Polyghouls Headcanons

Swiss is definitely the heart of the polycule and you can't tell me any different. He is the center point, the one who has a relationship with everybody, the one who brings them all in. He is literally shipped with almost all of the ghouls/ghoulette way more than any other. Like I see him commonly with Rain, Phantom, Sodo/Dewdrop, Aether, Aurora, Mountain... the list goes on but that's what I've got off the top of my head right now. (Just type Swiss into the relationship tag search on ao3 and you'll see what I mean).

Not to say the other ghouls aren't swapped around, but I feel like some of them have more defined pairings of who they're closest with. Swiss just gets along with everybody, and yeah that's some of my polyghouls headcanons

My ghoul lineup!! i’ve been meaning to do this for like two years but it’s done!!!

headcannons for the ghouls under the cut!

Ok so based on element

Quintessence- They have tiger like markings that darken with age and glow when they use their powers. They’re usually some sort of purple hue and have a medium amount of body fur and a medium sized tail. Their tail is stronger enough to grasp and hold objects but not strong enough to support their bodies. They have shorter and rounder ears.

Fire- fire ghouls are usually red hued, they usually have black marks that resemble volcanic rock scattered across their bodies. Dewdrop in particular has red lines resembling magma across his body resulting from his transformation. They have whip thin tails, which can really only loosely grasp objects, and long pointed ears. Fire ghouls have little to no fur bc of how hot they are, if they have any fur they look like those sphinx cats.

Water- water ghouls are usually some sort of blue hue, with bioluminescence patterns scattered across their bodies which glow in the dark. They have thick tails with fins and fins on their arms and webbed fingers to help them swim. They have seal like flippered feet which aid in swimming as well. They also have gills on their neck and chest and “webbed” ears. Their fur is short and feels like a seals.

Earth- earth ghouls are usually green or brown hued. Stronger earth ghouls can grow flowers from their hair and horns. Many times their horns, ears, and body patterns resemble those of forest creatures. Instead of paws, they have cloven hooves. They have the strongest tails, which can support their whole body weight (imagine like a possum). Their fur thickness changes with the season, being thinnest in the summer and thickest in the winter.

Air- air ghouls are usually a dusky blue/grey color. They have bright white freckles all across their bodies and their hair usually represents something cloudlike. They have the thickest fur out of any ghouls. They have short fluffy ears and thin tails like fire ghouls. They typically also have white hair. They can use the breeze to float and/or have wings that can fold into their backs and like to hang out in the rafters of the abbey or trees in the forest. They’re lighter than other ghouls bc of this feature

Multi- multi ghouls are kind of a wild card. They typically have a mixture of their elements typical traits, like quint markings or air freckles. Aurora, being an air and quint ghoulette, has both of these. Swiss, being a true multi ghoul, has most of these traits, but less noticeable than other ghouls of those elements.

copia who willingly plays pranks on the previous papas with cirrus and thinks its hysterical watch their reactions

copia who comes to aether when he's having a hard day for some quality time and cuddles

copia jamming with sunshine and pretending he knows how to use a tambourine (he doesn't)

Feral Ghouls HCs

(hunting season pt. 5)

Copia baby talks all of his ghouls when they're feral

If any of them come up to him (and doesn't look too aggressive) he squeals "my baby!!", or "oh! a lil ghoul!!", or "look at that lil creature!!"

He leaves out food for all of them every night, it's usually a selection of their favourite snacks and whatever was left over from dinner

Copia likes to eat his lunch outside as well

He usually ends up sharing it with Dew or Swiss

Dew in particular is very vocal when he's 'found' food and ends up attracting at least seven other ghouls

By the time Primo's or Secondo's ghouls have come to see what's going on, Copia's already dropped his lunch and has ran back inside

Occasionally, Copia will spot Terzo's ghouls

They're very rarely seen but will sprint over to Copia if they see him

Alpha is usually the only one to come over

He likes being around Dew, and since Dew is usually with Copia, he'll run over to Copia

He's a pretty big ghoul, certainly bigger than Aether, so having a giant, unglamoured, feral hell beast running full speed at him always scares the shit out of Copia

Sometimes, he gets circled by Terzo's ghouls if they haven't seen him in a while

They'll all pace round him and sniff as they decide whether to maul him or not

Copia is, by this point, screaming for Terzo to do something

His brother will lean out of his window, complain that he woke him up, and tell his ghouls to leave Copia alone

They usually all go scampering back into the woods

The ghoulettes are also very rarely spotted

Cumulus is very trusting of Copia when she's feral and likes to find him on her third or fourth day of the season to have her hair brushed and plaited to keep it tidy

She'll purr the whole time and Copia pulls her curls out of her face and ties them back neatly

By the time, she's usually fallen asleep in his lap

Copia doesn't dare move in case he wakes her and has been stuck for hours before

Once Lus lets him go, he has to go and get his lint roller and roll all the hair and fluff off of him (Lus sheds like mad when she's feral)

