#sure. she's stressed. but she's either snapping at me when I ask abt shit I can't know yet or she's ignoring me. great basis for team work.

I snapped today at work, and by snapped I mean I politely commented on a help desk ticket by summing up an mess of an (type of) issue that's come up for at least the fourth time in the 2+ months I've been managing user accounts, and asked the person responsible to fix it (himself for once) because last time I fixed his mess-up it took me two whole days to work out the details with at least four other colleagues from different departments and I really don't want to do it again. there's other shit that needs doing, I've been working 10+ hour days for most of this week already, so I need to cut down not add on more.
(good thing tho - at least we managed to fix the issue where the dataset of a newer employee got mixed up with another one of the same name and therefore wasn't able to apply for any of the access/accounts she needed. technically not entirely my area but it does impact us not being allowed to create an account for her so I figured I might as well track that issue down. took three days and at least three other people, but hey - it should all work out now. yay for that)
#been feeling anxious af ever since bc it's the first time I've been this firm in a reply and idk how they'll take it#there's underlying issues in inter-departmental communication that need fixing that cause these issues to happen again and again#but my boss is on parental leave and his substitute is sick not that she cares or is up for doing her job where communication is concerned#so there's no real sense in addressing that rn esp by me who's only been there since June. but it does frustrate me a lot#anyway. I'm sure I'll get over this too. but yeah.. ppl not thinking things through for the two mins it takes to create an account#or the twenty seconds it takes to check if one already exists before creating a new one#or the minute it takes to check if folks still have an active contract past their time working in your department before deleting an accoun#just jfc. put in a smidge of effort and five mins total and save the rest of us from spending half a day to fix your mistake#oh well. if I get a pissy response I'll just blame it on being new as an intern and being too motivated and idealistic I guess#god forbid I expect people to do their jobs thoroughly or with at least a singular thought..#anyway. I feel like I'm allowed to be grumpy abt this since we are the folks who end up having to fix this shit#and by we I mean pretty much mostly me at this point bc one colleague is sick atm. my boss barely has time for this and is on leave#and my other colleague only works half time so I'm the one who's been handling most of these over the past month or so#which.. is still insane considering how I'm a goddamn intern who shouldn't even have admin rights tbh#but without them I couldn't do anything at all lol so here I am. nice that they trust and believe in me I suppose#that's why I try to do my best. (who am I kidding that's always the case anyway)#but yeah. definitely a 50% staff support job and only 50% of the other important things that need doing rn it's more like 90/10#and it's funny how I still dread my two hours of hotline. but every time the line is too busy I still jump in#we are also only 6 people atm out of 10 and three of us are still in training. and one of the trained folks had to come back in mid time of#next week we'll likely be 4#depending on if our substitute boss lady is back.. not that I'd look forward to it. she's a mess and she's been horrible to deal with latel#sure. she's stressed. but she's either snapping at me when I ask abt shit I can't know yet or she's ignoring me. great basis for team work.#so honestly I'd rather she not return on Monday. esp not if she's gonna spread her germs everywhere#but now sleep. sorry for the rant. it's certainly been quite the month since I returned from my own wisdom tooth rated sick leave..#gotta be up again in 6.5 hrs so I can be at work at 6 to let the electrician in. I'm gonna sleep so hard over the weekend I stg#a day in the life of..

hello! i hope you're having a nice day đ
also, i just fell in love w the way you write, and was wondering if i can request for an specific scenario!! you and jake are friends and have feelings for each other but no one confesses until you end up hooking up at a party 𤨠i thought abt this the whole day but i just know you're gonna write it better! please, and thank you đ
ââśâ° BOUND TO HAPPEN âąâˇâ
pairing: crush!jake x fem!reader
genre: smut
summary: a dull college party brings you and your crush closer than ever before. if you cum, you agree to be his girlfriend.
warnings: mentions of alcohol, pet names, oral (receiving), squirt, dom!jake, 2.3k words
a/n: thank u so much for your compliments and for your request <3 i donât really go to parties so iâm not sure itâs tooooo realistic/accurate, im sorry!!
âi think i just saw jake and his friends walk up your driveway,â you frantically patted at your friendsâ arms, waiting, rather impatiently, for one of them to admit that they invited him without telling you.
âitâs cool, y/n, i invited jay and you know that they canât be separated,â rayaâs hand found yours as she spoke. she gave it a tight squeeze before dropping it as three boys walked straight into her kitchen.
âhey, whereâs the party at?â one of jayâs friends asked, placing a crate of beer onto the counter. âwhere is everyone?â
âi said 10,â raya replied, âbut who actually arrives at 10?â
âtrue,â jay responded, continuing the conversation by asking about who he was expecting to see here.
you couldnât make out any names, all your focus was on the boy to his right. jake. he gave you a friendly smile and a slight wave, one that beckoned you over to him. you grabbed a bottle of beer from the kitchen counter on your way over to him and extended it towards him. he took it with a âthank you,â before grabbing his keys from his jacket pocket and opening the cap. âhow have you been? i havenât seen you in so long,â he joked, knowing youâd shared a lecture together that morning.
âugh so stressed, thereâs this one guy in my class, heâs so annoying!â you snarked back, âjake, i think his name is.â
ânah, i heard heâs super smart and hot, a distraction if anything,â he took a swing of his beer. you mimicked, taking a sip of your drink too. âfuck, what is this shit, tastes rancid!â he pulls it away from his face to read the label, â0%, who brought alcohol free beer to a party?â his eyes landed on the friend of jayâs that had come in shouting, he clicked his tongue and muttered something under his breath. âi genuinely have no idea who that guy is, and i donât think jay does either,â he laughed, whispering closely into your ear. your hand gripped his arm naturally as he spoke, you were barely able to concentrate on what he said, knowing he was so close to you right now.
âyou seriously donât know him?â you snapped your head around to get another look at the guy, âshouldnât we like, tell him to leave?â
ânah, no point, looks like heâs already found someone to defend him,â he points over towards the guy again, whose tongue is down rayaâs throat.
itâs midnight. the downstairs of rayaâs house is full of people, mostly students from your college but some you donât even recognise. over the last two hours, you realised that the guy who came in with jay and jake was actually the dj that raya had been sleeping with for the past month. he was loud and obnoxiously extroverted, and worst of all, pretty bad at djing.
a hand on the small of your back took you away from the conversation you were having with some people you knew from campus. âweâre playing truth or dare,â jay explained, guiding you to the kitchen, where, thankfully, the music was quieter.
ânah, not really for me,â you replied, turning back on yourself, when you noticed jake. âoh, are you playing?â you asked him, ready to change your mind.
âare you?â he asked back.
âno, sheâs being boring!â jay answered for you, leaving you with nothing more to add than an awkward smile.
instead of barging back in on the conversation you were just having with your other friends, you headed to the bathroom upstairs. jake followed quietly. as you went to shut the door, jake slipped into the bathroom with you, only realising once he was actually in the room with you that you probably came in here to use the toilet.
âiâm sorry, i didnât think this was the uh-â he stuttered his way through the sentence, trying to shut and cover his eyes for no reason.
âno itâs okay i didnât come in here to,â you coughed in place of the word, âiâm just here to get away from that lot,â you pointed to the floor.
âhonestly,â his hand scratched at the back of his head, âiâm kinda bored of this party.â
âme too,â you responded, a little too excitedly as if this was a groundbreaking opinion that you had in common. âshall we go to rayaâs room and talk for a bit? or just sit on our phones without being pestered to play some stupid drinking game?â
âyeah, i actually need to tell you something anyway,â he agreed with a shy smile, shuffling into the smallest space possible to let you unlock the door and lead the way, âshe wonât mind, right?â
âno, sheâs cool with whatever,â you shrug, twisting the door handle and walking into the disaster she calls a room. âdonât mind the mess, 3 girls had to get changed in here earlier!â you explain, as if heâd understand. you propped yourself against her headboard and threw all of the random clothes into the floor. you scurried your feet under the blanket folded at the end of her bed. he joined you after taking off his jacket, resting his head on her pillow, his hands clasped together on his torso. âwhat did you need to tell me?â you rolled onto your side, your hand sandwiched between your cheek and a pillow.
âoh,â he rolled over to face you, âthat guy, leo, heâs the dj.â
your heart sank as he told you, you were kind of hoping for more, and it was definitely clear on your face.
âand also that you look pretty tonight,â he smiled, his hand at your hip, âyou always look pretty in fact, i think about how pretty you are all the time.â
you hide your face by burying it into the pillow, âi thought those beers were 0%?â
âiâm being serious y/n,â he clarifies.
you look back at him again. his eyes are filled with sincerity, but itâs hard for you to remain focused on them when your eyes keep falling to his lips. you reassured yourself that it was okay, his eyes were doing the same.
âcan i kiss you?â he asks, taking his hand from your hip in favour of tucking a strand of your straightened hair behind your ear.
as he leaned closer, you felt his thumb graze over your lobe a few times. âplease,â you whispered.
it seemed to take forever for your lips to finally come together, but when they did, it was everything youâd imagined it to be. he took your bottom lip between his own, enclosing his lips around it more harshly with each kiss. it wasnât long before your tongues vied to enter the otherâs mouth. in the meantime, jake had managed to steady himself on his elbow, soon on top of you, between your legs. you were experienced enough to know exactly where this was going, but that wasnât what you wanted from this, so you pulled away for a moment.
âjake,â you started, snapping him out of the trance youâd put him in, âi really like you, you know that right?â your hands squeezed as his upper arms.
he melted under your touch. âi do now,â he laughed, âand i really like you too, donât worry.â
âso, i donât want this to just be,â you motioned to either side of you both, âjust whatever this is.â
âitâs not,â he chuckled before leaning in to give you a small gentle kiss on your lips. another shortly followed, and then a longer one at the corner of your mouth. you played with his hair between your fingers. âbaby, youâre already mine,â he commented, kissing your collarbone while tugging at the chest area of your shirt that showed a lot of cleavage. you managed to drop the straps of the top, shaking them off of your arms as jake eagerly tugged at your shirt some more, leaving it be at the middle of your tummy. his kisses trailed over your chest, down to the button on your jeans. âyouâre so fucking gorgeous,â he kneels between your legs as he tussles with the denim waistband of his own jeans while you do the same. you undo yours before him and wait for him to take them off for you, which he does along with your panties before even doing his own.
itâs almost as if he forgets to take off his jeans, as he shuffles down the bed with his thumb slowly circling your clit. he replaces his thumb with his plump lips, pressing a small, light kiss against it while your legs try to close in on him. he pulls away, his middle finger lapping your pussy before he gently pushes it in. âif i make you cum tonight, will you be my girlfriend?â his smile is cheeky, but you know jake well enough to know that itâs genuine.
your lips struggle to stay shut as you nod, trying your hardest not to moan under his touch already.
his head ducks again, âgood,â he smiles against your clit. his tongue fights the hood of your clit, easily finding the most sensitive part of your body in a matter of seconds. your hand pushes his head further onto you as his tongue works your clit and his fingers curl inside you. youâre not sure when he added another finger, but youâre enjoying it too much to care.
âfuck, jake,â your legs close a little more around his head as you feel a trickle, or maybe a stream, of water run out of you.
âdid you just squirt for me, baby?â he looks up at you while biting his lower lip.
âi think,â you laugh awkwardly, âiâve never done that before!â
âfuck thatâs so hot,â his fingers curl inside you one last time before he pulls them out. theyâre dripping wet, as you expected. âsuck on them princess, make them clean,â he commands. you take the two fingers into your mouth, swirling your tongue around them and trying to take more of their length as you would his cock. while youâre sucking on his fingers, jake manages to unbutton his pants to reveal his dick. he pumps it in his hands a few times while removing his jeans before tapping it against your clit.
âdo you,â you pause as he hits it against your clit one more time, causing you to shake in pleasure, âdo you have a condom?â
he scrambles off the bed, reaching inside his jacket pocket which he threw to the ground and pulling out a small silver tin filled with condoms. he singled one out and opened it up, rolling it onto his dick with the most adorable concentration face. he climbs back into the bed, his hands coming to your sides to flip you over and help you onto all fours in front of him. you back up, your ass against his hard dick, which is enough for jake to know you want it just as much as he does.
with his hand at the base of his cock, he pushes it into you gently, letting you take it all and get used to his girth.
