Political Love
Harry Styles x president's child!Y/N
Y/N was the granddaughter of the current leading president candidate, making her and Harry's relationship, well, complicated.
Warnings: none
Word count: 3.5k+
gif not mine.
Tumblr media
“Okay, you have to be quiet, or else we are definitely going to get caught.” Y/N seethes to her boyfriend as she opens the sliding glass door to the back entrance of her home.
“Don’t you have like security guards and shit, I mean, you are the President’s granddaughter.” He asks in a hushed tone, making her press her finger sternly to her own lip, signaling for him to be quiet.
“One, yes I have security guards but they stay by the gates at night, no point in them watching me sleep. And two, he’s not president yet, so not many people even know who I am.” Y/N grabs Harry’s hand, pulling him the rest of the way through the door before using only the tips of her fingers to shut it closed, trying to make the least amount of noise as possible.
The large back living room that was attached to the back porch was where they stood, surveying the area to make sure they had not woken up anyone else in the house. It seemed to be clear as they made their way towards the kitchen.
Y/N’s house was definitely significantly different from Harry’s. She had always grown up very wealthy, coming from a large family line of politicians and lawyers. It wasn’t like Harry was poor, because he was definitely a part of one of the wealthier families in Y/N and Harry’s small hometown, but it was nothing compared to his girlfriend who lived in a million dollar gated community.
The kitchen was ginormous, with large granite countertops along with white cabinets that had slabs of glass in them, so you could see the expensive china that had hardly been touched inside of them. There was also beautiful dark wood colored flooring that lined the kitchen up until the carpet of the living room.
There was also another living room that was immediately connected to the kitchen with tall, twenty foot ceilings, a giant flatscreen T.v mounted on the wall, and a sizable gray sectional that wrapped the entirety of the room. The staircase to go towards Y/N’s room sat in the entryway towards the front of her house, which is where their end goal was.
As the couple made their way through the first floor of Y/N’s house, they pretty much stayed silent, besides for the few times Harry attempted to sneak kisses while they tiptoed through the living room, which Y/N had to quickly shut down before they got taken away and got caught.
The stairs were old in her house, it was almost like one of those old victorian style houses, with white picket fences and rustic wooden flooring. So, trying to make it up the large staircase without anyone hearing the dilemma was most certainly a challenge.
“Can’t you just step on the stairs at the same time as me?!” She seethed under her teeth as she turned back to look at her boyfriend, guilt twisting his features.
“Okay, okay!” He responded, attempting to match her foot patterns as they quietly snuck up the remainder of the staircase.
The door to Y/N’s bedroom door finally creaked shut as she winced at the sound from behind the door. Harry was already comfortably sprawled out over Y/N’s queen size bed, like he had done many other times before. The two of them were only seventeen, so they rarely ever did anything explicit, especially in Y/N’s house.
She turned the lock on her bedroom door quickly before making her way over to her boyfriend, crawling into her bed alongside him. She laid her head on his chest, wrapping one of her legs around his lower torso. His arm wrapped around her easily as he pressed his head into her soft, curled hair.
Y/N reached over toward her small nightstand, grabbing her remote that laid on top of it. Flicking her T.v on before turning the volume almost all the way down. Neither of the two know why they even bothered to turn the television on whenever they laid in Y/n’s bed, since they just talked over the low volume show anyways.
“Ya know, I’ve never really questioned why your room looks like a princess fairytale threw up all over it before.” Harry laughed as he glanced around his girlfriend’s room.
It was true, Y/N’s room looked like a child’s bedroom of someone who lived in a castle. Her bed posts on all four corners of it that extended all the way up to the ceiling, along with a curtained canopy surrounding it.
“Shut up!” She pouted as she hid her face in his chest, “I like it.”
“I was just kidding darling, I like it too.” He pulled her face back up so he could look at her properly. “It’s very fitting.”
She leaned up towards Harry’s face, giving him a gentle kiss, melting into him. They stayed like that for a moment before leaning her forehead against his, letting her eyelashes brush against his as her eyes fluttered shut.
“You know, we won’t be able to do this once you’re living in the White House.” Harry reminded her with a small smirk as they both stared at the small chandelier that hung above the canopy of her bed.
“I know.” She sighed pathetically, not wanting to admit that if her grandfather won the election, it was very unlikely that she would see him as much as she does now. “I’m just going to have to tell my family about us before the election day.”
Harry pressed a small kiss to the girl’s creased forehead, “You do whatever you want, whenever you’re ready.”
“No, no, I’m going to have to tell them sooner rather than later.” She denied his attempt to comfort her, “I mean, what’s the worst that could happen? They don’t even know who you are, so why would they hate you?”
“Exactly, baby.”
-----
“Oh shit, oh shit.” Y/N gasped as she heard the knocking on her bedroom door, feeling Harry’s arms snaked around her waist.
“Y/N? Darling, why is your door closed?” Her mother’s voice echoed from the outside of the wooden doorframe.
She quickly grabbed one of the many throw pillows that laid at the end of her bed, swiftly hitting Harry upside the head with it.
Before he could groan in unamusement, he felt his girlfriend’s hand quickly cup over his mouth, “You have to hide! My mom is trying to come in.” That made Harry move faster than he had ever before.
He quickly gathered his few things that he had discarded onto the nightstand before quickly making his way into the walk in closet that was connected to Y/N’s room, shutting the door quickly behind him.
“Y/N?” Her mother called again.
She was now sitting up in her bed, trying to contain herself before she had to get out of bed to unlock her door and allow her mom inside.
“One second!”
“Why have you got your door locked? Are you doing something you aren’t supposed to be doing in there?”
“No, no! Just trying to wake myself up for a moment!” Once Y/N finally gained her composure she stood up from her bed, sliding her feet into an old raggedy pair of slippers off of the floor next to her bed.
Y/N’s mother was already in her work attire when the door opened, she was leaning against the wall of the hallway, her hair cascading down her shoulders smoothly as she straightened out her suit jacket quickly.
“G’ morning” Y/N yawned, opening the door wider before turning back to walk inside her room, sitting at her vanity.
“Morning,” Her mother replies, taking only a step past the doorframe of her daughter's bedroom. “I just thought I’d come say hi before heading to the office for the day. Do you need anything before I leave?”
Y/N looked up towards her ceiling, pretending to think for a moment before shrugging her shoulders, “No, not that I can't think of.”
“Very well then.” The woman had a look on her face as she glanced suspiciously around her daughter’s room. “What is that?”
The girl felt her stomach drop, looking towards the floor where she was pointing. Sitting there wound up in a ball, was Harry’s shirt that he had discarded onto the floor before falling asleep last night.
“O-oh”
Observing her mother's face, she had a feeling as if her mom already knew what the piece of clothing was. “Oh goodness! Look at the time, I have to leave!”
“Okay, bye mom. Love you!” The younger girl called as the suit-clad lady made her way back towards the staircase at the end of the hall.
Before she could reach the stairs though, she replied quickly, “Your father will be home before supper, make sure you get all your school work done! Love you!”
As soon as Y/N hears the familiar sound of her mother's heels clomping down the stairs, she shuts her door, leaning against the back of it as she lets out an exaggerated sigh of relief.
“Am I good to come out now?” The closet door creaks open a small amount as Harry's head pops out of it slightly.
She nods, her head still leaned back in miserly as she looked at her ceiling. “I'm sorry.” she exhaled.
“Hey,” Harry grabbed her hand from where it was pressed against the door. “It's fine, baby. I'm not worried about it, and you shouldn't be either.”
It was quite obviously bothering her more than she was letting on, and Harry knew that, she didn’t have to let on a ton for him to be able to tell something was wrong. He also knew exactly what was bothering her.
She had always been scared to tell her family about Harry in fear of their reactions, and it never really came between their relationship early on because Y/N was very rarely home, making it easy for her to go to Harry’s house, or for the couple to go on dates.
But ever since her parents had demanded she spends more time at home with her family due to her grandfather’s election currently going on, it was very rare that she ever got much alone time with her boyfriend.
And she felt guilty about it.
“I-I just wish I could spend more time with you, and i wish that you could see how hard i’m trying, a-and-” The tears that started rolling down her face broke Harry’s heart, she couldn’t even finish her sentence because of how hard she was crying.
“C’mere love,” He pulled her frail body into his own chest, “It’s okay, sweetheart, it’s okay. I do see how hard you are trying and I know how hard this has been on you. I’m not mad, or upset, just take a breath.”
She completely crumbled into her boyfriend’s grip, sliding down the wall next to her door, “I’m such a bad girlfriend, I know I am. I’m sorry.”
“Woah, woah.” Harry stopped dead in his tracks, reaching down towards Y/N’s face that was hidden in his chest, pulling it up so her eyes met his own. “Don’t you dare say that, now or ever.”
“You,” He emphasized, pressing the pads of his thumbs against her cheekbones, “are everything I could have ever dreamed of, Y/n. You are absolutely perfect.”
It was insane how the mood had changed in the room so fast. Now Harry was seeing all of the pressure that his girlfriend had been building upon herself, and it had finally all come crashing down.
A heavy breath that Y/N felt like she had been holding for much too long finally fell past her lips as she tried to compose her emotions. She felt like a fool in the moment, having her boyfriend see her in such a state of distress.
“Sorry, sorry.” He backed out of his embrace, trying to act as if nothing had happened, “I’m fine...everything’s fine.”
“I want you to know that it’s okay to be upset, or frustrated, or afraid. I want you, and everything else that comes along with you, I just want to help, that’s it.” Harry tries to explain to Y/N.
Sh nuzzled her face against his shoulder blade, “Thank you.”
He kisses the top of her head, wrapping his arms around her shoulders “Don’t thank me.”
-----
“Y/N! Are you coming?” The booming voice echoed up the stairs, making Y/N snap her head towards the sound.
She was currently trying to put her last earring in her ear and put her small black heels on at the same time. They were already late, which was not a good first impression when your family is possibly about to be living in the whitehouse.
She hurried herself downstairs, but not before grabbing her phone off the charger and shoving it quickly in the dainty clutch she was planning on carrying around with her for the night.
Once she got to the bottom of the stairs, she stopped in the foyer to look at herself in the mirror, she felt two hands hold onto her shoulders from behind, “You look beautiful, sweetie, now come on, we have to leave.” It was her mother.
Their whole family was supposed to be dressed to the nines for the fancy dinner they were attending. Ever since the first time her grandfather ran for senate, the night before election day, the whole family would go out to a family dinner for good luck.
And it seemed to work, because her grandpa had won every election he’d ever ran in. But this was definitely the most important, because he wasn’t just running for senate, or congress, he was running for president.
It was nerve wracking to say the least.
When Y/N and her parents finally made it out the door, they were met with the signature black SUV in the driveway, along with two big buff men in fancy black suits standing near the doors, preparing to open them for the family.
The entire way to the restaurant Y/N’s mother gave her the same speech she gave her anytime they went to a function involving her grandfather and his career.
‘Be polite, don’t say anything out of turn, do not act foolish, do not throw food, do not act up with the cousins...blah blah blah.’
Waking into the large ballroom where the dinner was being held was absolutely insane. The first things that had caught Y/N’s eyes were the large chandeliers that had been hung all along the ceiling, one above every table. The glitter that covered the dance floor along with the arched balloon entrance made the entire space look like an old fashioned masquerade, and it was absolutely beautiful.
“Wow.” She gasped as her mother pulled her by the hand, leading her towards the large table in the center of the others, where her family always sat. “This is amazing. You planned this, didn't you?”
Her mother smiled brightly as she nodded, looking around the room with a proud look on her face. “Have you met me, daughter?” She then smirks.
Y/N laughed, deciding to begin walking around to look at all of the decorations around the large ballroom. Of course Y/N and her entire family had known of Y/N’s mother to be very over the top, but this year’s fancy dinner was nothing like the ones of previous years.
There were cakes, desserts, and balloons everywhere you looked. A large banner that said “congratulations future Mr. President!” hung up along the large wall in front of their families table.
As Y/N continued to look around, she noticed the overwhelming amount of people, to which her mother told her “We invited everyone who had ever had anything to do with Pop’s success.”
It was sweet, seeing all new people who were there to support her grandfather.
“Y/N?” She hears a familiar voice call quietly from behind her, she whips her head around to see who was speaking. “Hi baby.” Harry whispers.
“Oh my-” She cuts herself off, looking at her boyfriend with wide eyes. “What are you doing here” She asks in a rush.
“My parents got invited, said that your grandpa was an old friend of theirs.”
“What a small world.” Y/N smiles, hugging Harry quickly as to not draw speculation before pulling away. “I'm sorry i have to be so discrete, it's just that- well, my parents are luring around here somewhere and-”
Harry cuts her off, “I know, Y/N, I know.”
“You know what,” Y/N grabbed his hand, pulling him along with her.
“Babe, what are you doing?” Harry asked with a light smile as Y/N got closer and closer to where her family was sitting. He was starting to get nervous, not knowing what Y/N was planning on doing.
A few moments later Y/N seas standing at the edge of the table where her family was sitting, hand in hand with Harry. A few of her cousins gav them confusing looks when they saw their intertwined hands, but most of the family didn't even notice, only exchanging hellos quickly.
“This is Harry, he's my boyfriend.” Harry almost choked on his own spit when she said it, especially so suddenly.
There were some shocked expressions and some were confused with how the two even knew each other, but for the most part, the reaction was pretty positive.
“Oh really?” Her mother asked, looking up at Y/N from where she was sitting. “I've met Harry's family, only heard good things about him.”
Y/N let out a sigh of relief at her mother's support, that was before she looked over at her father.
His eyebrows were furrowed with a sour look on his face, “I don't understand how you think you can go and get a secret boyfriend, date him for weeks, or months, or whatever, without my knowledge and think it's okay.”
“Dad-” Y/N was cut off.
“This is not how I raised you, keeping secrets like this.”
“Honey,” Her mother looked at Y/N’s father with a stern look on her face. “She's telling us now, you can't expect her to tell us every single thing about her life. Like I said, I've only heard good things about Harry. You should just be happy that your child is happy.”
His face seemed to relax a bit, Y/N’s hand suddenly holding Harry's much tighter in fear of what he was going to say next. “You treat my girl alright?” His question was directed towards Harry, making him fix his posture and look at his girlfriend's father personally.
“Dad-” This was not how Y/N wanted this conversation to be going.
“Of course I do, sir.” Harry cut her off, making her father nod.
“Good.”
Y/N raised her eyebrows, “good?”
“As long as you're happy, angel” It was shocking to Y/N how understanding her father became so quickly. She was expecting it to take at least a couple weeks.
“thank you, dad.” She wrapped her dad in a hug, finally feeling relieved.
“of course, pumpkin.”
-----
“Well that was fun, wasn't it?” Harry laughed as he and Y/N danced together.
Y/N nodded as she laughed, “Yeah, it definitely was.”
It was getting close to the end of the night at the dinner party. Everyone had eaten dinner and had their dessert, and now was the relaxing part of the night where everyone just hung out, danced and had a good time.
Y/N’s hands were on Harry's shoulders, his hands on her waist as they swayed gently to the music that was playing slowly throughout the room.
Harry had been admiring the dress Y/N was wearing for quite some time now, she looked beautiful. The dress she had chosen was a gorgeous, golden ball gown that flared at her waist and ruffled all of the way down to her ankles. You could also see the sleek, while stiletto heels on her small feet.
“You look absolutely stunning, sweetheart.”
A small blush quickly rose to the girls cheeks, “Thank you.” She smiled back at him, “You look great too, you should wear suits more often, they look really good on you.”
Everyone looked so happy, including Pop, who had come up to Y/N and Harry during dinner to congratulate them, which the couple found pretty ironic that the (hopefully) soon to be president was congratulating them at his election dinner party.
But Y/N was especially happy among the room full of people, standing here, dancing with Harry like she had always wanted. The life that she had always envisioned with Harry was finally being pieced together, no more secrets, no more hiding.
They could just be Them. Harry and Y/N.
“I love you.” Y/N’s eyes widened when she had registered what she had just blurted out, her hand falling over her agape mouth.
All Harry did was smile though, kissing her on the forehead before softly saying, “I love you too.”
Thank you to the anon who suggested this! i really love it and might make it a series? what do you guys think?!<3

