by v. castro 4 stars each #but i only remember snippets from both so im less confident in recommending those
