Weekend plans = Spending time with these two beautiful machines 🤖 I only started my semi-modular/ modular synth journey a few months ago. I’ve always been a workstation type synth person with the fuller keyboards and polyphonic pad synth features. Lol. But I’m so happy I invested in getting these synths. It’s opened me up to whole new experiences. They bring me so much joy. And it’s really turned into something so relaxing to me to just sit down a tinker away at finding cool new sounds and beats - even if I’m not the greatest at it yet. Lol. Today's project resulted in this song and visualizer. I wanted to create a peaceful yet powerful track that plays with soundwaves and stagnate sounds that rise and bloom toward a build that feels hopeful and empowering. i finally recorded my first “live” modular synth track - the one i’ve been banging on about having had patched up for so long now that it was starting to become an issue, and block me from working on other things… the heat finally died down long enough for me to get in the fancy shed and do it. video is up already, as mentioned. audio, after i’ve applied a bit of light compression just to normalise the volume with the other two tracks finished so far, will be up on Bandcamp soon, as part of the Memento Potato work-in-progress album. and, in keeping with the Memento Potato ethos, i’ll be recording and/or writing something about what i learned along the way, before finally ripping out all the wires and moving on. (strictly it’s not a “DAWless jam” - there was a DAW on percussion duties & some light background pads - but the DAW *was* running from the same clock as everything else, and I *was* live-controlling its pattern changes, not just letting it run end to end. i don’t have a drum machine, sue me)

It’s 2006, you lucked out and the nearest game store had exactly one brand new Nintendo wii, the “revolution” in motion controls. It was in a sleek gray box. The discs entered the small white console, thru a calmly pulsing blue LED ringed media slot.

Alas, it cost considerably more than you anticipated. There is not enough money in your account and you could not purchase it.

Your wealthy neighbor grabbed it right from your hands and bought it. It’s ok, you can still experience it.

The initial setup is easy, composite video yellow, left audio white, right audio red, power, a strange black bar with infrared LEDs on each side, and batteries in the wiimote. Let’s go.

With a quick press, the power indicator turns from red to green. A quick pulse of blue from the media slot and a chirp from the device displays a warning on the CRT television.
