Andy Warhol
One of the canvases is vibrant and bursting with energy, representing the star’s flamboyant public personality. The other is monochrome and sombre, the uneven application of ink causing her face slowly to disappear. The two contrasting sides of this work capture the contrast between Marilyn’s artificial public persona on the left and the harsh reality of her troubled private life on the right.
https://www.tate.org.uk/art/artists/andy-warhol-2121/what-was-andy-warhol-thinking
“Warhol loved gossip. He spent hours on the phone every day keeping up with the scene, and he naturally populated his world with men and women who shared his taste. Quite a few of these later produced memoirs: Gerard Malanga, who was Warhol’s principal assistant from 1963 to 1970; John Giorno, the star of Warhol’s first film, “Sleep” (1963); Mary Woronov, who performed with the Velvet Underground and acted in some of the films; and the so-called superstars Janet Susan Mary Hoffman (a.k.a. Viva) and Isabelle Collin Dufresne (a.k.a. Ultra Violet). Other Factory figures—notably Billy Linich (a.k.a. Billy Name), who was the de-facto chief of operations at the Factory; Brigid Berlin, a Fifth Avenue heiress and connoisseur of amphetamines; and the underground movie actor Taylor Mead—were interviewed repeatedly over the years”.

Photos show thrilling 'ring of fire' solar eclipse from this weekend
Skywatchers along a narrow band from west Africa to the Arabian Peninsula, India and the Far East witnessed a dramatic “ring of fire” solar eclipse Sunday.
So-called annular eclipses occur when the Moon – passing between Earth and the Sun – is not quite close enough to our planet to completely obscure sunlight, leaving a thin ring of the solar disc visible.
They happen every year or two, and can only be seen from a narrow pathway across the planet.
Sunday’s eclipse arrived on the Northern Hemisphere’s longest day of the year – the summer solstice – when the North Pole is tilted most directly towards the Sun.
youtube
It was first visible in northeastern Republic of Congo from 05:56 local time (04:56 GMT) just a few minutes after sunrise.
That was the point of maximum duration, with the blackout lasting a minute and 22 seconds.
Arcing eastward across Africa and Asia, it reached “maximum eclipse” – with a perfect solar halo around the Moon – over Uttarakhand, India near the Sino-Indian border at 12:10 local time (06:40 GMT).

More spectacular, but less long-lived: the exact alignment of the Earth, Moon and Sun was visible for only 38 seconds.
In Nairobi, East Africa, observers saw only a partial eclipse as clouds blocked the sky for several seconds at the exact moment the Moon should have almost hidden the Sun.

Despite some disappointment, Susan Murbana told AFP: “It was very exciting because I think I’m so obsessed with eclipses.”
“Today has been very kind to us in terms of the clouds. And we’ve been able to see most of it,” said Murbana who set up the Travelling Telescope educational programme with her husband Chu.
Coronavirus hits viewing
Without the coronavirus pandemic, they would have organised a trip to Lake Magadi in southern Kenya where the skies are generally clearer than over the capital.
“With the pandemic situation, we’re not able to have crowds… and get kids to look through or do stuff,” she said, but still managed to share the event on social media.

The annular eclipse is visible from only about two percent of Earth’s surface, Florent Delefie, an astronomer at the Paris Observatory, told AFP.
“It’s a bit like switching from a 500-watt to a 30-watt light bulb,” he added. “It’s a cold light and you don’t see as well.”
Sri Lanka closed its planetarium to prevent a gathering of amateur astronomers due to the coronavirus outbreak, but live-streamed the celestial event on Facebook.
A small group of about 15 students huddled around a telescope at the University of Colombo to watch the eclipse.
Some students used a welding mask to stare at the sun, while others wore glasses made with filters that cut out ultra-violet rays.
Coronavirus precautions were also taken in Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu, as dozens of students and astronomy enthusiasts gathered on a rooftop.

Only a few were allowed at the viewing area at a time, wearing masks and sanitising their hands as they waited their turn.
“I was worried because it is a cloudy day, but the view was excellent,” 19-year-old student Swechhya Gurung told AFP.
In Hong Kong, dozens of skywatchers ranging from astronomy enthusiasts with telescopes to families enjoying Father’s Day gathered at a waterfront park in east Kowloon to witness the spectacle, which lasted about 90 minutes.

Lunar eclipse to follow
Cheers erupted from the crowd when the cloud cleared and the eclipse was clearly visible.
The full eclipse was visible at successive locations over a period of nearly four hours, and one of the last places to see the partially hidden Sun was Taiwan.

