some stuff on here that takes me back to stank face roots - pusha t young thug 03 greedo especially.

listening to 'whatever dude' and 'dizzy' back to back is a trip - so crazy as well as heartbreaking to hear how confident and charismatic ritchie and groggs were on their debut, and so much fun to hear the age, wisdom, confidence, and joy from riTchie now .

it's been 6 years and 'BERLIN' still makes me feel like getting hit in the head by a battering ram i love it so much. bearface chorus still an all timer for me. 'slug' is so great love how pretty it is while still sounding like its slipping and sliding everywhere. can't wait for whatever this project is.

played 'the climb' off of the cd and felt like an epic physical media wizard. that song is also still an absolute heater and so many quotable bars i can't even count.

He was over it to say the least. Matt was livid watching your friend constantly interrupt you, talking over you and showing zero remorse for the sad pout that you had tried to hide. You wanted to go to this dumb party so bad and it was only because you missed these people—the same people that were cutting you off every time you tried to speak. 

“Oh my god! I actually—” Yet again, your statement is cut off by one of the girls. Matt watches you shrink into yourself, a gentle furrow of your eyebrows making his jaw click with frustration. 

You were usually quiet. Matt loved that about you, but he loved even more when you’d chip in with something to say—an odd occurrence that let him know you felt comfortable enough to speak. He could only take so much. 

Another couple minutes pass with the same shit. Time after time, you keep getting interrupted. Matt can feel your body slugging under his arm with disappointment. You’re more than just quiet now—you’re not even really present. Glossed eyes stare blankly at the wall, a sad gleam that lets him know he needs to push back his anger in order to comfort you. 

“Let’s go, okay?” he offers. A sluggish nod of your head leaves him waving goodbye to your friends, barely offering any acknowledgment before tugging your hand in his, guiding you to the car. 

His hand rests on your thigh, lightly massaging over the skin. He can feel the sad. It makes him wanna pull over and hug you right there and then, but he knows that he wants to get you out of the uncomfortable dress and tuck you in bed with him. All he wanted was to have you safe and comfortable in his arms, show you how much you deserved to feel loved. 

Guiding you into the house by your hand, he notices how quiet you get. You’re now sitting on the bed, unmoving. There’s a silent offer as he tugs on the strap of your dress. He’s gentle. Undressing you with completely honest innocence, he throws one of his T-shirts over your head—your favorite one of his. 

“Close your eyes for me, sweetheart,” he directs, grabbing one of your makeup wipes and gently swiping it onto your skin. Matt analyzes your face to make sure he didn’t miss any spots. He can’t help but let his thumb swivel over your jaw as he presses a soft kiss to the pout on your lips. 

“I’m sorry they were so mean. You don’t deserve that, you hear me?” he stares intently, making for your answer with a joking glare. With a slight curl of your lips, Matt breaks into a smile. He throws the wipe into the bin, stripping and changing into a pair of sweats. 

Climbing into bed, he spoons you from behind, letting out a soft huff of air while nuzzling into your neck. “My perfect doll. I…’m sorry they don’t appreciate you. Can’t imagine how anyone couldn’t adore you like I do,” he breaths, littering small pecks onto your neck while rubbing his thumb on your hip. 

You let yourself relax in his arms, appreciating the warmth and peace radiating in the air. Matt’s arms tug you in closer. Letting out a laugh, you try to contain your smile. “What’re you doing?” you ask. 

Matt hums with content, practically crushing his nose into your neck as he breathes in your scent. 

“--’m appreciating my doll, baby. Relax.”

matt breathed in deeply, looking at himself in the mirror before muttering, "final game of the season, you got this."

"stay calm." he added on, knowing that every time he was on the court he would get a little crazy.

but it's not like it was his fault, the referees were just blind as hell and didn't even know the difference between pivoting with the ball and traveling.

or maybe it was him. whatever, even if it was he wouldn't dare to admit it.

"hurry up, boys! gotta get you kids out there for some warm-ups," coach yelled, his voice echoing off the walls of the locker room.

matt sighed, closing his eyes and taking one more deep breath before throwing his jersey on.

