💕Love Day Love Story Series💕
(AN: The inspo for the lovey dove bits came from the story I’d written for them, I read a story on wattpad to get myself in the zone before writing this and it’s so 🥺)
For Love Day, the different couples sat down and answered questions about their relationships and how they’ve grown as a couple, it’s so wonderful seeing how the different couples have walked through the different seasons of life together in accordance with their marriage vows. Today it’s Eric and Valentina’s turn.
Eric & Valentina
Eric and Valentina’s courtship
How did you guys meet?
(E) “My family had moved to Brindleton Bay maybe 5 years before we met, when my brother and i were still in high-school and when we joined our church we met the Hunt family. My dad wasn’t a very social person so we didn’t hang around church people a lot, we spent a lot of time camping out in the wild, but as we got older and graduated highschool we had more freedom to do other things. As my mum didn’t have so much time taken up with homeschooling she was able to go out and make friends with some of the other women at church, with Danielle Hunt being one of those women. I’d never really thought about being married, even though both my parents made sure to teach us about what it is to be a provider, I was always ready to just do my own thing and mind my business you know? That's why I was blindsided that day when the Hunts’ invited us to their house after a church service one sunday so we could meet Danielle’s sister and her family.
If I’m being really honest, it was love at first sight for me, I had no idea someone could be so beautiful - but, she didn’t even notice me other than a quick greeting as she was busy caring for her siblings. The next week at church Danielle asked me what I thought of her niece and I think my instant blush gave everything away [haha], my mum was eager to investigate my very apparent crush so she did everything she could to get us to travel into Newcrest for whatever reason. When we did make it to Newcrest, we attended the service at Newcrest Baptist where my mum reunited with Claire and it seemed like they’d been friends forever. I didn’t want to make myself look like a clown so I was quiet whilst my brother found my silence hilarious as he made fast friends with her brothers that are similar in age. We were invited to the Paulson’s house for lunch so it was there that we actually spoke for the first time - and I thought I was going to collapse - talking to Valentina was so easy, my dad made it seem like male and female relationships were nothing but a drag but I found it to be exactly the opposite. To cut a very long story short, I managed to dazzle her with my charm and we started courting soon after, I realised I was ready to marry her basically right when we started courting but obviously we needed more time to get to know each other more. My brother Trent’s birthday was coming up and we were heading up to Granite Falls to go camping and my brother had invited Carter and Barrett to come camping with us, I realised having her older brother there would be a great excuse for a built in chaperone so I convinced her parents to let her come along (and got their blessing to propose) I asked her to marry me at sunset and I was so happy she said yes, after we married we honeymooned in Granite Falls too.
(V) “My mum has always been close to her twin sister so they alternate visits between Newcrest and Brindleton Bay, this time it was us heading down there. We attended church with them and, as always, we had lunch at their house after. This time my aunt had invited this other family that had moved to Brindleton Bay and started attending their church, I was told they had 2 sons close in age that were friends with my brothers and cousins, but at the time I was focused on caring for my siblings and helping with lunch that all i managed was a quick conversation that didn’t even stick in my mind. My mum has always told my sisters and I that we should pray for our future husbands and make lists on what we want in a husband, and I think she was starting to get antsy as I was the age she was when she married, but unlike her I had no young men on my mind or knocking at the door for me. I will say I did think Eric was really nice, but I thought he was a bit shy - which I now know he was [laughs].
Some time later the Townsends’ came into Newcrest, that was when I really got to know Eric and I was impressed with his personality, he was easy to talk to and we got along like a house on fire. Soon I realised that I *may* have had a tiny crush that was developing on Eric, but I didn’t want to say anything and seem too forward, so I kept everything platonic. When Eric brought up the future and whether I’d like to start a courtship I almost jumped for joy! I was so happy, and with every event I’ve only gotten happier: from getting engaged, getting married, and now our 2 littles with me being pregnant again - I’m so happy I get to do life with my favourite person.”
How have you changed since marriage?
(E)”Well, I had to learn how to share a living space with a woman after sharing with my brother for years. I will say I am happy that my mum discreetly tried to teach me how to be considerate to a woman’s differences, as it helped a lot as we got used to living with each other. My parents' relationship wasn’t very pda-heavy, in fact we didn’t see them do anything other than occasionally hold hands, so my ideals of relationships were very different from Valentina’s whose parents are very into pda. Seeing that marriage doesn’t have to be something done begrudgingly simply for procreation has been an eye opening experience, Valentina is everything that I didn’t know I wanted in a wife; seeing our children be born and being co-parents together is something I will never give up.
(V) “I went from a house with 12 people to a house with just us, and imagine, Eric had saved up enough money for us to buy a house and renovate right after we got married! Learning about new types of foods has been fun together, when I was pregnant with Aria all I ate - and therefore we ate - was Pho, and we’ve been trying to branch out with what we eat and eat fresh food and veggies everyday (for me anyway, Eric grew up going out in nature and is used to eating all kinds of foods) When our children were born it warmed my heart to see Eric take the initiative and be a hands on dad whenever he can, he’s already making plans for when the kids are old enough to take them camping and teach them how to live in the wild. Now that Aria is old enough to hold a fishing pole I can imagine that those 2 will be out and about as much as they can, I love seeing the daddy daughter bond that they have. Even with Ansel, Eric takes his time to make sure that every one of us feels loved, and with this new addition that’s coming I have no doubts in my mind that Eric is an amazing father - everyday he proves to be a wonderful person and I can’t thank the Lord enough for his parents who raised him to be the way he is.”

