G1 Sunshine Pony - Mainsail

These ponies were TAF(esque) but what made them unique? The white stripe in their mane and tail is actually thermal / sun-sensitive. When they first came out, if you play outside in the sunshine (hah), the white would change to a very deep dark purple.

Unfortunately, no matter how careful you with them, this is another thing that just erodes over time and so it's not easy to find one that "works." I bought this girl mint and, as you can see, she's just kind of pink/magenta.

Hm. You know, I was worried sometimes that I was making their hair TOO glossy-smooth but I guess not.

08/02/19: Pony Acquisition Post #374: My Little Pony Fair Brags: G1 Mainsail and Sweet Notes!

Year Released: 1988, 1990

Two kind of random ladies also entered my herd, as I don’t have any of the other ladies in these sets! We have Mainsail from the Sunshine ponies, who have color changing hair (the white part, that always frizzes!), and Sweet Notes from the Rockin Beat ponies! Both have really cool TAF-esque designs, and super cool hair- look at the crimp in Sweet Notes’!

Original Condition: Good

Flaws: Head/Body mismatch with Mainsail, and a marker stain on her body. Unsure if her color change mechanic still works.

Restoration materials: shampoo, conditioner, soap

Current Condition: Very good/good!

My Little Pony Sunday: Main Sail

Main Sail is one of the Sunshine Ponies; twice-as-fancy ponies whose hair turns colour in the sun. Mainsail’s hair stripe turns from white to purple in the sun and she has the full-body patterning like the other TAFs.

I've discovered that I do have a soft spot for sky blue and yellow together.

I think I bought Mainsail to keep, but I honestly don’t remember. Guess I need to decide.

Her hair also no longer changes color. I considered doing a rehair, since I DO have UV react hair from Shimmerlocks, but it’s polypropylene and I hate poly hair.

She needed a little time in the SunBox to reset her body color. It still doesn’t exactly match her head, but it’s a lot closer.
