your fingers ache, yet you’re determined to get the notes right. the others had already gone out, probably mooching around town whilst the tour bus was stopped for a break. bill was sat on the bed across from you, which you couldn’t tell if it belonged to georg or gustav as they kept swapping based on who got on the bus first. his dark eyes are staring, yet it doesn’t make your skin crawl nor make you uncomfortable. “do you think you need a break?” he asks, you hum. “no. i’ll get it.”

the notes aren’t complicated, yet they require faster hand movements to make sure it fits with the flow of the song. bill’s eyes flicker between your concentrated face and your hand, watching it move then restart when you couldn’t quite capture what you wanted. “such a perfectionist.” he muses, clearly teasing. “you say that like tom isn’t.” you shoot back, glancing up at him with a small smile on your lips. “he doesn’t neglect his basic needs because he can’t cant a riff right.” bill gets up, moving to lean on the counter beside you. you sigh. “it’s a complicated riff. this has to be good otherwise i’ll fuck up our next show..!” you grumble, relaxing a little as his fingers comb through your hair. “you’re putting too much pressure on yourself. your finger work is amazing.” bill tells you, hand moving down to brush against your cheek. you exhale slowly through your nose, ignoring the pain in your fingertips as you begin the riff again.

bill sits beside you on the bed, shoulder resting against yours. you have to adjust your bass to accommodate him, it puts a lot more strain on your wrist. “take a break, mein hübsches mädchen.” (my pretty girl) you sigh. “i can’t. not until this is right.” you respond. bill’s slender fingers wrap around the neck of your bass guitar, slowly pulling it away from you. you let him, slumping back. “i’m gonna fuck up our next show, i know it.” you pout. bill frowns. “you won’t. you’re an amazing player.” he leans in, gently kissing your lips. “you’re just saying that to make me feel better.” you smile a little. your boyfriend hums. “is it working?” he asks, standing up to put your bass away for you. “yeah…”

bill returns, climbing on top of you and hiding his face into your neck, his arms wrapping around your middle. “you’ll be fine. you’ve done this riff a lot before.” bill mumbles, lips brushing against your skin. “but i haven’t done it recently.” you frown, squeezing him closer. bill rolls his eyes, moving his head to steal a kiss. “you’ll be fine, meine maus. it’s just nerves.” (my mouse) he smiles, rolling to his side with you so the two of you could cuddle more comfortably. you huddle close to him, letting your hands rest against his back. footsteps moving up into the tour bus don’t bother either of you. “jesus- can you two not?” you can hear the eye roll in tom’s voice. “hau ab.” (get lost) bill responds, a smile on his face.

tom flops down onto his bunk above the two of you, rummaging through his backpack as he went out to get snacks for everyone. “where are the others?” you ask him, yet tom shrugs (even though you couldn’t see him). “i don’t know, they went off without me.” tom sighs, leaning over the edge as he offers the two of you some snacks. bill snatches them up, “aw, poor tommy.” he teases his twin who scoffs. “give me those back-“ he jokingly lunges for the snacks, which bill shields away. you can’t help but laugh, watching tom break into a cheeky smile as his sits up again. he continues getting some stuff out, eventually you hear his gameboy turn on. “tom, have you got jet set radio?” you ask him, listening as he checks his bag again. “uhh… yeah, i do.” he responds. “fuck yeah. bring it down here.” you part from bill who pouts at you. “fiiine. only if you share your snacks with me.” tom hops down from his bunk, joining the two of you.

you end up sandwiched between the twins playing jet set radio as the two of you argue about which pokémon starter was best. bill occasionally feeds you some snacks, much to tom’s fake disgust. “i think she’s gonna beat your score.” bill mutters, kissing your shoulder. “of course i am. jet set radio is my favourite game..!” you giggle. “i don’t mind.” tom shrugs, pushing some more chips into his mouth. “you should, she’ll destroy your ego.” bill teases, watching his twin roll his eyes. “i don’t really play jet set radio anymore, she can have it.” he responds. “thanks, tom.” you chirp, yet your eyes don’t leave the screen of his gameboy as you work away at the score. bill leans his head against yours, watching you easily beat his brother’s highest score. it made him feel rather proud.

