#RomBkLove Day 19: Holiday. • I’m so unreasonably excited for Christmas! 😂 And for today’s prompt, I’m recommending 2 books I haven’t actually read, but I’m v excited to get into. • First is All Through The Night by Suzanne Brockmann. I’ll admit that I haven’t heard about her until her RWA Lifetime Achievement acceptance speech this yearmade waves on romancelandia. I was so moved and so inspired by her speech, and her fight for LGBTQ inclusion in American romance, that I had to get even one books of hers to read. And I kid you not, a few days after the RWA event, I found this book! Her first book where Jules, her gay FBI agent side character in previous books, finally takes centerstage! And not only is it set during Christmas time, I will also feature his wedding to Hollywood heartthrob Robin! I have been saving this for the holidays since July and it won’t be a surprise if I drop everything and start this as soon as December 1. 😂 • The second book could also be my #DiscoverMMRomance rec for tomorrow, Day20: Upcoming MM release. • I’ve read and thoroughly enjoyed Jack Harbon’s ‘Daddy’ on Wattpad a couple of years ago and I’m so happy bec he’s back at it again with a May-December love affair that’s kinky and has a gorgeous cover! Rainy day airport book report... I've long admired Suzanne Brockmann as a person, especially after her lifetime achievement award speech at the Romance Writers of America conference this year (Google it!). She used her platform to call out racism and homophobia, and to encourage her fellow writers to vote. So I'm a little embarrassed to say that Do or Die is the first book of hers I've read. If I wasn't swiping through pages eager to read about the SEAL-style rescue mission, I was equally excited to find out when our hero and heroine were going to rock their safehouse. It was a wild romp that got me through a couple of flights. And it was so refreshing to read a book that was actually inclusive. #RomBkLove Day 31: Change Makers⁣ •⁣ All Through The Night by Suzanne Brockmann⁣ •⁣ I'm interpreting this prompt v loosely again today with a book that depicted a gay couple getting married YEARS before gay marriage was legalized in the US. Now, I dont know the specifics, like, if this particular book had a hand in that ruling, directly or otherwise, but I know even the littlest effort to push inclusion and acceptance in the books that came out before, creates ripples of change in society and romancelandia, to eventually be the kong of inclusion and diversity we enjoy today. ⁣ •⁣ I got this book bec of Suzanne Brockmann’s award acceptance speech at last year’s RITA, and while this book is the only one from hers that I’ve read at this point (I’m still on the look out for the others with Jules to turn up for me) it’s so mindboggling to me that Jules x Robin was one of the first gay main couples in mainstream romance and that inclusivity and LGBTQIAP Romance was still v controversial in 2008 that she wasn’t allowed to talk about it in a Romance event. That she was able to talk about it 10 years after is a great improvement, I must say. ⁣ •⁣ So. Idk where I’m going with this anymore 😅 but agh, let me get into more gay romance that were published over 10 years ago? Here’s the first one for my Christmas Reads! 😅🎄(I’m so behind my hobbies, guys, please bear with me 🐻) • After Suzanne Brockmann’s inspiring acceptance speech at the RWA awards last year, I made it a point to check bookstores for one of her books, especially this title since it’s her first book centering a gay couple that has been the side pairing of her previous MF books. I had been super lucky to find this! 😊 • I liked the Christmastime setting and the way Suzanne wrote it in reflection to the then-current state of LGBT marriage in America. I can’t say I got all of it, though. I mean, the main couple was Jules and Robin, but the chemistry and sparks that I loved more was from the side couple, Will and Dolphina. And this is my first FBI/Military contemporary romance and apparently, it doesn’t work for me the way it does when it’s military UF romance. It isn’t entirely the book’s fault. This is book 12 in the Troubleshooters series and the Jules x Robin arc have been in at least 4 books prior so there’s no wonder their story here felt like an extended epilogue to me. And again, the gay-marriage theme and the well-written characterization of everyone were good enough for me not to DNF the book. It just can’t stand on it’s own, imo. • So now I’m on the lookout for the other JulesxRobin books. I’m on the fence if I want to follow the entire series, but I’m invested enough with this couple and their friends and hopefully, when I reread this another time (this Christmas, perhaps?)