haha nice reference to,,, your own songs,,
its just? so pure???
we need to talk
its boppy but like in a sad way yknow??
“cause you shine brighter than morning... at least i thought you did”
the,,, th e ,, l i dd, ol g i g,,, th, e g i gg, le,,,,,,,
“fuck me” idk why i think thats so funny but it is
fandom
dream boy
actually just slaps. 10/10
but also?? the lyrics?? discussing an unhealthy expectation from fans that is built completely on each individual fans emotional needs and is therefore unlikely to be fulfilled for everyone??? A+ i love it
another example of the song sounding like exactly what its trying to express. its almost overproduced, larger than life, built to sound almost fake just like what its trying to condemn through sarcasm, especially in the video. incredible. love it.
i felt younger when we met
“i said i loved you to death/so i must be dead” is such a gutpunch of an opener. hits you right away
the entire chorus is just great
HOO BOY THE PRE-CHORUS. THE F U C KIN G-
again an amazing song to be sad/have a mental breakdown to no i dont speak from experience what do you mean
the transition into cherry red is fucking genius okay
high definition
where do i even start
its just so perfect. relatable even if youve never experienced the exact thing hes referring to. honest, understated, emotional, heartbreaking.
every single time you listen to it a different line hits you
yet another song to cry to
awsten was not lying when he said this was the best song hes ever written
feels like holding a vigil for yourself.
overall just... perfect
anyway that was probably way too long and annoying and you probably wont read all of it but like,,, goddamn i needed to ramble. thank you soooooo much for the ask and have a wonderful day 💜🥺