“i’m glad you’re taking a break.” he mumbles. you hum softly. “you two better not be flirting.” tom teases, nudging your leg with his foot. “we’re not.” you assure him, smiling as bill’s hand rests on your thigh. “when are the other two gonna get back..?” bill sighs, leaning back against your pillows. “they’re probably getting dinner, it’s getting quite late.” you shrug, glancing up at the clock. “i hope they bring something good.” tom replies, yet his brother scoffs. “you’ve just ate three bags of chips!” he points out, yet tom shrugs. “i haven’t eaten all day!” he defends. the level completes and you hand the gameboy back to tom. “done. try and beat that.” you grin, watching his eyebrows raise in surprise. “i definitely won’t be able to beat that.” he laughs, showing bill who nods. “i told you she’d destroy your ego.”

I finally read the bionicle story bible and here's the most interesting things I noted from it (I might be forgetting a thing or two)

while the gba game and the cancelled pc game are brought up multiple times, mnog isn't, at least from what I can tell

nokama, nuju, kotu, hewkii, hafu, and jaller all have different names

the turaga were originally called the kahuna

the noble kanohi were called the mortal kanohi and the hau was one while the huna was a great kanohi (this is not a case of name change as the powers they each have are still the same as they are in the final version)

gali and kopaka are said to be twins, the same is also true for onua and pohatu

tahu and lewa are stated to be besties, while the main tension between the toa as a group comes from tahu and gali, rather than tahu and kopaka in the final story

the toa kaita's domains were swapped

the kanohi were considered masks of wisdom rather than of power

the toa's trials to get them were more intellectual and puzzle based

the turaga in general have different characterization than in the final story, some minor, some major

pohatu is described as "slow" and "sure footed" as opposed to the speedster we know

while not outright stated, the text implies that what will become ga koro was situated on an inland lake, rather than the coastal settlement it will become

likewise, onu koro is coastal and may or may not even be underground

rahi as a term does not seem to apply to all of the island's creatures, rather two specific guardian beasts under makuta, the rahi tori (who will become the muaka), and the rahi kahu (later just the kahu, an ally creature to the matoran)

the manas are considered even separate from that

the tarakava were originally conceived as "boxing gorillas" rather than semi-aquatic reptiles

makuta's final form is described as having three heads, a cobra, a tiger, and a hawk

And two big ones (at least for me)

takua is absolutely nowhere to be found in this document, not even a slight hint at their existence

mata nui awakening and being revealed to be a giant robot that they were all living on was originally only the first part of an even bigger plot twist, that being that Mata Nui was only one of six giant robots that had all crash landed on the planet, and that the other five were still out there, comatose in very different environments (obviously this was clearly meant to be a potential way to continue the story if it did well, as it's been known for some time that bionicle's original story was initially only meant to last for one year)

Overall it was a very intriguing read, interesting to see what changed and what remained the same

Because I read a lot of fics and am always on the prowl, so I felt like sharing a non exhaustive rec list under read more. Feel free to add recs on reblog if you want!

Savoir-Faire: To Know and To Do -  This is the one. If there is a fic I beg everyone to read it's this. multi-chapter but not that long PLEASE do it. MC of an alternate XY was cursed by rampaging Legendaries with immortality. 10 years later, jaded Marguerite Linden du Bois is finishing her paper on Pokémon World Sociology, taking a newbie trainer for the road. Read for Humanities Things, Ghost-Types, the apathetic weight of immortality, worldbuilding, the workings of Pokémon League, Research Assistant Darkray, Royalty and more. I am begging you to read it.

Ashes of the Past - Peggy Sue fic where Cyrus destroyed the world and Arceus decided the best way to deal with that was send Ash back to the start of his journey (after some Aura training). Saphroneth writes fights *amazingly*, specially around Orange Island, where he took a break and came back with a glow-up. Fic is dead now, but consider reading, if nothing else, the Suicune or the Tobias Fight.

