The Sworn Partners for God's Sake

i am SOOOO ecstatic w/ how this came out! i decided to participate in @das-a-kirby-blog 's DTIYS since i needed some fun artistic challenge in my life. i will put all my thoughts below the cut because i need to yap but please look at this image for atleast 5 seconds since i spent like 25 hours on it <3

sketching this alone took some thought since i had to adjust the canvas multiple times to make sure everything fit properly. i've never drawn alot of these characters ngl, so i was a bit nervous going in so suddenly. i wanted to make all the past villians more, well, villainous looking so i just added some crazed expression and dynamic poses. i especially like how i did susie ngl. like shes giggling so wickedly i love. i gave kirby a more confused expression while bandee is in his usual worried state of mind. i also decided to make meta and dedede make sexual eye contact as lovers sworn partners. however... i decided to take dark crafter and yinyarn out back before telling them to close their eyes because, tbh, i really dont give a fuck about either of them. marx and magolor felt like much more fitting choices in the section of past kirby antagonist as i would consider them far more impactful (and fun to draw) than the ladder pair. also added blade knight cuz sword knight was there and he wasnt?? smh. oh and vul is smoking lmao.

the hardest thing in this entire piece was the line art. originally i did all my lines in black just because it's easier on the eyes when crafting all the pieces together before i layer a blue merge layer on top. i questioned whether or not to use the lineart as both eye-black and metal highlight/shadow but im incredibly happy with the result.

coloring became a tricky subject since my art utilizes very bright, vibrant colors with high chroma. i wanted to stay true to the og by only using the base colors but just... tweaking them a lil bit. i cant resist a good highlight in my art. when it came to nightmare and meta's cape, i am a longtime subscriber to the hc that meta is like his "son" in a way so i wanted to make a nod to that by making the gradient and star-design pattern of their cloaks the same.

to be honest, this was so much fun. but holy SHIT my back is on fire. shoutout to anyone who actually read this monstrosity of an artist's explanation, ur a real one. thank you guys so much for ur support and ill see yall eventually with another dumb kirby post <3.

Deltarune self inserts infodump time!!

Warnings: Age gap (adult x minor), one sided pseudo incest and yandere behaviors

Okay so----- my wife and I both like some characters from Deltarune (she likes Susie and I like Kris, Ralsei and Rouxls) and so far the lore for our self inserts is:

We're sisters and we move into Hometown after Kris first takes the soul out of their chest (my S/I being the embodiment of said soul) and we both start working at the school! I'm a history and art teacher and she's the school nurse

She patches up Susie whenever she does something dumb and ends up hurt and I help Alphys out with the workload!

After a while Kris notices that me and the soul have a little too much in common and begins to corner me to ask questions and try to know why I take over them from time to time

When they get closer to me they understand that I'm not going to cause any harm and genuinely just want to make their life better and more fun, so they begin to trust and communicate with me more

Kris eventually becomes better at communicating when they need some time to themselves and learns to remove the soul from their chest more gently, without hurting themselves or me

When my soul is in their chest I'm slightly disassociated, if I get too far from them I may pass out or just shut down entirely, so they make sure to drag me around whenever they can

Since the three of us are the only humans in town, all the other citizens don't find our relationships weird, because (in our headcanon) a monster's maturity comes at their first heat (around 13 - 15) so both Susie and Kris are already mature, by monster standards

Since only a fragment of our essence is put into the game, we're both immortal, which makes missions and fights in the Darkworld a lot easier! As humans in the Darkworld, I'm the traveller and she's the storyteller, I'm a mage and she's a paladin!

And for Ralsei and Rouxls:

My Darkworld self insert is a monster named Ecti, she's a baker on what used to be the kingdom of hearts, before the king of spades took everything over, and she sells healing items and potions that tweak the party's abilities (more magic, more defense, more attack, etc)

Rouxls likes her because she doesn't see him as a failure or as a joke, and always asks him for help when she needs extra ingredients or assistance with some errands

Ralsei likes her because she's kind and helpful, they've both done a lot to keep each other on their feet before the lighteners arrived, so he really appreciates her care for him

Ralsei and Rouxls have beef with each other because they're both crushing on the same monster, so they keep trying to one up one another to get her affections. Love letters, gifts, compliments, acts of service, a little bit of everything to get her full attention

Ecti is oblivious as fuck and doesn't understand that either of them are in love with her, it'll take them actually confessing for her to understand what's going on and find a way to settle things

There's also Noelle which is a very unique and fun case of selfshipping for me! I see her as my daughter, entirely familial and platonic, but she has a big fat crush on me that she fails to hide 99% of the time

She's a huge teacher's pet and tries to get my attention during class however she can, which usually makes her very helpful and responsive during lessons!