âshould i move?â he asks, almost as if he feels guilty for his size.
you hum, itâs the only thing you can do while heâs inside of you, you realise.
he pulls his dick out and pushes it back in again, soon building up to a pace that suits you both. his hand has found your hair, heâs bunched it together and pulled it all back, using it to keep his balance as he fucks you. you help him keep his rhythm, throwing your ass back against him until he stops abruptly.
âturn over, baby, i miss that beautiful face of yours,â he taps your ass as he pulls out of you. a little short of breath, he relaxes back against his heels while you turn over. your hand finds your clit, rubbing it for him to watch. âis that how you like it?â he asks, mentally taking notes. he takes your hand away and places it near to your face, as if heâs asking you to suck on your fingers. he gets to his knees once again and lines himself up with your pussy. his dick misses a few times, which makes him a little mad at himself. you think itâs cute. he finally gets it in with a groan, âshit, you feel so good,â he compliments, leaning on his hand above your head. his lips find your forehead. he places a gentle kiss against it while whispering, âyou look so good under me,â before allowing himself to sit upright again. his pace matches the pace he set before, but this time he added rubbing your clit into the equation, just as you showed him only moments ago.
âjake,â your hand rested on his chest while the other gripped at the sheet beneath you, âiâm cumming,â you moaned and winced, your pussy throbbing around him. you felt so vulnerable in that moment, but you knew you were safe with jake.
âyouâre such a good girl,â his came close to your face again, taking your lips between his own and then pulling away as the pulsating became less intense around his dick. he began to fuck you again, but a lot sloppier and with more groans than before. he soon pulled out, pulling off the condom and wobbling and kneeling to the side of you in urgency before spraying your tits with his cum. you took your finger to your chest, scraping up what you could before dripping it into your mouth and sucking the rest off your fingers. jake pulled up his boxers and ran to the bathroom you were in earlier that night to grab a towel, the bathroom bin going with a loud clang as he disposed of the condom. he came back and patted your chest with the towel, your face too, all while laughing to himself.
âwhatâs funny?â you asked, searching for your own underwear with your hand.
ânothing,â he carried on, chuckling away, âyouâre just really cute.â you smiled to yourself, sorting out your rolled up shirt with your other hand to cover your chest again. jake tried to help, but unfortunately the only time he can keep his lips off of yours is to kiss your neck, or mumble against it. âeven cuter now that you're my girlfriend.â
âguys, why are you in my-â raya covers her eyes as soon as she notices jake is only in his boxers, ânot my best sheets, y/n,â she comments with a cry, before shutting the door, leaving the pair of you to laugh about almost getting caught.

Island life hadnât been all that you had expected.
There were many beautiful sides to it. In ways, it was the best decision of your life. Youâd wished to escape the stress and monotony of your previous everyday and you had succeeded. Now, you woke up every day to fresh sea air and sunshine filtering in through your blinds. No stress, no true responsibilities. You could busy yourself with walking around, catching bugs, fishing and relaxing. Even if the island was isolated, for you, for the ones for who the burden of modern society was too heavy, this was the dream.Â
But there has always been one more thing on your list of expectations; close bonds with the other people here, in your little haven away from the rest of the world. Itâd been that way, at first. But one by one, your close friends moved away. Never with much reason, theyâd seemed happy before. Your heart ached every time you had to say goodbye to another one. Soon enough, constant streams of villager came and went until the faces nearly blurred together in your mind. You kept up pleasantries, of course, but getting to know them was another story. You didnât want to say goodbye again.Â
Though you were certain it was all in your head, it had to be, you still felt insecure that it all had something to do with you. That it was your fault, somehow. Whenever you asked Tom or Isabelle, they claimed it was against the customerâs privacy to tell you such things. Which was fair, you guessed. They were two of the few people on the island that became a constant. Despite the villagers around you changing at a steady pace, they never left your side. Theyâd become a crutch. Even though they had busy schedules, they still listened to you when you stopped by.
It was hard to admit, but you depended on the two of them more than you should. The stability there was a welcome change.Â
After another afternoon of hunting bugs in the buzzing spring air, you entered the town hall, remainders of sweat still on your brow. "Good afternoon!" Isabelle's voice rung out from behind the desk, sending you a smile as she dusted off the desks in the back. Tom also sent you a greeting of his own, nodding at you, before he began furiously typing on his laptop once more.Â
Both busy, as usual. It was no surprise, the two never stopped having things to do. A twinge of guilt made you falter in your step for a moment, still, they always reassured you that your visits never bothered them. After claiming your daily Nook miles at the terminal, you plopped into a chair, leaning your head on your hand while waiting for Isabelle to come over.
"Any news on the residents?" It was the same question from you every day and the answer was often no different, either. You could simply fear having more work to do and another farewell to prepare.Â
"Ah-" Her lips quirked down. Whether her sadness was feigned or not, you didnât have the mind to worry about at the moment. "I'm sorry, I know she hasnât been here for long, but Pinkie told me she was leaving earlier today.â
Your head was already going over all the things you'd need to organise as the island representative. Sure, these two did their part as well and you were forever thankful, however, you still needed to see islanders off. Once Tom found another future resident, youâd have to pick a good spot, introduce yourself, show them around all the nice spots, become their friend-Â
âAre you alright?â Your head snapped to the side, body jolting. Lost in thought, you hadnât even noticed heâd taken his chair and put it closer to Isabelleâs, his brow furrowed and a warm hand against your arm.
âIâm⌠Oh.â About to say you were fine, like you always did, you found that your cheeks were wet. You werenât sure when youâd started crying. The realization only made it so that you shook more. Cracks appeared in the appearance youâd kept up for so long and the moment it started, it became impossible to put a stop to. Your cheeks burned, you couldnât look either of them in the eye. Of course youâd have a breakdown, how humiliating.
Isabelle immediately started fussing, patting your head and spilling comforting words that refused to quite reach your ears yet. She looked nearly as distressed as yourself nearly and throughout your tears, you cracked a smile. It didnât last long. Her worry was just so obvious and genuine that it felt kind of nice. âNo oneâs been bothering you, right?â She asked, grabbing your other hand and squeezing it.Â
âNo! Not at all. Iâm just⌠Tired,â You admitted with a trembling voice, staring at the droplets that dripped onto the desk. Above your head, unknown to you, Tom and Isabelle exchanged a knowing glance. âI donât mind being the representative, I like it, but I keep on having to welcome and say goodbye to new people! It feels like I⌠I barely know anyone here. I show them around and they never stay long. Itâs likeâŚâ You trailed off, incapable of speaking your insecurities out loud after all. Silence hung in the air for a couple of moments.Â
âYes, yes, itâs obvious. You need a break. Youâve been overworking yourself, hm?â Tom said, touch still comforting.
â...We were actually worried about you for a bit now.â Isabelle continued, head tilted to the side as she observed you. âYou looked tired all the time. I know weâre on a tropical island already, still-! What about a vacation? You should relax, take care of yourself!âÂ
You perked up, eyes flickering from Isabelleâs to Tomâs face. It wasnât what you were expecting. âUh, are you sure? Both of you have enough to do already- I donât want to cause you trouble.â
âI insist!â Isabelle said, looking sheepish moments later at her own loudness. âLike I said, we noticed before, so we might have made some preparationsâŚâ
âSheâs right, yes, yes. I have a guest room you can stay at, itâll be a little change of scenery. So, what do you say, hm?â He smiled, an attempt to cheer you up as well. âI wonât even change any rent.â
By now, you were aware he was far from upset with money, but still, itâd become somewhat of an inside joke. You snorted. âThatâs a first.â You played along. The prospect of spending more time around Timmy and Tommy was also nice, they were sweet kids. Wiping the tears from your face, you picked up the parts of yourself. You smiled, the expression coming naturally.Â
âThank you, both of you, really.â Smile turned into a grin. âWhen do I come over?â

A/N: 2266 words. Female!Reader. okay so the sprained ankle in Space Jump is a direct reference to something that happened in my theater class, that being a dude snapped his fucking femur playing Fruit Salad. DISCLAIMER: NO CREEPY SHIT I SWEAR TO GOD I WOULDNâT DO THAT; THEREâS A LITTLE BIT OF PINING FROM Y/N BUT THATâS IT. thereâs a few assumptions made abt Y/Nâs life; only child, parents (plural, idk how many, doesnât matter), plays Crash Bandicoot and Mario Kart, takes theater classes outside of school.

--
When youâre twelve, and almost at the end of your first year of high school, you get into a fight with your parents as to whether or not you still need a babysitter. Much to your chagrin, however, they donât see twelve as âpractically sixteen, which is practically an adultâ and you sulk for the full three days leading up to the night they were going out. The night of, youâre fully intending on staying in your room, until thereâs a knock at the door, and you hear a voice that is absolutely not your usual babysitter.
âBe good,â your parents call to you as theyâre leaving, having noticed where youâd cracked the door to your room to see who it was. You make a face at them, but youâre surprised to see a kid from Sixth Form on crutches, who is absolutely not Madeline, standing in the hallway awkwardly. Youâre pretty sure youâve seen him around school, maybe heâs on the soccer team? Youâre not sure.Â
âYouâre not Maddy,â you tell him, opening the door a little wider, and he seems surprised for a moment to see you there. A kind, awkward smile appears on his face as he regards you with gentle amusement.
âWell spotted, Iâm Ben, Maddyâs got the flu,â he explained easily, and offered his hand, âyouâre Y/N, right?â And heâs trying so hard, but youâre still kind of mad at your parents for insisting on a babysitter in the first place.
âWho else would I be?â You asked flatly, which surprised a laugh from Ben, but you shook his hand anyways; you had to give him props for trying, âwhy are you using crutches?â You asked outright, since youâre pretty sure he wasnât using crutches last time you saw him at school. You turned, heading for the living room, deciding to at least give him a chance.
âSprained my ankle in class the other week,â he explained, hobbling along behind you.
âSport or just P.E?â You asked, throwing yourself onto the sofa and picking up the TV remote. Ben was quiet for a long moment, and when you look at where heâs sitting gingerly on the edge of the sofa, heâs making a face like he doesnât quite want to admit the truth.
âTheater sports,â he explained, which piqued your interest, which, of course, you try not to let show on your face, because if your babysitter knows you already think heâs cool, you might die of embarrassment. But also, you suddenly feel incredibly validated for taking those theater classes every Thursday afternoon.
âTheyâre -â he tries to explain, but you give another eye roll.
âI know what theater sports are,â you tell him, and his smile turns amused.Â
âYou do?â He asks, and you think he might be a little bit impressed, or perhaps it was just wishful thinking, either way, you nod firmly, âwell I was in the middle of Space Jump - you know Space Jump, right? Where you start an activity and then someone else calls âSpace Jumpâ and you have to freeze and they have to make a new scene from your freeze, and then someone else comes in -â he explained, mostly to save you the embarrassment of admitting you didnât know the game, âwell I was up on one leg on a chair, climbing the rigging of a ship, you know how pirates do, and I froze, and -â he gestured how heâd fallen off the chair, with accompanying sound effects.
âCouldnât you have just put your other foot down and balanced yourself?â You offered, and he shook his head, expression adamant.
âItâs all about the commitment to the bit; I was trying to entertain them, and the best way I can do that is to put myself out there one-hundred percent,â he told you sincerely, âyouâve always gotta follow through.â
âYou sprained your ankle,â you pointed out, âisnât that dangerous advice?â He deflates a little, looking down at his leg.
âFollow through but use your common sense, youâve got common sense, donât you?â He asked, giving a wry smile, two which you nodded diligently, âdonât get yourself hurt, then,â he suggests, before changing the subject quickly, âyou hungry yet? Your parents said we could order pizza.â Youâre easily excited by the thought of pizza, a rare treat your parents allowed you whenever you were babysat.Â
Itâs a pretty uneventful night, all things considered, you order pizza, and he lets you win at Crash Team Racing, and youâre falling asleep to a comedy movie until Ben gently suggests that you go to bed. Youâre too tired to argue and try and weasel your way into staying up later, so you yawn loudly and wish him a good night before shuffling off to bed. The house is quiet, apart from where heâs watching a Top Gear rerun and waiting for your parents to get home.