'William Barton returns to the Australian Festival of Chamber Music with music, messages and memories'
The powerful sound of William Barton’s didgeridoo will again ring out through North Queensland when the renowned composer and musician performs from his significant canon of works at the 30th Australian Festival of Chamber Music (AFCM) in Townsville from 23 July to 1 August.A proud Kalkadunga man, ARIA-award winning William Barton is a distinguished artist of extraordinary musicality, a virtuoso performer of the didgeridoo and a renowned composer of the highest acclaim who just last month was given the prestigious Australia Council for the Arts's Don Banks Music Award for outstanding and sustained contribution to music in Australia. http://www.australiacouncil.gov.au/.../bio.../william-barton
Barton shares a long history with the AFCM, having been a regular performer for many years, and now is set to return to perform at three major events during the Festival. He last performed at the AFCM in 2012.
“The AFCM holds a special place in my heart, I premiered a number of my works there, and I have always dreamt of returning to perform a combination of pieces from my current portfolio which I have performed around the world on some of the greatest stages, as well as those formative pieces from earlier years. I am looking forward to creating some premiere addendums to key pieces, music that hasn’t been heard before using didgeridoo, voice and guitar,” he said.
“Coming back to Townsville, and the AFCM is exciting, particularly to mark the 30th anniversary of this extraordinary chamber music festival. Performing on Magnetic Island will be a special experience.”
William Barton performs in the Queens Gardens Concert on Sunday 25 July at 3pm, the Sunset Series Concert B4 on Monday 26 July at 5pm at the Townsville Civic Theatre and the Sounds Like Paradise Dinner on Tuesday 27 July on Magnetic island. The 30th AFCM will be held from 23 July to 1 August as a joyous 10-day celebration of music curated by Artistic Director, Kathryn Stott.
Over 30 music-filled years, the AFCM has forged a stunning international reputation as one of the best chamber music celebrations in the world. Featuring 133 works, 112 composers, four world premieres and five Australian premieres the program stars more than 40 Australian musicians, 15 in their AFCM debut, as well as three ensembles including the Goldner String Quartet in their 25th anniversary year, and three local groups including the acclaimed Dancenorth.
ABOUT WILLIAM BARTONOver his long and remarkable career, William has performed all over the world, from large concert halls to regional music festivals and at international landmarks reflecting the central importance of his music to Australian and world identity. His generosity of sound and spirit have seen his work commissioned by some of the most outstanding ensembles from around the world. For two decades, he has forged a peerless profile as a performer and composer in the classical musical world, from the Philharmonic Orchestras of London and Berlin to historic events at Westminster Abbey for Commonwealth Day 2019, Anzac Cove and the Beijing Olympics. His awards include Winner of Best Original Score for a Mainstage Production at the 2018 Sydney Theatre Awards and Winner of Best Classical Album with ARIA for Birdsong At Dusk in 2012.
With his prodigious musicality and the quiet conviction of his Kalkadunga heritage, he has vastly expanded the horizons of the didgeridoo — and the culture and landscape that it represents.“I grew up on a cattle station just outside Mt Isa in northwest Queensland. I started learning the didgeridoo from about the age of seven from my uncle, Arthur Peterson. He was an elder of the Wannyi, Lardil and Kalkadunga people.”
His mother — singer, songwriter and poet Delmae Barton — remembers him dancing to Elvis Presley when he could barely stand. He recalls Beethoven and Vivaldi streaming from ABC classic FM radio, and AC/DC in his cassette player. Through it all, the hypnotic whoop and drone of the didgeridoo wove a common thread in his imagination.
“What I remember so clearly from my uncle is him telling me that the didgeridoo is a language. It’s a speaking language and like any language, it’s something that you’ve got to learn over many months, and many years. It’s got to be a part of you, and what you do.”At 17, William realised a lifelong dream when he was invited to perform with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.
But the full, rapturous embrace of the classical music world came in 2004, when Tasmanian composer Peter Sculthorpe unveiled his Requiem with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and guest soloist, William Barton. That night, William was invited to join the orchestra in Japan, to perform Sculthorpe compositions Earth Cry and Mangrove.
Tours to the USA and New Zealand followed, and the composer and didgeridoo artist cemented a firm creative partnership. "William offered me a new direction," the late composer has said, praising his instinctive musicality and skill as an improviser. He’s almost like a magician… bringing my music home.”The importance of William’s outstanding and enduring contribution has been recognised by many awards including the = Artist Residency Peggy Glanville-Hicks Composers House (2020), Artist in Residence Melbourne Recital Centre (2019), Best Original Score for a Main Stage Production - The Long Forgotten Dream – Sydney Theatre Awards (2018), ARIA Best Classical Album - Kalkadungu: Music for Didjeridu and Orchestra (2012).

