Jordon Bevan on the Importance of Setting Realistic Fitness Goals
Tumblr media
In the realm of fitness, where lofty goals and grand visions often steal the spotlight, it’s easy to get swept up in the enthusiasm of transformation. Jordon Bevan, a seasoned fitness coach with years of experience, believes that the true key to success lies not in aiming for the stars but in grounding your fitness journey with realistic, attainable goals.
The Allure of Big Dreams
We’ve all been there—standing in front of the mirror, motivated by a sudden burst of inspiration or a particularly engaging social media post. The desire to shed 20 pounds in a month or to run a marathon after a few weeks of training can be compelling. However, as Jordon points out, these ambitious targets often set us up for disappointment.
“Big dreams aren’t inherently bad,” Jordon Bevan explains. “But when they’re not paired with realistic expectations, they can lead to frustration, burnout, and even injury. The key is to break down those big dreams into smaller, manageable milestones.”
The Psychology Behind Realistic Goals
Jordon’s approach is rooted in understanding human psychology. He emphasizes that the human brain responds better to consistent, small wins than it does to sporadic, major victories. When we set realistic goals, we’re more likely to achieve them, which in turn boosts our confidence and motivation.
“Put your fitness journey into perspective as a series of stepping stones," Jordan recommends. “Each time you reach a stone, you gain the momentum to move to the next. If the stones are too far apart, it’s easy to lose your footing.”
By setting achievable goals, you create a positive feedback loop. The satisfaction of reaching a goal, no matter how small, triggers the release of dopamine, the brain’s “feel-good” hormone. This encourages you to keep pushing forward, making the journey more enjoyable and sustainable.
The Importance of Personalization
Jordon also stresses that fitness goals should be deeply personal. It's perfectly fine if one thing doesn't work for another. The key is to tailor your goals to your unique body, lifestyle, and preferences.
“Fitness isn’t one-size-fits-all,” Jordon notes. “Set goals that reflect where you are right now, not where someone else is. It’s about respecting your own journey and understanding that progress looks different for everyone.”
For instance, if you’re just starting out, a goal like walking for 30 minutes a day might be more realistic than committing to an hour-long workout session five times a week. As your fitness level improves, your goals can evolve accordingly.
Building a Support System
Another crucial aspect of setting realistic goals, according to Jordon, is having a strong support system. Whether it’s a workout buddy, a coach, or a community group, having people who encourage and hold you accountable can make a world of difference.
Jordon Bevan often works closely with his clients to not only set realistic goals but also to create a supportive environment that fosters growth. He believes that a balanced combination of self-discipline and external support is vital for long-term success.
The Power of Flexibility
Finally, Jordon emphasizes the importance of flexibility in goal-setting. Life is unpredictable, and rigid goals can sometimes lead to unnecessary stress. By being flexible, you allow yourself to adapt to life’s challenges without feeling like you’ve failed.
“It’s okay to adjust your goals as you go along,” Jordon advises. “Fitness is a lifelong journey, not a race. What matters is that you’re moving forward, even if the pace isn’t what you initially planned.”
Conclusion
Jordon Bevan’s philosophy on fitness is refreshingly grounded in reality. He understands that while it’s essential to have dreams, those dreams need to be anchored in achievable, personalized goals. By setting realistic targets, you set yourself up for success, creating a positive, sustainable path toward better health and well-being. As Jordon says, “It’s not about how fast you get there; it’s about making sure you keep going.”

