India is the world’s top supplier of generic pharmaceuticals. The Indian pharmaceutical industry meets more than half of the global demand for various vaccines, 40% of generic demand in the United States, and 25% of total medicine in the United Kingdom. Globally, India ranks third in pharmaceutical manufacturing by volume and fourteenth in value. The domestic pharmaceutical sector comprises 3,000 pharmaceutical businesses and 10,500 manufacturing units. India holds a significant place in the global pharmaceutical industry. The country also possesses a vast pool of scientists and engineers who can propel the industry forward. More than 80% of antiretroviral medications used to combat AIDS are manufactured in the United States.
The typical human lifespan is exposed to more infections and diseases, necessitating preventative measures to maintain health and more significant research to improve the population’s quality of life. Hectic daily schedules, lack of exercise and sleep, improper eating habits, and other lifestyle choices have contributed to poor digestion, high obesity rates, breathing difficulties, and other health issues. Globalization and urbanization are important influences driving the increasing demand for health supplements and better pharmaceuticals. As chronic ailments have increased, people have become more reliant on health supplements and drugs.
With the covid 19, major disruptions have occurred in the Pharma industry. Some of the common challenges in the Pharma industry include
Difficulties in removing organizational silos which prevents Pharma companies from embracing the full potential of digital transformation
Lack of clarity in the current regulations regarding the use of technology

Patient identification is essential in drug discovery and development, mainly when performing clinical trials. AI simplifies the identification of eligibility criteria and patient inclusion, making the cohort identification process faster and less expensive.
Big Data and Analytics: The pharmaceutical industry requires high-performance systems to analyse the massive amounts of data created during the drug discovery and development process. Pharmaceutical firms rely on third-party vendors to share data with collaborators, making data management a critical priority. Analytical techniques advancements are also transforming historical and real-time data available to pharmaceutical businesses into valuable assets for predictive, diagnostic, prescriptive, and descriptive analytics.
Flexible Production: Because of shifting market dynamics, the pharmaceutical industry is experimenting with innovative manufacturing methods, such as small batches for precision medicine. Single-use bioreactors are also gaining popularity due to their ability to reduce downtime and boost productivity. These bioreactors accomplish this by removing complex tasks like cleaning and validation between production rounds.
Curative therapies: Curative medicines, such as cell and gene therapies, transform how we treat chronic diseases and difficult-to-treat ailments by removing the need for long-term medications. Gene therapy is introducing genetic material into cells to compensate for defective genes or produce a good protein. The most frequent vectors for gene therapy are genetically modified viruses.

Reasons Why India is the "Pharmacy" of the Developing World
www.medbuzz.in
Reasons Why India is the "Pharmacy" of the Developing World
India, a developing country, faces several challenges, especially providing its citizens with affordable medicines of high quality. It is not only the case with India but with every developing nation around the world. India's tag in medicine reminds the world of two things, high quality, and low price. The combination and ensuring health security in several developing countries makes Indian medicines favorite among the developing countries. India is one of the largest pharmaceuticals producers worldwide and has the largest United States Food and Drug Administration plants outside the US. The country's pharmaceutical industry is known for its competitiveness because of the ability to master the production of niche medicines quickly, strong R&D backup, competitive domestic firms, and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient. "Robinhood"- is the name given to India in the world of pharmaceuticals.
Some reasons why India is the "Pharmacy: of the Developing World
1. India's affordable medicines make millions of people worldwide to stay alive
India, before 2005 did not grant product patents on medications, which allowed for the production of low-cost medicines with generic names protected with patents in other countries. Indian generic manufacturers were the first to market low-cost medicines with generic names of the life-saving HIV medicines (Zidovudine) and cancer (Imatinib) through reverse engineering skills within a few years of their US launch. There was a price reduction of more than 99 percent of medicines like HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C, Tuberculosis, Malaria, and medicines for non-communicable diseases because of robust competition among generic producers in India.
2. Access to affordable HIV medication from India is one of the most exceptional success stories in medicine is
Africa was the worst-hit country because of AIDS in 1999. Big pharmaceutical companies were charging over $10,000 per month per patient every year for the antiretrovirals because of patent monopolies that made treatment economically unviable for millions of patients in the developing world.
