RINGSIDE WRESTLING : JANUARY 1997
VADER VS MICHAELS
SummerSlam Super Slugfest
The WWF World Heavyweight Championship match between champ  SHawn “Heartbreak Kid” Michaels and challenger Vader at Summer Slam is one they’ll be talking about for a long time to come. Vader prepares to whip Shawn Michaels across the ring.
In the champ’s corner was Michael's longtime teacher and mentor, Jose Lothario.
Vader reacts to a sharp right hand from the Kid
Vader pummels Shawn against the ropes!
Twice the match was stopped and Vader was awarded a disqualification victory, once because Michaels was beating Vader with JIm Cornette’s tennis racket.
But after both DQ victories, Cornette, acting as Vader’s manager, demanded that the match be restarted. A DQ win meant that Vader would not win the gold strap, as the championship can only change hands following a pinfall or submission victory.
After the match started for a third time, Michael’s acrobatics and agility proved to be too much for the massive challenger and Shawn retained his WWF title.

Happy Heavenly Birthday to the late , great , ‘ King of Harts ’ , Owen Hart. Owen would have been 59 years old today.
Owen Hart is the youngest brother of Bret ‘ The Hitman ’ Hart and son of Stampede Wrestling Promoters , Stu and Helen Hart. (Stampede Wrestling was a promotion in Canada founded by Stu Hart , the Patriarch of the Hart family in 1948. The wrestling school for the promotion was known as The Dungeon. It has many graduates such as Bret Hart , Owen Hart, Chris Jericho , Davy Boy Smith , and the only female graduate, Natalya. ) Owen started his wrestling career in high school in 1983. He placed 4th in wrestling in college at the University of Calgary in 1984. He worked for Stampede wrestling and earned title of Rookie of The Year for Pro Wrestling Illustrated ( PWI ) Magazine in 1987. However, he left Stampede to be a member of the New Japan Pro Wrestling ( NJPW) roster in 1988.
Owen was signed to Vince McMahon’s World Wrestling Federation ( WWF) in 1988 , with a superhero gimmick known as ‘ The Blue Blazer ’. Nevertheless , this gimmick would be the one to take his life eleven years later. He returned to Stampede and NJPW in 1989. Hart made his return to the WWF in 1991 , teaming alongside Brother In Law, Jim ‘ The Anvil ’ Neidhart ( father of current WWE Superstar, Natalya) and calling themselves , The New Foundation. Neidhart was teaming with Owen’s older brother , Bret, before Bret decided to try out a run as a Singles wrestler. Hart also teamed with Koko B Ware as High Energy. Owen followed in Bret’s footsteps as a Singles wrestler in 1993.
Owen was in a storyline with Bret from 1993 to 1995 to see who was the better wrestler in the family. After Survivor Series 1993 , Owen changed his gear from colorful to Bret’s signature pink and black to be like him. He also decided to use the Sharpshooter, Bret’s finisher, to add to this new Heel gimmick. He added , ‘ King Of Harts ’ , to the gear after winning King of The Ring in 1994. His original nickname was ‘ The Rocket ’. The Hart Brothers had a match at Wrestlemania X the same year. They also had a Steel Cage match at Summerslam of the same year. In 1995 , he teamed with Yokozuna and was managed by Jim Cornette as well as Mr.Fuji to form ‘ Camp Cornette ’ , winning the WWF Tag Team Championships.
In 1996-1997 , Owen teamed with Bret , Brother in Laws, Davey Boy Smith ( The British Bulldog) , Jim ‘ The Anvil ’ Neidhart , and family friend , ‘ Loose Cannon ’ Brian Pillman ( father of WWE NXT wrestler , Lexis King ) , to reform the Hart Foundation. Owen defeated Rocky Maivia ( The Rock ) , to win his first Intercontinental Championship for the first time in 1997. He also was tag team champions with The British Bulldog the same year, thus , they lost the titles to Stone Cold Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels. After the Montreal Screwjob , Owen returned with a new gimmick , The Black Hart. This gimmick meant he wanted to get justice for Bret and his family against Vince McMahon and D-Generation X ( DX) , mainly Shawn Michaels. He joined the Nation of Domination the same year and ended his run with the faction in 1998.