Sunset's Aria Sunday Share #5
For those of you who missed today's Sunday Share, here are the links we looked at in-stream:
Today’s Figure Drawing Session:
Line-of-Action - male and female models, clothed (30 minute "class": mix of 30 second, 1 minute, 5 minute, and 10 minute poses)
Tips for Drawing Poses
Griz and Norm's Tuesday Tip: Floating Hands - We talked a lot last week about drawing hands, so this little tip about positioning them in relation to the body made sense to share. Drawing hands before you draw the arms can sometimes make more elaborate gestures easier to visualize, rather than worrying over the positioning of the arm and elbow before you even get a chance to attempt the hands. I use this technique sometimes when I get stuck while planning a pose!
Griz and Norm's Tuesday Tip: Structure VS Gesture - We've talked about structure, and we've talked about gesture, so now here's a quick tip about why it's important to think about and utilize both approaches in your work.
Helpful Websites for Colour Palettes
Paletton - Many people were excited about this discovery in the stream, and with good reason. This is one of the most versatile colour palette generators I've come across, with very detailed controls for automatically making use of adjacent and complementary colours, links to preview colour choices on example websites and images, and even a link to a small wiki detailing information about colour theory, color schemes, and more! (Seen here!)
Colourmind - Want to just automatically generate a palette to use for playing with colours in an image? Colormind allows you to automatically generate colour schemes with the click of a button, just to see what's possible and available. It also has an option to generate appealing color palettes from uploaded images.
Canva's Colour Palette Generator - Want another option for generating color palettes from appealing photographs and artwork you've come across? You can simply drag and drop images from your file explorer onto this website to have it automatically generate color palettes with hex codes for your personal use. Perhaps try taking a piece of art you really enjoy the colours of, generating a palette, and creating an image using just those colours in a similar way!
Tips for Drawing Fur
Witherlings (formerly CoyoteMange)'s In-Depth Fur Tutorial - I talked at length today about the methods I use to approach drawing fur, but I would HIGHLY recommend looking at this resource for a very detailed summary of techniques for approaching various kinds of fur. I originally learned my current approach for detailing fur from this tutorial, in fact.