I started calling her angel because of how sweet and hardworking she is, and that just made her crush worse, now she wants to be around me and get that sweet validation and motherly affection all the time

She knows Kris likes me and she's terrified of the idea of hurting her friend's feelings, but her heart talks louder than her mind when it comes to situations like this

Unfortunately for her, Kris has more free will to act like themselves now, and if she doesn't step back they might just "get rid of the competition" before she gets too serious about her little crush

cape god - allie x

album review

being young has its ups and downs. on one hand, the real pressures of life have not presented themselves quite yet. you are expected to be simply enjoy living and being a kid before true the hardship (ironically put considering the subject matter of this album) and horrors of being a human step into the light, as they inevitably do. On the other, they are the most confusing years we navigate. Identity, emotions, puberty, what it takes to find and hold onto one’s own sense of self. This often easier said than done. We experiment, sex, drugs, rock and roll (fuck yea) and do what it takes for not only others to like who we present ourselves to be, but for us to like ourselves as well. speaking from experience, as well as the shared experiences of many, the ages of 16-25 are an entirely much too confusing whirl. the soul searching cuts deep, whether we are aware of it or not, for better or for worse. this is incredibly evident in the mystery-shrouded land of cape god. 

the second, full length studio album, cape god, from canadian songstress allie x (alexandra hughes) is a wildly original and both beautiful and terrifyingly all too real account of a mix of self-preservation AND self-exploration, that takes place within liminal space (named by allie as cape god). Released under twin music, hughes’ label that she holds most of her career under, this record is a 12 track account of the young human and fairly self-reflective experience(s). according to allie x, this is her most personal and proud body of work yet, and boy does it show. NOT to say this record is superior to her other releases (her debut ep collxtion I from 2015 is a pop masterpiece, sorry i am letting my stan show), but this is a standout work among hughes’ discography not only in the sense that she embraces a slightly new (for her, which is still debatable) and highly conceptualized sound of alternative dark-pop, but her ability to tell a story that doesn’t feel superficial or simply trying to appease the commercial world of top 40 radio, cookie cutter pop. it shows now her ability to come and go from cape god as necessary, being more comfortable with who she ism enough to release an entire work based on this confusing time-chunk in her life.

i’ve got to say, one of my favorite cuts from this record is the opening track, fresh laundry. produced by oscar görres and james ghaleb, allie sings of nostalgia and a sense of longing for a time that no longer exists via the scent of freshly cleaned laundry, over rhythmic and crow-calling synths. when this initially was released as the first promotional single for cape god, it took me a while to accept the sudden change in sound and aesthetic choice by allie towards a grungier and more alternative vision. but one day, it clicked. and i was hooked. it makes so much sense for her, looking back at her previous works, her post-ceding (not a word, now it is) ep titled super sunset is unrecognizable in a sense (still very good, check that one out too), and almost feels as though something was holding allie x back from who she wanted to be. and damn i am so happy shes finding her niche. some other great cuts from this record are the (probably pop-iest cut) sarah come home, love me wrong (queer kids unite), featuring my boy troye sivan, and the AMAZING susie save your love, featuring the very talented mitski. also super duper party people is a banger (that bass line are you kidding me??). the tail end of this record really flaunts the emotion of miss x, and she does not hold back, as is hard to do in cape god i could only imagine. In life of the party, almost as a compliment to super duper party people, allie recounts of using substances to be herself around people who unfortunately are not her real friends, and use and abuse the f out of her, but she cannot bring herself to mind, because this attention gives her a purpose and sense of life, regardless of whether she knows it is truly wrong to accept the way she is being treated. while this track isn’t my favorite sonically, it is important. the repetition of the chorus meant to burn into the listeners ear, emphasizing the important to allie of feeling accepted by these equally hurt people projecting their insecurities on this girl who is still finding herself. (allie, i hope you don’t vibe with those people anymore :/ ). In madame x, i am taking a shot in the dark when i say i ~believe~ it is about drugs, and the comfort they bring, NOT the madonna album of the same title (hehe, a gorgeous track nonetheless). 

i think we all have our own cape god, somewhere in our brains, and this record is an interesting look into how one individual (miss allie x) is still dealing with and tweaking the psyche we control a meat suit with, in the dreamscape liminal world we all possess (at least, I know i do). This record is very smart. is it commercial? not in the slightest. but it is beautiful and raw and for me, does exactly what music is suppose to do, be that vessel. allie once said in a promotional video for this album that these this is the music she could never quite find the words for, AND IM SO HAPPY SHE DID. personal biases aside as an admitted allie x fan of a hot ass second, this is a crazy original work that scares, delights, and intrigues me. she also released some SICK visuals for this era, check it the fuck out, you will not be disappointed.

