there's something about the summer - jean kirstein x reader
Tumblr media
tags: female!reader, some smut but not explicit, tooth-rotting fluff
minors/ageless blogs dni.
you were never a huge fan of summer, but a certain sandy-haired guy manages to change your mind. modern AU. title from "summer mood" by best coast. buckle up because this is a bit of a long one.
Walking away, talking all day Ooh, I want you Ooh, I want you But there is something about the summer There is something about the summer There is something about the summer
to be honest, summer was never your favorite season. sure, getting time off from school was nice, and going on family vacations was fun, but you could never say you were in love with it. that is, until you met jean kirstein.
it makes perfect sense that jean adores summer. the man is a walking ray of sunshine! at first, you're baffled when jean says it's his favorite season. how could he possibly love the hottest time of the year?
jean lights up as he explains what he loves about summer: beach days. lying by the pool at his mom's house. ice cream dates. the sun setting after 7 pm. it's such a freeing time, and makes him feel like a little kid again. (you playfully roll your eyes at his enthusiasm but secretly, your heart melts. jean is just too damn adorable.
jean, the sentimental sap that he is, is determined to make your first summer together great. the man has a document in his iPhone Notes app with potential summer fun ideas!
he's so lame (affectionate)
Jean takes you to his favorite beach, a 5-hour drive away from home. he loads up on both of your favorite snacks for the trip and trusts you with the aux cord. there's a lot of loudly singing to pop songs, even though jean, bless his heart, can't carry a tune to save his life.
you're definitely familiar with this beach in name (and through friends' Instagram photos) but you've never made the trip yourself. and after you and jean get settled into your airbnb and decide to explore, you wonder why it took so long.
the beach is located on a little island along the coast, 3 blocks away from where you're staying, and its gorgeous scenery takes your breath away. miles of sandy beaches and beautiful oak trees laden with spanish moss are there to greet you and jean. the two of you interlock fingers as you stroll along the beach and check out the pier.
jean finds another reason to love summer the next morning, when you decide to bring along a book in your tote so you can lay out on the beach and read. when you first emerge from your shared bathroom in your favorite bikini, jean has to keep his jaw from completely unhinging. goddamn, how did he luck out with the prettiest girl in the world?
it's such a good-fitting bathing suit, hugging your body in all the right spots and making your tits look amazing. jean blushes, still amazed at how you can get him so hard without even trying.
spoiler alert: you don't make it to the beach that morning - jean manages to convince you that your post-breakfast activities should involve him mouthing at your breasts under your bikini top and eating you out until your bottoms are soaked instead. (you should be mad at him for ruining your reading time but you can't be too upset after multiple orgasms.)
after a post-sex nap (jean, responsible king that he is, brought a box of condoms and some lube just in case) and a thorough session of sunscreen application (again: jean the responsible king, though the two of you also relish the opportunity to have your hands on each other again), the two of you do manage to make it out to the beach for an afternoon of lazing around.
you're reading a romance novel that one of your friends recommended to you, and jean has his sketchbook and colored pencils out. ("my little monet," you lovingly tease him, giggling when the tips of his ears turn pink and he smiles bashfully.)
after a couple of sleepy, relaxed, sun-soaked hours on the beach, you and jean head back to the airbnb, and he reveals what he's been working on. it's a picture of you, lying on your stomach as you smile at the book you're reading. the amount of detail jean puts into the drawing makes you feel warm inside. jean is so damn talented, and it flatters you to be considered his muse.
you beam at jean before pulling him into a deep kiss. "i'm so lucky to have you in my life," you mutter into his sandy brown locks, and it makes him want to melt. the feeling is oh so mutual.
the rest of the trip seems to pass by in a blur. jean is game as you pull him into vintage shops and museums, and you humor his touristy desire to go on a guided tour and chill out in the golf cart while your boyfriend plays a few holes. truthfully, you haven't been on a proper beach vacation in ages, and you're so glad jean convinced you to be whisked away for a few days.
you and jean vow to go on a beach trip every summer. he's already getting excited at the thought of bringing your future kids to his favorite beach, and your heart seizes at the thought. you'd been ambivalent to the idea of having kids at first but there's something about jean that makes you want to form a family with him someday.
