I still hate how washed Sylvain is in Hopes. It's clear that the writers of Hopes tried to listen to fandom criticism and wishes when creating these alternate universe characters, but straight up removing what made Sylvain a FUN character?

I will never say that Sylvain's attitude was right, because at the end of the day, he's just an asshole. His entire possibility of an arc was stripped away in Hopes, just sped to the end without any thought to it and it's played off a a joke

War changes people, he did need to mature pretty quickly, but we see absolutely nothing leftover from how he was before the war broke out. He still is the Gautier heir, the ones girls chase after because they want to use him for his blood. The outside world still sees him as the same man because they have no reason to think otherwise, there's no tools known to Fodlan that will REMOVE a crest from someone

But we never see those girls chasing after him, we never get to see his character arc. We don't get to see him struggling against old habits, we don't see him making that effort to be a better person. We just see him post-arc, and it's made into a joke

me when three hopes gives me so much lore on sylvain :

the trio seeing his bruises when he was a kid and him lying by telling them that he got them from training, him growing up with a sreng's kid sent as a prisoner of war who left him as soon as he could, him telling that the other kids always tried to beat him up when he was a kid, him helping rodrigue do the paperwork when Dimitri was out in that shez&Dimitri support, him never putting himself first (miklan ; in their support Felix tells him that he is as important as him), him trying to create a weapon that everybody could use to defend themselves in that shez support, Dimitri/Felix/Shez/Yuri praising him and his intelligence, him willing to spend a lifetime looking for peace with sreng which leads to his father calling him naive the same world he used for Lambert once

Top left is post time skip Dimitri with his hair tied back with both eyes (the more I look, the more he looks like eren jaeger 😂). Top right is Dedue in hopes style. Bottom left is post time skip sylvain. Bottom right is hopes style Felix :)

There’s for sure many things to work on, such as perspective (sylvain’s eye) and head shaping (idk what happened to Felix, I suppose it’s late 😭). If I coloured it, dedue’s beard would be more visible too. But, overall I like it pretty well and I look forward to getting better :)

Someday in like 10 years when nobody thinks of this game anymore, I'll be great at art and post a bunch of fe art lmao!

I'm hopefully gonna be starting on Monica tomorrow, but I don't think I'm going to get too far because I have to cook a bunch for grandma. Fingers crossed!