I've been re-reading your old works for the Revival like Recocering Nicely and Flannel Pajamas,....I miss them being an old married couple doing domestic stuffs so much, can you write something like that again?
Friday Night by: mldrgrl Rating: PG Note: Set during season 10, erasing any season 11 from the table
Fridays are full of anticipation nowadays.  At first, when they were just starting to get back on track, more often than not he was going home alone.  But, now, he can’t remember the last time Friday rolled around and she didn’t have her weekend bag with her.  There’s nothing he looks forward to more than a Friday night.
They take one car out to the house, usually his, leaving the other in the parking garage at work until Monday.  The ride is long, but comfortable.  Scully rests her hand on his arm across the seat and they talk about mundane things that aren’t about work.  Mulder wants to cut the grass if there isn’t any frost in the morning.  He loaded the crock pot with the stuff for that stew Scully likes this morning.  Hopefully he remembered to turn it on before he left.  That new thing Scully found online to weatherproof the windows came in.  He needs to put in the order for the wood for the stove to be delivered soon.
“An hour and change,” Mulder says, stopping the car in front of their gate.  “New record.”
“You really need to think about installing the remote.”
“I like the exercise.”  He leans close to her as he unbuckles his seatbelt and gives her a peck on the cheek.  She cups his chin with a backwards hand for a moment and then unbuckles her own belt.
Scully takes over in the driver’s seat as Mulder handles the gate.  She drives down the dirt road slowly, avoiding the dips and bumps up to the front.  She’s got her overnight bag from the trunk and Mulder’s dry cleaning that they stopped to pick up weighing her down by the time he’s made it to the car.  He takes the dry cleaning from her and places a hand to the small of her back as they ascend the porch steps.
“My nose is telling me I didn’t forget to turn the crock pot on,” he says, opening the door for her.
“Gonna change first.  Looks like we’re in for a beautiful sunset.  Want to eat outside?”
“Sure.”
He puts the dry cleaning away while she puts on a pair of sweats and a long-sleeved shirt.  He turns on the radio.  It’s still on the classical channel Scully last had it on and he leaves it be, coming into what sounds like The Planets Suite.  He thinks he recognizes Jupiter.  He thinks about setting up the telescope.
While Scully dishes out the stew, he changes into jeans and a light sweater.  Noticing a bit of a chill, he brings one of the blankets from the couch with him after he grabs the bowl left for him on the counter to join her.  She tucks it around her and they eat to the strains of Holst in the background as twilight begins its takeover.
They head back inside when it turns grey and too chilly.  Scully separates the leftover stew into two containers, one to store for leftovers for the weekend and the other to freeze for later.  She washes the dishes and Mulder dries.
“Did you bring the paper in?” he asks.
“In my bag,” she answers.
“We need under 36 minutes to beat last week.”
“36 minutes and 14 seconds.”
“Across or down?”
“Down.”
They huddle close on the couch and Mulder opens the newspaper to the crossword.  He folds it appropriately while Scully starts the timer on her phone.  Mulder starts with the clues running across and Scully starts with the clues running down.  They have a goal of beating each week’s previous time.
“Oh, they’re being cheeky,” Mulder says.  “They’ve got the question marks in here.”
“You like the cheeky ones.”
“When they’re clever.”
After ten minutes, they switch directions.
“Life source?” Scully asks.  “Is that the cheeky one?”
“You get the answer?”
“M-I-blank-blank-blank-N-blank-R-A-”
“Milton Bradley,” he answers, before she finishes.
“Clever or not?” she asks, filling in the blanks.
“They’ve done better.  Hey, you’re supposed to fill-in all the Latin clues.”
“Mulder, do you know how many 3-letter Latin 101 words there are?”
“How many end in O?”
“Too many.”
“I think it starts with an E.”
“Ego.”
“I should’ve known that.”
“I’ll say.”
He bumps her shoulder with his and she chuckles.  They switch for a second time a few minutes later and then they’re racing against the clock.  He puts down his pen when there’s nothing but a corner left.
“You always leave the Tolkein monsters clue blank,” Scully huffs.
“I didn’t have 5 down yet, it still could be orcs or ents.”
“Ents.  5 down is Etsy.”
“What the hell is an etsy?”
“Online craft store.  You know it, it’s where I got those bath bombs you liked.”
“The eucalyptus ones?  You should get more of those.”
“I’ll see if they still have them.  Time!”
“33 and 51 seconds.  High five g-woman!”  He grabs her hand when she slaps his and laces their fingers together.  “Seriously, though, you need to go to the etsy store and get more of those bath bombs.”
“Remind me tomorrow.”
“Movie?”
“I’m thinking a shower and then bed.”  She moves to stand, but he pulls her down to his lap.  She chuckles and drapes her arms around his neck.
“Scully, do you remember back in the day when we used to pull all-nighters like it was nothing and now we’re lucky if we make it past nine?”
“Seems we used up all our reserve energy when we were young.”
“Younger, don’t go calling us old.”
“You brought it up first.”  She gives him a brief kiss on the lips and then he lets her go.
While she showers, he takes the newspaper to the recycle bin and sets up the coffee maker for the morning.  He checks the locks on the front door and the back door and pulls the shades in the living room and kitchen.  He pulls his sweater off as he heads upstairs and tosses it on the bed before he goes into the bathroom.  Scully has finished her shower and sits on the closed toilet in a towel, massaging lotion into her legs.  The room is humid from the shower and the mirror is fogged over.
“I set the coffee for 7,” he says, pulling his toothbrush and toothpaste from the medicine cabinet. “Too early?”
“It’s fine.”   She makes a noise and he turns.  She has her hands held out to him and he puts the toothbrush and toothpaste on the side of the sink and gives her his hands so she can massage the extra lotion into his hands and arms.
“Is this new?  It smells like oranges.”
“Yeah, some vitamin C thing a salesperson at the mall talked me into.”
“You hate the mall.”  He pastes his toothbrush and starts brushing his teeth.
“I do, but sometimes the Labor Day sales are too hard to resist.  2 for 1 bras at Victoria’s Secret, I had to go.”
“What, now?”  Mulder turns towards her and pulls the toothbrush out of his mouth.  Foam coats his lips.  She laughs lightly and shakes her head.
“Kidding,” she says.  “But, good to know you’re still interested in my lingerie.”
“I might be old, but I’m not dead.”
Scully smiles and stands on tiptoes to kiss the corner of Mulder’s mouth.  She pats his chest lightly and then rubs a bit of toothpaste residue from her bottom lip.  He turns to finish brushing his teeth, wiping fog away from the mirror to watch her move comfortably around the room and get ready for bed.  He waits until she’s dropped the towel and slipped her t-shirt on to spit and rinse.
She tosses his shirt at his head when he steps into the bedroom.  He grins and hangs it up and then they turn the bed down together.  He sheds his jeans and then opens the window just a crack to let some fresh air in.
“Almost time to pull out the flannel sheets,” she says, as he gets into bed.
“I’ll keep you warm,” he answers, wrapping an arm around her under the covers and sliding her into his chest.  She laughs and wiggles out of his hold as he tickles the back of her neck and shoulder with his lips.
Briefly, Scully turns her head back and after several soft kisses, she pulls away to turn over and shut off the lamp.  Mulder rolls onto his back and she settles on her side after punching the pillow flat a few times.  Five minutes pass and then she sighs.
“Are you still awake?” she asks.
“Mmhm,” he answers.
She turns over to face him and he turns his head towards her.  “I’ve been thinking about something,” she says.  “Something I think we need to talk about.”
“Okay.”  He turns over as well and folds his arm under his head.
“The lease on my place is up at the end of October.  I don’t think I’m going to renew.”
“Oh?  So, what are you thinking?”
“The commute out here is not ideal.  Especially with winter coming.  I was wondering if you might want to find a place in the city.  Or closer to the city.  Together.”
“Get rid of the house?”
“No, never.  This is...this is our home.”
He nods in agreement.  He’s always thought of it as their home, whether she’s been in it or not.
“I was thinking just a place we can be at during the week,” she continues.  “And we’ll still come out here on the weekends.”
He mulls it over.  As much as he wants to be with her and wants to return to the life they once shared, he has some reservations.
“Mulder?” she asks.  “You’re never this quiet.  What are you thinking?”
“You know I want this more than anything,” he answers.  “But, what if this is only working because you got the space you wanted?  And we’ve never done the living and working together thing before.  It would be new.  What if we recommit and then it becomes too much?”
She contemplates the ceiling for some time and he reaches out to stroke her hair and cup her cheek.
“I thought, at the time, that leaving was the right thing to do,” she says.  “I know that I accused you of being a weight that was pulling me down into your depression and despair, but in hindsight, it was the other way around.”
“I never felt that way.”
“I know, but I did.  I thought returning to medicine would be satisfying.  I thought it was the key to happiness.  Something normal.  Instead it just made me sad.  And then I thought leaving was the only way to fix it, but I was wrong.  Really, what I missed was us.  Being with you, working with you, just you and me.  I don’t feel whole without you.”
“Hey now, that’s my line,” he whispers, running his thumb over her cheek.
“It’s true.”
“So, we’re doing this?  Full time?”
“I’m ready for it if you are.”
“Bring it on, honey.”
She chuckles and they slide closer to rest their heads together.  Their legs tangle and arms move to hold on to each other.  He’s filled with a new sense of anticipation.  He won’t ever have to wonder anymore if she’ll be coming with him Friday nights.

