Day One: Just A Lil Guy

Obviously today's prompt had to be Marn, and slubby supercoils are the best Marn Yarn I could think of. Spun from a soft brown fleece from a Shetland sheep named Rosemary, this yarn has a lot of energy in a small package! The little chunks formed by the slubs have big Marn energy in my brain. Thinking of this yarn for the first prompt is what inspired me to spin different yarns for each day of this year's 15 Days of FatT!

Helicases can use energy from ATP hydrolysis to separate the two strands of the double helix. The energy input from ATP is needed to pay the penalty for breaking hydrogen bonds between bases in DNA. Humans produce several different helicases. Topoisomerase I and topoisomerase II both relax supercoiled DNA during replication and transcription. Topoisomerase II also untangles (decatenates) DNA for chromosome segregation during mitosis.  Type I topoisomerases cut one strand, whereas type II topoisomerases cut both strands of a double helix.
