Sydney and Laurelie are best friends searching for the contentment of oblivion. Failing that, they'd like to be adored. Laurelie, by their caustic boyfriend Trip, and Sydney by Laurelie. On a typical night partying in the woods, Sydney grows frustrated with their unrequited obsession for Laurelie, and asks for a wish to be granted by the curious cosmic creature Starman. Not only will Laurelie love Sydney, but Laurelie will be dependent on them -- will need to be saved by them. When the wish becomes deadly serious, Sydney and Trip will be forced to figure out how to save Laurelie for real, or risk losing the person most important to them both.
Mod opinion: I haven't heard of this graphic novel before, but it sounds really interesting and I'd like to get around to it at some point!

Prokaryote Season has a Super Cool illustration style and most of the words from protagonist Sydney's mouth literally could have come from my college diaries, so what's not to love. An incredible mirror to my most insane moments, it felt like being seen in a way that made me want to throw up or punch my past self in the face. Being so in love with someone who doesn't give a damn about you. Doing everything for that person but so much so that you're not really even doing it for them but for yourself. Because when you think about it you don't want them to be happy you want to be the one to make them happy and lord if everyone else would just start putting that person down maybe you'd get your chance. The terrible selfishness! The terrible longing! Thank god I figured everything out and became cool, just like Sydney did at the end of this, which I unfortunately did not really like. The immature voice of the author as it exists throughout this narrative is excellent at communicating immature feelings but I did not care for its attempts at uplifting advice/philosophy. I wouldn't let it ruin my fun though! Anyone out there who has felt their loneliness lobe is just a little too big, give this a read. You'll feel filleted like a fish (positive)
