Okay now bringing our ask comment convo into its own ask 😅
It's silly for me to nurture Gersha-hater feelings NOW, when Gersha is being so wonderful in this most pivotal of moments in Oslov Unraveled (fine, fine, I guess that guy's proven himself 😒😅).
But you're right! Gersha was SO prying & pitying in ASB confronting Tilrey with his IntSec transcript, completely unlike Bror ever was. In fact, as you said, Bror had always quickly seen Tilrey for exactly who he was at any given moment yet carefully, thoughtfully, purposefully never pried nor pushed him. Whether to talk or act (like when he frustradedly wishes Tilrey would yank Ansha's hand away).
Anyway, ugh, just making me so mad at Gersha in that hot tub again. He'd unfairly created the IntSec situation in the first place that painfully pried all those thoughts & facts & feelings out of Tilrey's head, then definitely completely violated him by reading them all (despite not knowing what he was about to read) lightyears ahead of when Tilrey *ever* would've felt comfortable to discuss any of that with him.
Even with Bror, whom Tilrey himself says he told things he'd never told anyone, Tilrey still had the freedom to hold back things he felt shame about -- but Gersha ripped that freedom away from him. No survivor should be forced in that way 😢💔
For ex. right now in AKoB, feeling disgusting that Linden beat him & not wanting to tell Bror, being so grateful Bror "magically" understood to order to cum (fingers crossed Tilrey never learns he has fuckin' Ansha to thank for that 😡). He hadn't been able to talk about Spring Fling until later when he needed Bror's help to understand what happened with Gourmanian, and finally says, "Do you know what happened to me?" 😢. By the time of their "date", he had already confided to Bror how he'd been tricked to come here, and clearly by ASB there are other convos they've had 😢❤️‍🩹
By the time of Ceill being born Gersha has become someone Tilrey can sometimes really open up his feelings to -- sobbing, "That's all I'm good for, a thing to be used" -- but goddamn getting so mad again at Gersha of ASB! He REALLY doesn't understand the power imbalance between them (he's the new Malsha, Veran, Linden to Tilrey!) and what it means to hold that power.
Wow, when you compare those moments, it really is clear how far Bror is ahead of Gersha in emotional intelligence when we meet them! Gersha is scared and insecure and inflicts that on everyone around him.
Then there’s the fact that Bror knows enough not to be shocked by Tilrey’s experiences—saddened, yes, but he does know this stuff can happen. While Gersha as a high Upstart is so oblivious-slash-naive that he can barely believe what he’s hearing and needs it confirmed over and over, which is painful for Tilrey. Tilrey is helping Gersha evolve as a person (who will eventually become truly understanding and supportive), but it’s at his own expense. 🥺