-------------------
It was around midnight when the huge slaughtering went down around the small motel in CaliFOnia. The Rolling Stones were on the search for a hospital since Ronnie is a dumbass and got attacked by a Mick robot. Keith has been on his side the entire trip. He was quite upset about everything that happened since they went on vaca. His whore side hoe got killed, his Cyborg Mick didn't work out well, and now his best friend is now slowly dying.
"Don't worry buddy, you will be fine, I swear," Keith said calmly.
Ronnie didn't seem to be having a problem with anything. He was just there looking at Keef, smiling.
"Well.... this has been a helluva ride! You Rolling Stones whores are something!" He added.
Bill just rolled his eyes and looked out the window. Charlie was still trying to figure out why he's in a band full of dumbasses. Keith looked away for a second and later realized that Ronnie wasn't there anymore. He panicked.
"G-guys!! Ron disappeared!" Keith yelled. Bill and Charlie looked back at him. They were confused. Charlie sighed in relief. No more dumbasses.
"Where in bloody hell did he go, you monkey!?" Bill yelled. Keith searched the whole van and did not find him anywhere. Charlie looked out the windshield and spotted Ronnie on top of a roof of a strip club.
"Bill! BILL!" He pulled on his hair to get his attention. "That big nose whore is on top of that roof!" He said as he pointed up at him. Keith pressed his monkey face on the glass and spotted him.
"RON! How in the actual fuck did ya get up there!?" Keith asked as the van pulled up to the parking lot of the strip club. He kicked the door open and ran up to the building.
"Oh hiya there Keith! Beautiful view up here! I can see every single building from here!" Ronnie said with a chuckle. Keith extended his arms in case he decides to jump off.
"Ron! Get down from there! You're going to fall!" Keith said sounding very worried. Ronnie just laughed.
"Nah! Mate! I won't fall! I've done this many times with my mate, Rod!" He said. Keith was utterly confused. Bill and Charlie walked up to Keith to tell him that they should get going. Keith refused to leave Ronnie behind so he climbed onto the roof. He then realized that he is afraid of heights. He slowly walked up to Ronnie.
"Alright mate, just walk over to me and lets get down safely, okay?" He said calmly. Ronnie just smiled widely at him. He did a T-pose and fell forwards. Keith panicked and ran to the edge of the building. He didn't see him anywhere.
"Charlie! Where did he go!?" He said in a very shaky voice. Charlie pointed up to the sky. "You dumbass! Why would you even consider that huh!?" He yelled. Charlie shook his head in disappointment.
"You Muppet! That is not wot I meant! He's up in the sky flying!" Charlie yelled in response. Keith looked up to the sky. There he was, flying around like a chicken. He was so confused. He the heard music coming from a building that was across from the strip club. A blonde big nose whore was standing on there singing some song that said something among the lines of "I'm flying."
"Wot the fuck?....." Keith said to himself. Bill and Charlie seemed to be entertained by the music. Bill looked up at Keith, who was still on top of the roof.
"Hey matey! Get your monkey ass down from there and come look at this spectacular show!" He yelled. Keith was hella annoyed by everything. He got down from the building and headed to the van. Ronnie was preparing for landing but a pamper flew into his face and caused him to fly into the dumbass bitch, Rod. It caused a huge explosion. Bill and Charlie hugged each other in fear. They slowly looked at each other and pulled away. That was awkward. Keith was once again hella upset.
"Let's get the fuck out of here...." He said as he hopped in the van. The Rolling Stones were once again on the run. Keith could not believe that he'd just lost his two best friends. Ron was like a corn dog to him.
"Where are we headed?" Bill asked Charlie. He just sat there thinking if they could possibly go back home because he just wants to go home. The only problem was that they didn't have money to book a flight to go back to Britain. They were stuck in the states for a while. Keith reached into his underwear and pulled out a picture of his whore best friend, Mick. He seriously wished he was by his side, even if it was for just a little bit. A tear ran down his monkey face and quickly wiped it away. Bill and Charlie saw someone crossing the street.
"Jesus CHARLIE STEP ON THE BLOODY BREAKS!" Bill yelled.
Charlie did what he was told. The van did a loud skkkrt sound. Keith flew into the seat. Dumbass didn't wear his seatbelt. Charlie and Bill sat there completely startled. There stood a man who was average height with longish hair and blue eyes. Keith took a glance at him. He could not believe his eyes.
"M-Mick?" He said softly.
The figure walked closer to the van. His skin was pale and was covered in dry blood. His clothes were worn out and dirty.
"Sweet mother of-" Charlie added.
Keith quickly exited the van and ran up to him. Mick took out a blade and pointed it at Keef. He stood there in fear of him getting stabbed by his zombie friend.
"M-Mick," he began, "Its me, you're buddy. We've known each other since we were dumb fucks."
Mick slowly turned his head to look a Keef. His eye color was faded to a light blue shade. He stared at him for a while until he put away his blade. He was shocked to once again see his monkey friend after he had gotten killed by Mick Taylor.
"Its okay buddy, I ain't going to hurt ya..... Just want to be with you again...." Keith explained.
Mick stood there in silence.
"Jesus wot is this!? Some kind of weird romantic zombie movie!? Oh fuck that matey! I ain't here for that! I just want my damn band back!" Mick said.
Keith chuckled and pulled Mick in for a tight hug. Surprisingly, Mick hugged him back.
"Jesus Mick! Where the hell were you!? How did you find us!? I thought I lost you forever!" He rambled.
"Well, Monkey, after you had left me there at the dumpster, I woke up and followed the tracks from the van." Mick explained. "It was a helluva ride!"
Keith was glad that his bestie was back. He couldn't stop smiling like an idiot. Bill and Charlie just sat there in the van face palming their faces.
"Well.... We're back to square one....." Bill said to Charlie.
Charlie just wants to go home.
"I am hella glad you're alive! Heck I even tried to replace you with a cyborg version of you!" Keith said as he fixed his pants.
"You did wot now?..." He asked.
"Doesn't matter! You're here now! Meaning we can go back to being friends and being in our band!" Keith added.
Mick just smiled in response. They both hoped into the van. Bill and Charlie shook their heads in disappointment. They threw Mick in the dumpster for a reason and somehow he managed to find them. They really thought they did something. Lol. Mick and Keef kept going on about plans they had for their road trip. Mick really wanted to go to January so Keith yelled into Bill's ear to drive them to McDonald's because he really wanted some lettuce from there. All Mick wanted was eat brains but he resisted. Bill rolled his eyes and began to drive. Mick sucked Keef's penis to pass the time. Charlie shoved them out of the van because he seriously did not want to see dumb fucks sucking each other's dicks.
The Rolling Stones made it to a fairly large city that was located in Wendy's bathroom. Mick and Keef kept making out in the back of the van.
"We should totes do that....." Bill said to Charlie with a small chuckle. Charlie just sighed deeply.
"I just want to go home.... Is that too much to ask for? We've been all over the place and it's been exhausting for me." Charlie explained. Bill just sighed. He patted his shoulder and looked at him dead in the eye.
"Don't you worry about a thing, we'll go home soon." He said in a soft voice. Charlie just looked into his dark eyes. He began to feel warm. Mick chocked on Keef's dick and was trying to figure out how the fuck that happened because his monkey penis isn't the biggest here. He then saw Bill and Charlie kissing each other.
"Oh shit matey!" Mick yelled which resulted in him getting a shoe thrown at him.
Keef got lost and has no idea what just happened. The Rolling Stones stopped by a motel that has been vandalized by Led Zeppelin.
"Oh no.... those damn crusty ass bastards are here...." Charlie added. Bill spotted one of the members who was pissing in the pool. He was truly concerned about them.
"Wotever you lads do.... do not get near Led Zeppelin, those bastards do witch craft and eat goats hearts." Bill explained.
"Oh shut it you! We literally eat goats head soups!" Keef yelled. Bill was hella confused. When did they do that? They checked out rooms that had two singles. Mick and Keef are going to share beds while Bill and Charlie sleep on the other bed. This was going to be a sexy night. Sorry, Rod Stewart is holding me hostage as I write this whole fanfic. The Glimmer Hoes removed their clothes and laid in bed. Keef fell asleep pretty quick. Charlie and Bill stared at the ceiling and fell asleep. Mick didn't need sleep at all. So he went out to the porch and saw two led zeppelin members fucking each other in the pool. He's got some inspo there! There was another band staying in the motel. Mick absolutely hated them with a burning passion.
"Oh those bloody Beatles! we're constantly getting compared to one another!" Mick said angrily. He came up with a very beautiful idea. He reached in his trousers and took out his blade. "Let's Dance! Put on your red shoes and dance the Blues!" Oh Mick loves Bowie so much. He walked up to The Beatles and began to slice their head open to eat their brains. He let one go but was killed by a Led Zeppelin member. There was no point in doing that honestly. Mick went back to the room. He was still hungry and needed more brains to devour. He stood there in the doorway looking at his buddies. He slowly walked in and shut the door behind him.

