✨Living my life like it’s GOLDEN✨
Happy 2nd anniversary SS Morty! Without getting too sappy, he debuted at a sudden rough patch of my life and I couldn’t be happier with him around 🥹. My boy truly saw his dream finally come true and he’ll forever be my favorite unit in the game 💛. Also reminder that Morty was the first Johto character to get a Sygna Suit, main character status 😤.
Also had to draw a magical girl parody because how else did he get his suit on while he was on top of that mountain lol.

Sync Pair Retrospective - Sygna Suit Morty
About a year ago now, DeNA surprised all of us with a sudden pivot into caring about Golden Week.  I sure didn't expect it.  And I don't think anyone expected what we actually got out of it.  Morty, with a shiny Ho-oh.  I think this was only the second time we got a shiny form of something in the game, barring eggmons, so it was still a pretty fresh concept overall.  And with such an unexpected combination, holding the rank of both PokeFair and Weather Support, reception must have been incredible, right?
Maybe if you don't know shit about the Pokemon Masters fandom.  Supports are always downplayed at first.   Always and forever.  Morty was considered downright bad by some, because he's an awkward defensive support that buffs slowly, and didn't help with offense, which is the only thing that matters, you know?  It's why Aura Cynthia is actually super bad and no one should pull for her over Ash or Red.
Well, like every other time this cycle repeats, it took like two days for the tune to change drastically, as everyone who got him went "Oh wow, this dude's amazing."  Fun fact: I actually held off too.  I forget why, I think it was just low gem count or something, but I doubled back when the Johtrio went well and god what a relief to have pulled him.
Morty pretty immediately solidified himself as one of the best sync pairs in the game.  Like, for context, there were people legitimately arguing that he was better than SS Kris when she dropped.  They're wrong, but they weren't far off. Morty's bulk was nothing short of exceptional, with unbelievably strong defenses for something that didn't need to mega evolve, defense boosting, Potion, and passive healing every action under Sun.  He's one of those units that turns a team functionally immortal.  And despite complaints that he was bad at offense, he did supply crit rate and speed, which is a very nice set of skills to have for strikers.
The tradeoff was having poor performance on his Atk/Sp Atk boosting, getting effectively only +1 on first application of Sun.  He could get a second stack at 3/5 with the right node, but to be honest his grid is so loaded with other, better tools, that you kinda just let his allies be self-sufficient in that regard.
Speaking of grid though, good lord.   It's immaculate.  2/5 is what I've been running, and I legitimately don't think he needs much more.  Sunny Disposition, MPR on trainer move and Sun, Master Healer on Potion.  Sure there's MPR on Potion and the coveted Vigilance, but like.  He's so good, even at this level.
The thing is, I could talk a lot about what Morty's good at, but the bottom line is he was uncontested in his role.  No other support manually sets Sun.  His only competition in this role is base Lyra, whose buffing kit is exceptionally strong on offense, but she lacks the same defensive backbone and drops pretty constantly. If Lyra gets a grid expansion (which, to be clear, she does not need), then Morty might be in trouble.  But PokeFairs are also getting it, and they're getting two, so give it a bit and he'll be right back at the top.  His role as a Sun-setting support is just unquestioned, and supremely valuable.  His particular kit also assists basically everyone.  Blaine, Ethan, Hilda, and Serena need that crit rate, but can boost their offense.  Anni N gets to save a lot of turns boosting.  Later additions like SS May loved that one extra point of crit to cap offenses for her first sync a turn early, and SS Hilda literally needs for nothing but defense and speed.   Everyone was perfect, but few as thankful as SS Red.
SS Red vs. Leon was still somewhat of an ongoing discussion at the time.   Anni N was better than both, but was a Tech, so by Striker discussion, it mattered. SS Red won with SS Morty, because Morty's Sun compression freed up team compositions, and SS Red was offensively self-sufficient, while Leon needed more help.  Lucian was the immediate coup de grace.   Debuffing special defense of opponents is tremendous, when your roster is filled with options like SS Red, Serena, Blarcanine, Anni N, and Leon.  All the big names are special. Sure you double-dip the speed boosting, but since both are relatively slow, it just hasted full access to something like Silver's Inertia.