Sunset’s Aria Sunday Share #7
For those of you who missed today's Sunday Share, here are the links we looked at in-stream:
Today’s Figure Drawing Session:
Draw This: #42 Amy - female model, clothed. 20 minutes of 1 minute poses.
Techniques for Line Practice
"Mechanical Drawing Exercises" by Darren Calvert - It's easy to forget that there are ways to improve your drawings that don't require drawing actual things. For those who want to practice their mechanical drawing and muscle memory, here are some exercises that help encourage stronger technical prowess in drawing straight and curved lines with confidence. Best part is, these are exercises that you can do on any paper! Want to practice in the margins of your notes? This would do the trick!
"Ultimate Drawing Exercise Routine" by Rapidpunches - Similar to the exercises mentioned above, this technique focuses on combining a variety of lines into a single image: a snake in a basket! The rest of the post also has advice on choosing distinct colour palettes and creating a distinct art style as well. I highly recommend reading this post for the snake in a basket routine, if only to see a different exercise approach to "loosening up" before attempting work on a more detailed project.

No Sunday Share This Weekend
Sorry folks! Just a reminder that I'm going to be away this weekend visiting my family out of town, so I have to put the Sunday Share on hold this week. Rest assured that we will make next week's stream well worth the wait, with an extra long stream, and some more in-depth discussion on how I draw limbs, bodies, and clothing, as requested by stream goers.
As a reminder to those of you who may have questions or resources to share, and haven't been able to do so yet in the stream chat, please feel free to submit your requests via this anonymous form, so that you get to see more of what you want to see in upcoming streams!
In other news, we may start a weekly resource image submission activity in upcoming streams, to help fellow artists find some new and great reference materials ... Stay tuned for more information as we get closer to that time!

Sunset’s Aria Sunday Share #8
For those of you who missed this week's Sunday Share, here are the links we looked at in-stream. It was a bit of a shorter session, but this week we had some viewer submissions for resources!:
Today’s Figure Drawing Session
Draw This: #43 Anna - female model, clothed. 20 minutes of 1 minute poses.
Program Resources
Autodesk Sketchbook - (Submitted by Mint!) Recently, this program was made free to use with the creation of a free Autodesk ID. While this program is rather different from something like Photoshop or Clip Paint Studio, it has all the essential basics for sketching, and even some nifty extra features such as a faux Copic Marker palette. It is also compatible with any device, desktop or mobile.
Reference Images
"Spotted Hyena VS Wolf Sketch Study" by Tess Garman (Kenket) - (Provided by Lauralai!) Hyenas are among my favourite animal subjects to draw, and this expressive and sketchy set of pages will likely prove useful for anyone who wants to see just what gives hyenas their unique anatomical charm. This is also a great example of how you can set up study sketch sheets for your own reference needs.
This Week's Image Theme: PROSTHETICS

