Fjallabræður - Tímabundinn (Time-bound) - transcript/translation
Requested by anon! This is a song about the passage of time, and I had never heard it before but I actually like it a lot. Thanks for introducing me to it!
Icelandic transcript
Hann brestur á og þýtur hjá
á leið frá því sem áður var
til þess sem er og með sér ber
þá stund sem líður hér og þar
Hún kemur til rétt um það bil
sem hér og nú í tíma er
Svo staldrar við þó löng sé bið
eitt augnablik sem fer
Svo tifar tíð um ár og síð
og telur hvert eitt spor með þér
Við fótmál hvert er þakkarvert(?)
hvað aflar dag sem ég á hér (?)
Svo skilur við sú stundarbið
og eitthvað út í buskann fer
Ég eftir sit við fundarslit
og tímabundinn er
Áfram, áfram
Áfram bíður

Transcription notes
Just a couple of lines I'm not quite sure of here, but I think I've got something that more or less makes sense.
English translation
It comes on and rushes past
away from all that was before
towards what is and carries with it
the moment that passes here and there
It comes around just around the time
that's here and now in time
Then, though the wait is long,
one moment stops by and goes
Thus time ticks for years and years
counting every step with you
With every step I'm grateful(?)
for what gives me the day I have (?)
Then that brief wait departs as well
and disappears into the distance
I'm left sitting at the end of the meeting,
bound by time
On and on, on and on
On and on
time waits for me
On and on, on and on
time goes by
Endlessly it goes
It comes on and rushes past
away from all that was before
towards what is and carries with it
the moment that passes here and there
It comes around just around the time
that's here and now in time
Then, though the wait is long,
one moment stops by and goes
On and on, on and on
On and on
time waits for me
On and on, on and on
Time goes by
endlessly it goes
Come
Gone

Once
again has
arrived
staring at me
Even though
it never
stops
for long
here
with me
all the way
until old age

Translation notes
The title "Tímabundinn" means "Temporary", but the compound literally means "time-bound", and my judgement of the lyrics where the title drop happens is that they're playing on that literal meaning and the narrator is referring to being bound by time more than to being temporary. Thus, I translated it as "time-bound", even though "Temporary" is the more straightforward translation.