The other was the combination of SS Morty/SS Lyra.  Grass-types largely run on Sun as well, and Morty is the only option that permits both Sun and Grassy Terrain at the same time.  You want full power SS Erika or SC Sonia?   You're running Morty.  And in both scenarios, he's giving speed, which is the most critical aspect of their kit to bring.  Hysterically, even for options like Mallow, who definitely needs more of the Attack boosting, SS Lyra had him covered.  There were no flaws in this core.
But somehow this was not enough.  Because the universe would bestow another gift upon Morty as Johto's Chosen, in the form of a sync pair scout most reviled. Variety Scouts are a hated thing, but absolutely nothing is funnier than Eevee Lucas.
Remember how I said Morty solidified SS Red as better than Leon?  Yeah, not anymore.   Eevee Lucas bursts in with team special attack buffs, status immunity for the team, special defense debuffs like Lucian at 3/5, and the ability to set Sun every sync, which was all of them since Leon sure wasn't using it unlike Red, who needed to mega evolve.  In this one addition, Leon was back on top, with one of the most insane synergy teams I've ever seen.  Seriously, think about Morty for a second.   Vigilance and Sunny Disposition on grid, Status Immunity thanks to Lucas, and he's still got a lucky skill free.  Morty is the most invulnerable sync pair when it comes to shenanigans.  He is having none of it, and is constantly boosting both bulk and HP with like every action.
However that's not to say that Morty didn't suffer.  As a generalist, his application was defenses and crit. Yes, the speed buffs and healing too, but those were incidental against the backdrop of his core function as an immortal being.  And, well...Aura Cynthia.
When it comes to defensive play, you will never get a bigger stat wall than Aura Cynthia.  I mean.  We will.  Powercreep.  But at present, she's unrivaled.  If you're looking for a general option for survival, immediate max bulk, Double Potion MPR, recovery in multiple ways, access to Gauntlet checking gimmicks like Paralysis and Impervious, and can even buff crit rate, but then also throws in stacks of moves up next and gauge acceleration?  Yeah, outside of his specified niche, Cynthia just won.   Morty could not compete with how defensively unstoppable Cynthia is.   And so, Morty became hard locked into his niche as a Sun setting support, bearing the blessings of Fire and Grass, unopposed.
At this point, I would like to pull back the curtain, and express that I finished this on 4/24/23.  You know.  The day before datamine.  My thinking was man, Morty is in such a specific niche now that there's no way anything happens that actively challenges him.  WHOOPSIE DOODLES
Sygna Suit Acerola with the steel chair.  Having both Grassy Terrain and Sunny Day, Acerola aims to compress both SS Morty and SS Lyra into a single pair. The staggering thing is, she kinda did it.  Acerola offers immediate capped crit for the team, a buddy move that can cap attack for the team, and perhaps most significantly, stacks physical moves up next.  That last component is critical. Acerola supports every physical Fire and especially Grass striker, probably better than Morty himself. Because moves up next is ridiculous.  To make matters worse, because of the compression of this role, she can even bring SC Steven.  Who packs rebuff, SEUN, even more stacks of physical moves up, defense debuffs, attack debuffs for Mallow, and even Restrain effect for Selene, all at the same time, while also having a 3/5 grid node to add flinch.  The combo of SS Acerola and SC Steven is unparalleled for physical damage dealers broadly, let alone under the same field effects as Morty.
Even so, Morty still retains the advantage for specially offensive Fire and Grass types thanks to Eevee Lucas and SS Lyra.  And his sustain game is far, far superior to Acerola's, which has merit.  To say nothing of having MPR on Sunny Day, which Acerola lacks, causing potential problems in Gauntlet.  Morty met his match, but he's not out of a job because of it.  In spite of taking a few big hits from his competition, Morty's still flying high as one of the best supports in the entire game.