Sunset’s Aria Sunday Share #6
For those of you who missed today's Sunday Share, here are the links we looked at in-stream:
Today’s Figure Drawing Session
Draw This: #41 Ryder - male model, clothed in cowboy costume (1 minute poses)
Figure Drawing Resource
"ELEMENTS OF CHARACTER: Gesture, Forms, and Animation" video by ModernDayJames - Modern Day James talks a bit about how he approaches gestures and form, and walks the viewer through a quick exercise where he uses gesture drawings to create a very small, rough animation that focuses on portraying movement in a series of 10 second illustrations. His style of gesture drawing includes things such as shadow shape and outlines of garment folds, resulting in a rather unique and sketchy gesture drawing style!
Studying Artists to Analyze Style
How Todd Nauck Draws Nightcrawler
How Todd Nauck Draws Bamfs
These are older examples from my own personal studies (2016), but I provided these as an example of how I tend to take notes on an artist's particular style, in order to figure out what aspects I would like to integrate into my own work. Even if you don't redraw the elements of the work like I did, I highly recommend taking notes on top of some art you admire, and really analyzing WHY you find it as appealing as you do.
Also, other artists used to discuss style (and also highly recommend checking out): GentlemanDeerLord, RedBeanViolin
Self-Improvement
"The Art Cycle" by Shattered-Earth - The theory presented here makes a lot of sense regarding how various types of skills related to the creation of art will fluctuate and impact our ability to truly understand where our abilities are. Both skills in making art and skills in perceiving art are required in order to foster true improvement, and practicing both regularly will allow you to properly develop the skills you need to consistently create better and better work.
Drawing Cloth
"Mini Fold-Drawing Tutorial" by Feredir - Most of today's discussion of clothes was done via live discussion and demo, but this simple tutorial image summarizes the key fold shapes and types that are necessary to create believable folds in clothing.

Sunset’s Aria Sunday Share #4
For those of you who missed today's Sunday Share, here are the links we looked at in-stream:
Today’s Figure Drawing Session:
Line-of-Action - male and female models, clothed (30 minute "class": mix of 30 second, 1 minute, 5 minute, and 10 minute poses)
Techniques and Essentials Resources
Griz and Norm's Tuesday Tip: Long Lines - After a few people expressed some confusion about gesture drawing technique, how convenient that Griz and Norm would provide a relevant tip! Using long lines to draw out your initial poses helps improve dynamism and flow, and doing this helps to exaggerate the pose you're using a little before detailing reins it back in.
"Anatomy Quick Tips: Hands" video by Sinix Design - All of Sinix's anatomy quick tips videos are very helpful, but I especially love how they discuss hands, since they talk not just about the essential structures that make a hand look correct, but also the various ways you can stylize them to suit your needs!
Custom-Drawn Resources
Here are copies of the diagrams I drew while I was explaining proportions for drawing people:
Body and Head Proportions

Today’s Figure Drawing Session:
Line-of-Action - male and female models, clothed (2 minute poses)
Draw This: #25 Yoni (Part 3) - male model, clothed (5 minute poses)
Techniques and Essentials Resources
"Pencil Drawing Techniques" video by Bobby Chiu - I've recently started adopting the techniques discussed in this video or at least the main principles of it, to my own sketching style, with some very satisfying results! Bobby Chiu talks about how holding his pencil in a different way and making use of a variety of different lines contributes to his unique style and process from sketch to rendered image.
"Good Shapes: 10 Minutes to Better Painting - Episode 4" video by Marco Bucci - Take ten minutes to listen to Marco Bucci discuss the importance of recognizeable, clear, deliberate shape work in creating good paintings. While this video speaks mostly about paintings, the principles discussed here would be very easy to apply to drawing as well, such as breaking down body shapes in a drawing reference.

Two SASS-related things to share this morning!
For anyone who wants to submit a resource or a question for my weekly Sunday Share, there is now an easy-peasy anonymous form you can use to do so! Using the document I had set up before just felt too unrefined.
I've created a Trello board to store and share all of the resources that are discussed during these streams, so that there's an easy way for anyone to access them any day of the week. I'll still do my weekly Tumblr/Twitter summary as well.