A solar eclipse always occurs around two weeks before or after a lunar eclipse, when the Moon moves into Earth’s shadow. Lunar eclipses are visible from about half of the Earth’s surface.
A lunar eclipse is due on July 5, with the best viewing over North and South America, southern Europe and Africa.
There will be a second solar eclipse in 2020 on December 14 over South America. Because the Moon will be a bit closer to Earth, it will block out the Sun’s light entirely.

All About Tukwila Junk Hauling Services
The healthy environment of some country is the result of good pollution standards and recycling processes. Every responsible government will pay enough attention to this sector in order to secure a healthy environment for its citizens. But except for these benefits, by implementing certain environmental standards like recycling every country will have many benefits to its economy. In this article, we are going to find out which are benefits of recycling to country's economy and the environment. According to the All Recycling Facts, recycling saves money and also creates new jobs and generates revenue.
"And in the United States, according to the U.S. Recycling Economic Information Study, there are more than 56,000 recycling and reuse establishments in US and they employ approximately 1.1 million people. This number of workers is comparable to the automobile and truck manufacturing industry in the region, and is significantly larger than the mining and waste management and disposal industries there. In addition, wages for workers in the recycling industry are notably higher than the national average for all industries. Overall, annual revenues of about $236 billions are generated." the All Recycling Facts
Click here to read about Tukwila junk hauling services . People imagine recycling as just keeping plastic bottles out of the garbage. But this process is very complexed and every citizen should know something about that. Thanks to Susan Weber from The Love to Know we have an opportunity to find out everything about recycling and its benefits to an environment.
"The amount of municipal solid waste - commonly called trash - rose 60 percent from 1980 to 2005. It probably would have risen even higher if many states didn't start to set aggressive goals in 1989 to reduce the amount of garbage going into their landfills. Some states have set goals to reduce the amount they add to their landfills by 40 to 50 percent. Recycling is one of the most effective ways to reduce our reliance on landfills. Cities, counties and states have set up recycling programs to capture bottles, cans and paper that were previously dumped into the garbage. These programs have resulted in nearly 70 million tons of materials being diverted away annually from landfills." The Love to Know
For the end of this article, we are going to find out why is recycling last hope to save our Earth? Since we all have heard about global warming issue we need to pay more attention to recycling and other environmental regulations to save our planet.
"Through recycling of used products, the amount of fuel resources and emission of gases from industrial production gets reduced. The industrial production of goods from raw materials results in emission of harmful greenhouse gases like CO2, Sulphur-di-Oxide and others. These gases penetrate the Ozone layer of earth’s atmosphere which prevents the harmful Ultra-violet radiations of sun from reaching our earth. Due to greenhouse gas emission, our planet suffers from increasing temperature and global warming which has lot of negative impacts. By recycling used products we can reduce emission of green houses and global warming." The Pace Butler

London fashion week women S/S 2019 key Trends
London fashion week women S/S 2019 key Trends Barbra Aldina Tue, 09/18/2018 - 09:13
Nomadic generation, soft Romanticism and women empowerment is back at the London fashion week S/S 2019 show.

For the London fashion week spring summer 2019 she brings a romantic collection, verging on sentimental, with a palette inspired by the vast blue sky, green fields and pink dress worn by the protagonist in Andrew Wyeth’s painting “Christina’s World,” and white, which appeared as broderie Anglais in long and short incarnations of a prairie dress embroidered with black-eyed Susans.
Archer’s flair for embroidery was also at work in stems of fluffy-headed yarrow that appeared throughout, beginning with a soft pink silk pantsuit that belted at the waist and includes a mint green kimono and in a pretty off-the-shoulder blush satin-tiered gown.
Alice Archer was inspired by the author’s rich descriptions of nature, which she channeled into a collection abloom with embroidered wildflowers in silhouettes that lightly hinted at the period during which the books were published.
Virginia bluebells looked lovely backed by blue cotton in a drawstring waist jumpsuit with a Pierrot collar, and the ice green trousers that came with a matching midriff-baring bodice top was a nice balance of innocence and sophistication.
The eveningwear, which is usually a standout, fell slightly short of the mark. The mint gown with a satin bodice and tulle skirt would have been better all in tulle, and the top of the lilac two-piece ensemble looked a bit rudimentary by comparison to Archer’s previous efforts.