Overviews for Giacomo and Clavell!
Giacomo & Kingambit are a Dark-type Strike Sync Pair, with the Tech EX Role. Their Perfect Kowtow Cleave Buddy Move can attack all opponents and gets more powerful the more Giacomo & Kingambit's Sync Move ↑ Next effect is increased. It also attacks while ignoring the target's Passive Skills that would reduce its damage, Passive Skills that would protect the target against a critical hit, and the target's Enduring effect. One of their Passive Skills increases their Sync Move ↑ Next effect by a number of ranks equal to the number of Pokémon that have taken damage when an ally takes damage from an opponent, and their Spin You Up Good! Trainer Move can increase their Sync Move ↑ Next effect by two ranks.
Clavell & Quaquaval are a Water-type Sprint Sync Pair. Their EX Role is Field. Their Liquidation Dance Buddy Move can attack all opponents, gets powered up the more their Speed is raised, and its power is not lowered even if there are multiple targets. Using it removes all of their Speed increases, but they can raise their Speed by one stat rank by using their Aqua Step Move. Also, a Passive Skill of theirs doubles stat increases when their Pokémon raises an ally's stat with a move, so you can boost their Speed over and over and use their Buddy Move!
Special Monthly Event Happy Prize Box will begin on Oct1! In this event, you'll pull from the Prize Box using Happy Prize Box Coins that you can earn from the Log-in Bonus held during the event or from daily battles to earn rewards. The grand prize for Pool 6 of the Prize Box is a Fair-Exclusive Scout Ticket. You can use this ticket to team up with either Sygna Suit Wally & Gardevoir, Sygna Suit Morty & Ho-Oh, Elesa (Classic) & Emolga, Sygna Suit Cynthia & Kommo-o, Marnie & Morpeko, or Sygna Suit Red & Charizard from a Scout guaranteed!

Early to mid-October will see the return of the Alola Chapter Villain Event, as well as a Legendary Gauntlet, an Ultimate Battle addition, and a new Solo Event.
And the part that's going to go over oh sp great with the fanbase, especially after how unpopular this anniversary was: The update for late October will introduce a new strengthening method for some Sync Pairs. Once a Sync Pair has reached 5/5, you'll be able to upgrade them up to five additional levels. Up to the fourth of these five additional levels, there will be fixed boosts for each Role, such as stat increases and power-ups for Moves, Sync Moves, and Max Moves. The fifth level has one fixed Passive Skill for each Sync Pair.
This update is currently planned to be an enhancement for Fair-Exclusive Sync Pairs. It will be applied to new Fair-Exclusive Sync Pairs that debut from late October onward, as well as to all existing Fair-Exclusive Sync Pairs in three installments: in late October, late November, and late December.

A few of my million-dollar ideas for Pokémon Masters
Give Falkner a Sygna Suit or other alt outfit. He has three sync pairs already (Swellow, Pidgeot, and Noctowl), all of which feature his default HeartGold/SoulSilver outfit.
If I was going to give him an alt outfit, I’d pick Skarmory to be his sync partner. Shiny Staraptor could also work.
While we’re on the subject of giving Falkner an alt outfit, I think Janine and Morty should get outfits that complement Falkner’s. (Yes, I ship both of them with Falkner.)
For those alts, I think Janine would work well with shiny Scolipede, and Morty with a shiny Chandelure.
Make the Striaton Trio (Cilan, Chili, and Cress) playable! Obviously their sync partners would be the elemental monkeys.
Drayden should also be a playable character, with Drudiggon as his sync partner. (Iris already has Haxorus and Hydreigon). As of now, he’s not even in the game as an NPC.
Sygna Suit Looker and Boltund. (Thanks to @fallershipping ‘s art for this idea.)
Put Professor Juniper in the game! She’s my favorite professor. (Also, give her Minccino as her sync partner.)
Get the full roster of Gym Leaders for every region! Currently, the Gym Leaders who have not appeared in Masters are:
Wattson (Hoenn)
Byron (Sinnoh)
Cilan (Unova)
Chili (Unova)
Cress (Unova)
Drayden (Unova)
Milo (Galar)
Opal (Galar)
Katy (Paldea)
Brassius (Paldea)
Kofu (Paldea)
Ryme (Paldea)
Tulip (Paldea)

“I’m glad we’re on the same team Eusine 💜”
Another piece! Couldn’t decide between the previous composition and this one so have both 👻💕🎀. I love the above quote so much, there’s so much softness and love in Morty’s voice when he says it 🥹.

