Search issues: “Peter Lorre” isn’t always mentioned in online details of the shows he was on, and search doesn’t always work well even when he is! It helps if you know the name/sponsor of the radio show. In a few cases I haven’t verified if Lorre really appeared, such as with that first Arch Oboler or Amos and Andy. Boris Karloff is also sometimes mistaken for Peter Lorre. :/

End of Year Review
thank you my beloved @attempted--eloquence for the tag :)
What fandoms did you create for ?
only teen wolf works published, but my wips have some others
How many works did you make this year? Fics (posted on ao3 or tumblr or wherever), edits, gifsets, moodboards, playlists, fanart, vids, meta?
20 fics, probably a couple gifsets. did Not expect the number to be that high because it feels like I haven't been writing a lot recently, but hey! a pleasant surprise :)
Any stats you wanna tell us about?
managed to make it to 300k words this year :) which is SO weird to think about but !!!!! so glad I took the leap last year to start writing again, it's been a Blast
What inspired you this year? Any specific works or creators?
read a lot during quarantine: ocean vuong, susan sontag, anne carson, others. read shitty romance novels, watched comfort movies. met great people, made phenomenal friends, got into a relationship.
regarding specific creators!! love spiraling w/ my love @chcrrysprite and my favorite writing partner @attempted--eloquence, my girl @ttp5000, and the man who runs through full literary analysis with me and i love him for it @thecenturiestrickle. they're all completely unhinged and i love them with my whole heart
okay I wanted to do like an appreciation post at some point during the year but it just Sat there in my drafts, so we're gonna do it here. here are some works/creators that really inspired me! and recommendations, i guess, to anyone who needs them--
every time i read @eneiryu i'm in genuine and complete awe. they weave words together and worldbuild like i've never seen before. the expedition set out to chart the distance from me to you ruined my whole entire life but, like. in the best possible way.
every time i read @spikeface, i feel like i'm going feral. i read the boy who swallowed the earth last night and it felt like the world was coming apart at the seams and me along with it. no one writes scott like they do. would also Highly recommend the family of things because it makes me feel like i'm losing my mind in the best possible way.
anything by @thecenturiestrickle will make you think a lot about society and interpersonal relationships. everything he's written hurts a lot because he's mean but i like Gather Back All That Dawn Has Put Asunder for the ruminations on growth.
no one does introspection quite like @chcrrysprite. would recommend her entire bibliography, but if i had to pick one from this year, where the spirit meets the bones will make you cry like a baby
everything @attempted--eloquence writes is genuinely award worthy. i don't even know where to begin. staking claim to the mess you've made has inspired SO many of my theo thought tangents. so has Still waiting for the end of the world, leave a message when it comes. Handle With Care, obviously, is a fandom classic. and the 2 of us poured a Lot of love into in time of daffodils who know.
@honeyscapes's Inglorious Roommates is so, so good. i've been binging published romance novels in the past week and nothing has come CLOSE to the chemistry and relationship development they've managed.
Quintessentia is phenomenal with language and characterizations. everything i've read from them makes me feel well and truly breathless. would highly recommend my skin's smothering me, help me find a way to breathe.
Teen Wolves by nothoughts_headempty is written in script format and is the season 7 we deserved. genuinely 10/10, they should have replaced the scriptwriters.
been going by a non-name by dramaticgasp haunted me for days.