04, under the number was the name of his school, WESTFIELD HS.

"matt!" chris's voice broke the brunette boy out of his trance, looking over his shoulder before turning around fully to look at his brother.

matt couldn't help crack a smile at the excited expression on his brothers face, his eyes bright and his smile big.

"what's up?" matt said, running a hand through his hair.

chris straightened our his jersey, number 03, before looking back up at matt and speaking, "oh. nothing, just wanted to check up on you, you nervous?"

matt nodded, "yeah, but i'm still hopeful. the other team isn't all that, either, but we still need to be strong. and aggressive."

chris nodded, his facial expression serious now, "yeah. hey, let's go to the team, give them a pep talk?"

"bring it in wildcats!" matt called, and the team was quick to get together, chris going over to matt's side immediately.

the players looked around at one another, giving knowing looks and muttering quiet encouragements.

"hey, today isn't any different than our other games. we always come to win, and what do we always do?" matt asked, and the team responded proudly:

"win!"

matt smiled, "yes, exactly! we need to play with energy and sportsmanship, no matter how pissed the other team gets you. and above all, we need to play aggressive and fast." chris nodded at his brother, his eyes scanning his other teammates.

"so, we're gonna play all the basics. 2-3, box, etcetera. now, everybody knows that the other team isn't that good, they've lost a majority of their games this season and the main reason for it was them not being on defense."

matt inhaled deeply, "some of us have a bit of a problem with that, too, so, we need to always, and i mean always be on our man. everybody just goes to the ball and leaves the other team open."

a boy on the team nodded, knowing that the comment was mainly directed to him.

"even if we don't win, we're still the wildcats, and we'll always have our confidence. no matter what." matt encouraged, giving soft smiles to his team.

"preach, matt." chris laughed, earning some smiles from his teammates.

matt rolled his eyes before putting his fist out, leading the whole team to do the same thing, "wildcats on three!"

"1, 2, 3, wildcats!" the team roared, voices echoing off the gym walls as they parted ways, some players going on the bench and some going onto the court.

coach smiled at matt, giving him a thumbs up before matt went to jog on the court.

matt's attention was quickly turned to the crowd on the other side of the court, his eyes immediately landing on you.

you waved, giving him a thumbs up with your free hand as he waved back.

chris was in the middle, his eyes never leaving the ball as the referee raised it in the air.

matt went into his defense position, getting low and in front of a player from the opposing team.

the tension was high as the gym fell silent, only the sound of quiet buzzing from the scoreboard heard.

then, the referee put the whistle to his lips, and blew. he dropped the ball, and chris swiftly smacked it behind the opponent and into his teammates hands.

"let's go wildcats!" was heard from the sidelines, and as matts teammate dribbled the ball up court and shot a lay-up, the crowd erupted in roars and screams.

well, this was gonna be an easy win.

this wasn't gonna be a very easy win.

matt groaned in frustration as the ref called a foul on him. he hadn't even touched his opponent!

the wildcats and sharks were neck and neck, 30-30, the scoreboard read.

the opponents coach had waited until they were losing by a lot to put in his best players, and now the wildcats were on the brink of losing a game.

"shit," matt muttered as number 08 on the other team ran up the court.

he pushed himself to run with all his strength, and as nunber 08 went to score, matt jumped up to try and block the shot.

number 23 on the opposite team pushed matt with all his strength, sending him flying onto the floor face first.

he landed on face, his knees sliding on the freshly waxed gym floors.

a loud roar of anger was heard from the wildcats, and the whistle blew many times before the gym was shut up.

"fuck, fuck, fuck!" matt groaned in pain, holding his nose as he breathed heavily.

nick, taking the pictures of the basketball team for school, quickly raced down the bleachers and to his brothers aid.

chris did, too, worry evident on his face as he patted matts back, "you're okay, matt, c'mon, get up."

nick helped matt to sit on his butt, carefully grabbing his chin and noticing his bloody nose.

