It was early, but Peter had been an early riser for a while now. It hadn’t been on purpose, but after working early shifts for so long his body naturally woke up. Besides, he still was plagued by nightmares that cut into his sleep. Sometimes he’d wake up from one at four in the morning and just give up on sleep, unwilling to go back to it.

This morning was his first in the house with his brother, his first time sharing a roof with Damien in twelve years. It felt strange, to wake up and feel entirely safe (well, nearly). Sabine seemed nice enough, a little hard to get a read on, but he liked her. How could he not, with all Damien had said that she had done? She was incredible, he already knew.

He didn’t know much of Faolan yet, only that it was his house. Peter felt a little uncertain being there without actually having met him yet, like he was intruding. But surely, if he had a problem with it he would have told one of the others? He almost felt like Captain America in the original Avengers comics from ‘63, when he had first made the decision to move into the mansion but hadn’t even met Tony Stark yet. It was a nerdy comparison, he knew, but he had discovered reading comic books online in his teenage years and it had been a welcome escape. A lot of things had been an escape. Various shows, movies, books. Anything that took place far away from Detroit was a welcome distraction.

Peter was dumping copious amounts of sugar to his already full of milk coffee when he heard the door and froze, looking over to see a man. “I really hope you’re Faolan,” he said, fifth spoonful of sugar hanging loosely over his mug.

As they sat on Clark’s back porch drinking chamomile tea, the men sat in mostly silence as they sipped and watched the sun go down. He turned to his old friend, a man who had known him longer than anyone else in town, though it had been months since they’d last spoken. “I don’t look older, I just look worse I think. I wish fae aged too, though your salted beard is fun to look at,” he said, reaching for Faolan’s chin.

She’d begged him to make an axe. ‘Whatever for?’ he’d asked. ‘I just think it would look cool in my room,’ she’d confessed. ‘An X with two axes, like in the movies.’ That was a week ago. Now it was quality control and they were in his roomy backyard, skirmishing. He had a long axe and she was using her new creation. The metals clanged with a glorious ring in the air, reverberating through her entire body. They wore clothes that were easy to move in as they side-stepped, watching each other. “Where’d you get this fine piece of property?” she asked, eyes not moving from his own. “I like your pink flamingoes,” she chuckled, smirking as she whacked him with her weapon. The blades weren’t blunted, but they were careful around each other, only using a percentage of their actual force. Still, he blocked her.

SETTING SAIL FOR DOMA

After much preparation, the Maelstrom’s 1st Squadron, 9th Levy has set sail on a two moons long journey to Doma on a mission of diplomacy. 

As is tradition when a Maelstrom land based Levy embarks on a lengthy sea voyage, the crew gathers to nominate, then vote, on who among them should be assigned specific leadership roles for the duration of the voyage. Nominations are based on sea faring skills rather than on years served in the Limsan Armada.