@hidesourcheeks legally owns scallisaac, i think. or at least they should. Better to Die on your Feet is a scallisaac hunger game au that I would take Any Day over either canon, because Oh My God. Who Are You, Really? is an allison pov and also the best allison-centric thing i've read in my entire life? canon WISHES it could have that much character exposition. and while i'm here, i might as well recommend On the Side of Caution, their isaac-centric piece. screaming and crying and throwing up because i have Never seen something that un-romanticizes beacon hills so beautifully
not yet a corpse but still, he rots by @yikeshereiam because [screams into the void] angsty theo introspection!! also i've never read a sentence by them that hasn't knocked the breath out of me
that's all i'll give for now. there are definitely some i'm missing. might fuck around and make a rec list
What are you most proud of?
i had so much going on in the spring and somehow still managed to write a Lot?? also did my first collab (daffodils) wrote my first thiayden fic (which i've been wanting to for a Long Time!), wrote my first non-tw fic (should be posted soon :) ) and experimented with a new writing style. i feel like my growth is visible from the beginning of the year to the end, and i'm so, incredibly happy about it. also, the college au?? it started out as a christmas gift last year and then Completely took on a life of it's own.
What’s a piece you didn’t expect to make? Why?
Daffodils w/ bee :) never expected to collab, but i am Inordinately pleased with the results. it was so, so fun to work together
What are you excited to work on next year?
super excited to finish a multichapter fic for once!! i've been working on yofoe again recently :) planning to finish it this year! i would like to finish at least one of the thiaydens i started, and hopefully some of the others. keep an eye out for a regency au :) and when I finish yofoe, there's a chimera pack fic that i've been wanting to write for literal MONTHS but i've been holding myself back because i knew i didn't have the time. well. now i do :) also. ratatouille thiam, because chef theo is my weakness.

Note
So I just reread dragon slippers which is my all time favorite series, and I'm looking for a new YA or 9-12 series recommendation. I also loved the selection, acomaf, and the grisha series if that helps :)
Ugh Dragon Slippers is TOP TIER! Forever fave
If you haven’t checked out the rest of Jessica Day George’s books you should definitely do that, and other similar young fantasy writers like Gail Carson Levine (Two Princesses of Bamarre is my life) and Shannon Hale (Princess Academy is always wonderful)! Assuming you’ve hit up their books, here’s some other younger fantasy you might like:
The Shamer Chronicles by Lene Kaaberbol — a series I also liked around the time I was rereading Dragon Slippers a million times, though a bit darker, I think
The Prince and the Dressmaker by Jen Wang — a graphic novel especially great if, like me, you love that Creel is a dressmaker! Bright, pastel, and whimsical, with gender nonconformity for kids!
If the Magic Fits by Susan Maupin Schmid — also has lots of dresses, plus mystery and magic! Just really cute, and I enjoy the sequels too
And here are some YA books along the lines of The Selection and the Grisha series:
The Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson — gotta say it wasn’t my favorite, but it roundhoused me in the face with a plot twist and you may enjoy it more
Reign of the Fallen by Sarah Glenn Marsh — bisexual necromancer!
The Wrath and the Dawn by Renée Ahdieh — a booklr classic favorite I’m sure you’d like if you haven’t read it yet
The Orphan Queen by Jodi Meadows — a Grisha-like fantasy, though perhaps a bit basic; I very much enjoy the double-identities though
Stronger Than a Bronze Dragon by Mary Fan — starts off with some Selection vibes, gets more badass and packs some plot twists
Rosemarked by Livia Blackburne — probably my favorite of these novels, but on the slower side; timely plague plotline
Sleepless, a graphic novel by Sara Vaughn — absolutely gorgeous, highly recommend if you’re open to graphic novels!
I read an arc of the upcoming book Cinderella Is Dead by Kalynn Bayron, and I think you may like that one too! Like The Selection if the main character decided to end the Selection once and for all. Keep an eye out for it in July!

