SummerInYEG! UFest 2019

Not gonna lie...barely into January and I’m filled with so much self doubt.

There are things that I’m so proud of and going strong in like GH Envy. More people are tuning in, and interacting with me and commenting and enjoying which I’m grateful because I’ve been doing it so long and I’m quite passionate about it, committed to it and I absolutely love doing it but it’s other goals and aspirations that are struggling a bit. I love music, I love making it, I’ve made some songs I’m extremely proud of and I can’t even get my friends to give a shit most of the time. And on the flip side total strangers love some of my tracks. It just sets this mind set that the people that matter most to me don’t give a shit and it’s been bringing my spirits down a bit. And then there’s SummerInYEG. It’s so strange. It’s slightly successful on instagram. There are times where I go out in public and people actually get excited to see me which is totally wild! So I’m really focusing on the Instagram as a result but no one cares about the full videos on YouTube. And I work harder on those videos than I do my GH Envy ones. With Envy I’ve been doing it so long that editing is super easy even when the videos are 10-20 minutes long. But so much goes into SummerInYEG it’s truly my passion project and I would love for it to be successful on all platforms and for my friends and family to be proud of it because one of the craziest things is that more often than not the people in charge of the events that I cover will reach out to me thanking me for such footage and sharing it on their own pages and so many likes and shares from total strangers. I want to not give a shit because I’m thankful that there are people who notice but in the end I just feel like the lack of support from the people who matter most always casts a shadow on things I should be incredibly proud of achieving. Sorry guys just had to get it off my chest. Carry on.

Hip Hop In The Park 11 (2018)

This is low-key one of the coolest vibes in Edmonton to attend. It’s small, but very inclusive. Held every year at the Boyle Street Plaza, just a couple blocks away from Churchill Square, this chill vibe brings together the local Hip Hop enthusiasts of E-Town just to lay back, spit some verses on an open mic, eat some burgers and hot dogs, and create art on an empty canvas.

What i love the most about it is that every year that i attend this joint, there’s always familiar faces. It’s like a family reunion and BBQ fit with some good speakers, and artists from all walks of life coming together just to have a bit of fun.

This particular event is always near and dear to my heart, because i have been lucky to have known and grown up with many Hip Hop/R&B artists from Edmonton, and to this day, some of those artists still show up to show some love for the community. It was so important, that when i had originally decided to start SummerInYEG the series back in 2015, i made Hip Hop In The Park my first episode.

Edmonton Ukrainian Festival 2018 (#UfestYEG)

#SummerInYEG is back for the season! And we're kicking things off by going to the very first annual UFest Edmonton Ukrainian Festival! And it was nothing short of amazing! The crowd was insane, the entertainment was fantastic, and the beer and vodka? Second to none. It was my first time really getting to experience Ukrainian culture and I'm so glad i was able to go to the first UFest! Aside from a bit of rain and wind, the festival was incredibly well organized, and everyone who worked to pull this off was so friendly, and incredibly passionate about making this a memorable celebration.

This day last year I threw what I thought would be my last birthday in Edmonton with so many amazing friends at Evo. It turns out it wasn't, and that stings a little bit honestly and I'm pretty homesick for my hometown of Montréal. It didn't feel right having another big bash, so no you didn't miss the Facebook invite 😅. Tonight I'm going to @evowonderlounge lone wolf style to celebrate their birthday and mine.