You donât think about it much beyond telling your parents âyeah, heâs pretty coolâ when they ask. You donât think about him much beyond that, at least not for almost a full week, until youâre sitting in your geography class just before lunch, having managed to snag a seat by the window looking out onto the back field, and thereâs a PE class doing laps on the field. All are running, except the teacher, and a boy with blonde hair, standing with all his weight on one foot, and a pair of crutches tossed to the side, looking like heâs arguing the teacher.
âI heard when youâre in sixth form you get to push in the front of the line at the canteen,â you hear your friend, Merissa, next to you muse, and when you turn, sheâs followed your gaze outside to the field. After a moment, you turn again, and watch the blonde attempt to put weight on his obviously injured foot; it looks like he regrets it, and he sits on the grass, sulking.Â
âThatâs probably Ben,â Merissa tells you matter-of-factly, âheâs on the football team with my brother.â And something about the kind of unwarranted pride in her voice at being in the know makes your face scrunch up. Part of you wants to tell her that you know who Ben is, obviously, but another part of you doesnât want to admit to still needing a babysitter; it feels childish. So you keep your mouth shut and turn to back to the board.
And the following week, in your weekly theater class, youâre about to take your turn at Bus Stop, wherein your goal is to make the other person on the âbus stopâ as uncomfortable as possible until they finally leave, which is when youâll assume the roll of the innocent bystander, and someone else from the class will come up and try and make you uncomfortable. Itâs a lesson on improvisation disguised as a game.Â
The voice youâve been practicing slightly pinches your vocal cords, and youâve barely got a moment to assume a matching physicality, and you worry for a second that itâs not funny, that youâll just look like an idiot -
Put yourself out there one hundred percent.
You steel yourself, making strange shapes with your hands as you twist yourself into as much of a creature as possible, within reason, using the strange voice youâd concocted, feeling a thrill as your entrance gets the biggest laugh of the class. Oh.
A few months later, in the Summer after your first year of high school, youâre finally thirteen, and are allowed to have the house to yourself for the day, but if youâre parents are anticipating staying out later than midnight, you need -
âPlease,â you begged, âjust donât say babysitter, Iâm not a baby.â
âFine,â they acquiesce, âyou need supervision, just if weâre out very late.âÂ
Despite your indignation at the situation, Maddyâs got a cello concert, and youâre hoping that that means -
Ben greets you like a friend, wearing a denim jacket with no crutches, and he might be the coolest person you know.
âYou still on Crash Team Racing?â He asks with raised eyebrows as he heads into the living room, and you roll your eyes.
âThatâs so old school,â you scoff, and he raises his hands in surrender, trying not to look as amused as he feels, watching as you pull out two Wii remotes, âMario Kartâs much better.â And you hand him one.Â
Heâs not above letting you win, but it turns out, he doesnât have to; youâre scarily good at the game, which you credit to playing pretty much nothing else for a solid month, and by the time the pizza arrives, the win ratio is about fifty-fifty, and youâve bonded considerably over your mutual and unreasonable hatred for Waluigi, the only NPC who seems to consistently beat you both.
âDo you get to push in the front of the line at the canteen?â You asked, holding your pizza in one hand and letting it cool for a moment.
âHuh?â Benâs burnt the roof of his mouth, and is reaching for his drink when you ask, âwhaddya mean?â
âMy friend Merissa says Sixth Form gets to push in the front of the line.âÂ
âI donât think weâre technically allowed to,â he says after a moment of consideration, and you hear his nonverbal âbut we still doâ anyways, âitâs not a rule rule, you know?â
âAre the A-levels hard?â
âHavenât done âem yet,â he answers honestly, burping quietly after taking a drink, and you hum, and take a bite of pizza.
âIâm already scared of my GCSEs,â you admit after a moment of chewing, and Ben laughs gently.
âYouâve got nothing to be afraid of,â and he sounds like he means it, so you canât help but believe it, soothed a little in your premature worrying. To be fair, Ben could say anything about school or life and youâd probably believe it; he was cool and older than you, but he treated you like a friend.Â
You mention in passing that youâd gotten the lead for your classâs skit in the end of year showcase your theater company puts on, and mentions that itâs because youâd been committing to the bit in class, and the pride in his voice when he congratulates you is something you end up thinking about for days.
He ends up babysitting you twice more that Summer, not that you were complaining. It meant you got pizza, and to hang out with the coolest person you knew, a fact which you reiterated to your parents, much to their fond amusement, though you made them swear to never tell Ben that. He brought over Super Smash Bros and you guys would play for hours.
The only problem was that Ben was never allowed to know about the crush you had on him, because everyone in the world knew it was weird to have a crush on your babysitter, and youâre pretty sure he has a girlfriend and -
Doesnât matter. Youâre just started to discover the delightful world of crushes and relationships, and Merissa has a boyfriend on Tumblr, and you know that when you get back to school you can have a normal crush on a normal boy in your year, even if all the boys in your year look like thumbs. And Ben...
Is your babysitter. And a decent guy. And your friend, sort of. So you just hope he hasnât noticed.
After Summer, heâs studying his A-levels, and Maddyâs got a day job so she can babysit at nights again, and it feels like everythingâs gone back to normal, like you can breathe again.Â
Youâve never really seen him at school; you donât tend to hang around the back fields, but a few weeks into the first term, youâre having lunch with Merissa and Charlie, one of your other friends, in the library, when you spot him laden down with textbooks, making his way to one of the study rooms at the back. Youâre not sure if heâll even acknowledge you, even though your table is directly along the best route to the back rooms, so you just give him and smile and a nod in greeting.
âHey, Y/N,â he grins quickly, doesnât stop, but nods in return, and your heart feels like itâs beating out of your chest. Charlie sinks her nails into your arm the moment heâs gone into the study room, and Merissa quietly screeches your name.
âChill out,â youâre trying to keep a low profile, but both other thirteen year old girls are demanding to know what just happened, âweâre friends.â You say with a shrug thatâs far too casual.
âFriends?!â Merissa demands, and you can feel yourself growing more flustered.
âWe hung out a few times during summer,â you open your notebook in front of you, trying to distract yourself.
âYou hung out with Ben? Y/N heâs a football guy, heâs so old, heâs like eighteen!â
âWeâre friends,â you insist, âdonât be, like, creepy about it,â you snorted, and Charlie let out a pterodactyl-like noise. They drop it at your insistence, and youâre just glad they donât ask you to elaborate.Â
You donât see Ben much after that anymore, heâs too busy with his A-levels to babysit, and when youâre fourteen, your parents agree that you donât need a babysitter anymore. Youâre more than happy to let your Summer crush fall to the wayside, and let your memories of Ben, like all good Summer memories, fade into blurry obscurity.Â
You wouldnât need to worry about seeing him again anyways, right?
Oh how wrong you were.

Any Son and/or Briefs family headcanons? Spicy hot takes? Truths Toriyama and Toyotaro themselves can not handle? Straight up lies?
GODDAMN SORRY this took a while cause i suck at putting thoughts together. i apologize for my obvious briefs bias i have more hcs for them than the son family despite loving them both :pensive: anyway heres some random stuff
briefs hcs:
all of the briefs are pros at non-verbal communication. i hc that saiyans have their own language (and also in my own Mind Canon they still have their fuckin tails) and a lot of it is done through tail movement/body posture/grunts/etc. etc so theyve all sort of picked that up. even bulma, who doesnt have a tail, is pretty good at getting across what she means without actually speaking. they still do speak normally but it comes in handy sometimes considering that both trunks and vegeta are prone to running out of speaking energy or getting very frustrated with words, so having another way to communicate works very well for them
vegeta is fffffffffffffffffffurry. without getting too deep into my own General Saiyan hcs (thats why i made a whole ass four subspecies!!) i think that the entirety of planet vegeta tended to be very hot aside from the part where the castle was, where the temperature would drop. meaning that saiyans working in the palace would grow thicker fur around certain parts of their body, and in the royal saiyans theyd be Especially fluffy. he kept it down on earth, but he has thick patches of fur around the bottom parts of his arms and legs. kind of like snowy boots and gloves! he also has fur that grows in on his neck like a lions mane.
future trunks is an actions sponge, vegeta is a words sponge. vegeta will pick up words VERY quickly regardless if he fully understands the meaning of it or not (completely inspired by 'THATS RIGHT BOYS... MONDO COOL' in z) and future trunks will unintentionally mimic the actions of people - around people he looks up to he might take a few small mannerisms from but this extends to copying the disposition of anyone; he's just very adaptive. this is the most obvious (and funniest) when he's around vegeta bc it really shows like. yeah damn that sure is vegeta's son
vegeta & bulla have an intimidating bastard smirk naturally. their natural smiles are pretty frightening and they have to put effort into a 'normal' one. this also extends to current trunks, his default smile is the Vegeta Bastard Smirk but he learned to have a normal smile quicker than his father and sister. future trunks has a slightly unnerving natural smile (the fact that his pupils are always drawn so fucking small makes me hc that he just has a very intimidating look of 'cat thats about to pounce on an unfortunate trapped mouse' whenever he smiles) but he learned to look normal even quicker than current trunks since he's around humans a Lot and is sort of their uh, Hope. don't want to look scary to the people who depend on you!
bulma has some fighting knowledge and mildly good ki control. vegeta taught her it as a just in case so that she'd be able to defend herself against Bigger threats if he wasn't there and also so she could raise her own ki to alert someone to her if she had to.
vegeta is extremely clean and can not stand to have things disorganized for more than like... an hour before he has to tidy everything up. every time he goes down to the lab and bulma is passed out in a pile of bolts and circuit boards it kills him inside just a little bit
future trunks has little concept of power control. since his timeline was always in danger it wasn't really an important thing for him to learn. the amount of mugs he's accidentally crushed is impressive
vegeta tends to not sound like he's asking questions when he is. he doesn't add the proper infliction to the end of his questions and just sounds flat most of the time. it's confusing to people who dont know him well.
im not even gonna lie, im a BIG fan of the chill demon panchy headcanon so i love the idea that the briefs have a Lil bit of demon in them but just dont know it ghjnkm
[banging my fists on the 'hcs that not even got could take away from me' table] future trunks has OCD
vegeta doesn't really get labels but he's bisexual & "debatably a man", bulma is bisexal & bigender transfem (sometimes shes Wamen and other times its like "gender? no"), bulla is a nonbinary lesbian, current trunks is a bisexual trans man & future bulma forgot to explain the concept of gender and sexuality to future trunks so he's a little confused on that front and his gender & sexuality are "i have literally never thought abt these concepts in my life but i think men are nice. i refuse to think about gender though" (i actually have two main hcs for future trunks which are either gay trans man or more-feminine-presenting nonbinary bisexual)
son hcs:
goku is Not as fluffy as vegeta at all, but he does have fur on certain parts of his body. namely on the back of his elbows + ankles, down his back connecting to his tail, and on his shoulders. its inherented from gine!
gohan is learning saiyan language from vegeta! vegeta acts grumpy about it but he's glad to have someone to teach. when gohan learned that most of the history had been lost he basically wished shenron for a big ol book on saiyan culture and gave it to vegeta just as an act of kindness and vegeta was like [in an angry voice but very touched] "Ok. Sit down. You're learning." by extension gohan is also teaching the rest of his family!
i will take ox king being actually non-human to my grave so like, chichi has horns and a very short ox tail! gohan and goten both have horns, but they're hidden by hair. goten's horns are bigger than gohans.
goten also has a more ox-like tail, with a little puff of fur at the end. generally, gohan looks more saiyan-like and goten looks more ox/human-like.
although he keeps up his cheery demeanor very well, goku is still haunted pretty badly by like... everything thatâs happened in his life. he still has frequent nightmares about cell & buu specifically.
gohan will freak out at worse, zone out at best, if he's even tapped on the neck. it reminds him of the whole 'getting his neck snapped on namek' so that area is pretty off limits to everyone
goten gets along really well with android 17. they both have a love for nature and 17s kind of like his chill uncle, so whenever he gets too stressed out or just needs a break you can find him face down on the ground outside of 17's place on monster island.