A professor and student + The 48 - I have this unproved feeling there is an overkill amount of “Ash is traumatized after Kalos" but this is The one about it. Kukui takes care of Ash in Alola and helping the boy set some boundaries and stuff. This and the wider “The 48” series are amazing Ash, and you can find great longer fics and one-shots alike here. Adults but not grown-ups (Alola Supporting Cast one-shots) and Left Behind (Ash and a Future Ash end up swapping time places during XY while brock is visiting) are real stand-outs. 

You Thought - Aliens invaded and took over the Pokémon World, but actual Pokémons still give them trouble. The premise may seem weird, but it is a means for amazing descriptions of how even the common Meowth could be terrifying and disruptive for an outside-context watcher.

A home can be found - Lillie during and after OG SM, finding a new family with Kukui, Bunet and her friends.

What the Sun Leaves Behind - Hau is inheriting Hala’s spot as kahuna after the latter died, and Gladion shows up to give him a pep talk when Hau runs off into the woods from nerves. It is tagged as Hau/Gladion but it is really a platonic deal.

A Little Bit of Maschiff - Juliana decides that getting a Maschiff of her own is the perfect thing for her friendship with Arven. She gets more than she bargained for, with Arven helping her tame the wretched beast.

The Clues - isshushipping. 5+1 One-Shot Fic of N being In Denial about Team Plasma during BW.

7. How long does their body swap last exactly?

8. How does Geeta think of the Alola kids and other Alola characters? And Steven too with the other Unova characters since he was being interrogated like a Plasma grunt? But yeah, in that anime they kinda switched bodies and such y'know, all bc of this guy iirc, but here it's not a guy, it's just me thinking it'd be funny lmfao

2] I think Sycamore would help, as would Sonia, seeing as these two are close w two of the champions, and bc now that Sycamore found out it's Leon he finally understands why Dia doesn't like him much lmfao (just a lil hc of mine really, that Dia and Leon don't like each other much)

4] Hala would be weirded out lmfaooo like that is a grown woman inside his grandson's body, and he doesn't even know where his grandson even is. I think he'd be low-key unnerved by Geeta, she just has that effect lmao, but she does try to be civil and explains to him that hey, she has contacted the other champions, and they'll find Hau soon enough (and then right after her phone rang w a message from the Indigo League and safe to say she finally get to answer Hala's question on where Hau is)

5] look look listen, Steven just tries to hold it in or he'd just, not look as he does his business, Leon and Dia on the other hand yeah they're like, struggling™ lmfao, they're too prideful to ask for help tho let's be real

6] Steven, pls, save that man, he's being interrogated like he's Zinzolin😭 the others are at least a bit chill, w the other leagues helping them out and even some friends and family, but Steven was far away from Hoenn, and he does not at all like the way Hilbert, Drayden, and Drayton are looking at him as if he just killed Iris in front of them lmfao

Leon, yeah, he sees the side eyes Sycamore gives him, and the side eyes Malva gives him, and the side eyes Siebold gives him, and he also thanks Arceus that Drasna and Wikstrom are helpful, they decided to not tell the rest of the league just yet, as rumours spread like wildfire in Kalos, and they don't wanna make this a big issue as they're trying to resolve it w the other champions. He made a joke that maybe Malva would report this, the side eye that Malva, Siebold, and Sycamore gave him almost asphyxiated him w how thick the tension was lmfaoooo

Geeta, honestly after finding out where Hau is, and which champion is in control of her body, well, she's now just waiting for further instructions from the others. Hala is still vibing, he's there saying that maybe Hau should come back home here, but Geeta said that that won't be ideal w their current predicament, and told him that hey, she can play Hau well right? No one would suspect anything (she's awful lmfao, everyone figured out real quick but just played along)

Dia, was,, well, tired™, look, the only thing she's looking forward to everyday is the fact that she can come home to have dinner w family. While it's not her family, she's there just imagining that Leon's mom and Hop are Drasna and Sycamore. She absolutely hated doing Leon's pose tho, and there was on time a crowd wanted her to do it and ofc she did bc in their eyes she's the undefeated Leon (and God she scoffs at that), and when she does it she's dying of cringe and prays the earth swallows her whole. Sonia notices everytime and can't help but snicker, for a seasoned actress like Diantha, she's always so close to breaking character when doing that pose