"it's fine, you'll be okay. we're gonna get up on three, alright?"

matt nodded, groaning as he stood up on the count of three.

his knees ached and so did his nose. shit, there was no way he was going to be able to have more playing time.

sure, his teammates were good, but matt was the best player on the team.

nick and chris walked matt to the sidelines, letting him sit down on the bench before nick handed him his water bottle.

"you okay?" chris asked, tilting his head a bit.

matt nodded, his head fuzzy with frustration.

the game went on, and number 23 got benched & fouled. 1 more foul for the sharks and the wildcats would get two free throws.

1 more basket and the wildcats would win.

the game was getting heated, and people the opposing team were screaming at their teammates.

it had only taken a few missed shots from the wildcats to get matt stirred up, and he shot up from his seat, walking to coach with a passion.

"put me in." he demanded, and in any other circumstance, he would've crumbled in fear at the way his coach looked at him.

he cocked an eyebrow, "you're hurt, matt, we can't risk it."

matt grumbled, looking down at his feet as he balled his hands into fists. why not put him in? he was the best player, and the others were clearly not locked in. he needed to be in there.

"put matt in!" you and nick chanted from the bleachers, making the coach and matt himself turn their attention.

the chant caught on quickly with the rest of the wildcats, even the players that were on the court, currently on timeout.

matt smiled sweetly at you, and you just cheered for him, your heart melting at the way he looked at you.

the brunette boy turned back to his coach, not daring to break eye contact again. he took deep breaths, trying to control himself as he asked once more:

"can you put me in, coach? please." he asked, and this time, coach didn't hesitate to nod.

the people controlling the scoreboard wasted no time in subbing out a worse player for matt, and the brunette boy ran onto the court, determined to win.

the game started back up again quickly, and matt was quick to steal the ball when 06 on sharks were passing the ball in.

he ran down the court, his legs burning and his throat dry. the crowd cheered loudly, and so did his teammates.

even over all the other voices, the only one he listened to was yours, you were the only one he cared about.

he jumped up, the ball rolling off his hand and going up into the air.

matt drowned everybody out, his breathing heavy and his legs tired. the ball spun around the rim not once, not twice, but three times before it fell into the basket and dropped to the floor.

matts eyes widened, and he could finally hear everything. cheers erupted from the wildcats and the coach for the sharks threw his clipboard down.

"holy shit. oh my god!" matt yelled, the realization that he had won the game finally hitting him.

you didn't hesitate to scramble off the bleachers and onto the court, wanting to be the first one to speak to him.

you jumped into his arms, almost sending him falling to the floor, but he steadied himself and wrapped his arms around you tightly.

"you won, baby! im so proud of you." you muttered into his shoulder, and he smiled.

"thank you." he whispered.

matt and you sat at a booth in a local diner, drinking celebratory milkshakes.

you couldn't help but smile as he drank it, putting the cup to his lips before putting it back down, leaving whipped cream on his upper lip.

"what?" he questioned before licking his lips, and you couldn't help but laugh softly.

"nothing. just wanted to look at you. you literally just won the state championships, can i not be proud of you?"

matt smiled softly, hiding his face as he blushed.

"couldn't have done it without my favorite person." he praised, reaching his hand out to yours that was on the table.

   ❝No,❞ Rae muttered against his shoulder. She shifted slightly and looped her arm through Matt's bent elbow, loosely holding onto him. Her eyes tracked the movement of his hand as he sketched. ❝I'm just ... comfortable ...❞ a hesitant pause followed before she let out a soft sigh and added, much more quietly, ❝... and I miss you.❞

   She didn't exactly sound tired, but something more akin to relaxed, at ease. What they were doing was undoubtedly the right thing to do and she was thankful that she'd finally managed to break through the barrier of manipulation and belief his grandfather had been building into his mind since he was a child. Regardless, it was difficult — not only because moments like these now felt like they were stolen fleetingly, but because Rae knew there was nothing she could do to protect him.

   Matt could take care of himself, she knew that, but ... she couldn't stop herself from worrying about him. Her Da had warned them both how difficult this would be — it meant the world to her that her parents were helping them and Rae didn't think they'd be able to handle this without them, but ... on the bright side, she'd begun to see a side of Matt that she'd only caught glimpses of before. The parts of him that he kept hidden in order to please and to survive his situation.

