Summer Road Trip Day 13
Summer Road Trip Day 13
June 16
Mark 6:32-56
Key Verse: Mark 6:52 “for they did not understand about the loaves, but their hearts were hardened.”
Verse 52 is not talking about the crowds. It’s not referring to unbelievers. It’s describing the closest followers of Jesus. It’s talking about the twelve men who carried away twelve baskets of bread and fish after Jesus miraculously created a meal for well over 5,000 with just five loaves and two fish (with those twelve basket fulls as leftovers).
They witnessed Jesus’ creative power and yet did not understand how such power over bread and fish could manifest itself in power over a storm on a vast lake. They were stupefied at the power of Jesus after seeing it first hand just that afternoon. They had experienced God’s power, but apparently had simply enjoyed its benefits without taking the energy to understand its ramifications.
When we don’t take the time to understand God’s work in our lives (and simply enjoy His work selfishly) our hearts begin to harden to God’s real work in and through us.
Lord Jesus, I don’t want to take You for granted. I don’t want to just experience Your work in my life, I want to understand what You are doing. I want to guard my heart from hardening to Your Spirit and work. AMEN

Summer Road Trip Day 11
Summer Road Trip Day 11
June 14
Mark 5:21-43
Key Verse: Mark 5:39. “The child is not dead but sleeping.”
It’s obvious (from this world’s view) that little Talitha really was dead. Physically, medically her life had ended. There was no doubt. But Jesus’ perspective was different.
From the One who created life in the first place, Talitha’s life was far from over. Jesus is the author of life. Jesus is the Redeemer from death. “I say to you, arise.” Life begins again.
What would it be like if today we attempted to live life from God’s perspective?
Lord Jesus, It’s far to easy for me to look at today and see only my earthly perspective. What I want is to live conscious that I have been raised to new life in You and I want to set my “affections” (Colossians chapter two) on Your realities. AMEN

Summer Road Trip Day 10
Summer Road Trip Day 10
June 13
Mark 5:1-20
Key Verse: Mark 5:19 “Go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.”
Such as simply, yet profound command: “Go home to your friends and tell them…”
God’s command is that we go into all the world and preach the Good News, but the beginning of that begins at home. How little time we actually spend telling our friends and family about all that the Lord has done for us. How seldom do we share God’s mercies with those closest to us?
Do you want a heart of compassion that cares able those in the world far from God? Then begin at home. So compassion. Share God’s mercy. Begin to proclaim how much Jesus has done for you. Watch people marvel!
Lord Jesus, Today I want to share You with those nearest to me. I’m not asking for You to “open doors of opportunity” because they are already there. I’m not asking for You to soften my heart, because You’ve already directed. I’m not even asking for “more power” because You’ve already given me all I need to proclaim Your mercies. Today I just want to share. AMEN

Summer Road Trip Day 9
Summer Road Trip Day 9
June 12
Mark 4:26-41
Key Verse: Mark 4:38 “Why are you so afraid?”
God calls. God directs. God provides. God protects. God even gives us His presence.
So many times in our lives we see God’s very direct leading “Let us go to the other side.” (Note: Jesus even says “let us”. He’s with them!) We see His leading and then we doubt His provision, protection and most of all His presence. “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” (emphasis !!!!!!!!)
If God says He will take us “to the other side” we can rest assured that He will. Ours is to simply obey. Their issue was not that they noticed the waves or even that they worried - it was that assume Jesus didn’t care.
Jesus speaks Peace! into our storms. We can trust Him.
Lord Jesus, During the storms of today I want to trust You. During the times that I worry over making it to “the other side” of Your direction I want to trust You. When it feels like my life is flooding over with troubles, I want to trust You. I understand that storms are inevitable. They are reminders that You are my Peace! You are my Stillness. Thank You for Your peace when storms arise. And thank You that You will always bring me to “the other side”. AMEN