@demonwrestler​ boy howdy do i have recs for you! took me a lil while to collect my brain, but here’s some of what i’d consider some of the best ones out there rn:

enhanced inquisitor sliders: get lost for hours, trying to get your character’s scars just right! seriously, the extra customization is great.

i also like this mod for improving makeup, tho it makes certain npcs look a bit wild (lord seeker lucius has got wings for DAYS in my game, lmao). also highly rec sos brows.

hair: where to start! updates in frosty have allowed enterprising modders to do some excellent work recreating sims hairstyles or creating their own. i tend to avoid the fancier looks for suspension of disbelief reasons, but one has to appreciate the skill and variety: hairstyle day, misc hairstyles for frosty, curls for frosty, dark’s curly hair conversions, and anto hairstyles for dai are all incredible work. skaramoosh’s work also still holds up, including sk hair pack and sk qunari mini hair pack. for a few other ones i like, i’d suggest tweaked bun, messy hairs, and the many works of koric. 

the main thing to keep in mind when modding hair (and most of these pages include a reminder of this in the description) is that you can only replace each vanilla hair with one mod hair at a time (eg, only one mod that replaces hair 052). they’ll always tell you which hairstyle they’re replacing, you’ve just got to keep track if you’re using multiple at once. also: any npc using the same hair as you will also be changed. 

complexions: you probably already grabbed these, but ascendia’s stuff is largely considered the gold standard for complexions. here are frosty ports for her stuff: [1] [2]. shepshy has a nice one here, if you like moles. you may also want to check out work by kittentails and ihuntalone (haven’t tried them myself, since i don’t think my desktop could handle 4k)

somewhat related: there’s a modpack for qunari under the name susi adaar, and it has a makeup file for them that allows for truly fantastic freckles. also, since i’m here and i am incredibly biased in favor of qunari and dwarves, i thought i’d share a few mods that cater to them, bc i have had to do a damn lot of digging thru hf/ef only stuff:

the carta cut

dwarven skyhold outfit retextures

dwarven finery

and finally custom body models bc give me my broad shoulders and wide dwarven hips back, you cowards

oh, and on that note, if you’d like a more character-specific look than the intro provides, you can try tirnoney’s immersive starting armors or invisible prologue outfit. and there are dozens and dozens of options for pjs and formal wear, so i’ll just drop these here:

dress: wedding dress replacer for frosty, sk’s mesh edit (works with all retexes!), the dress by jacknifelee, the dress but halloween this time, prestige couture, kittentails’ elf dresses and retexes

formal wear: exquisition for frosty, champagne and truffles, sk’s stuff for frosty, decorated formal wear

pjs: libelula (now including dwarves), brocade outfit (now including men), jammas of the kadan

the good news abt wedding dress edits are every texture works on every inquisitor. no worries abt “only for hf and ef,” unlike with pjs. just have to keep in mind you can only have one retex at a time also it really flattens the figure and the mismatch w skintones drives me nuts. or, if you’d like to just wear a vanilla orlesian dress, padme4000 has recently released orlesian dress for the inquisitor.

and, of course, i’d be remiss if i didn’t mention inquisitor wardrobes. i haven’t used it, bc it’s a bundle and i’m concerned abt conflicts, but it has a lot of fun options.

gameplay stuff: 

this playthru i’ve been using inquisitor from the start, which allows you to use all 3 class specializations from the beginning (in fact, if you’re a mage, your starting abilities become spirit blade and stonefist, which takes some adjusting to...). definitely op, and a lot of fun. i’ve been enjoying finally exploring rift mage so much i might make it my adaar’s canon spec.

jerrybullet has made all kinds of other ability tree mods that make things easier and/or more fun, like removing prerequisites. highly recommend checking out his stuff. 

spirit blade nerf revert: bc fuck balance.

i haven’t tried this one by soriyumi, but based on how much i’m enjoying this one of theirs, both are worth mentioning.

necromancy enhanced: haven’t tried it, but i suspect it’s relevant to your interests!

i also recommend going ahead and using someone else’s playthru to unlock the golden nug, bc fuck it. i want the blade of tidarion and i want it now, you know?and everything is easier in tier 4 gear, even if it’s made using tier 1 mats.

which, speaking of, i recommend upgrading a bunch of cool schematics to tier 4 and adding a useful crafting mat shop to redcliffe or even the crossroads. bc i’m all abt fashion and violence. 

oh, and this doesn’t really fit in any of my loose categories here, but: party at the winter palace. and sera mod. both by sapphim, both v good. and here is a bundle mod for getting modded content to show up in dlcs (esp useful in the black emporium, obv).