If Rain goes to Copia, he likes to greet him by shaking pond water onto him

Everyone knows that Copia was with Rain when he comes back inside soaking wet

Rain also likes to bring him fish he's caught and tries to get him to eat it

Copia will then pull the good old "look over there!" trick and throw the fish back into the pond while Rain isn't looking

Copia's been bitten by Rain a lot too and had tiny scars on his hands because of it

Rain never bites him out of malice, it's usually when Copia's trying to get some algae or fish scales out of Rain's hair

Rain thinks it's a game and will nip at Copia's hand when it goes past his mouth

To Rain, he's only biting softly, but he forgets he has serrated teeth which hook into flesh so they'll catch and tear Copia's hand when he bites

Copia's brothers and most of the siblings of sin criticise him for still visiting his ghouls during hunting season but he pays them no mind

He did try to keep away from them once, but they all managed to break into his room and destroy the place while he was out because he wasn't giving them any attention

Copia learned his lesson that day.

DEW CHASING DOWN CARS IN THE DEAD OF NIGHT

SWISS SHAPE-SHIFTING INTO DIFFERENT PEOPLE JUST TO LURE SOMEONE TO THEIR UN TIMELY DEMISE

CUMULUS' SIREN CALL BEING THE LAST THING SO MANY PEOPLE HEARD IN THEIR LAST MOMENTS WHILE IN THE WOODS

Phantom after seeing Copia in his bat wings for the first time: “is..is papa really a vampire?”

Swiss with a devious look in his eye: “oh yeah man! don’t you ever wonder what happens to the ghouls who disappear? and why papa never eats with us?”

Phantom: “well..i didn’t before but what happens?” -holding his tail nervously-

Swiss leaning in close: “if a ghoul is called to papa’s office it’s because he’s going to eat them..” -wiggles his fingers menacingly at Phantom-

Phantom: “n-no way that’s true..”

Copia peeking into the den: “Phantom, can i see you in my office for a minuet little ghoul?”

Phantom looking between Swiss and Copia before letting out a shrill scream and running off: “i’m too young to die!”

Copia narrowing his eyes at Swiss who is on the floor dying of laughter: “would you quit telling the new ghouls that i am going to eat them!”

Swiss: Mountain, tell Phantom about the birds and the bees Mountain: They're disappearing at an alarming rate

whenever the ghouls sneeze, their element pops off ever so slightly. rain sneezes, the faucet trickles. cumulus sniffles, some papers slide off the table. it’s not very troublesome, even with dew, the most he ever does is light a candle or singe a leaf on one of mountain’s plants. but swiss. swiss, much like his multi elemental ability, is a wildcard. he’s popped lightbulbs, thrown open locked doors, froze an entire pot of freshly brewed coffee completely solid. some caffeine loving ghouls are still holding a grudge over that one. and phantom, ever the instigator, finds this endlessly entertaining. if he’s bored, he’ll light a candle that he knows will get swiss sneezing. the rest of the ghouls have taken to banning anything labeled “rose scented” from the den.

ghouls have fur and toe beans

that means they probably clean the spaces in between their toes like cats do

ghouls groom themselves and each other to bond and for comfort

that means there will be hair balls

can you imagine you're a sibling sneaking through the ministry at night and hear the typical cat hacking sound only to see swiss on all fours on the ground, his body doing the 🦗🦟🦗🦟🦗 , dry heaving and hurling up a huge hair ball

after that he just scurries off and you're left in the dark hallway with a hairball the size of a golf ball

BIOLUMINESCENT GHOULS

Water Ghouls glowing as they swim like plankton, lines and dots appearing along their skin and are unique to each Ghoul.

Fire Ghouls’ eyes and veins glowing whenever they uses their powers, like magma cracking through rocks.

Earth Ghouls can sprout bioluminescent plants from their horns, fingertips and tail.

Quintessence Ghouls just naturally have a purple glow to their horns that gets stronger as they use their powers.

Air Ghouls can make their fingertips shine like sun rays peaking through the clouds.

Dew’s element change, except it wasn’t traumatic.

he goes into the ceremony and he transforms into this beautiful ball of fire, his eyes turning an orangey color, his gills seeping back into his skin and they leave little scars that look like tiger stripes, his horns fading to a black with the tips ever-so-slightly red, and it doesn’t hurt him.

it feels warm, and it finally feels right. he finds peace in the fire.

Random idea, all ghouls are intersex because gender is fluid in the pit. They choose their presentation.

That means Cirrus walks in looking more masculine than usual (she's a mascfem) and no ghoul or person in the know questions it.

Swiss spends a few weeks with rounder hips and a heavier bust because he simply felt like it.

Gender is really just a human construct made to put people into boxes and the ghouls don't care for it.