one thing you and jean bonded over when you first met through mutual friends (thanks Sasha and Marco) was music, and you learn that jean is a huge summer concert fan. whether it's a big festival or just one of your favorite artists, he wants nothing more than to just vibe to the music with you. one year into your relationship, he convinces you to go to bonnaroo with him, which is huge because you do not do camping. but spending a weekend on a Tennessee farm with jean, jamming to a bunch of artists and feasting on festival food by day and snuggling under the stars by night, ends up being pretty damn romantic.
back to that first summer. jean usually spends the fourth of july at his mom and stepdad's lake house, and jean's mom insists that you tag along so she can finally meet the girl that her jeanbo is so wild about. you're nervous at first - you never know what will happen when you meet the parents.
however, all your worries melt away when jean's mom envelopes you in the biggest hug. the two of you end up adoring each other, which makes jean's heart swell (at least until he catches the two of you giggling over old childhood photos his mom has on his phone)
jean's stepdad is pretty great as well. he's an affable guy who makes a mean turkey burger and is delighted that you laugh at his terrible dad jokes. jean's stepsisters, who are both teens, love you and crack jokes about how their dorky stepbrother managed to land someone as cool as you. when the two of you are cuddled up in bed on the last night of your trip, you tell jean how welcomed you feel by his family, and he's relieved that his two worlds have merged together so perfectly.
there's so many summer memories that you and jean hold dear, no matter how big or small. you tell him how you and your younger brother used to stand out in the front yard on summer nights and watch the fireflies flit about. you both decide to check out a new custard place that opens up and become determined to try as many flavors as possible. movie dates, so many movie dates, whether they're in a theater or at home (and jean prefers the ones at home since they usually lead to makeouts). parties with your mutual friends. summer weddings that leave you both misty-eyed.
thanks to jean kirstein, you've warmed up - pardon the pun - to this magical stretch of time from late May to September. it's not like you've never had fun during summer, but this man (this beautiful sunshine boy) has made you appreciate the season in so many ways. jean embodies summer to you, and you can't think about summer without being reminded of jean.
during your third summer together, you and jean are on your annual beach trip, but something feels different. after a delicious dinner and dessert at a local restaurant, jean decides to take you out to the beach, ostensibly to get some pics of the sunset (you've gotten used to jean being your personal paparazzo by now, and you must admit, the guy takes good photos). however, once he drops to one knee and takes a small box out of his pocket, everything clicks into place for you. jean's been different this trip, still his normal goofy self, but with an undercurrent of something else that you realize were probably nerves. you can barely get any words out through your tears, peppering him with kisses.
you hear a camera flash go off and spot Sasha, who somehow managed to keep herself hidden during the proposal. you envelop her in a big hug, grateful to her for introducing you to the love of your life. you can't believe that jean is going to be yours - not just for this summer, but for every summer forevermore.

🎶 if you’re in it for love, you ain’t gonna get too far 🎶
Tumblr media
## GET TO KNOW THE MUSE :: HEATHER HOLLOWAY
NAME ;; Heather Elizabeth Holloway
DOB ;; april 16th
AGE ;; twenty
SEXUALITY ;; bisexual,, leans towards women (and very very single, hmu mfs)
🎶 oh-oh, here she comes,
watch out boy, she’ll chew you up 🎶
BESTFRIEND ;; billy hargrove ( no user found ) ,, both mutually learned about their sexualities thanks to a certain situation ,,, they still laugh about it 😭😭. they didn’t have the same friends in school so when they got jobs as lifeguards,, it brought them closer due to the dislike of kids and other details.
MORE ;;
mascara user for life, she’s got a little compact mirror and is either touching up her lashes or her lipstick while telling the latest gossip to her closest friends
heather has three pets,, since she refused her parents idea to have more kids, they settled for dogs and cats for heather. heather has two cats and a small dog, all are fluffy and have cute little quirks. and they all have places at the dinner table.
whiskers (6 years old) - she’s a calico cat with a beautiful fluffy coat, she sits a little too much like a human but whatever. she also stands like one and can do tricks very well but she’s just so smart.
tuna (4 years old) - he’s a short haired grey cat, extremely mean to others except for four favorites: heather, whiskers, chunky soup, and billy. he hisses the most but is very cuddly if you’re one of the chosen few or you’re just like him (in billy’s case.)
chunky soup (7 years old) - he’s a small fluffy white dog (not a crusty one, no heather makes sure he looks his best.) he’s been by heather’s side for a long while, sweetest dog she’s ever known. as well as sassy and stylish. always has a bow on his head. fancy lad.