Owen soon formed a tag team with best friend , Jeff Jarrett , in 1998. He decided to use the Blue Blazer gimmick to develop the storyline. He kept denying that he was the superhero and he claimed to be ‘ retired ’. Whole doing this , Hart and Jarrett defeated Ken Shamrock and The Big Bossman in 1999 to win the tag team championships. Their manager at the time was Debra McMichael , also known as Debra.
On May 23,1999 at the WWF Over The Edge Pay Per View in Kansas City, Missouri, would be the last time Owen Hart would ever be the Blue Blazer . While being lowered into the ring for a match against The Godfather for the Intercontinental Championship, he fell almost 80 feet into the ring. This was thought to be a part of his dramatic and funny entrance for the character. However, it was not. He landed on his chest on the top rope before being thrown into the ring. Owen James Hart passed away at the hospital from Internal Bleeding due to his injuries at the age of 34. He left behind his wife Martha, and two children , Oje and Athena , as well as his huge family. The tribute episode of Monday Night Raw for Owen aired May 24, 1999. This episode of the show was called RAW is Owen, with wrestlers giving their memories of him and Steve Austin coming down to the ring and saluting him by holding a beer to his photo. Jeff Jarrett defeated The Godfather and became the new Intercontinental Champion. Jarrett soon screamed his name after getting the belt.
On an episode of WCW Monday Nitro , Bret Hart wanted to face Chris Benoit as a tribute to his fallen brother in the same arena where Owen died. This happened October 5th , 1999, five months after Owen passed away.
Martha Hart is currently keeping her husband’s legacy alive with All Elite Wrestling. In 2021 , she alongside AEW President , Tony Khan, announced the Owen Hart Cup Tournament. Winners of this tournament include Adam Cole and Britt Baker. Owen is also a character in AEW Fight Forever.
My Final Thoughts:
Owen Hart was a once in a lifetime wrestler. If he didn’t pass away so young and tragically, he would have went on to be a world champion. Owen , thank you for everything. Even though I didn’t get to watch you live and I was an infant when you passed away, you still made an impact on me as a fan. I watch your matches on the internet and streaming services. You’re one of the coolest people. You will always be to me. Happy Heavenly Birthday , I and many others will always love and miss you. This post is my tribute to you. - Kay

Top 5 favorite matches of all time, from any era.
Ohhh, that's a TOUGH one - so many matches over the years! There is probably going to be a recurring theme here: 5) Curt Hennig Vs Nick Bockwinkel: 11/15/1986 1hr, 6min - Yes a 1 hour match - Hennig was 28, Bockwinkel was 51 - insane stamina for both. 4) Dean Malenko vs Curt Hennig: (multiple 97/98) 10/20/1997 - Malenko had a push around this time, but still super underrated 3) Eddie Guerrero vs Rey Mysterio Jr. - Halloween Havoc 1997 - Just amazing from beginning to end, all the best things about luchadores 2) Razor Ramon vs Shawn Michaels: Wrestlemania X ladder match - Just incredible with two incredible talents 1) Bret Hart vs Curt Henning: Summerslam 1991 - Two legends in their heyday (though Curt's back wasn't great) just amazing to watch. Also Bret nearly ripping off Curt's clothes is a nice bonus, lol
Thanks for the ask @wrestlezaynia!!!!

SummerSlam Prediction and Memories
2024 Prediction:
Damien vs Gunther: Gunther
Bayley vs Nia: Bayley
Rhea vs Liv: Rhea
Cody vs Solo: Cody
Logan vs LA: LA
Sami vs Bron: Bron
Punk vs Drew: Punk
SummerSlam Memories:
First one I watched was 1991, Bret wins IC title. 1993, Luger vs Yokozuna, Luger wins by countout. 1994, Bret vs Owen steel cage match and Undertaker vs Undertaker. 1995, HBK-Razor ladder match.