Lincoln Square Chicago –  EDMAR Corporation Masonry Tuckpointing Service Area
Lincoln Square, situated on the North Side of the city of Chicago, is among 77 distinct Chicago neighborhood areas. It incorporates the smaller sized neighborhoods:
Ravenswood
Ravenswood Gardens
Bowmanville
Budlong Woods
and  Lincoln Square
In the 1920s, the University of Chicago separated the City into area areas, one of which was Lincoln Square, which included the existing Ravenswood community. Although sometimes being called using those other designations, the Lincoln Square name was made official in 1925.
Approximately 44K people live in the neighborhood with over 1,000 small to medium size companies. You can get there suing the Brown Line of the ‘L’. The community’s borders are defined by Bryn Mawr and Peterson Ave. on the North, Montrose Ave. on the South, Ravenswood Ave. on the East and the Chicago River on the West. The are consist mostly of the single family and small multi-unit structures. A lot of those properties are masonry and require periodical tuckpointing and other service to maintain their sound integrity.
The heart of Lincoln Square is at the junction of Lawrence, Western and Lincoln Ave. You’ll find a wide variety of dining establishments and stores on Lincoln Ave going South from the six-corner junction. Lincoln Square is traditionally referred to as a greatly German influenced and inhabited community, and in the past several years also welcoming the Thai culture.
Lincoln Square is also a place that holds variety of festivals and live music events on seasonal basis. One of the very well-known ones is the Apple Fest, that brings the neighborhood together in celebration of the beginning of fall. Every summer, the Lincoln Square organizes the Square Roots Festival, dedicated to German culture.