Maria Popova, the remarkable mind behind “Brain Pickings” (brainpickings.org), engages with fascinating scientists, artists, and thinkers in her new book, Figuring, including notable women such as Rachel Carson, Margaret Fuller, and Emily Dickinson. As Popova considers the way lives intersect with other lives, and the way private relationships bear on public achievement, she reflects, “Lives are lived in parallel and perpendicular, fathomed nonlinearly, figured not in the straight graphs of ‘biography’ but in many-sided, many-splendored diagrams,” and asks the crucial question, “Does genius suffice for happiness, does distinction, does love?” The passage below gives a sample of her wide-open approach to Emily Dickinson, and is paired with a poem from the late Lucie Brock-Broido’s collection The Master Letters, both of which speak to the “master” relationship expressed in the mysterious letters Dickinson wrote beginning in her late twenties, which Popova sees as akin to (and possibly inspired by) Fuller’s famous letter to Beethoven. The passage also refers to “Susan”: Susan Gilbert, for whom Dickinson’s feelings were outside the “the era’s sole acceptable framework of love,” as  Popova writes in Figuring; Susan married Dickinson’s brother, Austin. The title of Brock-Broido’s poem is a phrase from a letter Dickinson wrote to Thomas Wentworth Higginson in 1863.
from Figuring
Around the onset of her self-elected seclusion, Dickinson began composing the three letters that would become the most transfixing focal point of her mystery, known as the “Master Letters”—missives penned between 1858 and 1862, discovered after her death as drafts, addressing some real or imagined “Master” and exploding with almost violent desire, the object of which—is it desire for love? for recognition? for artistic self-actualization?—is as enigmatic as the identity of Dickinson’s “Master,” as layered as the poet herself.
In the second Master Letter, Dickinson assumes the third person and writes of “a love so big it scares her, rushing among her small heart—pushing aside the blood and leaving her faint (all) and white in the gust’s arm.”
In the third Master Letter, she implores: What would you do with me if I came “in white”? Have you the little chest—to put the alive—in? I want to see you more—Sir—than all I wish for in this world—and the wish—altered a little—will be my only one.
Generations of scholars have treated the Master Letters as a cryptogram the elusive solution to which would unlock the mystery of Emily Dickinson. But hers is a mystery that grows only more impenetrable with each step of approach. All attempts to identify a concrete candidate as “Master” have so far failed, lacking logical consistency. Among the proposed candidates have been Samuel Bowles, her close friend and correspondent, whose Springfield Republican would print several of the eleven poems published in Dickinson’s lifetime; Charles Wadsworth, a charismatic minister Emily had met while accompanying her father on a trip to Philadelphia in her early twenties, whom Martha Dickinson Bianchi—Susan’s daughter and the poet’s early biographer—would go to great lengths to cast as Dickinson’s romantic interest, deliberately misdating letters and inventing events to substantiate the romantic fiction; and Otis Lord, the elderly judge with whom Dickinson did fall in love, but a decade after she composed the Master Letters. After her death, as speculation swirled about her personal life, Austin reportedly scoffed at such attempts to assign an identity to “Master” and insisted that his sister “had been several times in love, in her own way”—a recognition not only that her loves were multiple, but also that they deviated from the standard “way” in their nature or their intensity or both.
Beyond failing to reconcile the factual when and where of each theorized recipient with the timeline of Dickinson’s own life, the various Master theories have also failed to account for the emotional reality of her relationships and her temperament. This, after all, was a woman who at only nineteen confidently mocked her brother for saying that her philosophic meditations were incomprehensible and that she should write in simpler style: “I’ll be a little ninny—a little pussy catty, a little Red Riding Hood, I’ll wear a Bee in my Bonnet, and a Rose bud in my hair.” She didn’t hesitate to poke fun at his patriarchal condescension: “Permit me to tie your shoe, to run like a dog behind you. I can bark, see here! Bow wow!” She would grow out of her teenage sarcasm but would retain the willful defense of her sensibility, consistently refusing suggested simplifications of her poems with the same quiet confidence in her style of thought and expression. After her death, her longtime editor Thomas Wentworth Higginson would bow at the self-possession with which she had upheld her peculiar style and resisted his edits over the decades: “After all, when a thought takes one’s breath away, a lesson on grammar seems an impertinence.”