1996, Undertaker vs Mankind, Boiler Room Brawl. 1997, Bret vs Taker. 1998, Austin vs Taker. 1999, main event had Jesse Ventura as special guest referee.
2000, TLC match and Rock wins title. 2001, RVD vs Hardy and Rock vs Booker. 2002, Brock wins title, HBK returns. 2003, Brock vs Angle and Elimination Chamber. Pretty much after this I stopped following the program on the regular.
Best SummerSlam for me was 1998, a fun watch from start to finish, peak Attitude Era. It's a lot of memories, looking back. Bret vs Perfect '91 is one of the best matches I've seen and so was his steel cage match vs Owen in '94. HBK's ladder match in '95 and his return match vs HHH are both up there.
I think the most iconic SummerSlam moment was the Mega Powers Hogan-Savage tag team in the main event of the first one. A runner up would be, the Savage and Elizabeth wedding that turned into hell when Jake Roberts and The Undertaker got involved.

Various WWF Wrestlers x Fem Reader- "Battle Royale"
In August of 1997, there was a "Shotgun Saturday Night" episode that involved a battle royale involving several male wrestlers.
Some of the wrestlers in this match included Hunter Hearst Helmsley, Shawn Michaels, RockaBilly (who would later become Billy Gunn), Brian Pillman, Davey Boy Smith, Bret Hart, Thurman Plugg and several others.
Granted, in real life, there was a battle royale on "Shotgun Saturday Night" that involved Hunter Hearst Helmsley, Davey Boy Smith, Mick Foley/Mankind, RockaBilly, etc. but some of these other listed wrestlers like Shawn Michaels weren't in this match.
But this is just a fanfiction I've made up.
You were Hunter's valet and helped escort him to the ring.
In this battle royale, Shawn Michaels, RockaBilly, Bret Hart, Thurman Plugg and Brian Pillman all had their long hair hanging down.
Because Hunter was still somewhat playing his aristocratic blueblood gimmick, you were dressed in an evening gown when you led him to the ring for this battle royale.
During wrestling battle royales, if a wrestler falls out of the ring, then that wrestler is eliminated out of the match.
Before many of these wrestlers---in particular RockaBilly, Shawn, Davey, Brian, Bret, as well as Hunter---fell out of the ring, you walked up the stairs leading to the ring and walked above the ring's apron.
You walked to an area where these aforementioned wrestlers were.
As you walked up the stairs and above the apron, the male fans in the audience perked up and got excited, eager to see what you would do to distract these men.
When you stopped walking and stood nearby the sexiest wrestlers in this match, with a smirk on your face, you hooked your thumbs under the straps of your dress, raised the straps of your dress up until you removed your thumbs out of the straps of your dress, which caused your dress to shed off of you, where your dress fell down to your ankles.
Your dress basically shed and popped off of you, no need for you to bend down and pull your dress down to your ankles.
Under your dress was a white silky spaghetti strapped teddy (no, not a bear) that was a mixture of a chemise and short shorts.
That teddy you wore was the same teddy Mr. Roper's niece wore on a "Three's Company" episode, this one:
Tumblr media
Placing your hands on your hips, many male fans in the audience got out of their seats and cheered when they saw you in that teddy, some of them were clapping their hands and many of the adult male fans whistled at you.
Some of the male fans were disappointed, they were hoping you'd wear a bra & thong under your dress.
While you stood there in that teddy, some of these male wrestlers such as RockaBilly, Shawn Michaels, Davey Boy Smith, Brian Pillman and others turned their heads and looked at you, where you stared back at them.
Shawn, RockaBilly and Brian couldn't help but smile and grin while they looked at you, they even wanted to walk closer to you to get a good look.
