We under value and take for granted artists as a society. I’m talking all artists…writers, actors, musicians, dancers, designers, painters, sculptors…the list is endless.
The commonality is that they all have either spent their time honing their skills through practice, lessons, education or all of the above. Artists dedicate their time and often their lives to their craft.
We are failing our artists. Symphony orchestras are failing across the US. Writers and actors are on strike. People involved in the fine arts are turning to independent sales. We need to shift our expectations.
We need creatives as a part of our society. What we don’t need is the expectation that artists should work for free or for a paltry income. Simply because an artist enjoys performing or creating doesn’t mean they should have to do so for nothing.
We also no longer live in an era where it is standard that the extremely wealthy build museums or libraries or fund performing arts groups. We live in an era of amassing extreme wealth for the minority of the population.
I get that profitability is important, but at what cost? Are we ok that artists can’t afford health insurance? Are we ok that artists are leaving our communities for other opportunities? Are we ok that companies are ready to use AI over humans for creative processes and performance?
I’m not ready for any of this. We will lose a significant part of our humanity by eliminating and discouraging the ability to thrive for artists. Change can be hard but change is what is needed.
We are experiencing the beginning of a labor revolution and it will not stop with our writers, actors, UPS drivers or Starbucks baristas. The peasants are fed up and the nobility needs to pay attention.
Support your local artists. Support independent artists. Support the striking unions and organizations. We can all play a part in creating a long lasting effective change.

Don't forget! Just because we got a trailer, that doesn't mean that the strike has stopped.
WGA and SAG-AFTRA are still on strike and negotiating to get the rights and benefits they deserve.
They are the people who built this show. Donate to help them continue to strike.

What sort of ignorant ass cannot see the mess AI can cause for creative world.
It's stealing, it was always stealing and a method to make more profit by higher ups while giving nothing to people who practically build it

Support the actor's rights. These lists are all the episodes she appeared in, in Orange is the New Black. You might remember how popular that show was? 27$ is exploitation.

I have to be honest guys, I am not so happy about these posters of the pjo series coming out, it feels like a huge marketing strategy to make people forget the strikes that are happening, perhaps i may be wrong, perhaps the wga and the sag have totally agreed with propaganda but still it feels weird specially after bob iger's comments and interview, because of that i don't feel comfortable sharing them, but I am extremely happy and excited about the show

Thoughts on what general audiences can do for the WGA and SAG strikes
I've read up a lot on the strike situation these past weeks because I'm someone who consumes A LOT OF media content. The strike will affect my daily life and I'm a curious girlie when it comes to show biz rules. So here are some of the takeaways I wanna share with my fellow audience:
1. Understand the strike
The strike is happening for 2 major reasons:
1.) The studios are refusing to pay the creators/actors residuals on streaming services.
This makes it hard for the majority of writers and actors to make a living by doing their respective jobs. They used to rely on residuals from old projects (DVD and blue-ray sales, renting, etc.) to pay bills. That's just not happening today.
To try to get out of paying residuals, the major studios started this trend this year to take old and new shows/movies off their streaming platforms and use them as an excuse for a tax write-off. Disney did this last month and got a 1.1 billion tax write-off. They can currently do that without consulting the people involved AT ALL, taking away their livelihood without warning.
2.) The studios want to retain the rights to use AI writing and performing.
In the negotiation with SAG, they proposed a plan to pay actors only one day's wage to use their AI image FOREVER without paying them ever again. And the actors wouldn't have a ground to argue that. This is straight out of Black Mirror Season 6 Joan is Awful. Netflix is really writing its own villain origin story right now.
So what would happen if the workers budge and give up mid-way?
They'll end up losing their means to survive and have their images stolen. So striking for a few months is definitely better than starving indefinitely.
What's happening right now?
Right now, no projects fiananced by AMTPT companies can film with SAG members or develop with WGA members, which means only a very small percentage of all Hollywood productions can still happen. (More to come about this.)
With finished projects, if they're being released in the next few months, they're going to be released without any promo from the actors. They can't take part in interviews, premieres, fan events, or even post about their projects on social media.
2. Help with the strike.
Now that the double strike has officially happened, what's the best outcome for the workers and the audiences?
If you're just a casual entertainment enjoyer:
Cancel the streaming services not essential to you. The studios are going to panic more when they start losing even more money.
If you're a fan of a fanchise/upcoming blockbuster:
Flood the companies behind it, demanding them negotiate with the SAG and WGA on their own and agree to a fair deal. Threat not to support the projects unless it's settled fairly.
These studios with upcoming big-budget movies are bleeding money and panicking right now, any added pressure is good.
If one company buckles, the others would follow suit.
If you have money to spare: (Congrats on being rich, btw!)
Donate to the unions and support the ones with lower income in the first place, they'd be struggling with bills if the strike goes on for too long.
For everyone:
Call out big studios who are still planning on filming projects during the strike.
Please note there are exceptions to the strike rule:
1.) Foreign productions.
Please note an actor has to be part of the foreign union to work on these. Some of the foreign unions are still in meetings to decide if they'll allow US companies to work with their members, the most notable ones being the UK one and the Canadian one. Fingers crossed they don't fall for the deals the US studios are offering.
2.) Indie productions.
Indie companies can make their own deals with the workers since they're not included in the overall deal. So a very small amount of US projects can still happen. Make sure a project doesn't fall into this category before calling them out for scabbing.
That's about it for now. I might add more later in the replies if I think of anything.