goku is really really good at remembering completely random shit. bulma uses this to her advantage whenever she's working and has him memorize random technology stuff. a week later goku can not remember what he had for breakfast that morning but as soon as bulma asks "hey do you remember what i told you last week" hes like "oh yeah sure i have no idea what it means but [blurts out three hours worth of technical garble]"
oh boy is this a headcanon that has a lot more depth to it than just a bullet on a tumblr post, but gohan has DID!
goku, like vegeta, doesnt get labels either, and does not even Try, ask him about any of it and hes like "i dont get the gender thing but i think lots of people look nice :)" gohan is gay and like vegeta, "debatably a man", goten + chichi are both bi nonbinary, & pan is a lesbian trans woman.
both:
bulla and pan are both into music! i think theyd mess around making their own stuff w/ launchpads
i have a general hc of ki mixing or shielding, essentially, if youre close enough to someone people wont be able to tell apart your ki and you can also 'shield' someone with your ki for a small amount of time. if vegeta has his energy low, his and bulma's energy are the same. same thing with goku and chichi! goten and trunks are near impossible to tell apart, and same thing with gohan and videl.
though goten and trunks are both protective over their younger siblings, gotenks is that protectiveness times a thousand. look at bulla or pan wrong for 2 seconds and you're going to have an angry gotenks in your face asking if you have any last words. i like to think that trunks and goten fused casually a lot, especially around the time where bulla and pan were young, so its basically goten and trunks own attachment to them PLUS gotenks' attachment to them as his own person combined.
i like to pretend end of z did not happen the way it did so uub, using nimbus, travels back and forth a lot. goku isnât the only one who teaches him how to fight as goten, gohan and trunks all think of him like a little brother and love training with him!
fuck you letters to toriyama/toyotaro hot takes:
cell, as cool of a villian as he is, definitely should have had a creepier final form. or multiple- just something that really drives in the fact that he's made up of other's dna & fuckin ABSORBS people. also his first two forms should have had a different absorbtion method other than the tail thing (not the drinking thing thats fine) it just feels. Â Weird. not good
it would have been far more interesting to keep the bitter attitude towards vegeta that future trunks had imo... in super trunks was going through a Lot granted but the fact tht he wasnt more confrontational to vegeta being a dick to him seemed kind of off considering his attitude in z i just.. think it would be interesting and far better if they had more of a back and forth 'family but lowkey hate each other' relationship
i dont want to rant about super so heres some super condensed takes, goku black arc specific because thats 90% of what ive seen of super:
mai is a fucking freak ass weirdo, why did they not just make another character to pair with trunks
trunks not flipping the fuck out at his timeline being erased feels... out of character. also trunks deserved the win against zamasu
future bulma did NOT need to die
trunks should have just stayed in the current timeline
please fucking let trunks and goten grow up. we SAW a version of trunks who looked 14 (history of trunks....) and the versions of goten & trunks we have r/n in super do not look 13/14 respectively what in the goddamn hell is going on in the character design department
super definitely should have taken place later down the line
supers version of bulma and videl look awful. why are they That stick like.
vegeta needs to kill frieza. just once.
fu has enough potential to be a very interesting mainline character and i am so sad he's not
i would actively enjoy a sdbh anime with more  budget that isnt just a promo anime and has a plot that makes sense... i think db should have more wild spinoffs
xenoverse deserved a better story that went FULL in on the 'what if' type of timelines- like they did in raging blast which is a FUCKING GREAT GAME
straight up lies:
dragon ball z is a good series
#yes db is my hyperfix. that doesnt mean its good <3 but its mine now and i make whatever i want canon#long post#fleetinginterest

Whisper Just For Me Ch. 15: Reunion
This chapter is SFW! This chapter is also available mirrored on my AO3.
Just having someone back in your presence doesn't always mean they're really there, especially when that someone is a ghost. How much of Dave is with you, and how much of him was affected by your time apart? Is it really a reunion when only one person is aware of the reuniting?
Your dreams were empty. You were holding out hope that Dave would visit you, would talk with you, would get rid of the lingering worry that clung to your mind like a sticky veil of spiderwebs. Instead you got repeats of different scenarios you've had in the past, strange distortions of shadow and light, a strange sequence of trying to buy a set of pants from a food stall only to find they didn't have your size, and your father trying to pass off one of his finest hats to you after it had been coated in peanut butter, blending the symbolic niceties of adulthood and achievement with a death threat. If you believed in omens it probably would have meant a lot. Good thing you don't believe in it without a gut feeling and the only feelings it gave you were confusion and a stomach ache.
You woke with your hand instinctively curled around the pendant as if trying to keep it warm, despite the material being plenty warm in your hand already, a reminder of who dwelled within it. Good, he was making some reactions now aside from just a loose sensation of presence.
â...Dave?â you said quietly, a sleepy murmur. âDave, can you hear me in there?â
  Silence.
â...Dave, I'm so sorry for what happened. If I was even remotely aware anything like that was going to happen I'd have done everything different somehow. I'm just glad we got there in time.â
More silence, but the warmth in your hand didn't diminish. Dave was definitely still in there. Maybe he was sleeping in too.
Your phone let out a few familiar tones to signal you had messages coming in, rapid fire texts that had you wondering just how many people were texting you at once till you could get at it and turn the screen on with a press of the button along the side. ...Huh. Okay, five texts in a row from a number you were sleepy enough to not recognize as Rose's for a moment.. No, six, your phone chimed again in your palm to try making you scroll down. Okay, maybe you wouldn't have recognized it was from Rose's number right away anyway, this was definitely not her normal way of texting.
TT: hey when you get this cn u like txt me back asap
  TT: *can
TT: its roxy rose said i should hit u up again to like
TT: check in and shit about what happened
TT: srry for treating u like u two were gonna rob me blind but 2 be fair u were acting creepy
TT: is that ghost thing okay btw or is that not a gr8 thing to ask
Another few chimes as you were trying to formulate how to even reply, which left you marveling at the speed with which she could text. Was he okay? He still wasn't talking or glowing or.. much of anything beyond keeping the pendant warm. He wouldn't do that if he was sick right? ...Wait, do ghosts even get sick? What was the right word for this. Exhaustion? Strained? It couldn't last forever, he'd be back to normal soon surely.
TT: srry not ghost thing i guess i mean dave
TT: rose filled me in a bit but it still dsnt make much sense
TT: guess it makes more sense than me goin crzy tho
  TT: *crazy lol
Yeah, no shit. Even this deep in everything there were times you worried you were just actually crazy and none of this unbelievable mess was real at all. Rubbing sleep from your eyes, you pushed yourself to sit upright in bed, put on your glasses, and started to slowly type out a reply with your pointer finger.
EB: hey, yeah, i'm here. sorry, i just woke up.
TT: o shit my bad lol
EB: no, it's no problem. thanks for getting in contact though. and sorry for uh.
  EB: you know.
EB: barging into your apartment and alerting you to the whole concept of ghosts i guess?
TT: like i said dont worry abt it
TT: im just glad everythins back to normal in here
TT: I hadnt realized just how weird the place felt till now
TT: muties finally able to chillax again
EB: i'm still kind of amazed you believed us at all, but if you'd been feeling things for a while then i guess that would all just kind of line up, huh.
TT: just another day in the bullshit mines
TT: rose talks about stuff like this a lot but i kinda never rlly believed her
TT: hindsight 2020 foot does not taste gr8
You grinned at your phone and let the screen go dim once more before stuffing it into the pocket of some sweatpants you then wrangled on. Might as well not delay the inevitable and just get up. It took a few more tries than usual to get up, fatigue weighing heavy in your bones, but get up you eventually did to shuffle to the kitchen. A banana wound up in your other pocket, keeping your hands free for motoring around to thump down on the sofa. Jade perked up soon as you went down, shuffling her legs to get your weight off her feet and poking a head full of sleep wild hair out from underneath the throw.
  â...S'it morning..?â
âYeah. Or later, I didn't look at the time,â you admit, pulling your phone out of your pocket to peek as the banana was yanked out in a dual wielding motion. You bit the standing end of the banana and tipped it sideways till the peel cracked, making it easier to open one handed. Wisely, you waited till you had a bit mouth full of fruit to try talking more. âCloser to noon it look like. Oh, and Roxy wrote.â
âHow'd she get your number?â Jade asked. She crawled to the floor to get at her purse, rummaging around for a brush to start taming the mass down enough to apply some strategically placed hair ties.
âOh, no, she was writing from Rose's phone. I guess they met up today in one way or another? She said everything feels better at her place so.. I guess that at least shows Dave didn't dislodge somehow or anything.â
  âHas he.. y'know. Said anything?â
You frowned and took another bite of banana, then another till it was gone, delaying as if the extra few seconds stalled would somehow give Dave enough incentive to interact again. No such luck.
âNo. Nothing.. Oh! But the pendant's warm! He's definitely in there, just..â
Just what. Just tired? Just ghost broken? Did ghosts get sick? You sank down further in the sofa and let your leg slide further along the floor with a heavy sigh. This sucked. This really, really sucked.
â...I wish I knew enough about what was happening to fix it.â
âWe could always ask Rose if you want. She seems to have good ideas on this stuff, maybe she'd understand what was happening,â said Jade, opening up a compact mirror to check and see if the low segmented pigtails were a good look that day. Verdict was a resounding yes from the way she snapped it shut with a happy grin and dropped the supplies back into the bag. âOr we can just wait and see what he does next on his own.â
âYou make me sound like a helicopter parent when you put things like that, Jade.â
  âHelicopter boyfriend.â
  âHelicopter whatever! Same thing!â
  âI mean-â
âYou know that's not what I meant,â you frowned. âI just want to do what's best by him. I'm kind of responsible for him now, and I already fucked that up in a big way. Getting him back's like a second chance, but I can't do the second chance right from the very beginning if something's wrong.â
âThen call Rose,â shrugged Jade as she got up from the floor and sauntered off to pilfer breakfast from your fridge.
âYeah but what if that just makes it worse somehow, what if we're supposed to wait for something to happen!â
âJohn either call her, let me call her, or shut up and relax! Holy shit, it's not the world ending, it's either getting more potential information from a verified source of accurate information, or making our own estimations based on study and other information sources. It's as if you've never heard of a reasonable hypothesis before,â she grumbled, then disappeared around the corner.
You frowned the way she went.
âYou could've at least taken my banana peel with you!â
âFuck your banana peel, you've got a leg and two arms that aren't broken!â
You immediately stuck your tongue out in her direction, already knowing she couldn't see it, but hoping she could feel your rankle even through the wall. Heaving another sigh, reveling in the dramatic for a moment, you turn your attention to your phone once more. It hadn't pinged again to signal an incoming flurry from Roxy, so you assumed it'd be safe to call Rose now. Jade was right. She'd probably know what to do.
The phone rang several times before you heard the familiar voice on the other line and smiled.
  âHello?â
  âRose?â
  âObviously.â
âYeah. So. ..Uh.â Come on, spit it out, what if this was time sensitive or something? âDave's home now... I think. But he's not talking or anything. No dream visits, no lights, no interacting with anything. The most he's done is warm the pendant up,â you start to explain. âI'm worried he's. I don't know. Sick? Exhausted? What happens now, how can I help fix him? I finally got him home but I can't even talk to him.â
Everything had started as a trickle before finishing in a rush of stress balled up into English and launched out of your mouth like cannon fire. You held your breath, listening closely for a response.
  âWell.â
âŚ.Well that wasn't what you were hoping for. It takes effort to remain quiet and wait instead of pointing that out and being sarcastic. Stress sarcasm didn't tend to do the best things.
âI think he likely just needs rest. Roxy already caught me up to everything that happened prior to and just after him leaving. It's possible he just expended way too much energy while apart from you and needs to rest now. Perhaps even sap energy from his surroundings.â
You frowned and furrowed your brow in thought. It had felt harder to get out of bed today, but was that Dave already sapping from you, or was it just the reality of getting around on crutches for too long at a stretch?
âIs there anything I can do to help though? I mean. I guess if he's going to be doing that draining thing while this tired, is there anything I can do to make it easier for him to do it?â
You heard Rose sigh and the creak of whatever seat she was in.
âHm. Well, not exactly anything you can DO. Not strictly speaking at least. You can make yourself more open to him, perhaps. Leave yourself like an open door, let him get at you easier. Keep him in range obviously. Make sure you eat and sleep often enough, perhaps rest up and take things a little easier. Be the reserve battery.â
You wet your lips and nodded, though obviously Rose couldn't see you. You hoped she'd get the feeling you nodded anyway.
