I've been working on this for a while - younger Sunpuddle (probably sunpaw at this time) being guided by his mentor. I'm not sure about the mentors name, but he would be a calm and chill type, a good balance for Sunpuddle's impulsiveness and higher energy. ^^

sunpuddle: i've avoided it bc of how weird the fans are about its teen characters but given how excellent your FFXIV ("fuffciv") writing has been i'm looking forward to what you have to say about it, if you end up writing it out

[cracks knuckles] Right so. I don't really know how to explain it but, in another situation "the fans are weird about teens so I avoid it" might be justified, but CSM is something you read and then never ever ever talk to anyone in the "fandom" about.

Hard story to pin down but this is the core of it for me: It's about the kind of person -- Denji -- who is so isolated and neglected while still so young that contrary to the shounen protagonist who wants to be the very best, the most, the greatest, whatever, this kid hasn't had the luxury of wanting things. It is about trying to pull yourself through life when your circumstances change from pure survival into something where you should now have goals or aspirations like everyone else, but you literally don't know how to grasp them. And the goals that he says he has aren't really his own anyway. He wants food that he's heard people say is good. He's 16 and hormonal and lonely so he computes it as wanting to touch a boob, just once, and then he'll feel normal probably. + In a setting where humanity is hounded by horror monstrosity devils associated with things we fear, like "blood" or "guns" or "the future" or "angels" or "war" or "chainsaws," which grow in power based on how much that fear haunts people. ++ with an irreverent kind of humor because if this was just a flat out horror it wouldn't be competing with One Piece every week. I can't call it a shounen though.

Less specific to Denji it's always about systems of control people have over each other. So neglect and abuse is put up next to being controlled by your shitty job, being controlled by the physical nature of your body, being controlled by other people's goals, controlled by obligation, controlled by loved ones because their habits became your personality, controlled by what the government allows you to do, controlled by FEAR and love and sex and especially people who misuse sex to gain this control. There's a lot going on thematically and then a writing style that's like laughing while hitting you with a sledgehammer? The entire power system is based on people making contracts with devils to gain access to their powers at the cost of being controlled by something they fear.

And I think the reason people can't be normal about it is because a lot of the horror in Chainsaw Man is because all the characters are people, a lot of them are women, a some of the women are monstrously bad towards a protagonist who is too busy fawning over anyone giving him attention to notice this. Like the Misato Evangelion effect or how people are about abusive people in real life frankly -- "How am I supposed to feel about this? I like her, I know her, she's pretty, but what she's doing is awful, I can't reconcile this at all." Cognitive dissonance? Yeah. I can't recommend this one enough.

I didn't rant too much at the time but I think Chainsaw Man takes the medal for best thing I've ever read

I've decided Sunpuddle has a poor sense of direction. I'm working on a silly sketch that I created from that idea. He's terrible at going places but he's still a good warrior ya know?

I'm not sure yet what clan he would be. Maybe my next random idea will help me figure that out

Alone

The final track of the album is essentially the wrong side of what it all started with. With the help of several instruments, I try to voice the different voices of family and loved ones. Basically, these are tired lonely children who are not really heard or understood by their parents.

Nevertheless, despite the shattered hopes and dreams, Alone is a humility, peace, the right to solitude, attempts to live on with the realization that apart will be better for everyone. In addition, this is an opportunity to keep in memory all the good things that happened before, when everyone was together.

We have lost that immortality, but we still exist.