BATIM Inktober 28

The 28th was Quite a gal, so it’s Susie time again~

Dipping into the Reunion AU again.

In the beginning, Susie had gotten along with everyone. She’d been shy, sweet, desperate to make this new job work. She’d never done cartoons before and it was exciting. Joey had treated her like a star, had made her feel special. And Sammy…Oh, she’d fallen for Sammy the first time she’d seen him. Susie had been a small-town girl, moving to the big city to get her big break like so many others. Most of the men Susie had encountered in her town hadn’t been terribly well educated, although it wasn’t really their fault. Most couldn’t afford to go to college. But Sammy…Sammy was handsome, smart, charming. His father was a minister, so he came from a good family. Her parents would have loved him. He invited her to his house a few times for dinner, allowing her to meet his family. They’d been dating at the time, albeit rather tentatively. His father was gruff but kind, his mother was a lovely woman, and his sister absolutely idolized her.

“Your family is so wonderful,” Susie remarked as Sammy walked her home one night. “They’ve been so kind.”

“Well, they certainly enjoy having you around.” Sammy gave her a smile. Susie knew she could be selfish. She was the youngest of 8 children born to a poor family. She knew her family had loved her more than anything. But she’d pushed them away in pursuit of her own dreams. And now she was going to try and replace them. She did feel guilty. She’d go back to them eventually, she promised herself. Once she’d made it. Once she’d proven she could handle herself.

“Are you alright?” Sammy asked, noticing she’d gone quiet.

“I’m fine.” She forced herself to smile. “I’m just thinking.”

“About your family?” Sammy knew better than to ask about her family, but she knew he worried. For all the terror he instilled in the hearts of studio employees, he could be so kind to her. She just nodded slightly. That was the end of the conversation.

Alice was popular, which gave Susie the confidence she thought she needed. She’d been right! She could be a star! She’d been giddy, letting the success go to her head. She was a star! She started to drift away from Sammy, focusing on her career. He’d always understood that her work came first, although it still hurt a little. But he wanted her to be happy, so he let her do as she pleased. But Susie’s happiness wasn’t meant to last. Alice wasn’t as popular as Joey had been hoping, so he started tweaking things to try and raise the angel’s popularity. One of these changes was swapping Susie out for a younger voice actress. He hoped Allison’s more youthful voice would resonate with people more. He failed to inform Susie of this, however, which led to Susie walking in on Sammy giving Allison her lines.

“Allison? Why are you here?” Susie asked. “I have to do my lines right now.” Maybe she didn’t want to consider that Joey had replaced her, or maybe she was that naïve.

“Mr. Drew didn’t tell you?” Allison asked, glancing nervously at Sammy.

“For fuck’s sake, Joey,” Sammy muttered, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Figures the bastard would leave this to me.”

“Leave what to you?” Susie was quite sure she didn’t like where this was going. She didn’t like how nervous Allison was. The girl was naturally timid and soft-spoken, but she’d never been scared of Susie.

“Allison is going to be voicing Alice Angel from now on,” Sammy said, his expression softening as he stepped towards her.

“What?”

“Allison is-”

“N-No. I heard you the first time.” Susie forced herself to smile shakily. “But…Why? Have I not been doing a good enough job?”

“I don’t know.” Sammy tried to put a hand on Susie’s shoulders, but she brushed them off. “It was Joey’s decision, not mine.”

“I’m sorry, Miss Campbell.” Allison said quietly. Susie said nothing else, slapping away Sammy’s hands and storming out.

Immediately, Susie labeled Allison as “the enemy”. Allison was from a wealthy family. Allison had nothing to prove, no reason to fight or struggle. Allison wasn’t like her. Susie was angry and hurt, lashing out at everyone who tried to help her. She just wanted to be angry. She wanted to hurt others as she’d been hurt. She drove away the people she’d been close to, which only served to drive her deeper into despair. Even Sammy left. He just disappeared one day. This was Joey’s doing, but she didn’t know that. To her, it had seemed as though he’d run away. She could have apologized, could have found strength in Sammy’s family. Instead, she spread poisonous lies about their oldest son. She drove away everyone who could have helped her, opening the door for Joey to manipulate her. Joey himself was someone who also felt he had something to prove. Like Susie, he was desperate to get what he wanted. This didn’t excuse any of their behavior, though. Joey promised her she could have her role back. He promised her she could be Alice Angel. Susie knew she was selfish. She should have walked away when she had the chance. But she had to prove to her family she’d made the right decision by running away. She’d burned too many bridges to go back now. So, she said yes to Joey. And everyone suffered for it.