Cipla, a generic medical company, announced that it would manufacture and supply the HIV antiretrovirals at $1 per day, a 99.99 percent price cut. At present, India is the primary source of affordable HIV medicines globally, as it is one of the few countries to produce newer HIV medicines with generic names much faster than any other country in the world.
3. One of the most influential suppliers of low-cost vaccines in the world is India
An excellent example of India's low-cost medicines with generic names is the recombinant Hepatitis B vaccine. Large multinational pharmaceutical companies ensured that the medicine price was high and held a monopoly on the vaccine. A manufacturer in India saw a gap of need at $23 per dose and developed a Hepatitis B vaccines to reduce the medicine price to less than $1 per dose in the absence of patent barriers. India, today is the leading supplier of vaccines to the Ministers of Health in numerous countries and UNICEF.
4. India makes affordable generics possible and prevents 'evergreening.'
In 2005, while allowing patent protection for new pharmaceutical compounds, India adopted a strict medicines patent law, which made it tougher to get a patent on new forms of existing medicines.
The law was designed, keeping in mind the objective of stopping medicine giants from indulging in 'evergreening' an unfortunately common and abusive patenting practice in the pharmaceutical industry. It is also aimed at filing and then obtaining separate patents referred to as secondary patents relating to different medical aspects. These patents are routinely granted in the US and other countries, but India chose to give medication importance to the pharmaceutical industry's business interest. Thus, imatinib mesylate, the generic medicine in India, costs $790 per patient, which costs $106,322 in the US.
5. Low-cost Indian generics vs. sky-high prices of patented drugs in the US
Since US laws and policies blindly favor pharmaceutical companies over medicines with generic names, the US prices are the highest in the world. Thus, this allows multiple and extended monopolies on the same medicine to increase costs for a more extended period.
To reduce medicine prices in India, the policy and lawmakers have identified generic competition as the most effective and most robust way. In India, affordable medicines for people and governments in developing countries result from fewer pharmaceutical companies' patents.
Conclusion
The healthcare system's main motive is pushing countries moving towards public health, ensuring that medicines are easily accessible and available for the largest number of people possible. Still, there are places where people need to pay for their medication out of their pocket, and major developing countries take the top list in spending the larger percentage on health. So if the medicines with generic names get shut down, it is a matter think what would be the situation with just branded versions.
Medecins sans Frontieres calls India 'the pharmacy of the developing world.' Because of the reasons mentioned above and mostly due to the fastest development of medicines with generic names, India was honored with 'the pharmacy of the developing country.' Indian Government has launched various generic medical stores in India that aids even the poor sections of the country to avail and access life-saving medicines without compromising quality and standards.

Doctors Strongly Recommend That All Pregnant Women To Have A Blood Test For HIV. A indulge born two-and-a-half years ago in Mississippi with HIV is the fundamental dispute of a so-called "functional cure" of the infection, researchers announced Sunday. Standard tests can no longer learn of any traces of the AIDS-causing virus even though the child has discontinued HIV medication. "We into this is the first well-documented case of a functional cure," said studio lead author Dr Deborah Persaud, associate professor of pediatrics in the strife of infectious diseases at Johns Hopkins Children's Center in Baltimore active ingredients in bobaraba cream. The finding was presented Sunday at the Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections, in Atlanta. The little one was not part of a study but, instead, the beneficiary of an unexpected and partly unplanned cycle of events that - once confirmed and replicated in a unbending study - might help more children who are born with HIV or who at risk of contracting HIV from their spoil eradicate the virus from their body. Normally, mothers infected with HIV take antiretroviral drugs that can almost reject the odds of the virus being transferred to the baby girls. If a mother doesn't recognize her HIV status or hasn't been treated for other reasons, the baby is given "prophylactic" drugs at birth while awaiting the results of tests to fix on his or her HIV status. This can take four to six weeks to complete. If the tests are positive, the tot starts HIV drug treatment inova healthsource merrifield. The mum of the baby born in Mississippi didn't know she was HIV-positive until the time of delivery. But in this case, both the opening and confirmatory tests on the baby were able to be completed within one day, allowing the baby to be started on HIV panacea treatment within the first 30 hours of life. "Most of our kids don't get picked up that early". As expected, the baby's "viral load" - detectable