I was randomly thinking about dr maddiman getting therapy and somehow ended up developing a new oc?? His name is dimitri and he's a 40-something human doctor who accidentally got dragged into all this yokai nonsense and ends up becoming a specialist psychologist for the dead.

It relates in to my headcanon of Dr Nocturne getting a job at the springdale clinic while he's over here in japan looking for his dad. Disguising himself as a human and getting into all sorts of goofy situations! Dimitri is one of his coworkers who befriends him and acts sort of like a nice uncle to this poor troubled youth. "Hey i just happened to make too much pie, here have some!" Always fussing over this poor kid being all skin and bones. And then whoops accidentally found out the kid is an actual real skeleton and his dad is the fabled ghost haunting the old hospital! and also here's a whole parallel dimension of ghost monsters looking to get treated cos they heard how you helped those two. So this poor longsuffering dude now has to deal with all of this at once, but hey at least on the plus side he gets to help even more people and also make a slightly higher salary!

And then i just had the mental image of what if poor Suspicioni managed to get some therapy and anti anxiety medication and was able to reclaim his life. I knwo a lot of yokai are exaggerations of real life problems but sometimes when its an actual mental health problem it hits too hard to home. It must really suck to be some guy who died from truat issues who then becomes the spirit of trust issues and remains forever locked in his paranoia even in the afterlife! Thats gotta suck just as much as being a dad who spends too much time at work who dies and stays in work for fifty goddamn years until he cant even remember his own name. There's so many yokai who need a psychologist yo!! Dimitri please save them!! Also please probably become The Yokai Of Psychology or something. I mean auntie heart is the yokai of family love hug power so its not like all of them are bad luck stuff. There cpuld be a yokai of helping you heal from your deep backstory trauma!!! THIS STORY REALLY NEEDS HIM

Chapter 7: Dangers After Dark

Nate and Katie met up in Triangle Park later that night after doing their ‘sneaking out of the house to deal with Yo-kai related manners’ routine and summoned their bikes to make it easier and faster to get to Whatta Find, which was in Flower Road. After getting the Koma Brothers to settle on the handlebars and telling them to hold on tightly, not having enough room in her basket for both of them and not really wanting to waste time picking which one would go into the basket, they rode off towards Flower Road.

“Nyate? Have you considered getting a basket installed on your bike? Just so this kind of thing doesn’t happen again?”

“Truthfully, I’ve considered it, it’s just that baskets are traditionally for girl bikes and while I wouldn’t mind having a basket on my bike, I don’t know if Opal Bike Shop has bike baskets just laying around.”

“And that’s it? Nothing else?”

“If you think that I’m afraid of people judging me for having a basket on my bike, I’m not. Even if I’m not carrying a Yo-kai in there, it would be helpful to have a basket for other things.”

“At least it’ll be faster to bike to Flower Road then to walk there, assuming that Terror Time doesn’t start.”

“Don’t worry, Whisper. I have a plan for when we get the screwdriver. After we pick it up, we’ll go through the shortcut into the shopping area, go north, and take the walkway over the road back to Blossom Heights. Then it’s just a matter of rushing to Timer’s and More.”

“What if it activates while we’re heading to the school or heading back home, Nate?”

“Whisper, we have a Mirapo at Timer’s and More and inside the school and when we’re done investigating the school, we’ll take Mirapo back home with our parents none the wiser.”

“I hate to admit it, but you put a lot of thought into this plan.”

“Well, as long as nothing goes wrong with the plan, we’ll be okay.”

After putting their bikes back into the charms, they walked into Whatta Find and asked the shopkeeper for the screwdriver.

“Here. Tell him him to be more careful with his tools next time.”

Nate pocketed the screwdriver and they left the shop. They saw two adults blocking Nate’s intended pathway and while they could just ask them to move, they were afarid that they might run into them in the future while they were with their parents or something and they really wanted to keep the contact they have with adults at night to a minimum.

“Okay, we’ll just go the other way. We can still get to the walkway from here.”

They opened the gate and as they walked past it, they saw the fog rolling in.