Morty: Do you know about the three Pokémon that lost their lives in the Ecruteak fire?
Morty: It's said that Ho-Oh granted new life to all three of them.
Morty: It's kind of amazing that a Ghost-type user like me would become partners with a Pokémon like that!

Okay look. Look at Morty and May and tell me what you’d drop for the 5/5. It’s not worth it, bro. It’s not even worth it. Move can drop Trip Up if you want to go Staggering, and I guess you can drop two sync damage tiles for Hunter’s Instinct but come on.
Also Grimsley. Sweet, stupid Grimsley. Aggravation 1. Unbelievable.

Note
It wouldn’t be a sync pair without a sync move. What would your character’s sync move be, and are there any special effects that it grants?
Maria & Furret: Old Hunter Double-Edge.
It’s a strike move. No special effects, just smacks the enemy real hard. There’s probably an option somewhere in the sync grid to make opponents flinch after they get hit.
Maria (Special Costume) & Ho-oh: Rejuvenation Sacred Fire.
Look, if they gave both Silver & Ho-oh and SS Morty & Ho-oh Sacred Fire as their sync move, it’s pretty reasonable to give Sacred Fire to Maria too lol. Silver’s is Power-Hungry Sacred Fire, whereas Morty’s is Rainbow-Hued Sacred Fire. Neither option covers the resurrection part of Ho-oh’s powers, probably because doing so would be a Lot for a mobile gacha game, but it’s free real estate where I’m concerned!
Anyway, I feel like this one applies gradual healing to your entire side, because reviving fainted mons would be utterly broken even by pokemas standards even if it’s thematically appropriate. Maybe there’s a sync grid expansion to apply enduring to your entire side, too…
Sygna Suit Maria & Gengar: Reminiscent Shadow Ball.
Settled on Gengar as opposed to Kingdra between the last post and this one, because while there are quite a few Gengar units, there is not in fact, to my knowledge, a SS Gengar character yet.
Ade, in true form, is a fucking menace with her entire moveset and her sync move isn’t an exception. I feel like it does extra damage if the opponent is afflicted with statuses or other conditions (which she can, of course, afflict with some setup herself) and buffs her if they aren’t (so she can be a menace more effectively, of course!)
And... honorable mention, maybe the trainer lodge alt...
Maria & Honchkrow: Nocturnal Night Slash.
Much like with her Furret, there aren't any immediate special effects, only smacking the enemy real hard. I could see some sync grid stuff heightening the crit rate though.
...Damn I haven't touched this game in months. I still have Thoughts about this game apparently. And quite a lot of them.

Best girl Malva is currently only available as an NPC 😭
But Kalos Villain Arc on the way, only a new Sygna Suit for Diantha tho (She gets Shiny Diancie. I take it maybe we only get the first part this month, with us getting the second part and more Sygnas next month? Since we never had just one character getting a new outfit, and Sycamore apparently isn't getting his grid expansion. Also, confirmed, Diantha gets to be relevant in the battle with Flare, finally! Do her justice.) Kinda surprised that they're jumping to Flare tho with Paulo and Tina being taken by Plasma in the latest story addition.
Dawn gets Sensu Oricorio and Lisia gets Galarian Rapidash. Unless they turn out to be really kickass pairs tho, I'll probably skip. My eyes are currently on NY Volkner from last year.
Shauna is Spotlight, the Furisode Girl is our NPC Pair, and Sycamore and Kukui get EXs. Kukui, Blaine (finally, I long since replaced him with Sygna Morty, but he used to be my Sunny Day setter), Marlon, and Marshall get grid expansion.
Emma is in the game data but is currently unavailable.