Iris loves the feeling of being tall tho real, Geeta is one of the taller champions along w Leon, Lance, Cynthia, and Wallace, and while Iris is getting taller as she's growing, but damn, she loves Geeta's height lmfao. Penny looks up to her as she tells her what she has to do to make it seem natural she's like Geeta, but Iris is so distracted by the way she sees a lot of things through Geeta's eyes w this height hahah

It's a crime how long it took me to find a ship name. It wasn't on any list and I just found it browsing through tags. Even tho I ship moonlily more, I shipped this first because of those Train On trailers for the games. (Elio is Shohei and Hau is Hoku obvs)

It’s still weird to me that apparently, Elio and Selene’s USUM designs (known as Ray and Ailey)aren’t counted as their own characters, at least according to Masters! Like, one Trainer in Malie Garden was renamed between SM and USUM because they gave the girl her name for promotional material, and I get that it’s a nonissue in Japan because her name there is Honoka, but you can’t tell me Ailey wasn’t supposed to have that particular name, if not be her own thing entirely! And I get that Hau got a second Badge too, but he still got Rowlet, while the protagonists got their starters swapped! What am I to make of that, huh?!?

I went all the way back to Monster Haus Wyn (with some names swapped for their nulliverse counterparts) for you so naturally: TW: Mentions of Death

With a flick of his wrist and two fingers pinched on the wooden sign The Chosen Brew goes from 'closed' to 'open'. Wyn double checks that the lock is upright and then shuffles back behind the counter to wait.

It's raining outside, a steady flow of water sliding down the wide windows and turning the sidewalk outside into a smear. He can hear Emery moving around in the back, transferring sweet smelling cookies out of the oven for a sheet pan of coffee cake.

Wyn swipes a pen from the cup beside the cash register, needing to occupy his twitching fingers. He's only been awake for two hours but his head is twisting itself into knots. It's pathetic. There was so much he was supposed to be happy about. He should be in a better mood, should be molding his lips into the light smile he's finally perfected, but his eyes refuse to focus how he wants them.

His sister had applied to a college two towns over, close enough to visit with ease but far enough that living in a dorm would be best. After living in a bed and breakfast for nearly a year, a dorm seemed downright luxurious.

Emery was also moving house, now that things had gotten more serious with Isadora. Still in Asher's Glenn, of course, because The Chosen Brew would have to be pried from her cold, dead hands and one would have to get through Wyn and Lochlann first. She'd already applied for her favorite of the handful she and Isadora had toured, and all hands were preemptively on deck to help her pack.

Then there was Wyn.

Static. That's his issue. Time ticks ever onward and leaves him scrambling to catch up. He can't go to college like his sister, or even see about getting an apartment anywhere. Legally, Wyn doesn't exist, and he's never using Dimitri Winthrop on anything ever again.

He's long overstayed his welcome at The Bird's Nest, but there isn't really anywhere else to go. He couldn't exactly move into his sister's dorm. Chasing him from Oregon to New York was one thing, but following to her college was another. He could ask Ryouma, but his apartment above the library was fairly small, and Wyn wasn't sure he was ready for that step in their tentative relationship. His options were shaping up to be hiding out in the storeroom or moving into the dormant Monster House.

He's not going to ask Emery. She already feeds and pays him, he's not going to add giving him a place to stay to his never ending debt.

“Wyn.”

He lets out a yelp, the pen jolted from his hand as he jumps. Lochlann is standing on the other side of the counter, waiting, staring at him.

“Jesus fucking Christ, Lochie!” He clutches his chest, trying to force his soul back into place. “How long have you been standing there?!”

Lochlann shrugs. “A few minutes. You didn't notice.”