âIs there any way I'll be able to tell when he's back to normal?â
âWhen he's back to scattering papers and bothering you, most likely,â Rose said, the soft sound of a chuckle flavoring her words. âBut I think he'll make himself known when he's able to. The way you've talked about him makes it seem like he's probably just as excited to talk to you as you are to talk to him.â
It was a comforting though. Another few nods you hoped Rose was able to detect happened as you tried to collect the rest of your thoughts.
âWhen should I try telling him about the things Jade and I learned? About.. y'know, about his everything. His history and stuff.â
Rose was quiet for a moment. You could almost picture her biting her lip, pale teeth on black lipstick that somehow never seemed to smudge or get spotty.
âI'd recommend keeping your mouth shut about much of that until he's for certain stronger. It's hard to gauge his specific reaction, but the last thing you'd want to have happen is for the information to make him decide to go and then be unable to leave due to not having enough power.â
âSo.. I just need to be a good battery and wait for him, and then get to the nitty gritty when he's all recovered and back to obnoxiously normal.â
âThat's the gist of it, yes. Keep him close and in contact. Think of it as spoon feeding someone overtaken by illness while they recover.â
âI'm already recovering, I think I can handle a bit more of the resting. Hah, might make Jade happy to finally get off my feet and just take it easy for a while longer.â
She chuckled. âNo doubt. I'd be interested to hear about your progress as things continue, actually. Will you be tracking things as you were before? That data is extremely useful to have on hand, it gives good insight on whether things that feel like they should work are actually beneficial. Who knows who might else wind up in a similar situation someday with a spirit and need to tend it before it can properly move on?â
âYou make it sound like opening a ghost infirmary or rehabilitation place is an option, Rose.â
Another soft sound from the other end of the phone and far too long of a pause spanned silence till you laughed, awkward. âRose. I was kidding.â
âYes. Kidding. Still an intriguing idea. I wonder if spiritual rehabilitation could work in the case of negative spirits as we-â
âRose, I'm gonna have to let you go for now,â you interrupted. âI'm sorry. I'll call back later on with updates, okay?â
âHave Jade call me later, if you could?â
  âAbout Dave?â
âNo, to make dinner plans. I think her phone may be drained, it just goes straight to voice mail.â
That wasn't like her. Maybe she turned it off instead of it dying. Either way, you nod and make a sound of confirmation just in case Rose wasn't psychic enough to understand just how earnestly you'd been nodding this entire time you'd been conversing.
âSure thing. Thanks again, Rose. And uh.. Rose?â
  âYes?â
â...Could you tell Roxy to send me a bill for what all she'd need to get her laptop running again? I feel like it'd probably be better if I paid or helped pay for a good chunk of that. Even if it was an accident, just. ..Yeah.â
It was kind of the least you could do, considering someone innocent got caught in some pretty serious crossfire. Things could have easily given way to a fire, taken out the entire apartment building or gotten others killed.
âI'm sure she'll appreciate it. Between that and her phone, I think her run of bad luck took a bit more out of her than she'd be willing to admit. I'll just pass her your email address and she'll forward something.â A soft chuckle. âIf she doesn't, then I'll figure it out and send the information your way instead.â
  âPerfect. Thank you again, Rose.â
You hung up as Jade was coming back in with a bowl of cereal loaded to the brim, sipping milk from the edge where it precariously sat just waiting to spill all over the floor. She cast a green eyed glance your way to be sure she wouldn't squash anything before sitting down beside you on the sofa to crunch away. Apparently the back and forth sassing hadn't left any lingering bad tastes in her mouth towards you, at least judging by how close and comfortable she sat.
There was no mystery involved if Jade Harley was angry with you. You were very, very well aware.
âRose said to treat myself like a good little battery and just wait on him to make the most of it. Give her updates.. and she wants you to call for dinner plans? Your phone's apparently off.â
Jade swallowed sideways and nearly choked on her cereal.
âWhat? Fuck. I forgot I did that. Right, don't worry about it, I'll call her soon as I finish this. ...But that's it, huh?â
âApparently so. Take it easy, eat and sleep plenty, keep him close. I wonder if talking to him helps even if he can't respond yet. Would he be able to hear?â
âIf he's awake he'll hear. Maybe he's just not strong enough to respond and he's actually wide awake worrying? Talking is a good idea.â
âGreat, more excuses to talk to myself in public, exactly what I want.â
âTruly, you lead a charmed life,â she said with a grandiose gesture of her spoon before popping more cereal into her face. The mood seemed reset now that your obligations were complete. You had solved the mystery of how Dave died, of his origins. You'd gotten Dave back, though you weren't quite able to celebrate freely yet. You were going to repair damage done and set some debts right before they could become an issue. You had ideas on how to help fix things in a lot of ways.
  All you needed was patience.
  ...Fuck does patience suck sometimes.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - -
You'd spent nearly two weeks being the best battery you were able to be. You ate plenty of decent food, took naps whenever you could, and otherwise gave yourself as much physical rest as you were able to on the sofa when not busy. The entire time you were also murmuring to yourself, talking softly towards the pendant you couldn't help but keep touching, narrating your life and your thoughts to a sleeping spirit that you were guarding. The stone remained comfortingly warm as a hand you could hold in your time alone, and a few times you swore you could feel a soft pulse of a presence coming from it. There had been no speaking however. No dreams being visited.
The paranoid part of your brain was worried enough that it started to offer up all kinds of awful scenarios that were possibly coming true, despite having clear evidence to the contrary that anything was going wrong. Dave was quiet, but he was there. You knew he was there. ...You just wished he'd react more than a pulse or warmth.
Dave granted your wish one night. While you worked on your laptop in bed, fucking around on a forum in one window, talking with friends in another, and doing a little research into some new devices for spirit communication that were making the rounds in the online sources, you failed to notice the slender trail of red light leaving the pendant. You also failed to notice the red ball form, only realizing something was up when the corner of your eye caught the red haze starting to take a different shape.
  âWh-. Dave?!â
Fumbling with your laptop, you sat bolt upright in bed and glanced down to the pendant before back towards the apparition that was struggling to form something specific. Humanoid was a good start, but it seemed like he was struggling a bit to settle on a specific shape for very long, unable to make up his mind.
âIt's okay, you can stay an orb if you want! There's no rush!â you hurry to say, though he doesn't appear to acknowledge you. The red light strains and struggles, forming Dave's face before flickering and distorting grotesquely enough that you're taken aback. He keeps coming back to his own face, but between flashes of it are things you don't recognize. Monstrous half formed things, faces that belong to people you've never met, and even several times faces you recognized. You could have sworn you saw Jade in there a few times, and Roxy. You saw your own face once or twice before it ripped itself apart to bone and reformed as malleable as clay in the vapor.
â...Dave?â you whisper. It's the face of Dave's brother that glances at you sharp as broken glass, mouth set in a thin line as his outer edges twitched and spasmed, only to once more break apart at the seams. He looked like he was melting, and it took effort not to panic. Something was definitely wrong, it was obvious to see, but WHAT was wrong. What specifically was wrong? What could even be done about it? You wet your lips and tried to think clearly as you could.
Be open. Be a good battery. Dave had gone through a lot of strain before coming home, maybe this reforming problem was linked to that? It had to take a lot of power to form a specific shape as opposed to just forming out of habit. You were trying to think of any reasonable explanation you could, despite the taste of bile rising in the back of your throat.
âDave,â you try again, keeping his attention this time. Maybe just act like business as usual? âI missed you so much. I'm sorry this happened, but.. you're here now! You're home! And I'm recovering, and everything can go back to normal now.â
A frown lit on Dave's ever changing face, but he seemed to be starting to decide on the features you were by now familiar with. His eyes were the things that stayed in place the most, barely there hints of lashes pale on a fairly normal shaped face. At least it wasn't splitting apart at the seams anymore.. His mouth still looked too big, too sharp, too inhuman, but it was progress. You gestured with your arms wide as if expecting a hug at any time to come your way, hoping against hope that maybe, just maybe, you'd get it to happen if you wished enough.
âI know things haven't been easy. And.. I understand if you're mad. Or scared. Or-â
Something was wrong. Words died on your lips as, finally, Dave's features went into the right order and appeared to hold steady yet the look in his eyes didn't change in the slightest. He looked at you as if looking through you, taking in the room as a whole as if he'd never seen it before in his life. If he was strong enough to form, why wasn't he talking to you at all? Or reaching for you?
â...Dave,â you try again, moving so your legs were over the edge of your mattress and one hand was reaching for your crutches. âDave. Say something. Anything. Or.. uh. Knock something over. I'm listening close as I can for you, I promise, but I'm not hearing anything. Am I just not trying hard enough or are you just not talking for some reason?â
The spirit was glancing at his hands now, wispy trails of paleness caught in reddish mist that faded in and out of view between fully formed mass and smoke. Even with a fully open link, it still took a lot of energy to do that. You weren't surprised to hear the fan of your laptop suddenly kick into high gear behind you, cooling the inner workings down as it drew more power than usual from the wall. He didn't seem interested in talking, or in doing much at all. Compared to the spirit you were used to, how Dave was acting now just gave you the creeps. He hovered gently off the ground, face grim and expressionless as a doomed man, resolute and lost. A thousand yard stare at nothing at all.
This was Dave, but it was the least Dave-like Dave you thought you'd ever seen. And considering how much you'd learned about him so recently and all the time you'd spent together so far, you considered yourself a pretty damn good gauge of Dave-ness. An unaccounted for lack of Dave-ness with no guidance on what had caused it. Could you soft reset ghosts? Turn it off and on again till the appearance stuck right.
No, wait, that was a stupid idea. Focus, John. You shook your head hard to clear the thought from your head to focus on the other thoughts instead, the ones that felt instinctively like they might help. After all, you'd shared a body before, two minds in one form. You'd had his voice in your head, in your ear, in your heart. Maybe he just needed that..? Needed a touch, a push, a rekindling to remember properly after the traumatic time apart like someone might take their shoes off and flop on a sofa to make a place feel like home again after a return from a too long vacation. You picked up a single crutch and forced yourself upright to your feet, leaning your weight to keep balanced before taking a lumbering step forward, one hand out beseechingly.
âDave. Come here for a second.â
He stared at you, through you again, then went back to looking at his hands as if they were foreign objects. Maybe they were. The thought chilled your blood, but you lumbered forward another careful step, nearly touching him. It would be okay. It'd be fine. You could do this.
Dave flinched when your hand went through him as if he'd not realized just how close you were. ...Wait, had he felt that? The contact had been chilly, vaguely electric, but welcome. Familiar. Just needed to keep contact up for it to be warm, right?
âCome on.. Here. Remember when we were at the aquarium?â you asked, pausing to grin at him. âWould yoooou... want to try that again? No cars this time. It was kind of fun in hindsight. Scary but interesting to back seat in my own body?â
Were you offering casual possession to an Not-Very-Dave-Like Dave? Yes. Yes you were. It felt important, the closest thing to a hug you could manage when all you craved was contact with someone who couldn't do the literal contact thing very well. Dave stared vacantly, but didn't seem like he was going to dart away anywhere, or at least attempt to given the limitations of the place he was still tethered to. A thought of taming timid woodland creatures crossed your mind as you held your hand out in offer, patient, quiet, smiling.
âCome on. Come closer. I've really missed you, I can see you, you can see me. I can't hear you and I'm dying for a chat.â
More staring. ...Okay, you weren't a very patient man in hindsight, but the attempt was still happening.
âDave. Come here,â you said again.
  More staring.
Well. Now or never. Acting quickly, you moved your crutch forward and lunged for the spirit in his red haze as if you were trying to bear hug him, forcing yourself to think as openly as you could. Welcoming as an open door, trying to recreate anything you could from the aquarium as you went right through him and lurched uncoordinatedly straight into your dresser drawers. Another hard wobble as you rebounded too hard in a panic of over-correcting and started to go backwards, passing through Dave a second time directly before starting to head for the floor.
Though you hadn't been able to see it, the first pass through Dave's body had had a definite effect, a small spark of reaction, memory, something familiar. He'd watched your graceless fumble as well as your rebound without really reacting much beyond observation, too busy trying to organize his own slowly waking thoughts to go further.
