Bio of MY Johan summarized
Here is a post dissecting what I BELIEVED HIS INTENTIONS WERE thoroughly,
But this post will summarize his biography for those who don’t know the series.
Goodness let’s see if I can summarize him. A lot of his creation is based off of true events from history. Johan and his twin sister were created from an eugenics program started in Czech in hopes of creating the perfect human being that could be “The chosen one” to lead mankind. This is referencing the antichrist who would bring about the end of times etc,
Johan’s mother took them and escaped, forcing Johan to dress as his sister to conceal the fact that she had two kids and appeared as though she had one. Then one fateful day, “The monster” finds them and tells the mother to choose which child would they take and brutalize. They’re both dressed as girls and Johan believes the mother cannot tell them apart. You see, she never gave her own children names. At first, she was going to throw Johan to the wolves but makes a second change and threw his sister instead.
Johan was left alone in that home as his mother was taken too and he watched his sister scream and cry while being dragged away. The fact his mother made a choice is what instilled his nihilism at age 6. He was already considered a genius; remember he was created to be the perfect human.
Months pass and he waits for someone to return to him. Only his wounded twin sister does. Johan is already broken emotionally but he still shows guilt and care for his sister, having her tell him over and over and over what hellish things they did to her so that he could mask them as his own and make her forget.
The mother returns only to abandon them once again. Johan cries. Anna, his twin sister, is already broken and does not react as a normal child would. At this point Johan does not trust adults. He kills a couple that helped him and his sister when they ran away all to conceal their tracks from “the monster” finding them again. This was his entire plan set in motion to keep his sister safe – he murders at age 6 without hesitation.
They wander the border and nearly die, without a name, without anyone in the world caring for them. Johan was forced to watch his sister wither away as she begged him to call her name, but they did not have any.
(at this point they were not called Anna or Johan until they were adopted.)
They were saved. Only Johan was then thrown into another hell called Kinderheim 511, a government owned orphanage aimed to create super soldiers. Johan there was experimented on and tortured, forced to forget his memories and his identity. The only thing he begged of them was to let him remember his sister, telling them his greatest fear was to forget her. They got this information from him during his drugged state. They kept him drugged and tied in the basement because they feared what his mouth could do – he was as charismatic as Jesus or Hitler, he could sway people with words to kill themselves so they feared him. After stripping him of his emotions, his ability to understand what is right from wrong and basic empathy, Johan invokes riot at that orphanage.
He gets all the adults and children to kill each other while he just watched and then he burned the place and escaped to return to his sister. Despite the experiments done to him, he NEVER forgot her.
Age 10, Johan gets adopted but refuses to leave his sister. So the Lieberts take her too. There he tries to live life normally as Johan Liebert. Until “the monster” found them and paid them a visit. Johan out of fear that his foster parents were conspiring with those who experimented on his sister, he executes them, this time getting caught by his sister.
He was now feared by the one person he loved so he asked Anna to shoot him in the head and run so that “the monster” could not find her. She does shoot him but he doesn’t die. A Dr. saves him and when he wakes up in the hospital, he reaches out to his sister with tears in his eyes only for her to scream and faint – rejecting him entirely. For the first and only time, you witness him crying his eyes out because the only person in his world, that made him feel human had rejected him entirely.
It was this moment that he realized he was no longer a human being worthy of forgiveness – but a monster instead. He escapes with his twin sister and puts her with a family and leaves her behind, but for the next 10 years constantly watches over her.
His next set of crimes is aimed to wipe out his entire existence, masquerading as the “experimental monster” aka Chosen one so that those after his Sister would go to him instead. He kills them all, attempts to bring the country that allowed the hell his sister endured to its knees. He wants to erase any and every trace of him and the experiments so his sister could live in peace…all so she could be the one to kill him at the very end.
Only, instead she chooses to forgive him for all that he’s done and it’s this compassion that crumbles the monster he thought he was when he desperately wanted to die.
He does get shot again, in the head. But he does not die and is saved by the same Dr. who saved him before. Only, now he was no longer the Nameless Monster – he became human again.