“Oh, no…”

Terror Time had started as everything turned into a sadly familiar gray monochrome, they saw smaller Onis, which weren’t Leadoni and Suspicioni, starting to patrol the area, and they heard the familiar, spine-tingling voice of Gargaros.

“Gargaros! Garga, Garga!”

Despite his attitude with them back in the Yo-kai Realm, they knew that Terror Time was when he meant business. They did what they did the first time and kept hidden as they moved around looking for the door out of there. Thankfully, they saw the door and quickly rushed to it, not caring that the smaller Onis that alerted him and that he was hot on their trail.

“We’re almost there! We can make it!”

“Keep running!”

They opened the door and quickly jumped through just as Gargaros smacked down his spiked hammer.

“I hate doing that…why does it like to sneak up on you like that?”

The area was once again back to normal, but they were all out of breath and trying to recover from the shock.

“Let’s get to Timer’s and More and rest our legs for a few minutes. Sound good?”

No one was in the mood to argue, so they walked up the walkway to Blossom Heights and to Timer’s and More.

“And finished!”

Mr. Goodsight placed the Yo-kai Watches on the counter as Nate and Katie finished the last of the snacks Mr. Goodsight had left for them, knowing that they might be out of energy by the time they got back from picking up his screwdriver.

“Thanks, Mr. Goodsight. We appreciate it.”

They picked up their Yo-kai Watches and walked through Mirapo, ending up inside the school. They walked up to the stairs and Nate said,

“Okay, all we have to do is…wait…what’s that sound?”

They heard what sounded like a capsule machine and something rolling downstairs. They looked into the hallway to find an extremely large capsule heading towards them from down the stairs!

“Against the wall! Quickly!”

They barely dodged the capulse as it continued on it’s path until it eventually disappeared upon reaching a dead end.

“Okay, the plan is, we avoid getting caught by those things while we make our way to the roof since that’s where the giant skeleton is.”

After making sure that another capsule wasn’t heading down at that moment, they carefully walked up the stairs, keys in hand in case they had to go into a locked room. They noticed a surprising lack of Yo-kai roaming the halls, although when another giant capsule came by and they had to duck into another classrom to dodge it, they could see why.

These capsules must be pretty bad if the Yo-kai are hiding from them instead of roaming around.

After asking what happened if the capsule touched you, they explained that it trapped you and took you back outside of the school if it caught you on the first floor or to the floor below where you were captured if you were on the second and third floors and while it was harmless, it was very annoying. None of them had been able to get to the roof to tell the Yo-kai sending the capsules to knock it off and they did ask Mr. Barton to see what was going on, but he didn’t get anywhere with the giant skeleton, who was called Gutsy Bones.

If Mr. Barton couldn’t get through to him, we might have to battle Gutsy!

They quickly looked through their Yo-kai Medals and added Brushido, Tattletell, and Swelton to their party.

We might as well try out these new Yo-kai we befriended and have Tattletell with us to help heal our Yo-kai, just in case.

Considering that all of the Yo-kai trapped in the classrooms Nate and Katie had to duck into to avoid the capsules also felt the same way towards the capsules and Gutsy Bones, they helped Nate and Katie prepare for battle by having practice battles, although they weren’t quite sure how the actual battle with him would go.

They managed to reach the roof without getting caught by the giant capsules, but they still didn’t know what to expect from the actual battle.

“Ready, guys?”

They nodded as Nate opened the doors to the roof. They all walked onto the roof, surprised to see it empty.

“Odd…something’s supposed to be up here…”

Just then, a bunch of capsules rolled onto the roof, making everyone jump back. Unfortunately, Whisper was too close to a gold capsule and was captured right there.

“AHHHH! HELP ME! GET ME OUT!”

Whisper started banging on the capsule with his fists and hitting the capsule with his paper fan, but the capsule wouldn’t open, which made him more frantic. The other capsules had disappeared, so the others rushed over to get Whisper out, but he disappeared before they could reach him.

“Whisper?!”

They saw his capsule just floating in the sky as they heard his fearful screams and the faint tapping of him desperately trying to escape.

“Somebody help me!”