Sometimes it feels like tradesmen are not very interested in taking our business. However, Ed made me feel like a valued customer. Because we wanted to do some foundation planting before it got too cold, Ed scheduled us only about 10 days after we signed the deal. They did a terrific job for a better price than the other quotes I got. They even did some extra work at no charge to remove some paint off the brick where a gutter used to hang. A couple of neighbors stopped to complement us on how great the house looked. Then, my customer satisfaction got even better. We had a storm a couple days after the tuckpointing was done. The front gate post is bolted onto the front of the house and that cedar fence post snapped off. Of course they had not tuckpointed behind the fence post, so now that much lighter mortar color was exposed. So they came back at no charge within a week and tuckpointed that spot. I have never written a Yelp review before, but I want to express how pleased I am. This small house got treated like a big deal (which it is to me). read less

My client and her siblings, also with impairments, were so happy with John from Edmar and selected him right off the bat, even though his estimate was higher than the other estimate they received. Edmar wound up giving them a discount, which made the cost come down a bit, which made the client happy. Not only did John and his crew offer to fix the roof, they were able to fix other things in the home, such as putting in drywall and painting the ceiling to seal the crack, installing two new light fixtures and two smoke detectors, installing a new screen door and fixing an old garage door that would not close properly and covering some holes in the wall. We asked John if he could select/purchase the light fixture/smoke detector and factor the cost into the contract, which he was able to accommodate, which made it so much more convenient for the client, who would have needed help to do such. While the work was being done, the client kept asking John for other things that they wanted fixed, which he did even though they were not in the contract. The other things were paid for separately, but this goes to show the company's ability to accommodate people with disabilities who do not understand how these things usually work. As her case manager, I am grateful for his patience, sense of humor and treatment of them as any other individual and for not taking advantage of them, as others might have done in this situation (and have done in the past). In my opinion, he and his crew went above and beyond and the client is very happy with the work and plan to use him again in the future, as I would. read less

He was VERY professional and you could tell he has years of experience under his tool belt, and knew exactly what I wanted. He got back to me within the same day and scheduled an appointment for the next day. *Considering that some companies and contractors didn't have the professinalism or decency to call me back or wouldn't show up to our meeting, we were already off to a great start. Then here comes the best part - compared to the other estimates/bids I got, Edmar's was the most straight forward and cost efficient as opposed to the competition. Not only that, but I felt at ease choosing them given how long they've been in the business. And even at a decent price, they did some 5-star quality work, I was very impressed. The guys who did the work were all professional and they left the work site spotless each day. Very satisfied with their work. I'll certainly be using them again when I need more repairs on my building, and would highly recommend to friends, family, and fellow Yelpers. read less

I hired them to come and redo the siding, soffits, gutters, and downspouts on the addition of my 1927 Mediterranean-inspired brick Tudor in Highland Park. The workers were incredibly polite and cleaned up after themselves every day. They greeted me in the morning and said goodbye at the end of the day (with confirmation of next step/part of work plan). The work as far as we can tell is impeccable. The calking around the vertical seams and lengths of hardi board were very well done and even. I’m in the midst of a backyard renovation. Edmar Corp. made sure to check with the deck guys about some questions they had that might impact their job. The people in the office were really quick to respond to my emails and any questions. I’m also a good communicator, so I don’t usually have issues with this. Who knows if the good communication requires a good client. The work ended up better than I expected. It was one of the few times wit my very old, brick home where I felt like the work actually was worth maybe more than what I paid. Every single thing didn’t go 100% there’s always room for improvement, but in terms of these types of companies I give them an A+ See some before during after photos. Really happy! read less

After talking to a few tuck pointing companies it was obvious that Edmar Corporation was the one. Ed came to our home and I knew by his body language and his confidence that my project was going to go smooth. I am 59 years old and have been around the block a few times and can usually tell if something isn't right about a person and their company. I gladly signed the contract and a couple of weeks later his crew came out and did an excellent job on my home. They were all business when they came. Got right down to working immediately. No Smoking , No Bullshitting, No goofing around . Just very professional and extremely hard working. All the areas were spotless when they left. They respected my home. Can't ask for much more than that. I never take the time to write this kind of stuff. But I am so happy with their work that i want to tell the world. read less

For the past five days I had a crew of 5 working on my 3 story building in Chicago. I have to admit it was neglected and in a very bad shape since no work has been done on it for decades… it’s probably close to 100 years old. It’s a brick structure, with 3 chimneys that had holes in it and every time it rained my basement was flooding. There are 14 windows with steel beams that needed replacement due to heavy rust, this also involved partial rebuilding of walls above those beams. My last problem was the wall section that sticks above flat roof surface, I think they call it “parapet wall” or something, which has disintegrated almost completely and basically required full rebuilding. I just wanted to say “Thank you” for all the work that was done on my house and recommend Ed (the owner of EDMAR) to everyone looking for a good mason. read less

We had to reconstruct our brick and wrought iron fence after the garbage truck relocated it to the ground. It wasn't a huge project and many of the masonry companies we called wouldn't even come and give an estimate because "it wasn't worth it". We found Edmar on yelp and the experience was awesome from start to finish. When I called to schedule an estimate, Ed came to my house within 48 hours and arrived at exactly the time he said he would arrive. He thoroughly inspected the damage and found other damage that other masons had completely missed. We were provided a written estimate on the spot. When I called Ed to give the go ahead a few days later, he was able to get our job done that week. Once again, he arrived with his crew at exactly the time he had provided. The job was done perfectly within one day. Unfortunately, it is hard to find honest and trustworthy companies in construction. Edmar Corp. breaks every stereotype. Quality work and excellent service!! If you need masonry work, don't even both to call around - Just call Edmar. read less