A few other wrestlers in this battle royale also looked at you with smiles on their faces, they even wanted to approach closer to you.
You interrupted this battle royale so Hunter could beat the mess out of his opponents, as well as for you to recreate a moment from "Three's Company".
Plus, it's awesome to distract several wrestlers in a match.
Not to mention, this moment of you distracting many wrestlers was like a recreation of when Miss Elizabeth pulled her skirt off at Summerslam 1988 to distract Andre the Giant and Ted Dibiase.
As many of these wrestlers were distracted looking at you, Hunter went all out and began trying to attack them, throwing punches to their faces, where the match continued on.
When the match continued again, you bent down and grabbed your dress, where you pulled it back up your body until it covered it again.
Before you shed your dress off of you, your teddy was hiding under your dress for good reason, and luckily the straps of your teddy didn't peek out before you shed out of your dress.
After you put your dress back on, you carefully walked out of the ring and down the stairs, continuing to watch this match and making sure some wrestler won't fall on top of you if he falls out of the ring.
You wish this battle royale could've had Jeff Hardy, Christian Cage, Chris Jericho, Scott Hall, Rob Van Dam, Tommy Rogers from the Fantastics, Leif Cassidy if he didn't have that tacky handlebar moustache (and his hair didn't look too awful), Nova from ECW, Sean Morley/Val Venis, Raven from ECW and WCW, Shane Douglas in 1997, Jim Powers from WCW, Jerry Lynn from ECW and even Chris Benoit.
There's other wrestlers who could've been in this match too.
But alas, those wrestlers were in other wrestling companies.
You want some of those wrestlers to be in this battle royale because they're sexy and you want to show yourself off in front of them while dressed in a teddy, although they've seen you in a teddy already, they've even seen you naked.
Actually, I wasn't sure if I should set this fanfic in August 1997, in June of 1997, at Royal Rumble 1997 in January or in the summer of 1996.

Ive been wanting to watch some of michaels matches as ive recently got into wrestling and was wondering if you had any recs for matches or fueds that would be nice to see
ooo hmm... well, feuds or matches? because I'll be honest, shawn's had very few /bad/ matches. obviously, his ones with taker at mania in 2009 and 2010 are considered the gold standard, his iron man match with bret from mania 12 in 1996, his hell in a cell match with taker in 1997, his ladder matches with razor at mania 10 and summerslam in 1995. those are the only ones off the top of my head, obviously he's had more. I've heard his match with Jericho at mania in the early 2000s and the triple threat with triple h and benoit was also exceptional. but ultimately, I don't think he ever had a shitty match before he retired. even the rockers matches were really good. as for feuds, I personally can't speak to Most of the 2000s, but his feud with trips and with jericho in the early 2000s and his fued with taker in the late 2000s are supposed to be decent, and his feuds with bret and with razor/diesel from the 90s are also pretty good. hope this helps!

WORLD WRESTLING FEDERATION MAGAZINE : DECEMBER 1999
1999 The Year of Chyna
By Kevin Kelly
Chyna has achieved what no woman was ever expected to in the World Wrestling Federation and it’s not necessarily just because of her athletic skills. Not underestimating a physique reminiscent of a leather-clad sculpture–perhaps it is because the Ninth Wonder of the World refused to listen when others said, “No.”
Chyna knew she could compete against the men, but the purists needed to be enlightened. Beginning with the Royal Rumble, 1999 has been a series of ground-breaking triumphs countered only by miniscule setbacks.
While the role of women in society continues to evolve, albeit rather slowly, the former bodyguard has seized the means of production and created her own revolution. How did this once stoic, solitary revolutionary become the tombstone by which all women in the next century will be measured and compared? It all began with a painful childhood.