He then started screaming words in a language Nate and Katie didn’t recognize, but the Koma Brothers seemed to. They said it was an old Yo-kai language that was hundreds of years old and he was basically yelling the same things in that language as he was earlier. As for why they knew the language Whisper was speaking, they have to speak in the same language for special Yo-kai ceremonies. However, the Koma Brothers were cut off from another explantion when they heard a chilling word,

“Gutsyyyy….”

Everyone turned to see the giant skeleton causing the capsule trouble, Gutsy Bones holding Whisper’s capsule and looking at it before turning to the group still on the roof.

“I see something rare over there…”

Gutsy Bones made Whisper’s capsule disappear and the last thing they saw of him was his fear-filled expression.

“Whisper!”

A giant Crank-a-kai appeared out of nowhere as Gutsy summoned a crow to bring him a coin for him to use the Crank-a-kai. As Gutsy spun the knob, they quickly looked for any weak points Gutsy might have since Whisper wasn’t there to help them.

The bandages!

There was some strangely placed bandages on his ribcage that looked to be covering something. His weak point perhaps? They quickly had the front party, which contained Jibanyan and the Koma Brothers, attack that area while Gutsy Bones opened a red capsule, which unleashed a fire attack towards Jibanyan, who just took it in stride.

“Being a Fire Attribute has it’s advantages.”

Just then, Komajiro managed to get the bandage off of Gutsy Bones, revealing his heart. Now that his weak point was revealed, the back party was switched in for the front party so that they could have a chance at battle. Swelton suffered a little damage when Gutsy slammed his fist down on him, but it gave Brushido a chance to send an ice ball towards Gutsy’s heart while he was distracted and damage him. Gutsy summoned another crow with a coin, but he ended up getting a bomb instead, which blew up in his face, damaging him more. Tattletell healed the damage done to Swelton and Gutsy slammed his fist down on Tattletell, which brought her health down to about two-thirds. Gutsy got another coin and got a red capsule again, this time aiming it towards Brushido. This time, it took major effect as Brushido’s health went down drastically.

Gotta switch out!

As they were switching out the parties, the bandage reappeared on Gutsy’s ribcage, but they knew they were close to defeating him. They gave Brushido some food to heal with as Jibanyan unleashed his Soultimate Move, which was the final blow for Gutsy Bones as he fell to the ground.

After Gutsy’s defeat, Whisper’s capsule fell on the roof with a loud clunk.

“Owww….”

“Whisper? Are you okay?”

Whisper nodded and noticed he was still in the capsule.

“How do I get out of here?!”

Nate started pushing the capsule into the doorway and said,

“The capsule should open if we push it into a wall.”

“Don’t push it too hard!”

Nate pressed the capsule against the wall, which made it disappear and freed Whisper. Whisper hugged Nate and started crying, mumbling about the capsule and how it brought back bad memories.

“Let’s get out of here, guys. We investigated the school and we defeated Gutsy Bones. It’s time to head back home.”

They found Mirapo and seperately went through to avoid ending up in the wrong bedroom and after waking up Baku and Whapir to switch spots with them, they changed back into their pajamas and went to sleep for real.

Meanwhile, in another place and time…

He quickly flew for his life as he clutched the bag in his paws. The loud clacking of the Time Stones did nothing to help, but he didn’t care. He had to make sure that troublesome trio didn’t have too many chances to mess with the timeline.

If I don’t destroy these Time Stones, then they’ll win and the timeline will be ruined!

By the time he was done with this task, that trio may still have some Time Stones, but they would have to be careful with how they used them.

I just need to get far enough away in order for this to work!

“Wait…where’s my Miradox medal?!”

He managed to find an out-of-the-way spot to destroy the Time Stones, but he had a sneaking suspicion that something was off. He checked his cape and saw a hole in one of his pockets, specifically the pocket where he had been keeping Miradox’s medal.

“Where did it fall?! Where did I lose it?!”

He just sighed with defeat and annoyance as he hoped to Lord Enma that he didn’t lose it while fleeing from those three as he started breaking the Time Stones.

Hmm…if I can’t find that Miradox medal, I might have to resort to other measures to get them back here…maybe…

He picked up one of the Time Stones and placed in one of his other pockets that thankfully didn’t have a hole in it and went back to destorying the other Time Stones.