   She loved watching him draw, too. Rae had rarely gotten to actually just ... sit and watch him and, truly, he was indeed mesmerizing to watch. A small smile curled at her lips and she nuzzled into his shoulder just slightly. While her left arm was looped through his, her right hand rested idly against the inside of his elbow. ❝Have you ever used paints or anything? ❞ Maybe she was asking because she'd had a passing thought once or twice about how good his style of the setting sun over Ketterdam would look if he'd painted it. It'd look incredible with his other mediums too of course, but ...

 There was no doubt that he was doing the right thing. Now. Finally. And no matter how difficult, Matt was determined to pull through with it. There were several sacrifices he had to make along the way, but he was willing to make them all in an attempt to right the wrongs he had done. In an attempt to refuse to become the monster he had been raised to be.

 The hardest sacrifice, however, was not being able to see Rae as often as he was used to. Sneaking out had always been difficult, but Matt was under more scrutiny now than ever before. So their meetings were few and far between. Having temporarily dropped out of University, they were lucky if they got to see each other once a week, in the middle of the night, preferably on the rooftops of Ketterdam where no one else would be able to see them.

 Tonight was one of those nights. And, as though the Saints were on their side, the sky was clear and the weather mild. The chimney they were leaning against gave off a comfortable heat as they talked about anything and everything. Well… Everything, but all the things currently weighing heavily on his mind. There was a time and place for that, but tonight wasn’t it. He just wanted to enjoy the time he got to spend with her, and he had no intention of ruining it by bringing down the mood.

 In his lap, Matt had a small bone light, as well as the well-worn sketchbook he always carried on him in case he got a chance to use it. He’d been mindlessly sketching in it, but was focused enough that it took him a few seconds to realize that Rae had stopped talking. Just as he was about to turn his head to look at her, he felt a weight on his shoulder and froze in place. He didn’t have to see it to know it was her head. His heart skipped a couple of beats at that realization and, for several moments, he wasn’t sure what to do. In the end, he simply exhaled and continued drawing. For Saint’s sake, chill out. She’s your best friend. She's comfortable around you. Don't ruin it.

 “Are you tired? We can wrap it up for tonight, if you want.”

Finally, a man! But seriously, this was so hard to make since I CANNOT make male sims without them looking like Lord Farquad. Anyway, compiling all of the links and stuff make me tired, to the point where sometimes I just want to put the files on the post. Then, I remember how much harder it is to make the CC I use, and I quickly get motivated again!

My stomach hasn´t been so well in the last few weeks, so I´m loaded with work and drained of energy. All I could manage to eat at school was a chicken sandwich, which I love. I had a wonderful time yesterday, since I was feeling better and the sky was a clear deep blue. I will change my habits. I will get better. I am on my way. This is not over. I´ve also been reading How To Stop Time by Matt Haig, I am enjoying it.

Tom Ford (Fat Body)

There truly never can be enough Tom Ford figs in the world! So I was happy to scoop up these two little well-dressed men in this cute "fat body" style.

The inspiration for these figs of course is this epic picture:

I've written about the Tom Ford event before, so I won't repeat myself, but you can check out the prior Tom Ford figs I've posted about if you're interested here and here.

Which of course you've seen before. I realized my mistake when I bought these that I had only bought 1. I like both sides and I have figs for both sides! I had to snag a second one when the remainders came available so I can have both sides displayed.

These two are so nicely detailed! Please take a look at the dog and cats in their eyes, so cute!

Zhehan's whole outfit has just a wealth of wonderful little touches. For something as casual as this jacket, there's actually has a lot going on. There's the mesh layer to it, the hanging tag on his zipper, and of course the light tan edging setting off the light blue. We also have all this fantastic detail on his belt and shoes.

Haha I love them pointing at each other like this, it's so cute! We've got Junjun's normal slim silhouette and Zhehan's more curvy one.

The figs stand up just fine on their own, despite their even larger than normal heads. Quality fig engineering, and I also think the body style provides a sturdier base.

