"There's a change machine," Gabriel offers, gesturing towards the front of the arcade, "If you're interested in playing a little longer. Can't let running out of quarters stop you. It even takes credit, so unless you're one of those people that somehow survives without a credit card in these days...Not sure you have a legitimate excuse..." Though of course, just not being interested in playing anymore was a legitimate excuse. Plus, he gets the feeling a lack of quarters isn't the only reason he's not taking up Gabe's offer to find another game to play...though if it's not the reason, he's really not sure what is.
Tumblr media
"I'm uh - Gabe. Yeah, I guess I'm new, moved here a couple weeks ago I think? You must be a local to have noticed, I feel like... How long have you been here?" Gabriel's eyes slip down towards the hand that is held out for a shake and after a brief breath of hesitation reaches out to return the shake. Feels strangely formal, but he's not one to make judgements.
"Oh yeah, this place is rare," Vicente commented with a general look around at the antiquated arcade. "Not many towns have working arcade room, especially one with so many of the original games." As he shifted stance, a certain kind of smell came off the other. Definitely not strong, but... It wasn't anything good. And honestly, it was so faint, Vicente could almost convince himself it wasn't there at all-- or that it could have come from the shop's front door opening and closing as someone else left.
Where had he smelled that before, though?
Tumblr media
"Honestly, I'm already out of quarters," Vicente sighed then, idly patting down his pockets with little interest. "But hey, what's your name? Don't think we've actually met before, are you new in town?" He held a hand out for introductions. "Name's Vicente."

"I guess that might be true..." Gabriel only really got the job at the arcade because it seemed simple, a quick way to make a few bucks, and he enjoyed playing the games. He didn't really know that much about the story behind the games themselves or where they might be in the world at this very moment other than the odd fast fact he could pull out of his ass.
Tumblr media
"No, you're right. They're definitely different experiences." The home game consoles definitely had their place, not to mention now with the internet that allowed for multiplayer game play without even having to leave the convenience of your own home? "We're probably lucky to have an arcade here, honestly. Sort of like a hidden treasure these days." He pauses, glancing around a little, "I can uh - show you to a couple other games that are kind of similar, if you like? Give 'em a shot?"
"Personally, I'd think that'd be just the thing you might find in a nowhere place like this," Vicente countered. "If I was going to have any decent antique like that, I'd definitely keep it in some off-road bumhole of a place so that its appeal never devalued. And, it'd generate some tourists and revenue for the town itself." The man shrugged. "But you're probably right, yeah. If they're that rare, these days with people being more money-grabbing, you're likely to catch them in one of the bigger cities where the chances to auction off to the highest bidder is easier."
He shook his head as if that was such a shame, too.
Tumblr media
"Oh, yeah, I get what you mean," he nodded, crossing his arms. "Yeah, I never understood the appeal of game consoles but maybe that's my age coming out. It's not the same as going out on a Friday night with a couple of friends and a pocket of quarters, scarfing down pizza and soda while you battle for highest score. You'd think with all the recent media coming out glorifying the 80's, they'd try to bring places back like that, get kids off their phones more.."

"Definitely," Gabe agreed a bit lamely, watching the man study the game with seemingly fond memories. He certainly didn't have anything against Pac-Man, it was a pretty decent arcade treasure, but it didn't hold attention for very long. The only real attraction was trying to best high scores, and that got old pretty quick, too. Avoiding ghosts and gobbling up yellow spots and the occasional berry wasn't that interesting of a concept in this day in age.
But well, now he wanted to have another go at his high score...
"Yeah, I think there have been rumors in the past that they only made like ten legitimate Ms. Pac-Man cabinets. I guess I'd be surprised if a little town like this ended up with one, but you never know. If the owner was invested enough, maybe one day."
Tumblr media
"Oh, uh...I dunno, really," Gabe remarks, "I haven't played them but - I think mostly they're just the same general concept but remade for like, consoles and mobile apps and that kind of thing? PC, probably? I don't think they've made an arcade style one in a ... a while."
"Oh it's definitely a classic- it'd be downright criminal if you guys didn't have it," he agreed, giving the machine a look of fondness. "Now if they really want to be legit, they'll have to bring in a game of Ms. Pac-Man. I hear those are super rare these days.." he shared, knowing full well he hadn't spent any of his youth actually playing these games. Not with any seriousness, anyway. There'd been too much to learn, too much to do. Too much to train for. Vicente hadn't had any kind of typical or normal childhood.
Tumblr media
"Newer versions?" His brows furrowed as he turned to face the other man a bit. "What are the newer versions like? I haven't kept up with the games in a long time." Not that he gave a flying fuck, honestly. But whatever would keep the worker there, chatting to him, as he gleamed what information he could of him... Vicente would chit-chat over the damned weather, if need be.

The arcade had been some sort of strange comfort when Gabriel came across it - and if he was going to survive in this place, he supposed he needed a little money in his pocket. So he decided to pick up a job when he saw the help wanted sign, and it was easy enough. Maintaining the machines, exchanging tickets for prizes - there were definitely worse things to be doing with his time. Not to mention, it was fun seeing the excitement light up in the eyes of kids punching buttons and pushing joy sticks.
Tumblr media
Or, in this case, a slightly older guy - but who was Gabe to judge? Everyone deserved the joys of a video game playing out on screen, in his humble opinion. "Pac-Man? I don't know, I think it's pretty much a classic. Would seem wrong not to have some sort of copy of it available." His shoulders lift in a bit of a shrug, glancing over the arcade system thoughtfully. "Some people like those newer versions they've released over the years, but they never match up to the originals in my opinion. You know?"
@ravensrevcnge (Gabriel)
Any new faces in town, Vicente made it a point to know about it. Hell, he had literal cameras set up in areas all over this place that only a select few had any idea about, and hacked into the trail cams in the Stygian. So, when this new guy just suddenly waltzed into town out of the blue, Vicente had to do his research and find out just exactly who he was. Maybe even what he was. As much as he wished he could just automatically know if someone was truly human or something more, he sadly hadn't developed such powers. No hunter had. But they could figure it out soon enough.
Tumblr media
"Oh man, I remember this game," Vicente said loud enough just as the arcade worker he was targeting had started to come by. He even looked over his shoulder to catch the man's interest and smiled, gesturing towards the Pac Man game. "You're probably too young to know, but back in my day, this was top tier entertainment. Can't believe you guys got it."