levels of HIV - decreased progressively until it was no longer detectable at 29 days of age. Theoretically, this foetus (doctors aren't disclosing the gender) would have enchanted the medications for the unwind of his or her life, said the researchers, who included doctors from the University of Massachusetts Medical School and the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Instead, the youngster stayed on the regimen for only 18 months before dropping out of the medical set and discontinuing the drugs. Ten months after stopping treatment, however, the son was again seen by doctors who were surprised to find no HIV virus or HIV antibodies with approved tests. Ultrasensitive tests did detect infinitesimal traces of viral DNA and RNA in the blood. But the virus was not replicating - a strongly unusual occurrence given that drugs were no longer being administered, the researchers said. No one is truly sure why this child achieved a "functional" remedy - meaning the virus is in remission even without medications. But investigators believe that giving antiviral curing so early in life meant the virus had no time to create viral "reservoirs" where dormant HIV cells can procrastinate for years before becoming active again. "For us this is a very exciting finding. By treating a newborn very early we may be able to prevent viral reservoirs or cells that stay around for a lifetime of an infected person". But Dr Michael Horberg, stool of the HIV Medicine Association and director of HIV/AIDS at Kaiser Permanente, stressed that this was a "functional medicine and not a cure in the most classic sense of the word. If we lift adults off HIV medications, they almost certainly within a short time period would have levels of virus back to where they were before they were taking medication". Only one example of a "sterilizing cure" - when there are absolutely no traces of HIV in the body - has been documented. This occurred in the alleged "Berlin patient," who received a bone marrow transplant for leukemia. The transplanted cells came from a supplier who had a rare genetic mutation that increases immunity against the most common state of HIV. The Berlin patient has remained HIV-free after discontinuing drug therapy. And Persaud said she is not advocating that the Mississippi crate become the standard of care. "This is a single case and we don't unusually know what are all of the factors involved ". But the case does "pave the way now for us to in a wink start clinical studies to see if we can replicate these findings in more infants". Those trials are apt to move forward. At the last follow-up, the child born in Mississippi was "doing well and was healthy". Horberg said the findings in the coddle were "encouraging" but "time will tell" if such a strategy can keep the virus under rule for long periods of time without medication. He emphasized that there are ways to prevent a baby from becoming infected in the first off place. "This again shows the importance of testing pregnant mothers and getting them into care and on treat treatment such that we wouldn't even need to worry about it at this point. What's encouraging, though, if it does come to this point, we might have some capital treatment options" malebox.us. The research presented Sunday was funded by the US National Institutes of Health and the American Foundation for AIDS Research.

Five reasons why India is the drugstore to the sector
Agrarian countries over the world face a couple of challenges, key among which is offering their family viable drugs of high-type.
A 'public first' approach to manage technique, serious prescription patent law, and specialists who have utilized sorting out to introduce regular meds, are a bit of the reason that India has climbed as the 'drug store' of the world'. Scrutinize on to discover extra.
A considerable number of people far and wide rely upon sensible medications made in India to stay alive, making the nation the 'drug store' of the world
Prior to 2005, India didn't allow thing licenses on drugs. This is considered for the production of insignificant exertion, nonexclusive types of drugs that were authorized in various countries.
With their sorting out aptitudes, Indian drug manufacturers makers were the first to advance insignificant exertion interpretations of the HIV drugs (Zidovudine) and life-saving danger (Imatinib) inside quite a long while of their US dispatch. Solid contention among customary makers in India has accomplished a cost lessening of over 99% for drugs across various therapeutic areas, including HIV/AIDS, Malaria, Hepatitis C, Tuberculosis, and solutions for non-communicable ailments that are fundamental for general prosperity programs.
India is presumably the greatest supplier of straightforwardness antibodies on the planet
The recombinant Hepatitis B vaccination is an incomprehensible instance of one of India's straightforward solutions. Tremendous worldwide medication associations held a totally forcing plan of action on the neutralizer and guaranteed that the cost of the medication was high. At $23 per divide, a medicine maker in India saw a disregarded need and, without patent limits, developed a Hepatitis B counteracting agent to lessen the cost of the drug to under $1 per partition. Today, India is a fundamental supplier of antibodies to UNICEF and to the Ministries of Health in various countries.
