COVID-19 and Higher Education
During a time in which our nation and world is being impacted by one virus, it is clear that everyone is struggling to find ways in which to adjust to these changes. As of yesterday, #SyracuseUniversity has moved all classes to online through the end of the month due to the #Coronavirus. Although some students are seeing this as a #BonusSpringBreak, #accessibility pops out as an issue. For some students, leaving campus may mean no internet, computer, email, or class access, leaving them in the dark for their class work, as well as the date in which classes will resume. Additionally, by moving all classes to online forums, the world is truly pushing the envelope on different servers such as #BlackBoard and #Zoom as well as the internet in general. If we were to all work and educate from home on a #lockdown, do we have the ability to #BreakTheInternet?

Thinking a lot today about public spaces within college campuses and how they impact students. Not only do restrooms impact trans students due to a lack of gender neutral restrooms, but also how these restrooms appear. I remember in my undergrad, there were restrooms I would avoid, due to their quality. Whether it was a missing door or constant destruction. At first I chalked it up to my institution being a state school, and a lack of funding. However, now that I am on a huge campus with money I cannot even fathom, I am disappointed to have waited for a bathroom to finish the cleaning process only to find sticky floors and no soap. This is not my first bad experience with this particular bathroom, and unfortunately, I know it will not be my last. Is this nit picky, or is this an issue across the nation on college campuses?

After reading Ch5 of this text, I’ve learned more about my program and why our professors ask us to participate. My biggest takeaway was the idea that since we come from such different backgrounds, we are vital in the socialization of each other.