...Was he home? Where was this? He'd been somewhere else, right? This felt different, it looked different, there was no pink everywhere, no cat.. It felt familiar. Looked familiar. So did the person falling.
  Falling?
  Fuck, falling.
You were wide eyed and nearly to the floor when the hand extended your direction, and without a second thought you reached up to grab it. Foolish really, trying to grab the hand of a ghost. There was nothing there to really grab, nothing to hold on to or to use to stop the inevitable crash to the ground, but what could you say? When falling the urge to grab a hand was instinctive. Your hand felt like it was numb with cold before it suddenly surged hot, heat racing up your arm and down your spine, making your head swim. You were aware you were changing position and of the world changing place around you, but kept bracing for the impact on the back of your head.
  It never came.
You felt pressure on your elbows, forearms, and good knee instead. The brunt of the impact was taken in your healthy limbs, injured leg awkwardly elevated and hovering an inch or two above the ground before slowly lowering down.
...Wow. That was pretty cool! You'd never even thought of turning like that, it was kind of like a stunt man's moves or something out of a movie. Most importantly, however, you hadn't bashed the back of your head in like a total idiot who'd tried to hug a ghost! Just needed to get up then.
  âŚ
  Just. Needed to get up.
  âŚ
Preferably with the moving and the getting up actions actually happening instead of just waiting. You tried again, but failed to move out of the weight bearing stance that had successfully broken your fall. Nothing felt heavy or really out of place. More like it felt like your joints were a glimpse of what life was like as the Tin Man after being left out in the rain too long, immobilized. You could feel your glasses starting to slide off your nose towards the ground but couldn't catch and readjust them. They slowly slipped bit by bit off your face before thumping to the ground, leaving your vision blurry and soft.
  ...John?
  âDave?â
Well, at least talking was happening. You were grateful your mouth could move, but the talking wasn't very soothing in the face of suddenly being an immobilized statue on the floor.
âDave, did. ..Wait, Dave, you're talking now! Where are you at, I can hear you really clearly now!â you realized, voice raising in pitch a bit as the excitement built. Shit, it'd been way too long since you last heard his voice, you hadn't really realized how great it would be to hear him again.
  JOHN
âYes, I can hear you! Dave, come down where I can see you, I can't move, I can't see shit at all.â
  ...Wait.
â...Dave are you why I can't move. Where are you at. I can't see shit,â you repeated, âlet me see where you are.â
John John John John John John John
âDave, I'm happy to hear you too but like. Seriously, did you do this?â Had to be. In hindsight there was no way you'd be able to do a cool mid-movement flip like that to avoid damaging yourself in a fall. You were not nearly that coordinated. You felt warmth blossom in your chest and down your spine again, down either leg. You could wiggle your toes for a moment before the statue effect was in place once more.
JOHN JOHN JOHN JOHN JOHN JOHN JOHN HOME JOHN HOME SAFE JOHN HOME
âDave. Dave. Let me stand up! I'm gonna get a cramp! Do whatever you were doing a second ago, I could kinda move for a moment there! You can talk and yell at me all you want but just. Can we go to the bed again? I don't want my leg to hurt.â
The excited thrumming focused in your chest like a steady bouncing, or like one of those wacky weasel toys that wiggled the ferret on the motorized ball in random directions. You could still hear his voice as if it were getting further and further away before realizing the warmth was focusing centrally before trying to expand outward to each limb at the same time. This was very different from the experience at the aquarium but.. it wasn't bad by any stretch of the imagination. It was kind of comforting actually, especially once you started to realize where things were and could hone in on where Dave was. It had forced you to stop acting automatically and to instead focus inwards at an acute angle that got rid of the borders around your body and the world around you.
Once again, your body housed two hearts for even a brief moment and you couldn't quite explain just how complete it actually made you feel compared to normal. Not too full but comfortable. Safer. ...Were you missing something, to feel this way? Or was it just a sign of you having a better capacity to work with others?
  Or was it just Dave?
The warmth ran all the way to your fingertips, coursing through your veins and muscles till you could feel your arms wobble and then go limp. You face planted solidly against your glasses, mashing your nose into the frames hard enough that for a second you were scared you'd break them, pushing back up onto your hands with a sharp gasp. Okay. There was the movement again, but the warmth wasn't dissipating. You could still feel it in your chest, bouncing from side to side and up and down, spinning in circles as your own name was chanted in your ears excitedly.
JOHN John John JOHN home safe homehomehomesafejohn JOHN SAFE HOME JOHN JOHN JOHNJOHNJOHN!
You pushed upright to sit flat on your ass and picked up your glasses, taking a moment to rub them clean with the bottom edge of your shirt before putting them back into place. The room returned to crisp, clear outlines and familiar shapes. The pendant was all but burning at your neck, and you realized your lips were curled into a smile that was broad enough it made your cheeks hurt. You were.. happy. Absolutely happy. Whatever had happened between you and Dave, it had fixed the problem before it truly could get started and restored the world to its rightful state of reunion. This was what you'd missed last night when your worry hung in your mind as tangible as spoiled milk.
âI missed you, Dave,â you whispered, and hugged yourself as tightly as you could. The warmth stopped bouncing around to hold perfectly still for a moment before surging into both of your arms. You realized you couldn't move them again, both hands locked firmly to your upper arms before they began to make rubbing motions, not quite numb but not quite usable. You may have hugged yourself, but you didn't exactly expect 'yourself' to hug you back.
âCould you feel that too, Dave? Is that why you're doing this?â
This was unexplored territory, and held plenty of implications you were sure, but in the moment you didn't give a fuck. That fulfilled sensation, the warmth, the foreign feeling of your own hands on your arms that steadily trailed up towards your throat and then your own face as if they were the hands of another? All of it was new and all of it was just memories for the making and taking. You were getting to hug Dave in a flesh and blood way, even if it were only for the moment, and nothing could ever take that away from you. Nobody could claim it was impossible.
  ... John..
Were you. ..Were you crying? You weren't crying, were you? You were. You could feel hot trails on your face that cooled quickly, and the warmth in your chest was soon joined by a clenching that released in a huffed sob. It was relief, you told yourself. The full relief of everything being okay and returning to normal, of nothing being wrong finally, of questions being answered and of that all but overwhelming sensation of not being alone anymore in your own skin.
Your right hand lifted to rub your nose as you snorted in an ungainly way to clear your nose. Your left hand, outside of your control, carefully rubbed some of the water from your eyes with its fingertips.
  ...Don't cry...
âDon't tell me what to do,â you snuffed. âI'll cry if I feel like it, do you have any idea how scared I was that you were gone forever? And then I get you back and you-! And. And you acted like you weren't really there even when you were in front of me and now everything's just. Everything's okay! Everything's okay now!â
  ...Still crying...
âShut up and let me have this,â you mumbled. Though the one hand stayed near your face, the arm you were able to move went to hug tight around your rib cage again, trying to hold everything together in case it somehow fell apart or flew away to the breeze. âLet me have this.. Let me have you,â you murmured.
The tension in your chest lifted and the warmth returned to your limbs, trying to spread to all four at once before it ricocheted around your rib cage again and went straight to your head. You didn't mind the dizziness or the slight ring in your ears, so long as you got to hug it out just a little bit longer.
âStay with me like this. Even just a while longer, Dave. ..Please.â
The warmth stayed, solid and still as stone. You had a feeling it wouldn't be going anywhere any time soon and were grateful. You'd tell the good news to everyone else soon enough. For the time being, though, this happiness was all yours.

OFFAL HUNT REMASTER LIVEBLOG // CHAPTER 9
oh goody!
well this is it. the Date Chapter. the chapter, in which, the Date happens. lowkey im so fucking hype for this stupid goddamn chapter AAAAAAAAAAAA this is when the sexy got kicked up about seven notches and i know its gonna be a fucking twenty from here on out so LETS GO LESBIANS LETS GO
âIs this your date, Ms. Fall?â he asked.
Cinder didnât look away from Glynda. âMhm.â
STRAIGHT OUT OF THE GODDAMN GATE WE DIDNâT EVEN HAVE A SECOND TO EVEN GATHER OURSELVES JUST STRAIGHT UP HUH!!!!!!!!! âis this your dateâ im legally dead
What the fuck.
already im fucking THRIVING im so glad this chapterâs mood got encapsulated within the first ten seconds and im definitely gonna have to re-read this chapter for the full unannotated experience OOOOOOOOOH MY GOD IM SO READY
Glyndaâs thoughts ricocheted inside her head like coins left in a dryer. A part of her couldnât understand what was happening and disengaged. The rest of her, grasping for purchase in all this, reasoned that going with Cinder was better than staying here confused, alone, and utterly displaced.
glynda âi aint ever had a gf beforeâ goodwitch at her PEAK right here. like GOD shes gone from âcinderâs trying to murder meâ to âcinder just plopped me right into a dateâ like CINDER. CINDER YR CHANGING GEARS SO FAST. YOU DIDNT EVEN SEND FLOWERS OR ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
is it because shes a u-haul lesbian or
Higher, Glynda realized the dress itself was backless, revealing the black tattoo sheâd seen so often before, perfectly centered between sharp shoulder blades.
this gay energy is BONKERS, quite frankly??????? where did cinder get her dress from? why does she have it? did she buy it just for this fuckery? or will she pull the âi just had a this lil number laying aroundâ line????????? does she wanna seduce glynda to death?????? was this PLANNED OR DID SHE JUST DECIDE SHE WANTED A DATE AND WTH LIFE REALLY IS SHORT ON REMNANT THESE DAYS?????????? cinder fall please explain your workings to the class
maybe Glynda wasnât the only one whoâd become adept at reading her opponent.
đ when đ will đ they đ kiss đ already đđđđ
me: this is a slowburn also me: if u assholes dont give me this in the next ten seconds-
âUnarmed? As if you could be so helpless.â
cinderâs style of flirting is just. commentating on a personâs deadliness. thatâs IT itâs the only TRICK SHE HAS and its working, is the thing,
im reading the description of the table and remembering the shitpost and oh my god i have to draw this???? hell IS real!!!!!! COULDNT YALL JUST TOSS EM IN A PLAIN BOX,
Cinder eyed her from her bastion of dark cushions,
cinder, ass-deep in cushions: this is peak cuddle territory come and join me
Cinder, for her part, seemed delighted Glynda had noticed. Touching the pendant more gently than Glynda might have ever thought her capable of, Cinder said, Â âYours? You didnât seem to mind parting with it.â
im still deeply enjoying this powermove the novelty NEVER wears off (and at risk of light spoilers i do enjoy its place in this story đ)
Cinder let the necklace drop, settling against the swell of her bust once more,
/lightly coughs đđđ
im losing my MIND at how gay this bit is i physically cannot HANDLE IT and if they even describe the meal once im gonna pop off cause i am. SO HUNGRY RN. AAAAAAAAAAAA
Cinder indicated a dish of lamb and vegetables, served on a bed of rice and drizzled in some sort of sauce.
SRY THIS ISNT GAY BUT OH MY GOD IM SO HUNGRY I WANNA E A T I T THAT SOUNDS SO GOOD UGHGHGHGHGHGH WHY DID THIS CHAPTER HAVE TO BE TODAY OF ALL THE DAYS,
Glynda cleared her throat, working out: âThe Grimm.â
like. GOD WE KNOW GLYNDA IS JUST SO FUNCTIONALLY BAD AT CONVERSATION BUT OF ALL THE THINGS glynda please just. just. stop thinking abt her sexy tattoos for a fifth of a second,
âYou can control them.â A sedate blink. For all the world, Glynda might have just commented on the weather.
which is a faux pas for a date!!!!!!!!!!! at least tell her the DRESS IS SEXY WE ALL KNO WHATS WHAT YR THINKIN ABT
Glancing down as though it were being pointed out to her for the first time, Cinder shrugged and adjusted the end of the glove a little higher on her bicep. âAnd?âÂ
a quick aside im enjoying how like... visually expressive cinder is in this remaster! i can see her facial expressions and her motions really clearly in my mindâs eye which is a fun little boon if only because i have to redraw this nonsense hjsgdfjhfksgd but cinderâs got a Good Face this time around! A QUALITY FACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You should know by now, thereâs something about you thatâs simply irresistible to Grimm.â
HERE COMES THE PLOT (and a single surviving line so far... this one sentence has survived all the world could throw at it... we stan)
Cinder straightened, and Glynda saw that this was what sheâd been waiting for.