“No shit.” Wyn lets out another wheeze, trying to get his heart to resume normal human activities. As much as he loves Lochie, her arrival had reminded him of the final nail in his coffin: the impending failure of his body. Every time she says his name he feels his soul lurch, the unfortunate price for being friends with a dullahan while on the fast track to death. If he's lucky he's got ten years until the blood ritual really starts to tear him apart from the inside.

Just another one of the many ways the world is leaving him behind. Lovely.

Lochlann bends down and retrieves the pen he'd inadvertently thrown at her. “Is everything okay?”

The lie is almost trivial at this point. “Yeah, just tired. What can I get you?”

She scans the shelves of tea behind him. “I liked that lavender tea you gave me last week, could I get that?”

“Sure thing.” Wyn turns to fetch a mug and the tea she's requested. He doesn't get why Emery puts the tea so high up, even he has to stretch and he's much taller than her. She's going to need a step stool when he's...

Nevermind.

As if summoned by his thoughts, Emery steps out of the kitchen dual wielding trays of breakfast pastries. She gently hip checks Wyn out of the way as she passes and sets them down on the counter.

“Good morning, Lochie.” Emery twists to the side to look at Wyn, one hand braced against her hip. “And you, did you eat?” Wyn squints, trying to think, and Emery just rolls her eyes. She sets a danish on a plate and slides it towards him, ready for consumption once he's done serving Lochie.

He sneaks a few drops of lavender scented oil into her tea so the smell is stronger and then passes it over. “Here you go, one human-passing cup of tea for you.”

“Thank you.” Lochie reaches out, stiffly, and ruffles his hair, making him sputter in annoyance. Emery laughs as she slips past him to grab more pastries for the case, and Lochlann is already in her window seat by the time he's combed his hair from his face.

Sighing, Wyn turns to start making Emery a latte, shoving the danish between his teeth as he goes about the familiar motions. It was a new recipe morning, so he knows that she hasn't had the chance to drink anything other than her wake up cup of coffee. He's gotten the hang of her seasonal preferences, and Wyn won't lie and say he doesn't enjoy the pride in her voice when she compliments his work.

The routine takes his mind off the darker of his thoughts. Floral teas for Lochlann, flavored lattes for Emery, and black tea with ungodly amounts of honey for Briar. Little habits engraved on the fragile flesh of his heart. To love someone is to take care of them, and maybe that's the one good thing about being static.

It's not going to fix the twists and tangles in his mind, but it's a start. It's better than the Wyn that stumbled into this haunted town, even better than the Wyn that defended it. No matter where everyone else went, he would be here for as long as his body let him.

Wyn was notoriously stubborn after all.

When the PS2 Mod of the 2009 Higurashi Cry Ch. 8 Matsuribayashi pt. 94

I had strongly considered condensing this down into a singular part, but somewhere along the line I found I had just typed out too much stuff and editing it down resulted in it just reading like an incomprehensible mess.

I’ll try to keep the 2009 version of events more concise. At the very least I don’t intend to just rehash the same thoughts and statements from earlier in the playthrough or from the PS2 version of 2009. I wonder if anyone’s interested in the 2009 translation to play anyway?

Thinking about this some time after the fact I don’t think I gave the mod makers the credit they deserve for the PS2 Matsuribayashi mod. I’m sure it’s a gross oversimplification on my part to write off their efforts for chapters 1-7 as easy. But comparatively speaking it is a lot simpler of a mod for those chapters since the games are already made in full on the PS2. I don’t think it’s as simple as a find and replace with the script, but with Matsuribayashi they had to go through and remove the sprites for the characters from the original game and swap them with their PS2 counterparts from Minagoroshi. So, good job mod makers for the 2009-2010 Higurashi PS2 mod I acquired legitimately. Know that at least one person from fifteen years in the future applauds your efforts.

I might be reading too much into this, but I don’t understand what emotion you’re meant to take away from her pleased smile. I remarked earlier that this version of the translation felt a bit more venomous and spiteful in her views and thoughts about Irie. Earlier still I mentioned how I felt that it conveyed a sadness to what Irie was saying, but here? She just seems pleased about his reaction. I admit this is just my interpretation of it, but looking at this smile of hers I get the subtle impression that she’s somewhat admiring of his hands-off approach to pulling the plug on a terminal patient. It seems at odds with her earlier dismissal of Irie’s somewhat indecisive way of dealing with their research.