I know Gong Jun's flowered shirt has given factories difficulties before. It looks sharp and beautifully detailed here. This is also a great angle to see the mesh on the back of Zhehan's hoodie.

Oops! I missed an angle! I'll leave this as a placeholder and come back to it.

I like the slouchiness of the jacket riding up with Zhehan's hand in his pocket.

Their hair also looks great. We get Junjun's styled look and Zhehan's shorter sides / longer top artfully tousled hair.

And we're back around! This isn't their position in the pics, but I think it always looks a bit different to have them standing in different places. You can see that Junjun is just a smidge taller than Zhehan.

Zhehan's belt even has a bit of a 3-D effect. This is a really nice set of figs.

We can really see Zhehan's tousled hair here! I love it.

Here's a comparison of the fat body style next to the more typical fig style. I love all the styles! I have to say I wish all figs had the larger feet, it would really make it much easier for standability and / or fig stickers.

Alright, everything beyond this is a discussion not around the figs but around the actual lipstick our two faves sold. I'm retired as a beauty blogger (although I kind of miss it sometimes) but this is definitely beauty-blog adjacent. So click right out if that's of no interest!

For those of you sticking around, I'm going to start with these pictures:

Can I just say the photographer for this last picture is a genius?

Anyway, I take this side journey not just to post beautiful men advertising lipstick, but as I said, to actually talk about this lipstick for a few minutes. Lip Lacquer Luxe Matte in Lark 03 sold out everywhere. Like, globally. I tried to buy it too late, so despite everywhere I searched, including all my international beauty sites, I had zero luck. I mean, good for our boys, right? I'm so proud of them.

I did eventually manage to buy it from a reseller here in the US (and fairly recently, at that), but at this point of course the liquid lipstick is several years old, and I have to responsibly advise against using old makeup, no matter how pricey or beloved.

I've been checking in periodically at Tom Ford and various retailers to see if they ever plan to restock this color (why do people hate money???), and GUESS what? A couple weeks ago I searched on Sephora and I got a hit. I couldn't believe it! The item that came up was not, in fact, Lip Lacquer Luxe Matte in Lark 03 - it was the Liquid Lip Luxe Matte in Lark 121. I would actually research what the difference is between the two formulas, and do an analysis of the ingredients, but as I said, I'm retired from that (plus I have tomorrow's blog post to write!).

The color looked the same to me though, so into the cart it went. It arrived on my doorstep and sure enough, it's the exact same color.

The one on the left is the new one, and the right is the original one.

The original formulation is definitely less matte. It goes on creamy and smooth, it's really nice. It takes a little longer to dry down because of it, but that also allows you to blot it and get a nice diffuse color. The new version is slightly more liquid, sets very fast, and blotting only seems to get rid of the excess / reveal where I didn't apply evenly. I definitely like the original formulation better, but that's just my personal preference.

So this is a moon I made on my arm, with the original in the center and the new formula outside of it. You can see how even though I drew the interior moon first, it's still quite creamy, while the exterior outlines of the moon have dried down almost completely.

The color in real life is absolutely gorgeous. I'd say it's very true to the color on Gong Jun's lips in his photos. This is actually my perfect lipstick color, and I don't say this as a JZP. I have tried so many lipsticks, I can't even tell you. There's a reason I've been hunting this down so religiously.

I will say there's another red advertised in this video and it is definitely not my color at all. I wish it was! It's gorgeous:

There's two things I don't love. First, the price. $59 for a liquid lipstick is ridiculous. I searched Sephora's site by "liquid lipstick" and sorted by Price, Highest First, and guess what was at the very top of the list? Yeah, you got it in one. This literal product. Absurd. The YSL lines of lipsticks are some of my favorite and you get a gorgeous case for about half the price. For a quarter of the price (or less!) you can get an awesome formulation at Target or Ulta, or for that matter, Sephora.

Second, I also don't love lipstick as a product in general. I like to say it's because it's too fussy for me, but the truth is, I had terribly crooked teeth as a child and wore braces (twice), and I think I've never subconsciously gotten over wanting people to not look at my mouth.