The design duo used dichotomies throughout the collection to reflect this type of twisted personality.
There were oversize, androgynous shirts with lingerie-inspired slip top peaking under; tailored jackets softened with ruffles and peplums, and harnesses layered over languid printed dresses.
“There’s some dangerous elements like harnesses but also ruffles to camouflage [her darker side],” added Harding.
Other highlights included ultra high-waisted trousers and structured jackets with large cargo pockets, that evoked a powerful, military-inspired image.
There was plenty to choose from in this collection, that was filled with easy-to-wear, everyday separates — but their brand’s strength continues to lie in their signature shirting and the skilfull ways they pull them apart and piece them back together.

Inspired by travel, she dreamed up her own travel company “A.C. World Travel Inc.” and transformed her show venue into an airport lounge. Models walked around the tricky-to-navigate arrivals and departure halls, sporting outfits that referenced “an array of incongruous destinations.”
There were businesswomen in smart ivory suits; girls ready to party post-flight in their crystal-embellished minidresses and others who put comfort first in logo tracksuits and printed pajamas.
There was also a whiff of the Mediterranean with a series of crocheted looks, accessorized with baskets and sparkly jelly shoes, as well as some safari references in the form of bandanas, large cargo pockets, and suede trenches.
There were plenty of desirable pieces, from the baby blue patent trenchcoats to the cute barely there slip dresses and Chung’s signature boiler suits, that ticked all the right trend boxes and will surely prove to be retail gold.

The collection took in a sensual, old-world luxury for the London fashion week S/S 2019. You will find a soft leather pencil skirt, a lineup of pleated print skirts, proper pussy bow blouses and jackets threaded and tied with silk scarves. The look was a more street looks, a lace slips with long deconstructed sleeves and short, halter-top trench dresses worn with white socks and mary jane flats.
Tisci's favorite Bambi came on shirts and trenches while snippets of phrases from Shakespeare, along with punk, pop, and historical references appeared on T-shirts and jackets and coats.
He put a cool spin on the trench, slimming it down, cinching it with a thick leather corset belt for the opening look, or piercing its edges with little gold hoops or studs. Elsewhere, he added little built-in, button-front panels or a patchwork of silk scarves.
Overall, his women’s offer outshone the men’s, with the classic and tailored portions looking sleeker than the off-duty clothes, which took in a deer spotted shirt that wondered aloud “Why Did They Kill Bambi” and a lineup of roomy suits slashed T-shirts and animal-patterned trousers.
Perhaps the strength of Tisci’s more formalwear is an indication that street, by Tisci’s own admission, has gone too far. Interestingly, Tisci referred to the casual and street-tinged sections of the show as the “young parts.”

For the collection, Tennant’s opening look for the London fashion week S/S 2019 was a languid, optic white suit, with an obi buckle belt setting up the tone for this collection that was all about ease, from the relaxed long dresses and trousers to the flat boots. no painful or twisted ankles here to the textured knits, which came as long wraparound dresses or were layered under tailored jackets.
Beckham said she wanted to play with contrasts, too, and to that end cinched a flowing white Greek goddess dress with a bright blue rope belt and slipped a pink one around the waist of a red ribbed skirt with a handkerchief hem.
Lace-edged slipdresses were layered over roomy, boyish flat-front trousers while delicate scalloped lacing peeked from the deep V-neck of a roomy black trouser suit.
The styles at the show were built for movement, which as a mother of four with a burgeoning business valued last year at 100 million pounds.

Koma put his own, minimal, all-out sexy spin on the drama, ruffled skirts and polka dots associated with the dance, refining ruffles into structural peplums and translating dots into sheer spot mesh or shimmery plexi embellishments, which winked along the edges of shoulder seams, cutouts, and hemlines.
Carmen Amaya, the late Romani flamenco dancer who would wear trousers in her performances to emphasize movement, was the inspiration behind the lineup’s terrific trousers. Also calling to mind styles worn by matadors, they were cut high on the waist, with a soft flare created by split hems.
His palette, as always, was on the noir side, freshened by white and lilac. Pieces in neon yellow or bright green looked better head-to-toe rather than paired with or trimmed in black, which made those looks seem a bit labored.
A lineup of literally dazzling gowns, the first he has shown on the runway, looked great in ombré plexi chainmail that faded from green to platinum or from black through to violet and green.