The Supernatural is Only the Natural, Disclosed
At your feet, I am a shoemaker’s apprentice, Toxic in a long day of fumes. I’m listening
To the fluorescent light come on In April, flinging a hot white scarf
Across a month mottled by the chemicals Of eastern standard time, in the spokes of wheels
Of hormones turning in an unseasoned sky. In a gospel According to Hunters, you name your bird
Without a gun. You sit & watch as one does in the woods, Contemplating prey, awefully. You have a heart
As large as a silver cleat, small thing. I should have liked to see you, before you became improbable.
In your woods, I would not name the flowers— They bother me, spicy & devout as they are, perennial & full
Of the pretense of sweetness & decline. You dazzle me.
In the wilderness, the blacksmiths & the cobblers leave Their machinery on all night, greased
By the nasty oils of midnight Till the custodian slips off the switch at dawn.
Should you, before this reaches you, experience Immortality, Who will inform me of the exchange?
I entreat you—Sir—in your next white wove Missive to call my name—correctly— just
This once. The continual misspelling Is a form of sorcery, it smacks
Of heresy. It would bereave— Your Gnome

“I Dreamed a Dream,” Broadway, 1992. Susan Dawn Carson as Fantine.
A lovely rendition by a Fantine with a rich, warm, emotional voice, somewhat in the Patti LuPone mold but no mere imitator in the least.

Your blog's *chef's kiss* and I wish to ask do you have any quotes or what comes to mind when it comes to love mingled with grief/pain? Like losing someone at the stinging cost of the other? Or looking at a completed wonderful thing but knowing the pain and blood it stands on to be that way? Or when you look at someone realizing you now share hearts whether youd like it or not, that no bond in both your lives will ever come close to what both of you have(1)
how the love stiches both of you up, how achingly tender & vulnerable & warming it is and almost crying looking at where it is, how it is, what it became and what it grew from. Would love to hear if you got any that pops to your mind❤(2)
you are so kind! thank you, angel ♡ here and here are posts that reflect love mingled w grief/pain and tender/sweet love. here are a few more quotes that sort of encompass both for me:
“Not a day passes that I do not see ourselves, you and me, as we were when we met first. Every day of my life I see that.”
James Joyce, Exiles: A Play In Three Acts
“We can never go back. I know that now. We can go forward. We can find the love our hearts long for, but not until we let go grief about the love we lost long ago, when we were little and had no voice to speak the heart’s longing. All the years of my life I thought I was searching for love I found, retrospectively, to be years where I was simply trying to recover what had been lost, to return to the first home, to get back the rapture of first love. I was not really ready to love or be loved in the present. I was still mourning — clinging to the broken heart of girlhood, to broken connections. When that mourning ceased I was able to love again. I awakened from my trance state and was stunned to find the world I was living in, the world of the present, was no longer a world open to love. And I noticed that all around me I heard testimony that lovelessness had become the order of the day. I feel our nation’s turning away from love as intensely as I felt love’s abandonment in my girlhood. Turning away we risk moving into a wilderness of spirit so intense we may never find our way home again. I write of love to bear witness both to the danger in this movement, and to call for a return to love. Redeemed and restored, love returns us to the promise of everlasting life. When we love we can let our hearts speak.”
Bell Hooks, All About Love
“My heart is full not of guilt, or shame, or remorse, but of grief… Everything has become too terribly mixed up.”
Boris Pasternak, in a letter to Leonid Pasternak, from Letters Summer 1926: Pasternak, Tsvetaeva, Rilke

Jamie Anderson // Art piece by Ikenaga Yasunari (x)
“But if it’s love, by God, what is this thing? If good, why then the bitter mortal sting?”
Petrarch, from the ‘Canzoniere’ (tr. Mark Musa)
“bittersweet, undefeated creature – against you there is no defence”
Sappho, from Poems and Fragments (tr. Josephine Palmer)
“And if I should pick out the good in you – each shard of broken light, like glass from the wreck of such beauty, and look at that – or one golden afternoon when you hovered above me in rapture, oh half god – how would I bear to lift my hands, how would I bear to close my eyes and let you fall, and love be damned?”