I reviewed a number of companies and eventually settled on Edmar as they were clearly the most knowledgeable and the most experienced. I've found out the hard way that it's not always best to go with the cheapest proposal...had some contractors rebuild my chimney a while back only to have the mortar crack 5 years later (!!!) Edmar was not the cheapest, but you definitely get what you pay for, and when it comes to home repair, you want the job done right. I called to set up an appointment and Ed stopped by the next day to give me an estimate. I had some cracked bricks above my first story window and turns out the lintels needed to be replaced. Ed outlined how the job would be done and gave me an approximate amount of time it would take to complete (Turns out, he was right on target!) They replaced the lintels and rebuilt part of the wall using the same face brick as the rest of the house so it looked perfect. I cannot praise his workers enough--they were very competent, super respectful, and took the time to answer all of my questions. I will definitely be using Edmar again in the future. Our chimney was in pretty bad shape—missing bricks and apparently a cracked concrete cap. Ed stopped by to check it out and told us that the chimney had to be rebuilt above the roofline. He counted the number of bricks needed, in addition to a new cap and replacement clay tiles. We got a great price and hired Edmar for the job. The crew that came out was very skilled and hardworking. They even tuckpointed a few areas around the house where the mortar was cracked and loose (without an extra charge). After a couple days, we had a brand new chimney and some fresh tuckpointing. In order to attain inside look of the kitchen we wanted, we needed to brick some windows in and maybe move the door and also repair the chimney. I called a few companies on yelp and in discussing quote and scope of work, Edmar came out ahead, the owner met with my husband, he showed up very prepared with his ladder and binoculos to take a close look at the chimey and he had very great ideas as to which windows he will suggest we brick in and what to do with the door, he gave us a lot to think about in a good way, he also gave us the quote on site, who does that, it was fabulous, since we had previously talked to other companies, we felt good enough to sign the contract and have them start work immediately. He suggested replacing more than just the first few layers of the chimney and pointed out that the old ones will crumble soon underneath the new one. He moved our back door from off the kitchen to off the family room which we like so much better because we have more cabinet space now and he used some of the brick from the new opening to patch the old opening. He also tried his best to match the old brick, he did a pretty good job, so much that you wouldnt really know it from the outside unless it was pointed out. His guys were in and out in a jiffy. point is, although he wasn't the cheapest, he was the most thoughtful and we felt his job was quality without a doubt. He also did some crack repairs on the outside of our property, he removed the bricks and relayed them with morter, patching everything. The only thing was that there are some morter stains on a few bricks in that one area where they repaired the cracks that my husband is not happy about, and he point it out every day now. Eitherway, I will still give them 5 stars. read less

Compared to all the other contractors that stopped by, Ed gave the most information about why we have the issue and how it would be repaired. He also gave us the estimate right away. The price was great, but we had to wait a couple weeks since it was busy season and our project was small. Ed's team finally came by a week ago, and the job was done thoroughly. Everything looks great and they cleaned up afterwards. The price and quality was great, we'll definitely work with Edmar Corp in the future. Thanks Ed! read less

It came to our attention that there were leaks on the ceilings of the top floor apartments, and we called a number of contractors to come check out the situation. Ed fit us in for an emergency quote the next day. This was a rare find as most of the other contractors we called didn’t even bother getting back to us. After taking a look at our roof, Ed explained to us how serious the job was and how the damage came about. The firewall and the parapet wall were both in really bad shape and needed to be rebuilt. The firewall and parapet wall were both crooked and the bricks were loose. To stop the ceilings from leaking, we needed to have the roofing redone as well. Ed was very thorough with explaining how the repairs were going to be done and after comparing a few more bids, we decided that Edmar Corp was best suited to handle our repair needs. They were able to schedule a start date pretty quickly and were flexible about working on Saturday. The workers were very professional and took great caution about ensuring the safety of the surrounding buildings and set up tarps to prevent debris from getting around. They got the firewall and parapet wall up in a few days, and were even able to match the bricks of the parapet wall to the rest of the building. Ed called and checked in with us every couple days and let us know where they were in the process. Our condo association was very happy with the work and highly recommends Edmar. read less

Peter the project manager came out to our building to give an estimate, and answer all follow up questions before signing the detailed contract. Every person at Edmar responds to all calls, questions, and appointments quickly and are always on time. Once Peter walked us through the scope of work and came in with reasonable and fair pricing we signed with Edmar over four other companies we had gotten estimates from. When the work began, Edmar promptly got us the building permit, certificates of insurance and showed up on time every day. They replaced almost 500 bricks in our back stairwell, did extensive tuck pointing around the building, and major work on our chimney. The building is safer and in much better shape now! The work was done quickly, they always cleaned up after every work day, and were professional and polite. Any questions we had were answered immediately. They even came back to make sure we didn’t have any more concern areas, and did some touch ups in areas that had not been on the original scope of work. Edmar goes above and beyond to make sure their clients are happy, the work is done right, and that their pricing is fair. The first project was to rebrick part of a doorway that had been damaged by a forklift. His price was reasonable and the work was done properly. The third project was a difficult one, it required scaffolding and high up work that was quite difficult to get to. It required rebricking. Again his price was reasonable and the work was done properly. All work was completed quickly. I was pleased with the work that was completed. I had 4 other companies come to give me quotes on tuckpointing my house on all sides and they were the most competitive and in line with what I was looking for. My complaint is more with the communication aspect of things. Everything was good up until I sent the contract in. I had asked when they might be able to start when first sending the contract in and was told probably the next week. I heard nothing for the next week. I sent an email and asked again, being told they would let me know asap. I heard nothing for the next week and a half. I sent another email saying that if I could not find out when they would be able to come out, I would start looking for another contractor. I then heard back that it would likely be in 2-3 weeks. The next morning, people showed up outside my door. Fortunately, that ended up working out fine but there appears to be a lack of communication between people in the front office. I was called twice by people after the project was finished to find out how I wanted to pay my balance as well. So long story short, service good, communication needs some improvement. read less