For years I’ve dabbling with restoring furniture. I enjoy the process of taking something old and giving it a new and happy start. This hobby began when I lived in Colleyville, Texas, after Jeff and I had three water pipes burst in opposite areas of our house. If you can imagine letting a water hose run for a good hour behind your walls, you have a good indication of what we were facing. Two days later, a demolition crew literally tore the inside of the house apart. They ripped out the carpet, tore down walls and ceilings and completely gutted the kitchen. The team moved quickly and finished the whole job in under three hours. Leaving Jeff and me in utter shock! It just so happened, that we were also smack-dab in one of the coldest Januarys brought our way. The snow was so thick it was uprooting trees. I kept winter blankets on the horses for weeks. And the house was freezing cold! On the other hand, we had talked about remodeling for years, now we had our chance.
The first step to putting our house back together, was to rethink our floor plan. We wanted an open concept that gave us plenty of space for our large family to comfortably gather. This meant taking down walls around the kitchen so the dining room and living areas flowed together. I’ll never forget the morning after this was done, when I walked into the front living room and could see through a large window off my kitchen, the backyard and pasture where my horses were grazing by the fence next to our pool.
Our next task was to tackle the layout of the kitchen, aiming for plenty of storage and over all function. We were fortunate enough to have friends who had a great deal of experience flipping and building houses. They helped us with the design and steered us to an excellent cabinet maker with a vision for creating functional storage in oddly shaped places.
The next step for me, was to come up with the actual décor and ambiance for each room. I’ve always been drawn to a shabby-chic–traditional—farmhouseVictorian blend, very eclectic, but me. For years I had saved photos from magazines specifically for a project just like this and was grateful I hadn’t thrown them out during one of my cleaning sprees.
Flipping through the photos, I took bits and pieces of what I liked and pasted them in a spiral notebook like a collage. Creating the design and color scheme I wanted to duplicate in each room. My notebook became my reference guide that I took everywhere with me. To Lowe’s, Home Depot and several trips to Sherwin Williams, where I sorted through every wallpaper book they had. I tested paint colors. I shopped antique malls and eBay for the vintage fixtures. I learned so much along the way and in the end, was thrilled with the final results
The above notebooks were actually put together for my Fort Worth house. I’m showing them as examples because I cut pieces out of my Colleyville notebook when I was moving. The following photos were taken when the Colleyville house was for sale. First we have the kitchen…
This is the window I mentioned, overlooking our backyard and pasture. Also, the red wallpaper you see on the open shelves and wall wainscoting, I used to line my cabinet shelves. Its easy to clean. Most of the time I just use a light coat of furniture polish.
The brick at the peak of both sides of the kitchen’s ceiling, is actually wallpaper. But people always thought it was real brick.
This sweet, vintage lamp hung over my kitchen sink. I moved it to my Fort Worth house
A sample of the brick wallpaper. My guests thought it was real brick
The wallpaper I used for shelves in the kitchen and the wainscoting in the family room
The tile mural over the oven
I used this wallpaper in a guest bathroom off of my kitchen. I was thrilled a few years later when I saw almost the exact design in England’s Highclere Castle, where the TV show, “Downton Abby” was filmed
This is the wallpaper with the valance I used in the bathroom
The butchers block in the corner, I used Miniwax, Provincial Stain, then covered it with a clear finish for protection. It was never used to prepare food, I just loved the look. Our cabinet maker put a large, Lazy Susan in this space, that I used to store my pots & pans. The small pull out to the right of the oven is a spice rack.
I covered the open shelves with curtains I made from a vintage, 1940 tablecloth.
When we bought this house the walls were covered in dark, oak paneling. Here’s a photo of my office as an example:
I wanted to lighten the room, make the house look cheerful. So I had the paneling painted, which gave the house a cottage feel, which I loved. I used Sherwin Williams paint, color #75702 Egret White; The woodwork is a Behr paint, color Ultra Pure White #1850.
The living room, with a wood burning fireplace. The floor throughout the entire house, with the exception of the bedrooms, was travertine tile. I loved the stone and the stone pillars in the next phots. That element of bringing the outside into the house.
This is the wallpaper I used in the wainscoting in the living and dining rooms, and in the corner shelf, by the staircase in the family room.

I have a passion for vintage items and was thrilled when I found the antique, fireplace mantel in this photo. To heighten the vintage look, I used a Victorian style wallpaper & border. To create a serene feel, I used a soothing blend of colors, all from the same color palette: Sherwin Williams: Walls – #6218 Tradewin; Ceiling #6217 Topsoil; Woodwork #6168 Moderne White.