He wiped the sweat off his forehead as he finished burying the broken Time Stone pieces in different locations so that they couldn’t be fixed by that trio.

Finally! Now to look for Miradox’s medal. Hopefully it’s not too far.

As he was floating around, he noticed something odd about the shed near the house where his human friends lived. He floated over to the shed, which was glowing an eerie purple, which was rarely a good sign.

What’s going on over there?

He flew over to the shed to investigate, only to be shoved into the shed through the open door. Before he could see who had pushed him inside, the door slammed closed.

“Hey! What’s the big idea?!”

He heard a familiar cackling that he hoped to never hear in any time, whether it be in his own time or in the future. He quickly went into action and attempted to either phase through the door or break it down, only to be stopped by a slowly draining energy shield.

Dang it! They’re good, but not good enough! I still managed to destory most of their Time Stones and I still have one of their Time Stones on hand!

He looked around the shed for anything that he could use to open the door without draining his energy, but there was nothing in here but himself.

“Well, I’m going to be stuck in here for a while…”

He floated down to the ground and sighed with defeat.

I just hope someone can get me out of here…

Just then, he heard a knock on the door of the shed.

“Who’s there?”

“It’s Nyada. What happened here, Hovernyan?”

“I was trapped by that troublesome trio after I got rid of their Time Stones.”

“Wait a minute. I’ll try to get you out of here.”

“Master Nyada! There’s an energy draining shield on this place!”

He then heard something that sounded like a large stick hitting the door, and while it did open the door, the barrier was still there and the two cat Yo-kai were able to see each other. The older of the two placed his hands on his walking stick as he said,

“This is very troublesome. I can’t travel through time too much with those three on the loose, you’re trapped in here, and there’s no telling when and if the barriar will stop working. Even if we had Nathaniel and Kenny walk through to get you, there’s no promising that they can walk out with you.”

Hovernyan pulled out the Time Stone from his cape and said,

“At least they don’t have as many Time Stones anymore. If only I hadn’t lost Miradox’s Yo-kai Medal…”

Nyada pulled out a familiar Yo-kai Medal and said,

“I was going to return this to you since you dropped it after our meeting, but I don’t want to risk having Miradox stuck in there.”

Master Nyada pocketed Miradox’s Yo-kai Medal and said,

“You saved a Time Stone, correct? See if you can get it though the barrier. I have an idea.”

Hovernyan floated close to the doorway and placed the Time Stone down, pushing it as close as he could before Master Nyada used his walking stick to pull the Time Stone to him.

“Okay, let’s see if I remember how to do this correctly…”

Master Nyada shook one of his sleeves as a small hammer and chisel fell out of it. He picked up the two items and chiseled something into the back of the Time Stone before pushing it back through the doorway. Hovernyan picked up the Time Stone and saw a time and date chiseled into the back.

“If you do manage to get out of the barrier, this Time Stone will bring you back to the time and date on the back.”

Hovernyan just sadly nodded. Even if he were to use the Time Stone now, it would be a waste if he couldn’t escape.

“But how am I going to talk them into going to Harrisville if I’m trapped? The plan relied on me eventually talking to them in person and convincing them to come to Harrisville. I can’t do that if I’m trapped in here!”

“Hold on…I might have something that should help you.”

Master Nyada pulled out a small charm in the shape of the spirit symbol and pushed it through the barrier to Hovernyan.

“This charm can pick up on any unnatural auras coming from humans. All you have to do is send your spirit to the source of the aura and study the source to make sure that it’s them, but your spirit can only hang around for a few minutes. If it is them, you might have to make some alterations to your plan.”

Hovernyan rolled his eyes. He knew what Master Nyada meant. He would have to use a method he was really hoping to not have to use, but if his spirit couldn’t last long enough to tell them why he needed them to come to Harrisville in the first place…

“Alright. If this goes well, I’ll see you soon, Master Nyada.”

“As will I, Hovernyan.”

A look on its Goodreads page has informed me that it’s a very popular book to read in school. Somehow I was also the only one in my class who was too delicate for that book because even when I complained nobody else agreed with me XD