Unfortunately, my lips lost the genetic dice roll and have very little natural pigment in them, and it brightens my face up to have a little bit of rosiness in my lips. So, it's nice to have a go-to color for work and going out. And I will say, I have found that it's true that there's something about putting on a fresh coat of lipstick, taking a deep breath, and going out to face the world when you have to but really don't want to.

03: Close My Eyes

The clinks of glass and ceramic plates make my heart patter faster as I set the table. He’s coming here—he’ll be here any minute. 

I had to go to Manon for ideas on how to ‘try harder.’ It wasn’t simple to come up with something for whatever reason—every idea had some sort of flaw. Even this one. 

Hayden wasn’t easy to please. The man got himself everything, there was nothing that I could get him. I had to do something that just took effort of a skill I wasn’t entirely confident in—cooking. 

It was a simple dish. Pasta and garlic bread, something I knew he would like. The preparation was easy, but for some reason—it felt really emotional. I was swallowing thick clumps of anxiety while blinking up and the ceiling as I cooked the pasta. 

What was wrong?

I wanted to be excited for his reaction. I really fucking wanted to feel any sort of confidence, but all I felt was a puddle of nerves that made me feel a little sick. It started after I got his text, the one of him replying to mine, asking him to come over. He was already upset. Hayden didn’t like being in my apartment, that’s why we usually stuck to his place. 

But, this was a surprise. He was gonna come over and any lingering frustration from breaking our normal routine would be diminished when he saw me trying…right? 

Overthinking. I couldn’t stop overthinking. My outfit didn’t even seem good. I had changed a countless amount of times, but nothing seemed quite right. He wasn’t coming over dressed up. There was a high chance he was coming over in jeans and a T-shirt. The amount of clothes I had shoved into my laundry basket was ungodly. 

My heart stops as I hear the knocks on the door. 

Part of me wants to convince myself the nervous sweat starting to heat up the back of my neck is excitement, but I know it’s not. It’s fear. 

Swinging open the door for him, I watch as his furrowed brows cock upward in surprise analyzing my appearance. 

He’s happy. Something about his lightened expression makes me feel relief and regret at the same time.

Why did I wear this?

It was a skirt. Something I had to literally dig for in my wardrobe. I hated it. It was too short, too…too much. The soft red fabric felt like an article of clothing I would have to wear for modeling gigs—the type of shoots that made the mirror look like a threat. 

“Wow, babe…” 

Babe. Ugh. 

But, this is what I wanted. He’s content—this is progress. This can be something that makes me feel good if I just let it. I can’t have unconditional love if I don’t work for it. It’s a two-way street. He’s trying, I’m trying. 

This is something.

“Do you, um…wanna come in? I,” I open the door wider, letting him in and gesturing towards the small dining table that is somewhat hidden behind the countertops of my quaint kitchen set-up. Apartment living. “--I made us dinner. Pasta and garlic bread.” 

His shoes tap on my wooden floors like nails scratching on a chalkboard. Germs. But, his happy smile deters me from the annoyance as he waves his hands with disbelief, letting them land softly on my shoulders. 

“This is really sweet, thank you, I—c’mere,” he husks, pulling me into his chest as his hands swarm around my hips. 

Shouldn’t this feel…good? 

I let my hand pat on his back. The feeling of his hands squeezing into my sides makes my face crinkle. 

This will be worth it.

Please let this be worth it.

Hayden seemed more than pleased. The effort really seemed to pay off—to him. 

Even his chewing pissed me off. 

He had his phone on the table, placing it face down after checking it occasionally. His ‘buddies’ were all goofing around in the groupchat. I tried to listen to him explain the inside joke. It just wasn’t funny when he kept squeaking his shoes on the floor and leaving the information drifting off in the air as he kept getting distracted by his phone. 

I tried to eat. The food I had been working to make for a little under an hour didn’t even seem appealing. Not when I felt so uncertain and sick. 

His plate was empty besides some residue and crumbs. I piled mine onto his before taking the dishes over to my kitchen and placing them in the sink. He didn’t even offer to help. Or get off his fucking phone. 

