The Do's & Don'ts of Window Tint Maintenance

Tinted windows help shield yourself and your passengers from the sun, keep out prying eyes, and prevent your windows from completely shattering in the event of a collision.  For the do’s and don’ts of caring for your tints, continue reading below. Do:Clean Them RegularlyTinted windows should be washed every other week either on their own or as part of a routine car wash. Regular cleaning helps to minimize the buildup of dirt on your windows, which makes them easier to clean each time. Additionally, clean windows are less likely to develop streaks and stains. Make Microfiber Your FriendCar window tinting is done by placing a thin, pigmented film on the inner part of the glass. This film is designed to be durable; however, it is still vulnerable to scuffs and scratches. You can prevent these scratches from forming by using a squeegee or microfiber cloth to wash and dry your windows. Avoid Direct SunlightLeaving your vehicle in direct sunlight as you wash it can cause it to dry unevenly. This uneven drying may result in permanent streaks and lines, particularly in your tints. Protect your vehicle — and windows — by parking it in the shade while you wash it or visiting an indoor car wash. Don’t:Use Harsh Chemicalscar window tinting Ammonia-based cleaners are too abrasive for tinted windows. The chemicals in these cleaners can cause the tints to wear and dissolve, ultimately damaging them. Instead, opt for plain soap and water or a window cleaner made of naturally-derived ingredients. Focus on the ExteriorAlthough a clean exterior makes your vehicle look better, it does little to help the lifespan of your tints. Because car window tinting is done on the inner pane, this portion should receive extra attention during washes and cleaning. Using your microfiber cloth, move in gentle, circular motions and avoid aggressive scrubbing. Clean the EdgesAvoid cleaning the edges of your tinted windows. Here, the film is most pliable and vulnerable to damage. If something spills or dirt collects near the edge, clean this area delicately with a soft cloth.