I rarely write reviews unless I am really impressed. City inspectors came and identified issues with the tuck-pointing and window lintels so I did some calling around to get some estimates. Ed showed up right on time for the appointment which was much appreciated. Also I made a point of not saying anything about what the inspectors had said to see what he would see. Ed pointed our word for word what the inspectors had seen. He took the time to explain to me exactly why one lintel would need to be replace and not another. He also showed me where bricks would need to be replaced, and where not. Finally he showed me where the tuck-pointing would need to be completely done and where it could be touched up. Most importantly, my building is red brick, and need a special mixture strength, Ed was on point. The windows which are the most difficult part on the work were completed in two days, and a third day to finish the tuck-pointing. The guys work like a well-oiled machine, the work fast and the building looks brand new. I cannot express how happy I am with the experience and the completed work. Interior Spaces
As I promised in my previous post, we're going to look inside the space to show you what we've been up to.  You may have to look at the final plan in the previous post to orient yourself.
First of all, let's look at the Master Bedroom. We had to remove the existing roof, put a built-up wood bond beam, and install a new roof structure. It was a lot of extra money, but definitely  worth the extra height of the ceiling.
Tumblr media
I'll be putting wood T&G as a finished ceiling, but still deciding how I'd like to dress it up a bit; maybe some box beams or just a perimeter moulding.  The door behind my guys is to the Hall and the rest of the house.  On the opposite side of the room will be French doors to the rear courtyard.
Tumblr media
The doorway to the right is to the new walk-in closet.  As you can see in this pic, the walls are adobe, so cutting an opening is a tedious and careful process.  After marking the rough opening, we cut through any finish that might be on the wall (stucco or interior plaster).  After that is removed, we start in the center of the area and work our way out to the rough opening, cutting the adobe, to give it a clean, and less disturbed, finish.
Here's a shot from the exterior of the Master Bedroom, showing he porch (portal) at the rear of the house.
Tumblr media
I used 8x8 rough-sawn beams, a 6x6 rough-sawn column, and 4x6 beams and T&G for the ceiling.  I will be wrapping the top and bottom of the column with 1x material as a finish accent.  It'll be really cute!
From the Master Bedroom, the Hall ceiling will have plaster between beams:
Tumblr media
If you notice, the beams were bolted through to the blocking that was installed between the existing roof joists.  The entire house did not have any beam or log ceiling (we call them vigas in Santa Fe), so we are introducing both beams and vigas in most of the rooms.  The drop-beam to the left is the entry into the Dining and Kitchen area.  The door straight back is to the front bedroom, and the opening on the right is to the Bathroom.
Tumblr media
Notice the fine adzing work on the beam; it gives it that hand-hewn look. The vigas are also bolted through to blocking in the ceiling.  This area is the Kitchen/Dining.
Tumblr media
Here's another angle on the Kitchen area.  The opening to the back is to our new Mud Room, where we will also have a Pantry.  We installed a beautiful beam and T&G ceiling in there!
We are also starting to install our new Pella windows!
Tumblr media
I love the style, and I like using casement windows because they are the best sealing window, making for less air infiltration or escape.
Well, as you've seen, tons of work, but it's going well! Electrical, Plumbing and Heating are being installed, and soon we'll be able to start the finishes - that's when everything comes together!
Thanks for stopping by, and hope you join me again for my next post!

Beautiful Homes of Instagram: Modern Farmhouse Tour
How wonderful it is to start a brand new week with you here, on Home Bunch. Thank you so very much for your presence!
I am happy to be featuring Liz Hackett of @lizhackettinteriors‘ newly-built home on our “Beautiful Homes of Instagram” series. Liz’s home feels airy and stress free and, as the years go by, I think we should make of our home a place that brings us peace. I feel that when my house is clean, uncluttered, and organized, my mind is calmer and I can think clearer. This home is exactly like that; a place anyone would feel better, not only because you’re so close to nature, but also because the house itself feels uncomplicated and that, my friends, is the approach that we should be aiming for.
Read on to know all details and make sure to pin your favorite interior ideas!
Beautiful Homes of Instagram: Modern Farmhouse Tour
Hello! My name is Liz and I live with my husband and 3 kids in Asheville, NC in the Blue Ridge Mountains. We built our modern farmhouse one year ago on a quiet wooded lot. My husband is a local home builder and I work in interior design. We designed and built this house together and have created a place we are happy to call home.
Home Ideas
“Our goal for this house was to incorporate the modern farmhouse aesthetic with both classic and modern details.”
Exterior Paint Color
The exterior body and trim is Benjamin Moore Classic Gray.
Porch flooring is Benjamin Moore Amherst Gray.
Home-Sweet-Home
“I wanted our home to feel comfortable, liveable and inviting.”
Windows
Windows are Mira by Plygem and are black metal clad exterior and wood interior.
Front Door
What a brave guardian dog! 🙂 The front door paint color is “Benjamin Moore Black”.
Foyer
Every part of this 3500 square foot house gets used daily and there are no wasted spaces. We gave a lot of thought to making sure that function and style were both foremost in the design.
Wall Paint Color
Paint on main walls of house beside shiplap are “Benjamin Moore Classic Gray”.
Farmhouse-inspired
The front porch and the foyer features 100+ year-old barnwood shiplap from Kentucky.
The chevron barn door (similar here) is painted in “Benjamin Moore Chelsea Gray”.
Built-ins
Built-ins in front Hall are “Benjamin Moore HC 168 Chelsea Gray”.
Space
The house is 4 bedroom, master down, 3 1/2 baths plus a flex space between the first and second floor.
Kitchen
This is one of the most beautiful kitchens I have seen in a while. Beautiful white cabinets are complemented by real beams and shiplap walls.
Kitchen Lighting: Visual Comfort in bronze and brass – Other Great Pendants: here, here, here, here, here, here & here.
Sconces are Boston Sconce – similar here, here & here.
Kitchen stools are from RH – similar here – Others: here, here, here, here, here & here.
Kitchen Island Dimension: 9′ x 4′.
Countertop
Countertops are Carrara Honed Marble and backsplash is Shiplap, made from custom milled 7 1/4″ Poplar boards.
Cabinet Hardware: Colonial Bronze – similar Pulls & Knobs.
Open Shelves: Custom – similar here.
Cabinetry
Kitchen Cabinets are inset poplar Frosty White by Crystal Cabinets- one of their custom colors. We color matched all of our trim and shiplap to match the cabinets. I would say it is very similar to BM White Dove.
Faucet: Champagne Bronze Delta Trinsic faucet.
Sink: Kohler.
Beams
Kitchen has four 100+-year-old wood beams that were reclaimed from an old tobacco barn in Kentucky.
Hardwood Flooring
Wood floors throughout the main house are 4″ white oak with a stain of 2 parts Early American and 1 part Classic Gray custom mix. Done in a satin water-based finish.
Beautiful Hardwood Flooring: here, here, here, here, here & here.
(Somebody got a little tired of being a guardian dog… 🙂 )
Dining Table
“The kitchen table was handmade by my husband the day before we had 16 people here for our first Thanksgiving in the house!”
Dining Room chandelier is from Restoration Hardware – similar here, here & here.
Rug: here – similar.

Fireplace
The fireplace features vertical wood planks and concrete hearth.
Great Room
The Great Room features cathedral ceilings with white beams and floor-to-ceiling shiplap.
Interior Design

New Century Modern Home Design
Garrison Hullinger Interior Design (previously featured here) recently completed this beautiful home and I am honored to be sharing their incredible work here on Home Bunch. Please keep reading to know all details shared by this talented interior designer:
“We met the clients as they toured a Street of Dreams project we had designed. They had found a 9 acre parcel of land to build their dream home on. They had started working with a home designer but they didn’t feel like the floor plan was feeling like the family home they had dreamed of at the beginning of the process. We worked along side the home designer and clients to reconfigure spaces and also reduce the overall footprint of the home that just felt too big. The home ended up being 7,500 sq ft.”

Black and White Modern Farmhouse
This large-scale renovation and addition transformed the modest home into a larger modern farmhouse with a classic black and white palette. The interior has been completed with all new finishes, custom cabinetry, and reclaimed barnwood accents throughout the first floor & second floor.
Edward Deegan Architects (previously featured here & here) worked closely on the project with this client. The clients weren’t afraid to use bold wallpaper or a funky light fixture. The interior designer repurposed many of their existing furniture pieces and accessories and the client’s eclectic taste helped bring color and life to the overall palette. Building and remodeling a home takes trust and believing in the team you’ve hired to create something you will love.
Make sure to pin your favorite modern farmhouse interior design ideas and have a great time, my friends!