MORE (80’s vers) ;; she listens to the runaways, bonnie tyler, and joan jett religiously,, got introduced to metal music through billy and it just got adopted into her taste of music
her best-friend is billy, they’re each other’s beards. heather helps getting neil off his back by posing as his girlfriend, billy helps tom get off her back by posing as her boyfriend. they don’t love the situation but hey, if it helps, it helps.
surprisingly between the two, it took heather a while to grasp she was bi. doesn’t everyone fool around with their bestest gal-pal? nope, that’s girlfriend stuff apparently.. it also didn’t help that when heather was 10, she went to a summer camp and her closest friend there was a girl named ellie that always held her hand, she was extremely over protective of her, especially of boys being near her.
one too many experiences for heather to grasp she was gay, it took her a while ok :(
MORE (modern vers) ;; it’s not too different from her in the 80’s,, though her music taste is different,,
arctic monkeys,, marina and the diamonds,, TV girl,, and a cigarettes after sex listener. especially marina, the electra album was made with heather in mind.
with billy as her bestfriend, he doesn’t use social media often, at most he has instagram only to post photos of him and heather going out. and because heather kept bothering him to make an account.
with the social media aspect, heather’s actually a instagram model, and a advertising model as well, her looks help her. it’s a great side hustle she has on the side, she’s a life guard a majority of the time. if she’s not doing that, she’s waitressing at the same restaurant where billy’s either the bartender or the busboy.
he has many, many, many messages from heather of sending him tweets or stupid tiktoks that have the little message ‘us’. She does it to bother him :))
she’s also a iphone user, and is really really good at archery on the little imessage games, it pisses everyone off.

Very personal response, as someone who was right in that middle grey area of Millennial and Gen Z, I can attest to the loss of rewatch value for movies, and even shows and games, as a consequence of streaming services. I'm old enough to remember growing up with landline phones and VHS tapes and DVDs and home videos, but also young enough that I was still in middle school when the iPhone first released. I distinctly remember my big brother buying me a copy of The Wind Waker on Gamecube when I was like 7 years old (still one of my favorite memories, love you big bro) but also remember being 13-14 and getting the pants scared off me watching the first few episodes of Marble Hornets at my best friend's house on a much smaller version of Youtube, before the days of content creators, social media influencers, and Raid: Shadow Legends sponsorships. I remember learning how to draw from books like How to Draw Pokemon and How to Draw Disney Princesses that I got at school book fairs and book orders, but also from anime bases and tutorials on DeviantArt and RateMyDrawings.
And I can confidently say that the replay value of films and movies and games and entertainment media in general is one of the biggest things we've lost in the advent of streaming services. When I was a kid in a low income household that liked to play video games, I only had the games that I owned, meaning I'd often be replaying games from my limited collection that slowly built up over the course of many birthdays and Christmas seasons. If there was a game I really wanted to play but couldn't wait until Christmas or my birthday to get - or maybe it was on a console I didn't own - I'd have to rely on whoever I was friends with at school to either play it with them at their house, or trade one of my own games with theirs (this is actually how I wound up owning my Gamecube copy of Tales of Symphonia, which I loved so much that I kept borrowing it from my friend at school, until he finally just let me keep it years later as a gift because he wasn't interested in beating it and knew I'd get more fun out of it, thanks Edmund LOL). And when that all failed? Welp, guess it's time to crack open the bag of games that I have and see what I'm willing to replay. Half the time I wouldn't even actually progress the game, I'd just fuck around in the overworld making my own stories. Many hours I've spent riding around Hyrule Field on Epona and visiting towns to talk to the NPC's in Sylvarant.
And hoo boy, did this make the experience of buying new games a whole ass event. If you were lucky, you'd get a new game on Christmas or your birthday, in which case the worst of your waiting would be getting through the festivities until everyone left so you could hole yourself up in your room with your new copy of Pokemon Colosseum. If you were unlucky, you would get the chance to buy a game from the actual game store an hour away in the city, but then you'd have to be stuck in the car and god knows where else your parents dragged you while re-reading the instruction manual for Kingdom Hearts 2 cover-to-cover and begging them to just take you home already, what the hell do you mean we're staying for the weekend at dad's friend's place-
And yeah, this was often the case with movies too, we only had the movies we owned, oftentimes on VHS tapes in a box in the basement that we would dig through when the DVD's we owned weren't cutting it. There are movies that I'm still sick of despite my fond memories of them because we'd watch them back to back just to make the time pass, especially during summer vacation when school was out and there was nothing to fill the day with besides whatever entertainment we could make for ourselves. We had a couple family friends who knew their way around a computer and were able to pirate and burn DVD's for us, but that always came with video quality that would jump from high to low, and hilarious audio glitches that almost trained us to expect them in clean versions of the film when rewatching it years later, just for us to go "oh yeah, that was a bootleg copy of Hancock, the music isn't supposed to suddenly blip out and then blip back in during the credits". Other than that, there were rental spaces, but growing up in the sticks meant the selection of rental films was limited to whatever was available at the nearby family-run gas station and the library.