In an interview in the October 1998 issue of the World Wrestling Federation Magazine Chyna described her early family life as “dysfunctional.” After leaving home at the age of 15 the future athlete excelled in high school, regularly making the Dean’s list, and later graduated from the University of Tampa (Florida) with a double major in Spanish and Literature in just two and a half years. Prospective employers like the United Nations and the U.S. Secret Service would have to wait, however.
During her college years, Chyna had discovered a talent for weight training. Combined with a lifelong desire to perform the groundwork was set, almost as though destiny had a hand in molding the sculpture that is the Ninth Wonder of the World.
Questioned many times about the prospect of competing against other women in the ring, Chyna has consistently stated that it would not be challenging enough. Trained by Killer Kowalski in a class of all-male wrestlers, even the World Wrestling Federation Hall of Famer knew that the skills of his prized pupil were far from common. Even before entering the Federation in 1997, Chyna was aware that to make an impact she would have to compete against the men.
First as bodyguard for Triple H and then the unifying glue of DX, Chyna preyed upon the weaknesses of men. Her notorious low blow proved that any man of any size could be felled like a tranquilized elephant with one upward thrust of her powerful arm. If retribution was due for the sins she had committed, Chyna knew that generally men would not want to strike out at her because of the childhood rule: Don’t hit girls. To this day, many of her victims blindly look at gender and wind up temporarily paralyzed because they are not “allowed” to hit a woman.
At the 1999 Royal Rumble, Chyna made history as the first woman ever to compete for the privilege. Having thwarted the other D-Generates, Vince McMahon stood triumphantly while Chyna made her way to the ring as the final DX member in the Rumble qualifier. No one expected her and that element of surprise has been a persistent weapon against Chyna’s opponents.
In time, however, that element of surprise began to dissipate. Chyna needed to show that she was more than just a Mexican uppercut. She did that in her attempt to win King of the Ring. With Triple H at ringside providing guidance, Chyna proved to the world–and more important, to herself–that she could do it.
As the old saying goes, “Good talent can make anyone look good in the ring.” The Ninth Wonder was in there with the best of the best, and despite not coming away with the victory in the perennial June tournament, Chyna put herself on the roster as a competitor. She was credible, believable. It appeared to be more like rediscovering the talent she had been born with than something she had learned. Chyna had evolved once again and the sculpture was almost complete.
“SummerSlam was supposed to be my time!” Triple H bellowed at Chyna after the Ninth Wonder of the World became the number one contender. Chyna would not wilt under the intense heat of the spotlight. No one doubled her spot now because she had earned all our respect.
In that same ‘98 interview, the Ninth Wonder said, “There is a lot of mystery to Chyna and she hasn’t been unleashed yet. We can do so much with my character…”
The stories that can be told about the Ninth Wonder of the World are as limitless as the imagination. Her “character,” as in integrity, is unparalleled. Chyna and Triple H are the quintessential professionals. That being said, will Chyna remain a part of Triple H’s career? There have been rumors that their partnership may be nearing an end.
When Triple H became the Federation Champion the night following SummerSlam, it wasn’t without assistance. Chyna has been a steadfast, reliable accomplice for Triple H for nearly three years. Critics of Triple H argue that the network of assistants has hindered his credibility. Would Chyna remove herself from that role in Triple H’s life in response to the critics?
Whatever future career decisions Chyna makes will not be in response to outside detractors. Throughout her life, Chyna has fought when most would have packed up and moved on. With minimal parental guidance as a young woman, Chyna completed high school and graduated from college with honors.
After stumbling onto weight training and a desire to compete in the fitness field, Chyna heard the naysayers and went on to make history on a televised event. Although the wrestling business wanted no part of her, the Ninth Wonder refused to be ignored and simply kicked the door in. Now, Chyna is approaching legendary status in the renaissance of sports-entertainment and the World Wrestling Federation–a history maker, a trendsetter, a one of a kind.
This has been the year of Chyna. Her improvement and development will continue into the next century as well. One thing is certain–Chyna will constantly stay one step ahead and keep everybody guessing what is next for the Ninth Wonder of the World.