After taking a deep breath, I turn around to find him sitting on my couch, sitting in the middle of the small piece of furniture with his legs spread lazily. He rests his phone on the coffee table. I pace over to him, expecting any sort of movement from his end to make room for me to sit. 

He doesn’t. 

“C’mere, just sit,” he directs, patting his lap while giving me a grin. 

Sighing, I try to let my anger fade. Why am I so frustrated? Why did this feel so belittling? I didn’t want to sit in his lap. But, I had only been so pent up about stupid things—things I could’ve voiced. Maybe if I had asked him to slip off his shoes, he would’ve. 

“I…could you just—take off your shoes? Sorry, I just don’t wanna—” 

I’m immediately cut off as he slips off his shoes, pulling me into his lap abruptly. My neck twists to the side as he nuzzles his nose against me, his breath making a laugh slip through my lips with an awkward discomfort. 

“Hmmmm,” he sighs, “-you look so sexy in this, babe. Did you wear it for me?” he asks. His hands plush against the tops of my thighs, sliding up and the skirt starts to bunch. Panic shrivels through my system as I clutch the fabric to sit straight. 

“Um, I,” my words hitch in my throat as I feel him place rough, hungry kisses on my neck. His hands push mine to the side, nearly pulling my skirt to bunch at my hips before I forcefully pull it back down. “-Hayden, I don’t wanna have sex tonight.” 

The statement seems to make him scoff against, his hands wandering to grip my waist before he lets himself cup my breast. “Ugh—are you sure? I mean, c’mon…” he gruffs. 

Gritting my teeth, I take his wrist and throw his hand back onto the couch, standing up and pulling down my skirt. “You can’t just do that. That—that’s—” My nose scrunches with frustration as I run blank with words. 

“That, what? Makes you feel unimportant?” he spits, echoing the same words that I had said to him when promising to try harder. 

Fuck.

I don’t know if it’s the anger of just the piles of emotions, but the warmth clouds my vision with tears as I bite into my cheek. 

“How does it make you feel? I just—fuck. I wanted to feel good. With you. That’s what couples do. Why the fuck—” he clenches his jaw before taking a deep breath, lowering his tone. “-why the fuck do you not want anything to do with me? I get that you tried—you made dinner. But…I just wanted to be a normal couple for once. You…you don’t even let me kiss you in public and now…” 

“I don’t like PDA. It—it makes me uncomfortable,” I say, whispering quietly as my chest gets heavier and heavier by the second. 

“You won’t even let me kiss you in private right now,” he points out. 

Because I know it won’t just be kissing. 

It’s what I wanna say. But the rage is fading into confusion and sadness as he looks at me pointedly. 

Hayden sighs deeply, resting his elbows on his knees before extending his hands out. Hesitantly, I place my hands in his. “Hey,” he starts, rubbing his thumbs over my knuckles while staring up at me. “-I just wanna appreciate you. We don’t have to tonight, I guess. I…I know you’re trying and we’re getting there, okay?” 

He’s trying, I’m trying.

But how am I not trying hard enough? 

Why did I have to just…snap?

If I had said it nicer, maybe it wouldn’t be like this. Maybe we wouldn’t have to feel like this. 

Maybe I’m not trying enough. 

“Come sit on my lap. We…we don’t have to do anything. Let’s just…I don’t know—we could watch a movie?” 

I nod, sitting back into his lap as he wraps an arm around my waist, leaning forward and grabbing the remote from the coffee table. As he pulls the object back, it flips his phone upwards. The bright screen catches my attention, my curiosity keeping my eyes trained on the small notifications that are unreadable from the distance. 

“Are you serious?” he huffs, grabbing his phone and shoving it into his pocket. 

“I’m sorry, I wasn’t trying to snoop—” I start, getting cut off by his brutally rushed voice. 

“If either of us were cheating, it would be you with the guys you hangout with all the time. You’re…fuck, just—let’s try to have a good night. You make shit so difficult sometimes.” 

I feel the uncomfortable edge of his phone prod into my thigh as I try to shift around. Hayden hisses through his teeth, a painful grip from his hands grasping into my hips. 