If any of this resonates with you, and you now find yourself in the position I do where you're more than willing to rewatch the same movies and shows you watched as a kid but find yourself completely uninterested and almost disconnected from the sensationalized artificial hype created by studios and streaming services like Marvel and Disney and Amazon, well let me assure you, you're not alone, it's not just you. Yes, we are getting old. Yes, we are experiencing much of the same disillusionment that our parents did and their parents did that comes from simply growing older. This is unavoidable.
But it's absolutely also still worth discussing the consequences of these changes, because as it stands right now, much of that disillusionment is being sped up by the effects of the exponential technological growth and oversaturation of media around us. I'm sure this could very well be a flawed comparison, but it makes me think of the things that have managed to survive even to this day compared to the things that came around in the height of the technological boom of the mid-2000's - newspapers were around for centuries and still managed to survive the rise of radio and television until the advent of the Internet as a popular method of consumption around the mid-2000's which is when they were truly threatened to become obsolete... meanwhile streaming services as we know them today have been around for barely two decades and they're already failing, and that's nothing compared to the tech bros who are constantly coming up with new gimmicks and "miracle technology" like NFT's and AI which are often clung to immediately by corporations purely on the basis of hype and inflated promises, just to become financial black holes within a year that they then have to find sneaky ways to profit off of until something else comes along to fill their void for something "new and innovative".
Case in point, I'm not even thirty yet, I shouldn't already feel like I'm falling behind the way my parents did when they were in their 40's. That whole feeling of life being "over" at 25 isn't just psychological, it's being actively enabled by the titans of capitalism shifting the goalposts of how we interact with the world faster than ever before. I can absolutely still quote the entire script of Shrek as it's happening onscreen, but I can't for the life of me remember a single video I watched while doomscrolling in bed last night.
And this HAS had its effects on art and media, because now movies and shows are simply hype-events that people consume and never touch again, never re-analyze, never rewatch with updated perspectives. You'd be shocked how many times I've rewatched old Spongebob episodes like Squid on Strike and Selling Out just to realize that Hillenburg himself knew what was up and was both empathizing and warning the adults of that time period what was happening in the creative industry - and now those episodes are still timeless and relatable even more than they were back then because we're now living in the exact reality that such episodes were trying to warn us about. Don't even get me started on films like Idiocracy which may as well now be a prophecy uttered by ancient gods that we should have probably paid more attention to.
This effect of turning art and media into mindless "content" is even bleeding into the smaller industries as well. Within my own special interest and experience, webcomics, a virtually endless library of indie media to enjoy that isn't gatekept by industry control, is now becoming controlled by corporate platforms which pump out cheap media that's trained people to value quantity over quality, oftentimes resulting in fanbases who barely even read what they're swiping through and will deadass forget the name and plot of the comic weeks after they've stopped seeing it in their reading lists. Many of those same readers will immediately get nervous as soon as anyone even mildly criticizes or questions the content that's being consumed, often jumping on the defensive with arguments like "you need to turn your brain off if you want to enjoy the story" and "stop thinking about it so hard" and "just let people enjoy things".
I don't know about you, but as a seasoned webcomic artist myself who loves engaging with discussion and discourse surrounding their favorite pieces of media, I'd be livid if I found out my readers were saying that shit about my own work. I want you to think about it. I want my work to get your brain moving. I want you to come up with your theories even if they're wrong. I want you to re-read and change your opinions and re-think your perspectives as you re-engage with the text with a new lens that changes both over time and over the course of reading the work in full. I want you to be capable of engaging in nuanced critical discussion and thought without it automatically becoming a polarizing battle between "fan and hater". I suppose I was born just a little too late to exist in the time period that allowed projects like my own weird convoluted "work for the lore" meta-commentary shit to exist without needing to maintain a company's bottom line. Instead, I was born just in time to exist in the world that's solely serving the "turn your brain off" population of consumers who don't even realize how much their senses and thought processes have been numbed by the effects of late-stage capitalism, with only the hope that maybe there will be a renaissance within my lifetime.