Permission to direct HIV treatment from India is remarkable among different instances of defeating affliction in medicine
In the year 1999, WHO broadcasted that HIV/AIDS was the No.1 killer in Africa. Enormous medication relationships with patent impressive plans of action were costing more than $10,000 per open-minded each year for antiretrovirals (HIV meds), suitably making treatment financially sensible for countless patients on the planet.
JoinHub Pharma manufactures and supplies the triple fixed-partition mix of HIV antiretrovirals at a humble rate, a 99.99% worth cut.
Today, India is the world's major wellspring of sensible HIV prescriptions as it is one of just a small bunch scarcely any countries with the ability to quickly convey more forward-thinking HIV drugs as generics.
Organizations of numerous horticultural countries have additionally begun HIV treatment programs utilizing expectedly conveyed remedies from India. These undertakings advantage more than 15 million individuals who are living with HIV/AIDS.
India prevents 'evergreening' and makes moderate generics possible
In 2005, India grasped a demanding prescription patent law that, while permitting patent security for new medication blends, makes it difficult to get a patent on new kinds of existing drugs.
The law was arranged with the goal of thwarting medication beasts from appreciating 'evergreening,' an unbelievably ordinary, and severe permitting practice in the medication business. It is featured reporting and thereafter getting segregated licenses – called 'helper licenses' – relating to various pieces of the comparable drug. Such licenses are reliably permitted in the US and various countries, in any case, India decided to compose permission to prescriptions over the business interests of the medication business.
This overall prosperity approach to manage to set demanding patent rules is according to overall trade leads and invigorates advantageous part of moderate generics into the market, driving costs down.
How the law capacities are the eventual outcome of the patent decision in 2005 which pardoned the Swiss medication association Novartis' undertaking to patent the salt/glasslike kind of 'Imatinib,' an everyday presence saving prescription for treating consistent myeloid leukemia.
Recording and getting licenses covering salt and pearl kinds of existing medication blends is a compensating game for drug affiliations and Novartis endeavored to do besides in India yet failed because of the overall prosperity shields in the patent law.
Appropriately, the prescription – imatinib mesylate – conveyed usually costs $790 per persevering each year in India stood out from $106, 322 for every patient reliably in the US.
Insignificant exertion of Indian generics Vs. unreasonable expenses of ensured drugs in the US
The costs of prescriptions in the United States are one of the most raised on earth since US laws and procedures aimlessly favor drug associations over the ordinary competition, permitting different and extended limiting frameworks on a costs of medicines, inciting extreme expenses for broad time spans. Of course, India's game plan and directors have seen ordinary competition as the most grounded and best capacity to lessen drug costs. Having fewer patients in India deduces more traditional contention, which suggests more reasonable prescriptions for people and governments in rural countries.
Rather than India's stricter patentability quantifies, the U.S. licenses the demonstration of 'evergreening' that delays customary rivalry and keeps costs high. It is an ordinary strategy by which the medication business widens its partnership on drugs past the essential patent's 20 years. The long partnership of a singular association in the US keeps costs high since regular competition is blocked.
End
No huge amazement why India is known as the "drug store to the world".
In 2015, India has exchanged medication things worth about $4 billion to Africa. This is anticipated to create more than $10 billion by 2020.
The African generics drug market is creating at 25-30% reliably and it is commonly liable to imports. It offers a basic open entryway particularly for little and moderate-sized Indian medication associations that don't satisfy the intense standards constrained by US and European masters. In Africa, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Madagascar, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Mozambique, are the critical vendors of Indian drugs.

Creating sustainable access to modern medicine
It’s easy to overlook just how much the world has changed in healthcare terms over the last 40-50 years thanks to modern medicine.
From the availability of antibiotics to the transformation of HIV from a death sentence to a chronic condition, medical advances have added decades and decades to people’s lives.
But discoveries such as these are only part of the picture – we also need to get medicines into the hands of the people that need them. In HIV therapy, for example, companies like Accord, Shire, Mylan, Matrix have done a lot to aid access in that critical area.
This work has delivered a multiplicity of benefits, from slowing re-infection rates and reducing the spread of the virus to providing an affordable supply of antiretrovirals (ARVs). It is also work that could come easily undone without a sustainable medicines supply chain.
Threats to a viable supply chain
One current trend that’s making the supply base quite fragile is the commoditisation of medicines. Making price the primary driver of access is leading producers down a path of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) to become ever-bigger players in the hope it will bring them economies of scale.