“Could you not? If—fuck,” he groans, making my body freeze to a stop, despite the prodding discomfort. “--are you sure, babe? We—”

“I��I don’t—” 

“It’s fine.” he cuts off. 

It’s not fine. His voice and his grasping hands staying latched onto me tell me it’s anything but fine. He’s frustrated. Just as much as me—if not more. 

My heart sinks into my near empty stomach as I sit tensely in his grip. A movie starts playing—a random one I’ve never seen before. I can tell by his laugh from the first line that this is one of the movies he likes. And I didn’t even know what it was. 

All I knew was I felt like shit.

I had been spam texting Manon like crazy. Hayden had left around an hour ago in an awkward silence, but fuck—that tension still lingered and I could feel my nails gripping into my own arms for some desperation to be grounded. 

She was busy. She had to go to bed since she had a ridiculously early shoot tomorrow. Her ‘goodnight’ text made my heart sink. 

And then there was another knocking on the door. 

Did he already come back? 

Taking soft steps to make as little noise as possible, I glance through the peephole and nearly drop to the floor. Matt’s face is impossibly close to the little tunnel. A breathless laugh pushes through my lips as I open the door, coming face-to-face with him.

“Matt? Jesus—you scared me!” I exclaim. 

“Sorry, I—I would’ve texted, but I was just, um…” his eyes shift to look behind. I swing the door open further, nodding my head inside as he walks in. “---Nick and Chris are at some party, but I got bored so I…came here, I guess?” he says, scratching the back of his neck. 

Tilting my head at his uncertain tone, I shut the door. Matt places a plastic bag on the counter, bending slightly to slip his shoes off and place them on the rack next to my sneakers. 

“What’s in the bag?” I ask. 

“Oh! Look, c’mere-” I follow behind Matt as he opens the crinkled bag. As he opens it, he pulls out a bag of chocolates—the chocolates I loved, but could never get. They were seasonal. Specifically–Valentine’s Day. I had only ever told him about them since we had only met in the summer and it’s only been a couple of months. 

“Matt! How did you find these!” I exclaim. He tears open the bag with a smile, grabbing a handful and hovering his hand in the air. I open my palm, a jittering flutter of nostalgia flowing through my body as the familiar pink Hershey Kiss wrappers land in my hold. 

“Apparently you can buy them online and I did a little bit ago just in case you were havin’ a bad day, ya know? I, also—” he reaches back in the bag, pulling out wax candy bottles, something he’s told me about from his own childhood. Matt was shocked when I said I’d never tried them before. He was determined to have me try one at some point.

I guess today was the day. 

A pout of overwhelming emotions clouds on my face. I set the chocolates down on the counter before wrapping my arms around his neck. Matt is stiff for a second. He melts into me completely, his arms hesitantly wrapping around my waist and his nose digging into my hair. 

“Thank you, I…I was having a shit day, to be honest.” 

He remembers—somehow he just knows. 

“I…of course, can we just, um—maybe let’s just sit on your couch and talk? Eat some junk?” he offers. A smile covers my face as I quickly nod against his chest. I go to pull away, letting out a light gasp as he tugs me in closer to his chest. 

It’s so warm.

I should question the extended hug. I should awkwardly laugh and pull away. But—I can’t help but melt into him completely, a sad look of reality crossing over my face as I reminisce on the heavy feeling in my chest. 

“Are you okay? Like—really?” he whispers. 

There’s a certain spotlight that makes everything seem more real. And it makes my eyes burn with warm tears as I choke on a dry laugh. 

“I mean—”

I try to play it off. The lighthearted choke is cut off as I feel him hug me tighter into his chest, making my voice crack as something just shatters in me. 

“No,” I let out shakily. “-not really, I…” I grow silent with trembling lips. 

“Hey, hey, hey, you don’t have to say anything, okay? I—we’re….we’re friends, I’m here for you. Let’s just relax for a bit, yeah?” he voices. 

The pressure from overwhelming emotions is relieved by his words. I don’t have to talk, I don’t have to do anything but relax.