Marguerite Duras - India Song (1975)
“I am sad because I love you, because I love you so much, and because I am not a bee to buzz with you lightly. I am not a flower, not a tree, not a rain-hewn stone. I am not a storm or a cresting wave, not a thorn or a vine. I am not the sun stinging the water, not the moon on the snow. I am not a star in the dark. I am not the dew-wet wind, not the cloud-stained dawn. I am only a girl, a small, plain girl, a girl who must smear her lips in honey to be found sweet.”
Amal El-Mohtar, The Honey Month
“Whether it was the quality of light or the clarity of my feelings for you, I don’t know, but there was softness and no blurring. ‘This is not a lie,’ I said to myself. ‘It may not hold, but it is true.’”
Jeanette Winterson, Lighthousekeeping
“He takes her in his arms. He wants to say I love you, nothing can hurt you but he thinks this is a lie, so he says in the end you're dead, nothing can hurt you which seems to him a more promising beginning, more true.”

Tasteful Nudes Innuendo # LOVESONA RSVP HERE ••• February 22nd from 7-10pm at Light Grey Art Lab Free and open to the public Prepare your senses, and your heart, for a steamy collection of the suggestively quirky and the salaciously spicy. Like a sip of red wine on satin sheets, Light Grey Art Lab’s February exhibition promises to be a perfect event for a romantic rendezvous or self-love celebration. Concepts of love, the body, and art have always coexisted - with great emotion comes great art, and naturally, creators frequently work to find unique ways to express these complex and beautiful facets of being a human. The 3 new collections opening this February at Light Grey Art Lab feature an eclectic range of original illustrative works and artist produced goods, featuring the aesthetics of the figure, the humor of taboo, and a collection of illustrated dating profiles. Tasteful Nudes: The delicate curves of a body emerge through the settling dust of chalk pastel. The artist peers over their drawing board at a trusted model, reclining elegantly on their vintage lounge sofa. Their masterpiece is complete… An exploration capturing the inherent beauty of the human form. The Tasteful Nudes Exhibition includes 50+ creatives and is a celebration of the sensual, the subtle, and the sensory aspects of the human form. From sexy self-portraits and boudoir-esque paintings, to romantic reclining poses, to suggestive silhouettes, 'Tasteful' is the key word! Works include original drawings, digital illustrations, and more. Innuendo: It’s 7th period in high school, you’re in health class, and the teacher brings out the inevitable props… A banana, a donut, and all sorts of properly conservative allusions to the body. The class snickers, and for the rest of the day, innuendos are passed from friend to friend under the probing ears of the teachers. Innuendo is a collaborative exhibition of artwork and goods featuring playful allusions to the lewd and salacious. The 80 featured artists have come together for Light Grey Art Lab’s yearly swap event, in which each artist creates enough of their chosen artwork or object to share with their fellow exhibitors. Participants have created a range of limited edition art objects including pins, postcards, stickers, zines, patches and more that dance around taboo subjects with humorous imagery. Limited quantities of each item will also be available during the opening reception and on Light Grey Art Lab’s online store. # LOVESONA: Are you a creative, looking to get out of the studio and into the Dating Sphere? Do you have a creative friend who would be a perfect partner, and you want to let the world know? Introducing # Lovesona! This February, we want to put a spotlight on the beautiful and unique singles that make up the creative community. Creatives have a unique way of looking at the world and themselves, and we want to celebrate what makes them great partners. Participants in the # Lovesona project draw a portrait of themselves or a creative friend, write a bio about their/their friends’ deepest passions and interests, and then post it with the hashtag # lovesona! Along with these profiles, we’ll also be creating interactive content and activities on the Lovesona instagram, to help people dive deeper into what makes their Lovesona unique. Throughout the month of February, Light Grey will be reposting these profiles on our @my.lovesona instagram, where we hope people will connect and, who knows, maybe even fall in love...