I just want to remind everyone (or inform if you haven't heard yet) that Universal trimmed trees that offered shade to picketers while experiencing a heatwave. I just don't want anyone to forget Universal purposefully removed a shaded area to discourage picketing.

it's so gross to see tweets of people saying writers don't deserve to be paid what they're worth cause you personally think their writing is bad.
You realize the studios are to blame for "bad" writing cause of cuts and edits to scripts, right? Right?

In light of the historic actors strike, we should bring back the Union hymns of the 20th century.
There’s nothing more rousing than hearing Pete Seeger and a chorus of union members sing out “solidarity forever”.
The powers that be need to be reminded who’s blood, sweat, and tears were shed to make their money.

Is GOOD TV sustainable?
I hate the culture of TV now. The way writers are being treated sucks, and it shows in the culture.
I hate how short the seasons are. I hate that there aren't any super weird filler episodes that make you wonder if the writer's room was smoking something when they wrote them.
I hate how fan interaction isn't always enough to save a show.
On the other hand, I hate how entitled fans feel to good TV. The absolute vitriol hurled at the Game of Thrones writers for Season 8. Yes, it was bad. So what? Doesn't mean you get to bully people.
Honestly, I was just thinking about how some of my favorite shows from the 90s, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Star Trek: The Next Generation, The X-Files, etc. have episodes that are just objectively bad. But we watch them anyway, and we giggle at our little shows and how they sometimes get weird and that's okay.
I mean, for real, like really bad episodes. The BTVS episode where Buffy and Riley have so much sex they create a demon? The TNG episode where Tasha Yar is sexually harassed and later abducted by a more "primitive" species, and everyone just laughs it off? The TXF episode where Mulder and Scully both almost get killed by a few housecats? Like seriously awful episodes.
All this from some of the best sci-fi/fantasy shows ever created.
The Writer's Strike is pointing out a lot of what's bad about TV culture, and I think the inundation of new content, the speed with which content is churned out, and the entitlement we as viewers can sometimes exhibit toward our favorite shows is a culture that needs to change.
Honestly, part of me wants a couple dumb filler episodes where the characters make stupid decisions, and the stakes are unbelievably low. It's nice to have a breather in the middle of a season.
Writers get paid per episode. The new norm of the 8-episode season and a year or more between seasons means writers aren't even getting a chance to make more money, even if the payrate per episode weren't abysmal (which it is). And you can bet the fact that everyone who works on an episode has to get paid is the sole reason services are switching to shorter seasons and slashing the size of writer's rooms.
Yes, TV has gotten better in the last two decades. But at what cost? If you get a couple really stupid episodes in exchange for better working conditions for writers, I personally feel like that's a trade I'd be more than willing to make. Honestly, it's kind of a perk. Day-in-the-life content with my favorite characters? Episodes where background characters get to shine? World-building episodes that don't affect the overarching plot? Yes, please.

This article talks about Netflix part in the strike though part of that is rumor. One key point about the strike is Netflix not releasing the views a show gets. I really want to know what Lockwood & Co views were especially since there wasn't any promotion for it and it took them 106 days to cancel.

No for real, I was going to watch Great Pretender or maybe even rewatch an arc of KNB until I’ve heard that Netflix, Disney and other big name companies are just being the corporate asssholes that they are and decided to just starve their writers.
Because of that, I’m going to avoid Netflix for a few days until these rich assholes do something and treat their writers fairly.

I want to hear your opinion on this
People like him/her are the reason the strike is not over.If you don't understand the basic just don't comment.
It reminds me of people thay see a breast cancer campaign and comment "but what about the other kinds of cancer".Just because we are supporting that campaign it doesnt mean we don't support all the other as well.
Tumblr media
You can see my reply in here as well.Of he was brave enough to comment it I dont think there is any problem with me posting it.