Transforming My Life: The Power of Small Changes in Losing 75 Pounds and Embracing a Sustainable Lifestyle
Tumblr media
At 252 pounds, my life was a constant struggle. The lack of energy, coupled with the shame and embarrassment, became tangible burdens. Each day felt like a losing battle against food and the unforgiving mirror. I desperately sought a way out of the vicious cycle that seemed to hold me captive.
>>UNLOCK YOUR TRUE SELF Eat Less. Burn More. Look Amazing
The Breaking Point: A Decision to Change
Despite numerous attempts to shed weight, I continually found myself returning to the familiar territory of overindulgence. I vividly recall the days when a trip to Chipotle meant ordering three burrito bowls and consuming them over the next six hours, a destructive pattern propelling me toward a potential train wreck.
Then, one day, I made the pivotal decision to change the trajectory of my life. No longer was I willing to subject myself to restrictive diets that provided only temporary relief. This time, I resolved to focus on the power of small changes, starting with the bare minimum.
Caloric Consciousness: A Gradual Reduction
My journey began with a simple yet impactful step—measuring my daily caloric intake. Instead of implementing drastic alterations, I chose the path of moderation. By identifying my baseline caloric consumption, I gradually reduced it by 100 calories. The results were encouraging; the scale started to budge, offering a glimmer of hope.
>>UNLOCK YOUR TRUE SELF Eat Less. Burn More. Look Amazing
Undeterred, I continued this gradual approach. Another 100-calorie reduction in daily intake followed, accompanied by the same watchful eye on the scale. As the numbers continued to shift, I introduced 10-minute daily walks into my routine, a modest yet effective exercise. Soon after, a few reps of pushups and squats found their way into my daily regimen.
From Walks to Workouts: Incremental Progress
With time, I progressed to more structured exercise routines. Initially, it was 1-2 rounds at the gym, then expanded to four movements. The journey was marked by consistent, small adjustments that collectively yielded major progress. It wasn't about adopting extreme measures or revolutionary changes; rather, it was the cumulative impact of these small, sustainable modifications.
Simplicity as the Cornerstone: Lessons from the Weight Loss Journey
The lesson learned was invaluable. Throughout my weight loss journey, simplicity emerged as the cornerstone of success. By keeping things simple, I gained focus and control over my habits. It became evident that sustainable progress is born from incremental changes that withstand the test of time.
The Sustainability Dilemma: Slow and Steady vs. Quick Fixes
The question arises: Is it better to embark on a slow, sustainable approach or opt for a rapid weight loss strategy, attempting to maintain the achieved results afterward?
>>UNLOCK YOUR TRUE SELF Eat Less. Burn More. Look Amazing
In reflecting on my own experience, the answer leans heavily toward the former. The slow, sustainable approach allowed me to build habits that not only transformed my physique but also endured beyond the initial weight loss. Quick fixes may offer immediate results, but they often lack the foundation necessary for long-term success.
Staying Fit: The True Measure of Success
Rapid weight loss, while tempting, can lead to unsustainable practices and a higher likelihood of regaining lost pounds. It often involves extreme measures that are challenging to maintain over time. In contrast, a gradual approach provides the opportunity to forge lasting habits, making the journey toward fitness a lifelong commitment rather than a fleeting accomplishment.
Conclusion: Beyond the Numbers on the Scale
In conclusion, my transformative journey underscores the profound impact of small changes in achieving significant weight loss. The key is to embrace simplicity, focus on sustainable habits, and recognize that the journey to fitness is an ongoing process. While the allure of rapid results may be tempting, the enduring value of a slow, sustainable approach lies in its ability to pave the way for a healthier, more fulfilling life—one that extends far beyond the numbers on a scale.

At one point, the idea of building muscle on a plant-based diet was dismissed as a myth. However, recent studies have debunked this myth, showing that a plant-based diet can be just as effective in building muscle as an omnivorous diet. In fact, plant-based athletes such as Venus Williams, Patrik Baboumian, and Kendrick Farris have shown that a vegan diet can provide all the necessary nutrients for building muscle. Are you focusing on the process, or just the results?
It can be so easy to compare yourself and your journey to others. Trust me, I do it too!
It’s okay to have a goal, but it’s not okay to hyper focus on that end goal (numbers on the scale) and put less attention on the effort you’re putting in (proper form, pushing yourself).
Set small weekly or monthly goals for yourself, and work on achieving those one at a time.
Ultimately, focusing on the process keeps you motivated, builds sustainable habits, and reminds you that fitness is a journey, not just a destination!

So this is one of the most common and popular fitness myth, "Women who lift weights will develop large, bulky muscles".Women who exercise do not develop large, bulky muscles as men do. Many women report that weight lifting routines have helped develop their muscles in a way that enhances their body's shape. Large, bulky muscles are a function of the presence of male hormones. Women do not have enough of the male hormones that are necessary for the bulking process to take place. Women may have large muscular legs simply because they inherited that trait, but not because they develop them through a particular exercise regime.

Plogging is a combination of jogging with picking up litter (Swedish: plocka upp). It started as an organised activity in Sweden around 2016 and spread to other countries in 2018, following increased concern about plastic pollution. As a workout, it provides variation in body movements by adding bending, squatting and stretching to the main action of running, hiking, or walking.