âIt isnât every day the great Glynda Goodwitch kneels before her adversary, is it?â
HELLO??????????????????????????? WHATS THIS WORDING????????? honestly tho for a second i thought she meant like. quite literally and i thought id missed some PROPER SHIT RIGHT THERE BUT YEAH WTH!!!!!!! C I N D E R
âYou cheated. You canât beat me on your own.â
yes glynda we gathered that yr a top
âReally, Glynda? Poison?â she sneered, something like offense simmering in her expression. âAfter all this?â
looks at the camera
anyway,
god im literally losing grasp of words to say because theres such a charged mood in this scene............. theyre brushing fingers............ trading jabs.......... im slurpin it up babey!!!!!!!! this rly is the BEST remaster of this whole scene it DESERVES this wordcount!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
âBeat you,â Cinder corrected. âAnd call it a point of pride.â
yes cinder we gathered yr a brat,
this dynamic is why this fic is so fuckign good when will winter have a swift return to add even more fuckery to this wild ride
Then, with a heavy-lidded look, Cinder found Glyndaâs hand between them, the touch so sudden and daring that Glynda flinched. The fabric of those gloves was smooth against Glyndaâs flesh, and for all that cruelty had marked every other instance of contact between them, Cinder was surprisingly gentle.
whomp there go my nuts
WHAT IS THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHO MADE THE EXECUTIVE CHOICE TO ADD THIS LINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HELLO???????????? im losing my BRAINCELLS
What she wasnât ready for was for Cinder to guide her hand to her own throat and hold it there.
THERE IS IT THEREâS THE KINK ITâS BEEN SPOTTED
oh my GOD what even IS THIS WHO ADDED THIS SECTION WHO ALLOWED THIS TO COME TO P A S S WHAT THE FUCK EVEN IS RN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HELLO????????? HEWWO??????????
Now⌠Now Cinder interested her.
tbh how can i liveblog this? what commentary can i POSSIBLY add that we arent already all THINKING. we just launched into a level of hell so deep that lucifers gonna have to pull some goddamn tricks to follow us down here!!!!!!!!!! WHAT IS THIS SCENE! THIS MOMENT! IM SCREAMING
Glynda mirrored the expression back at him, and finally, he coughed, not making strong eye contact with either of them. He set their plate before them and hurried out without so much as a check-in.
i just KNEW that was gonna happen JHGDSFGJHKSDF he was gonna walk in on SMTHNG but i didnt think itd be CINDERâS CHOKING KINK,
okay i took a break and ate my weight in roast chicken and weâre back babey
Almost nervously, her fingers carded through her own dark hair, and there, among the locks, Glynda spotted a glimpse of something white, structured and ridged.
AND I AM INSTANTLY KNOCKED BACK UPON MY ASS đWđHđ¨AđTđ
It was easier to ignore the rest of itâwhatever it was.
glynda you are a fool and a moron im withering into DUST
On no level had she expected those to be Glyndaâs words.
then what... did she expect... well probably -- and rightly so --Â âbitch WHAT ARE THOSEâ TBH
wait sorry i have to jump back because i forgot customary fingerguns on the most brazen bit of Shit yet:
Cinder was occupying herself with something else: the head of a dragon, perched over the door and staring down at the two of them with red, glossy eyes.
đđđđđđđ
okay BACK TO THE FIC
Fangs snapped together around the word.
aka back to me horni
/chanting TEETH! TEETH! TE
okay but the reason i doubled back to catch that fingergun is because weâre getting ass-deep into plot now!!!!!!!!!!! WITCHES AND DRAGONS BABEY......... HEREâS WHAT OFFAL HUNT IS ALL ABT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i cant rly drop more fingerguns than that because any astute reader will start realising the dots im shouting abt and honestly half the fun of this fic is the ride so >:3c
âFunny. I was sure he would have told you.â
that blow was so low i think cinder hit the concrete with that one
oh god theyre gonna get to the bit and i-
âIs that what all of this has been about? You called me here to remind me that I'm autistic?â
/SCREAMS
The words were delivered firmly, calmly, but Cinderâs response was the opposite, sudden upheaval seizing her. Her expression opened in something akin to panic. âWhâno? What? No! That's not what Iââ
/SCREAMS
oh my GOD CINDER YOU HAVE FUCKED UP LEGENDARILY!!!!!!!!!! OH MY GOD SHE WAS FELL ASS-FIRST ONTO A LANDMINE OH MY GOD
offal hunt v1 cinder: im totally in control and im playing glynda every step of the way
offal hunt v2 cinder: OH JESUS OH FUCK OH NO THATâS NOT WHAT I MEANT-
Cinder seemed genuinely stressed now, speaking quicker as though trying to bury the last sixty seconds.
i knew this remaster would have sections that would blow me away but this bit really took the fcuking cake DGHSJFSJHFDG holy SHIT this is AMAZING
It was difficult to tell in the low light, but if Glynda wasn't mistaken, there was a bright flush of embarrassment coloring Cinderâs cheeks.
this is SUCH prime content hey remember in one of the early liveblogs that cinder would descend into full dork? WELL THE DESCENT CAME EARLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! /pops bottles
âCinder.â There was a very real line of threat in Glyndaâs tone. âDonât.â
oh this whole scene just keeps getting better i am LOVING this dynamic now!!!!!!! before it was all pretty one-sided so having the conversation rock back and forth is đđđ
That Witch soul of yoursâit was designed to void out everything but the prey before you. To be numb to all human emotion. To focus on the hunt and nothing else.
finally the fruit of 50% of my fingerguns COMES TO LIGHT!!!!!!!!!!! PLOT PLOT PLOT
âThis is bullshit.â Jabbing an accusing finger at Cinder, Glynda said, âYouâre a liar. Youâre a criminal!â
i LOVE glyndas pottymouth in this its such a good like... change from her being strict and formal and teachery and now shes full on gremlin huntress hell YES BABY!!!!!!!!!! GO OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
âThereâs all kinds of things I bet he never told you.â Cinder continued. âDid you know he was close to your predecessor? The Witch who came before youâthey were inseparable.â
SRY IM LIKE STRUGGLIN TO COMMENTATE because so much of this like. speaking as an Old-Ass Reader this is like. a LOT! A LOT HAS CHANGED and yet,,,, stayed the same,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, yall kids WILL NEVER KNOW WHAT IT WAS LIKE TO HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL CHAPTER LIKE................ 15 FOR THIS SHIT (but like. chapter 15 was different because this chapter used to be like chapter 7? so now everythings moved along so chapter 15 doesnt sound that impressive but trust me it was a different fic back then)
When they fell away, burnt and ruined, she could see Cinderâs bare arms for the first time. The red lines drawn across her skin sloped down the entire length of her arms, circling her elbows, carved into her wrists. They ended right at her hands, ensuring any long-sleeved garment would hide them. Every covered inch of her was filled like a canvas, like abstract art.
lets pause the fight scene for glynda to be gay!!!!! god im. okay look i said this earlier but im so glad we have more cinder like this tbh. the first version was rly lacking w/ cinder content until late-game when the plot sorta. got itself going? but now weâre eye-deep in this content i LOVE cinder i love this WEIRDO who is a HUGE LOSER and IDIOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IM LOVE HER SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And Glynda could not dispel the fear that she had been telling the truth.
and after committing Some Amount In Damages, weâre at the end of the chapter!
okay so i really enjoyed this version SO MUCH MORE. everything abt it was polished and worked together so much better and it really needed the space to breathe in its own chapter. its been horny, gay, intense, hilarious, and way more in one chapter and its SO good this really is PEAK offal hunt!!!!!!!!!!!! good job diesel and kc but im still going to murder you both,

BRANDON ARREAGA â Well, if it isnât JAMES POTTER, the GRYFFINDOR superstar. For those of you who donât know HIM, you can spot them sitting with the other SEVENTH years. Most people think that theyâre CHARMING and INCISIVE, but they can also seem pretty DEPENDENT and INEXORABLE. Sometimes people call them the SHEPHERD. Sure, theyâre a PUREBLOOD, but that doesnât define them.Â
i literally have 0 explanation for why i did this other than iâm in love with him. but also, heâs a mess, so jot that down. if you wanna know more about him ( protip: donât ) then i recommend checking out his pinterest and then i dunno.... contemplate why iâm a punk ass bitch, i guess. enjoy this mess. plot with me. ily.
james henry potter ( named for two his two grandfathers, maternal and paternal respectively ) was born on april 4th, 1960 to two of the most loving parents a child could have.
fleamont and euphemia had been trying for a child for years. theyâd been together for basically all of time, having been that typical good-looking, well liked couple in hogwarts that everyone always just assumes will get married ( spoiler alert: they did ), however had had to postpone kids due to fleamontâs brief stint as a professional quidditch player for eight years following their graduation. after that, they would try every month for a child, and after many years of disappointment, eventually gave up. it was during this time that fleamont developed the sleekeazy hair potion which only added to their immense wealth.Â
finally at age forty-one, they were surprised with the arrival of james. obviously, they saw him as their miracle child, and as such he was pampered and completely spoiled from the moment he was born.
i cannot stress enough how much this spoiled upbringing shaped james into the person he is today. if youâre wondering why he was ever an arrogant prick, itâs because he was always used to getting absolutely everything he ever wanted. he grew up with money, he grew up with fame and with every bit of attention he could garner, and so it was really no wonder he was a bit of an asshole by the time he started at hogwarts.
obviously, james had a pretty cushy childhood, and as such, shit didnât start getting real until he started at hogwarts.Â
it took all of three seconds for the hat to sort him into gryffindor, and i guess you could say he pretty much considered himself to be the gem of the house. he was the absolute epitome of a gryffindor, basically considered him the poster boy and all but expected everyone to love him.
really did not help his ego to know that everyone did.
in typical sterotype-gryffindor fashion, james hated slytherin. he had always been taught growing up that purists were basically the root of all evil, and his father had had no qualms in lumping all these people in with the house of the snakes. james and his friends took a particular disliking to severus snape almost immediately for the poncy way in which he seemed to believe he was superior to all for his intelligence and his house status, and this dislike only grew when lily evans was tossed into the mix, too.
for basically the first four or five years of hogwarts, james really was that stereotypical arrogant asshole that heâs often made out to be. he always got everything he asked for, he was incredibly popular and incredibly intelligent, he had the most amazing friends and his eyes on the most amazing girl. he was set!! shit was good!!
shit was not good, though. definitely was not.Â
despite having known of remusâ furry little problem since second year, things didnât really start to settle in james how awful it was until third or fourth year. he hated seeing his friend in pain, he hated that he couldnât help, and so he rallied the boys to put into action their worst plan yet!!!!
becoming animagi!!!!!!
it took fucking forever, obviously, but by the end of fourth year they did it!! we stan icons
except then in fifth year shit hit the fan again in just, like... so many ways
first, it was the whole severus âmudbloodâ situation. honestly, james was absolutely furious. heâd always hated snape but this just made everything 1000 times worse. even if it had happened to anyone else, he would have been fuming. but for it to have happened to lily like... yikes.Â
this was also a horrible time for james though because lily rejected him for the thousandth time. like, look, what a yikes thing to think when she was just called a mudblood, but frankly he was sick of being rejected and he was sick of being the asshole who kept pressuring her so that was the breaking point --- he gave up on her.Â
and tbh, he changed a lot from here on out. grew up!! became a better person bc he saw how horrible snap was and decided he was sick of horrible people!! saw, recognised and acknowledged that just bc he was hot and intelligent and rich he wasnât always going to get everything he wanted ( see: miss evans ) and just generally learned that oh shit the world doesnât revolve around him!!!
oh and then there was that whole thing with sirius and snape and Remus the Werewolf and ohhhh boyyyy.... that infuriated him.Â
he loves his bros so much and yâall know he would die for them, but to see his friend abuse remusâ pain and suffering for his own gain was heart wrenching. it just pushed him further to pull him in line, to realise that not everything was about games, or petty rivalry, or â getting the girl â --- life heartache and mistakes and it was never going to go the way he wanted it to.
