‘I’ll be right back. I promise.’
Oh how those few words had fallen apart on her so quickly.
She had left her family with a warm smile, a tight hug for Sarah and a long kiss for Steve before she had departed in a car provided by the CIA, her infamous catsuit packed into the bag next to her.
It was a highly secretive mission, one that she had been unable to tell even Steve about let alone Sarah despite how much she wanted to put the young girl’s anxieties to rest. However, despite how secretive it had been, it was only meant to be in and out, with Sharon home in two weeks.
And then the world ended.
Or at least that was what it felt like as the people around her started to panic, limbs and faces turning to dust around her, screams and chaos erupting onto the streets surrounding the safe house she had been in. And then she felt it herself, like everything inside of her was just, letting go. And Agent 13 was no more.
-
Sharon awoke in the same place she’d fallen, on the dusty floor of a safe house in isolated Russia, surrounded by two men who seemed equally as confused as she was. Their communications back to. HQ didn’t work and mayday calls home weren’t being received. No one could tell them what happened.
It took a month for the team to get back to America, after hiking around Russia, gathering scraps of information from confused and scared locals. They were slowly welcomed back into a world that had moved on without them.
The most startling thing to Sharon was the large bronze memorial statue of her husband at the airport, showing off his brave face and powerful stance, protected by his own shield and Thor’s hammer, Then they filled her in.
They won. All those who were dusted were brought back into the world. And her husband had died a hero.
“Where is she!” Sharon slammed her hand on the desk of a random woman who was apparently in charge of the will and testimony of Steve Rogers, the woman shaking in her seat.
“We thought you were dead. No one could contact you.”
I was abandoned by them. My family was abandoned by them.
Sam’s address was eventually given to her with the promise that her daughter was safe behind the four walls that held the roof up.
She didn’t bother waiting for a car and instead ran for the nearest taxi. Cash was tossed in the driver’s direction once he came to a slow enough stop by the curb and Sharon left the door open in a desperate attempt to get to her daughter faster.
The door was kicked open, proving how feeble Sam’s locks were, revealing a tired, stressed, and scared Sharon with wild eyes and trembling hands.
“Sarah?”

continued from here
Oh how Sharon wanted to go back to Sarah’s school and kick the absolute shit out of the child and if it weren’t for the fact that Steve was currently on the run and unable to assist in raising their daughter, he would’ve assisted her.
But he wasn’t.
And here she was left alone to try and raise Sarah properly on her own when she was a teenager and probably just wanted a hug from her Dad.
As Sarah bypassed her, heading for her room, Sharon thought of a thousand things to say, all being intercepted before they reached her mouth. Instead she stood there staring at the space where her daughter had been, listening her footsteps throughout the house.
“There’s a cup of tea waiting for you when you wake up.” She eventually called back, still staring ahead, afraid to look at the forming bruise on her precious child’s face.
Tea healed everything, or at least that was what Aunt Peggy had instilled in her as a child. There wasn’t anything in the world that couldn’t be healed by a cup of tea.
Whether heartbreak from a teenage boy.
Or the rejection from her own mother at going to the army.