The disillusionment we feel from "what the kids are watching today" isn't just a symptom of getting older. It's a symptom of all of us - as a collective society, across all the generations - getting fucked by corporations bombarding our senses for profit.
Matt Damon explains why they don’t make movies like they used to. Pls watch.

How Cute iPhone Cases Elevate Your Everyday Look
Tumblr media
In a world where smartphones rarely leave our hands, it’s no surprise that phone cases have become an essential part of personal style. Gone are the days when a case was just about protecting your phone—now, it’s an extension of your personality. Cute iPhone cases, in particular, have captured the hearts of many, transforming a simple accessory into a powerful style statement.
Let’s dive into how these charming cases can elevate your everyday look and why they’re more than just a functional item.
1. A Subtle Style Boost
Your iPhone is with you everywhere—at work, out with friends, or simply lounging at home. Adding a cute case is like wearing a piece of jewelry or carrying a designer bag. It doesn’t scream for attention but subtly complements your outfit.
A pastel-colored case pairs perfectly with a minimalist, neutral wardrobe.
Floral or whimsical prints can add a playful pop to a casual jeans-and-tee combo.
Sleek, glittery cases elevate your evening attire for a touch of glamour.
By coordinating your phone case with your outfit, you create a polished, cohesive look that feels intentional.
2. A Reflection of Your Personality
The beauty of cute iPhone cases lies in their diversity. There’s a design for every mood and personality. Are you a fan of all things cozy and soft? Opt for a fuzzy or pastel-themed case. Love quirky patterns? Cartoon-inspired designs will have you smiling every time you glance at your phone.
These cases allow you to showcase a piece of your identity without saying a word. They act as mini conversation starters, letting people get a glimpse of your vibe.
3. Seasonal and Trendy Looks
Just like swapping out sweaters for sundresses when the seasons change, you can switch your phone case to match the time of year. Cute iPhone cases keep up with fashion trends, making it easy to stay current.
Winter: Think cozy plaid patterns or cases with snowflake designs.
Spring: Bright florals and pastel colors bring a refreshing touch.
Summer: Bold tropical prints and fun fruit motifs steal the spotlight.
Fall: Warm earth tones, pumpkin accents, or leaf patterns tie into autumnal vibes.
With trendy and seasonal options, your iPhone case becomes as versatile as your wardrobe.
4. An Affordable Way to Stay Stylish
Unlike investing in high-end shoes or handbags, buying a cute iPhone case is a cost-effective way to update your look. With countless affordable options available, you can own multiple cases and switch them out whenever the mood strikes.
This makes it easy to experiment with different styles without committing to a big expense. Whether you’re dressing for a formal dinner or heading out for a coffee run, there’s a case to match.

5. Functional Fashion
It’s easy to assume that something so stylish might lack practicality, but modern cute iPhone cases prove otherwise. They combine aesthetics with functionality, ensuring your phone stays safe while looking fabulous.
Features like shockproof edges, scratch-resistant materials, and raised camera lens protectors keep your phone secure. Some cases even include extras like cardholders, built-in stands, or grip-friendly textures. It’s fashion that works for you, not against you.
6. A Confidence Boost in Your Hands
There’s something about holding a phone with a cute case that sparks joy. Whether it’s a heart-shaped design or a playful slogan, these small details can brighten your day and add a boost of confidence.
Imagine snapping a quick mirror selfie, and your phone case perfectly complements your outfit. Or laying your phone on a café table, and it looks like it belongs in a Pinterest board. It’s the little things that make you feel put-together and confident.
7. Perfect for Photos and Social Media
Let’s be real—most of us love capturing moments on our phones. A cute iPhone case adds an extra layer of charm to your Instagram-worthy flat lays or mirror selfies.
Pair your coffee cup with a coordinated phone case for that perfect morning vibe.
Use your iPhone as a prop in lifestyle shots to make your posts pop.
It’s a simple yet effective way to enhance your social media aesthetic.

From versatile designs that match any outfit to their affordability and functional benefits, these cases are a must-have for anyone looking to merge fashion with practicality.