For all the talk about how there’s an unending sea of Fragments there is most definitely a theoretical universe where Okonogi didn’t hesitate and he took that second shot and just put Akasaka and Ooishi down in 1978. Just another of the things that shows how fanfiction friendly Higurashi really is I suppose. With this notion in mind I just want to say: where’s my Higurashi Musou game?

Akasaka is kind of silly sometimes. “Everyone here is a rank amateur, except me, I’m GOATed.”

Watchdogs is a pretty good name for a covert military unit, but the Bloodhounds just sounds like an actual military unit. Maybe the Mountain Hounds should have been named the Watchdogs since they’re meant to be a more covert, subversion unit?

While the 07th-Mod, and the newer translations aren’t free of having odd phrasing at points during them there seems to be a lot more throughout the 2009 translations. But in this abnormal game of soccer I do want to point out the original translation for Rena’s “hau” noise, it used to be “haoo.” I do wonder if there was any notion towards keeping it as haoo, instead of hau given how similar that is to Hanyu’s “au aus?” But then again nearly every other version uses hau, or hauu so maybe they changed it to that for consistency sake? Also I don’t know if I brought it up at any point but the original 2009 translation translated Rika’s meeps to just her going mi.

Something I find funny across all versions of Matsuribayashi is this little section of Takano just shit-talking Tomitake. Double funny is that every version mentions that Tomitake has a bit of a gut, yet every single art has him as a very fit individual. The remake art style taking the cake because of how absolutely ripped they made him. Also, this is going to sound like an odd take, but the look on Takano’s face there just looks like one of Satoshi’s usual expression of mild bewilderment. Looking through my screenshots of the chapter when I played it on GOG I didn’t see any sprite work of hers where she has this look, so I guess this is another one that didn’t make the transition from the PS2 to PS3.

Based on every single piece of Matsuribayashi content that exists the people that believes in the journals and scrapbooks of Takano Hifumi seems to be a very limited number of people. One, I believe it’s limited to one. Everyone else who believed in it, or pretended to has been dead for quite some time.

If this theory holds, and it's one per type, then yeah, I fully expect Adaman and Irida to take their types as Grass and Ice. This does leave a huge question, as far as long-term whether they'll be willing to switch up types, because I think there's a good chance the answer is yes. That would allow Red to take Flying, otherwise unaccounted for, Leaf can take Poison instead of Grass, while Blue maintains water, and Geeta swaps to Rock. The one that sold me on this is actually Champion Iris. I know they call her Alt Iris now, but I think it's more likely they'd go with Hydreigon to account for Dark, since Haxorus would overlap with Lance's Dragonite.

Electric: I'd honestly like to say Hau. If we're considering Champions, this would be an interesting one for them to draw from.

Hey again. So while I was just searching through some posts regarding the Pokemon Champions in your blog, I happened to came across one where an anon had a headcanon regarding Lance and Wallace teaching Steven about menstrual cycles when Steven complains about Cynthia and I just had a thought. Just imagine Steven having period and period cramps when he was in Iris's body during the body swap AU. Like, I wanna see him get irritated and all cranky with the period that Steven unfortunately has to experience. And imagine him in Iris's body laying in the bed in pain with Hilda and Bianca trying to help him.

With the headcanon in mind, I want to hear your thoughts about this idea, what would be his reaction? How does he cope with it? Does he get a bit disturbed by the blood?

And just imagine him asking help from the Female champions on who to deal with the period and maybe even vent to his fellow champions during the swap on how much he hates it😂

And meanwhile, Hau, for some reason, I feel like he would be disturbed by Steven's statements regarding menstruation cycles to the point he would be concerned for Lillie and Selene🤣

But hey, I do know that they'd help Steven out, I think Wallace has some experience given he raised Lisia, so it's no problem for him, Leon also probs know abt it, as he grew up w Sonia, but damn he didn't know the cramps hurt like a mfer hahah