The M&A trend can certainly help a company in terms of its bottom line, but it also means that everyone is resting on the same underpinning supply chain. Without plurality of supply, there’s no resilience in the system and if a major supply component goes down, it can have ripple effects throughout the supply chain, resulting in medicines shortages and ultimately depriving people of access to medicine.
“Making price the primary driver of access is leading producers down a path of M&A… Without plurality of supply, there’s no resilience in the system”
For example, at the beginning of last year, there was a surprise sequence of recalls linked to an assessment of a potential contaminant. It raised a question mark over the main active pharmaceutical ingredient supplier and that in turn impacted 70% of that product’s supply in Europe – and there was simply no way that the remaining 30% of supply could stretch to meet the demand.
That’s just one example but by no means the only instance where millions of people have been deprived of a core treatment. Such things are an often-overlooked consequence of the buy-side consolidation and a drive for medicines procurement to be carried out using a purely price-based approach.
Unfortunately, there’s no quick fix to these critical medicine issues. Pharmaceutical supply chains are not things that can be put in place rapidly, as there are long, complex arrangements for them, given the heavy regulation and oversight that is required.
Added-value versions of traditional generic medicines are one way to offer a valuable means to avoid a purely price-based approach. We are always looking for ways to go ‘beyond the tablet’ to add value and potentially secure intellectual-property protection for innovating around known molecules.
Although generics are identical to the original product, in terms of their clinical attributes, there are a number of ways in which generic products can be developed and enhanced in a non-clinical fashion.
These added-value products can add something as simple as extra pack sizes or better labelling for safety recognition, or they might offer easier ways to use that product or additional service offerings around it. All of those things can improve care, improve compliance, and improve safety.
However, they do ultimately come at a cost – if there’s no incentive for those attributes to be developed then there’s a very clear incentive to not make that effort and simply go for the lowest possible cost. Most added-value generics have the ability to improve current treatment paradigms – but only if there are economies of scale for this kind of positive innovation.
A similar sort of outlook is needed if healthcare systems are to reap the benefits of cheaper biosimilar versions of established biologic drugs for conditions like arthritis, cancer and diabetes.
Designing systems to recognise value
To improve the current market dynamic, we need to support market forces to redefine success based on value, and not price. One clear way to achieve that is to come together as a healthcare industry to lobby for the implementation of the most economically advantageous tender (MEAT) concept that looks for the ‘best value’ from medicine deals rather than simply the ‘best price’. It is only then that we can get on the right path to ensuring a sustainable generics and biosimilars business model.
Public sector organisations should be looking for products that fit the patient need and turn away from a race to the bottom. It is the only way to ensure supply chain resilience, reliability and improved products for patients.

spot the Pacodi 😍 He cant stress more on the #corona care guide! 🔸You should wash hands as much as possible. 🔸avoid crowded areas, malls, spa centers and salon visits. 🔸Share symptoms and precautions with your service staff and household helps. 🔸suspend domestic and international travels and events. 🔸 Not spread panic . . Excerpts from todays @broadsheet_in An India snapshot: So here’s where we are: We recorded our first coronavirus death: A 76-year-old man from Kalburgi, Karnataka, who recently traveled to Saudi Arabia. We now have 74 confirmed cases. The government insists that there are no cases of ‘community transmission’ so far—and all current cases are linked to people with a travel history to infected locations. Experts disagree. They point out that India simply hasn’t tested enough people (only 5,000 so far)—and the cases will escalate as screenings increase. Also: Delhi has shut all schools, colleges and movie theatres. The PM has banned all phoren trips for his cabinet ministers, and told Indians around the world: ghar mat aana, bhai 🙏🏽! For more: Indian Express lists all the steps the government has taken to contain the spread. A looming worry: a shortage of medicines. Antiretrovirals are used to treat Covid-19 patients. Indian companies currently have stocks to treat 100,000 patients. The only external supplier to India: China—which is now holding back supplies. Also: The government issued elaborate instructions on how to implement a home quarantine. Indian Express explains how it works. How do you trace everyone who has been in contact with a Covid-19 patient in a place as chaotic as India? Meet the ‘virus detectives’ of Kerala. Also, Indian doctors have a new port of call: cremation grounds. . . Keep reading but only from trusted sources and publications.