now look, this isnât all to say that james is now a Super Strict, Super Intense, Brooding Weirdo. heâs still a bit of a child, and heâs still a bit of an arrogant prick, but ultimately what wins out is his morals --- every time. he wants to lead the world to a better place, without war and without hate, he wants everyone to have the same opportunities he had as a kid and he wants nothing more than for blood purity to be eradicated.
get that shit outta my house!!! gross!!!!!!
now in his final year, james is always flipping between taking his role as head boy deadly serious and turning it into one big game of mischief. heâs still a marauder at heart, after all, and has definitely abused his power sometimes for the benefit of fun and games, but when it comes down to it, he can be very strict and lowkey paternal. the leader really just.... popped right outta him, it came to play and it came hard, and really youâd think heâs minister for magic with how serious he treats it sometimes.
i hate him.
heâs a lot less intense with his hatred for slytherinâs. he has come to recognise that not everyone from that lifestyle is going to be the same, not everyone who grew up a certain way or was sorted into a certain house is going to think with a deadly mind, and while heâs still a bit wary, heâs a lot more relaxed about it, especially as head boy ( gotta at least pretend shitâs fair !!! )
ok iâm so tired this is abt to turn into a rambling messÂ
uHhhHHh heâs very dependent as in like... boi cannot go a week without his friends. he is used to having people to bounce off, thatâs always the type of leader he has been, and as much as he would probably be amazing at anything on his own, heâs never really tried. too scared!! i hate him!!!!!
super unforgiving. like, if you have gotten on his bad side.... iâm sorry. it is going to be very difficult to return from there. his moral compass is pretty black and white, youâre either good or your bad, and if youâve done something he considers bad wELL sucks to be you, i guess. sorry not sorry.
takes his quidditch very seriously tbh. so many people have told him he needs to be a pro like his dad, but heâs like haha fuck you i know what i wanna do ( hint hint: he wants to rule that goddamn auror office, make that shit far more efficient then he thinks it is now ). but srsly, heâs so intense abt the game and it really like... idk gets him in the zone, keeps him level-headed in amongst all this chaos.Â
i donât know what im saying anymore pls send help
uhhhhh heâs smart. i guess. straight aâs and shit idk. just very naturally intelligent, finds everything he does easy, like.. really is that asshole who is just good at everything he does.
iâve run out of things to say, pls just love him
WANTED CONNECTIONS
girlfriend: i hate to expose myself as a whole ass jily stan but... here i am i guess. but also, listen: he really thinks heâs over her right now. like, he truly believes his days of pestering lily evans are behind him. it was just a crush! itâs gone! ( spoiler alert: itâs not ) BUT he is so convinced that he has got himself into this relationship which is really just... a mess. like highkey itâs obvious he could never fully love her bc his Heart Belongs to Lily or whatever but he does care for her deeply and has tricked himself into believing itâs love. itâs hard, man. heâs confused. send help.
ex-girlfriend(s): more of above but like... less intense? or more intense! who knows, frankly.
childhood friend(s): iâd die for childhood friends. jake/gina dynamic? iconic. just anything, really.
odd friend: ok like... as i mentioned, heâs still kinda wary of slytherins and ppl who grew up in purist culture, but i would love love love to see someone who was one of the first to show him that not all those people are so bad. like someone from a purist family or the like who was just chill and friendly and actually befriended this asshole even when he was... well, an asshole. itâd be fun, ig. also if they eventually do end up recruited for the deâs bc of family stuff or whatever... bonus points.
rivals: iâm tired. you understand.
#novum:intro#you guys this is... such a mess#im gunna regret posting this in the morning#oh well!!#here we are ig!!!!!!

Simplify - an Eris Fic
For @nimadge
Thank you for being amazing and even more so thanks for giving me a bright spot during all the hectic busy-ness of moving <3
I loved getting to cover this prompt. I hope you enjoy how it all came together. I know you just had all your exams, so I wanted to make sure it wasnât just 100% studying anxiety all over again ^^Â Â
How about Eric and Tris, relationship OR good working relationship with the possibility of more at least; she sees HIM studying something for once (for qualification exam or smth) and can help? Â How would that go?
Made me think abt how Eric would take help/how harsh he is on himself, that sort of thing. We never see him learning anything, after all
Simplify
âDo you need anything?â
Such a simple question. I looked up from my piles of notes and the guide book I was currently attempting to force into perfect recall. Seeing Tris there, a small smile tucked behind her lips, tempered the irritation that had been building all afternoon. There was a lot there bubbling under the surface.
âI know you work best alone, but if you need anything - a drink, something from the caf - just let me know,â she said.
I did my best to wrangle my expression into a smile. Her offer made it easy. It was well past the end of her shift. Tris didnât need to be hanging around Leadership on her off hours. It meant all the more to me that she had.
âThanks,â I replied simply.
Tris kissed her fingertips, pressing the two of them to my nameplate on the door. âIâm down the hall with Kyle,â she said before departing.
I felt my face fall as she turned and walked away. There was nothing Iâd like more than to have gotten up and followed her. Instead, I sighed and flipped to the next blank page to take more notes. Committing to memory the new SOPs for calls had been easier than this drivel.
Qualifications - or quals - were the bane of my existence. And as Leader I was expected to stay ahead of as many of them as I could. At least we got to spread them out between Leaders. Between us, we had to understand what the Faction was capable of.
Sharp shooting and marksmanship quals were a favorite of mine and many of my fellows. They were straightforward; a combination of muscle memory and specific math formulas let you pass with flying colors usually. Iâd been happy with the other quals Iâd passed over the past two years.
Then the dust-up in Leadership had changed things. Not to speak ill of the very necessary changes that took place, it was a total pain in the ass to have to cover for the things that Max and the others had learned over the years. Iâd fought tooth and nail to remain in place, accepting as earnestly as possible my culpability for letting⌠everything happen without question. That meant not complaining about covering two quals at once.
So, here I was in my office trying to convince my tired brain that learning every in and out of neurochemistry was a reasonable use of my time and efforts. Iâd avoided the quals for fear testing initially because dammit Iâd left Erudite to get away from reading academic texts.
Fate has a funny way of ignoring what we want in life.
I ran my hands through my hair and flipped to the next chapter. There were still a few more hours until I had time to sleep.
Every time that I blinked now I could swear I saw the diagrams from my notes on the insides of my eyelids. Fuck, that would have made things a lot easier if they were there. Instead I stared at the practice test question in front of me and fumed.
Describe the basic concepts behind the signals used to target the amygdala.
My pen tapped a staccato rhythm on my knee. I wanted to snap it in half. This was the first long form answer I was expected to answer. I had known it was going to come up.
The amygdala was only part of the brain triggered by the fear serum. There was also the thalamus and⌠and⌠Well, there were more. More that didnât matter for this question. But all I could think about now was the damn sensory thalamus. Emotional stimulus - that was the first part of the series of triggers in the process - leading to further systemic triggers.
âThatâs what itâs fucking asking, you idiot,â I growled to myself. âWhat are those triggers in the fuckinâ amygdala.â Still, no matter how long I stared at my measly four word reply, the less I could recall about the process. It didnât matter how the synaptic sequence depended on a particular balance of ion channels, either, but that was what my mind decided to offer up next.
The process begins with
The process begins with
The process begins with- with what?
I flipped back to the earlier questions. I had more âreturn to answerâ arrows on each page than Iâd remembered making. On the question asking to order the sequence of signals used by the serum Iâd only marked off the first and last steps. Blank spaces stared at me unhelpfully, offering no insight into whether or not it was a neurotransmitter dump or an artificial channel blocker that could have been used in the amygdala.
My pen went across the room. This was absolutely ridiculous.
Next to me, Tris finally stirred. She screwed up her eyes against the light from my side lamp, but she sat up. âYouâre still taking that thing?â she murmured. âWhat time is it?â
âLate,â I said. I ignored her first question; Iâd blown way past my initial expectation of how long this stupid practice test was going to take.
She rubbed at her eyes and leaned heavily on the headboard. âYou need to take a break,â Tris said simply.
I looked down at all the little black arrows on the pages and those stupid, stupid four words with nothing after them. âI canât. Iâm not done yet,â I replied.
âItâs- that canât be right. Itâs four am?â she said. Sheâd caught a glimpse of the alarm clock down by the foot of the bed. It was there so we couldnât just slam the snooze button without moving. Iâd been selectively ignoring it all evening. Well, morning now.
I sighed. Tris shifted again next to me, returning to rest her head on the pillow. She still faced me now. One hand emerged from the blanket again so she could run the side of her finger down my arm. She could only reach so far before starting back down again.
âYouâre going to be exhausted,â Tris murmured. âCan you ask Lauren for her answers from this one? To study from?â
âMm. Maybe.â Lauren had passed this qual the winter after her Initiation. Sheâd only had a few weeks to study for it. Had only needed a few weeks to. Iâd been working on this every god damn night and weekend for the past three months.
And I still couldnât answer a fucking obvious, critical question.
âHey, hey,â Tris said. I looked down at my hands. Iâd crumpled the pages in front of me between white knuckled fists. Trisâ hand wrapped around my wrist. It was the best she could manage from her angle. âItâs going to be alright,â she insisted.
âIt will be when this is over,â I hissed. âIf I pass.â Good fucking god, there were only three days left. Two nights of studying, really. Iâd only have a few hours on the morning of to try and force any more info into recall.
I laughed bitterly. âI might not pass,â I repeated. âWouldnât that be rich? Paid so much attention to the fear sims, and I canât explain them worth a damn for these stupid quals. Fear is what gets you kicked out of Dauntless. Never thought thatâd be me, but here we are.â
Tris threw the blanket off. It took most of my papers with it, crumpled pages spilling everywhere at the foot of the bed. She sat up fully. Forced me to look at her instead.
âEric,â she said, âwhat would you tell me if I was doing this?â
It wouldnât work. I crossed my arms over my chest and scoffed. âUsually your problem is that youâre overreacting. And Iâm not,â I insisted.
âBullshit,â Tris retorted. I scoffed again. She wasnât the one unable to answer a goddamn multiple choice question on what should have been a mid-level biology question.
She mirrored my crossed arms. âBull. Shit. Youâre overreacting and stressing about not knowing shit. So youâre just getting more and more stressed as you get more and more stuff not quite right,â she said.
âNot quite right is wrong. And wrong means failing quals,â I spat.
I donât know if she heard the nerves in my voice then or if she just had to think another minute for a new plan of attack, but after a moment she said, âYou have two more full days.â
Two days. My stomach flipped and I snapped my eyes shut. âDonât remind me.â
She didnât quit. âYou have two more full days,â Tris insisted. âThatâs plenty of time. Youâve got the core information down; you have to by now after all this cramming and all these weekends buried in that book. Itâs just perfecting recall.â
I made a noise. I felt her prodding at my knees until I relented and stretched my legs back out on the mattress. Tris dropped onto my lap with all the grace of a newborn foal - all legs and flailing hooves, sorry, palms. I opened one eye as she wrapped her arms loosely around my neck.
âIâm not moving these,â I muttered, wiggling one arm.
âSure youâre not,â she replied. Resting her forehead on mine, she forced me to look at her.
Her voice got soft. âI know youâre stressed. And youâve every right to be worried about the test. Theyâre fucking hard,â she said. I almost laughed. Almost.
Tris continued on. One of her thumbs stroked along the skin of my neck. âBut Iâm here to tell you: youâre going to be okay. Itâs all going to be fine. Two days is plenty of time. I know it will be,â she said quietly.
I closed my eyes again. Nodding my head, I hummed in acknowledgement. âMkay,â I said. I pressed a kiss to her lips. Saying thank you seemed like not enough. I did it anyways.
âYou donât need to thank me. Like I said, if you need anything you just have to ask me,â she murmured. We shifted together and she moved to lay on top of me. I had to kick to get the blanket back up to us. That sleepy smile returned to her face when I pulled it over her shoulders again.
I looked one last time at the pages still down by my feet. Tris poked my side, reading my mind. âTurn off the light,â she grunted. âSleep now. Study later.â
Kissing the top of her head, I clicked the lamp off. She snuggled tighter to my chest.
Itâs the simple things.
