Sumikko Friend Review
This will be a long one. I never really thought that I will own any virtual pet that isn't Tamagotchi. But then I saw Sumikko Friend and I couldn't stop thinking about it for months, until I got a chance to buy it. It was pricey, true, but after having it for a while I can say - it's worth it.
General score: 9/10
Design
First off, I really love the design. The toy is of similar size as a colour-screen Tamagotchi, but it's way lighter. The back is flat - you can rest the device comfortably on a table or other surface, however most of the interactions use the motion sensor, so get ready to hold your new buddy a lot. It ever has little leg-like bumps to avoid scratching the back.
The screen is the same size as Tamagotchi's, but it differs when it comes to the display. Sumikko screen is way softer, with pastel colours. Very nice to look at, especially if you're a fan of pastel aesthetics. However, it's a pain to take a good photo of it - the contrast is too low to make the details of the background as well-visible as in real life. It's a shame. I want people to see how pretty the rooms and animations are! Especially since some of the wallpapers for the rooms are animated, something I've never seen in Tamagotchi.
The brightness settings are alright. The sound is a bit worse - the device is quite loud even at the lowest setting. And it makes a lot of sounds - games, animations, Friend Mode. There is always some squeaking to be done. Fortunately, the sounds are all very pleasant, so it's actually a very nice experience. Just remember to mute it in public. Another trick is to simply cover the speaker at the back with your finger - that's not really possible with Tamagotchi, where the speakers are more hidden.
The device comes with 2 covers - Tokage and Shirokuma. I will elaborate on their functions later on. Here I just want to say that they are so pretty. The designs are simple and very cute. Especially the Shirokuma cover gets me - the little ears are just adorable. The plastic used is solid, matte and smooth, very pleasant to touch.
Finally, there are 2 physical buttons and one touch one, hidden at the top of the device. The left button is used to choose, the right one to confirm, and the touch button on top is the cancel one. The buttons are responsive and nice to touch. The touch one is very sensitive and works very well.
2. Basic idea behind the device
Sumikko Friend is my first non-Tamagotchi virtual pet, so I had to adjust to a different gameplay. The most important difference is that your characters don't evolve nor grow up. You have 2 pets in this model: Tokage (a blue water dragon who pretends to be a lizard) and Shirokuma (a polar bear who moved south due to disliking cold climate.) They don't change - the goal of taking care of them is to become good friends. They don't grow old nor leave. The true fun is playing and interacting with the characters. There are a few levels of friendship and they are increased by playing, feeding and petting Tokage and Shirokuma.
Another important goal is to collect pictures of Sumikko characters, foods and toys. It's done through using traps - there are quite a lot of them. You can either buy them or get them through Outing (another feature I will elaborate on later while talking about the main menu.) This part of the gameplay is cute, though not the most engaging. I often forget about it, but once I remember, I have to admit - the Sumikko illustrations are very cute.
So yeah, your buddies won't die if you mistreat them. They might run away, though. Still, getting them back is not difficult. Generally, Sumikko Friend is not that demanding when it comes to attention it needs.
3. Sumikko Rooms and Basic Care
Here you have an overview of the menu. We'll start with the Sumikko Rooms.
There are 2 of them - Tokage's and Shirokuma's. The characters sit, sleep and play there. You can toggle between them with the left button. The right one opens the care menu. Here you can feed, play the games that use the covers, clean the room, use the shower, check the stats and go Outing. You can also give toys to your pets and change the room wallpaper/furniture.
What's important about feeding is that both characters have their favourite/disliked foods. The favourite foods will fill up the hunger meter faster, while the disliked foods will get rejected and not eaten. You can check which items are liked/disliked by each character online (I highly recommend checking out the English translation of the manual made by Fuzzy N Chic - it includes the foods and care tips too.)
Showering and cleaning the room is needed more often if you play the games a lot. Especially the room dusting is important - if you don't do it often enough, the dust will block your screen and make it impossible to play until you clean it.
Remodel allows you to change the wallpaper and the furniture in the left corner of the screen. Some of the wallpapers are unlocked through increasing the friendship meter, some are obtained through Outing. The furniture can be either bought in the Sumikko Market or obtained through Outing as well. The wallpapers are usually animated - it's a beautiful detail. The moving swing or a tree rustling in the wind are very cute.
The toys unlock new idle animations. They are adorable - I especially love the doll house and knitting ones. While knitting, the characters take a break to stare at you, which feels like a real interaction that happen when your pet realises that you're watching them play. Very sweet.
Outing is a very interesting feature. While using it, the screen shows a map. When you walk around with the Sumikko device in your pocket/backpack, the little pin on the map moves around. In the top left corner, you see the counter of the circles walked around the map. The device actually reacts to shaking, so if you want to, you can simulate taking walks by shaking it (lazy!) In the Outing mode, the characters collect food, toys, furniture and traps for catching Sumikko.
The Friend Games: there are 5 games. They are quite simple and fun. 4 of them use the movement sensor, which makes them more interactive.
Imitating Freeze: the character makes a sequence of dance moves. Your task is to repeat them but tilting the device in the right directions
Look this way: very similar to the first one, but quicker and without the sequence part. The character's face moves in a direction. Your job is to tilt the device in the same direction
Frilly Dancing: this one will make your hand hurt. Shake the poor creature up and down as fast as you can. The goal is to set a new record when it comes to the number of shakes in the given game time
Minikko Hide & Seek: the bean-shaped thing will hide in your room. Your task is to find it. Do it by tilting the device left or right. The ringing sound will become faster once you approach the bean. When you find it, the Sumikko will have a happy face. Touch the top of the cover to end the game
Smile Stop: the only game that doesn't use the motion sensor. Stop the changing Sumikko faces on a happy or neutral one. Do it by touching the top of the cover. Pro tip: the happiest face always comes after the frowned one. Once you see the frown, get ready to click
Finally, the Friend Check option is just to check the stats. It shows you the Friend level and hunger. I was slightly surprised that the stats are the last option. On the other hand, you don't really need to check what's going on - the characters will let you know what's wrong through animations.
The Sumikko wake up at 6 am and fall asleep at 8 pm. Good for students, not that good for lazy cucks who have nothing better to do. Well, the toy is meant for a younger audience, so I can't blame them. Still, I'd prefer if they went to sleep a bit later.
4. Traps
The next option in the main menu is the Sumikko catching. To start, you need some traps. The metal claw is free and unlimited, but the rest you need to either buy at the market or get from Outing. There are a few methods of using the traps - that depends on what's displayed on the screen. Sometimes you need to tilt the device, sometimes click a button. Just pay attention to the animation on the screen.
As I've mentioned in the second segment, the point of this feature is to obtain cute Sumikko illustrations. There isn't anything more to it, but it's still nice.
Sometimes, you will randomly get a chance to draw a special price, usually a food item or another trap. Also, sometimes a wild Sumikko or Minikko appears and you can catch them for free.
5. Settings
Quite self-explanatory. Here you can set the date, time, your birthday, brightness, sound, use the secret passwords and reset the device.
The remarkable thing are the secret codes. They aren't numeric, like in Tamagotchi, but consist of a few shapes that you need to arrange in the correct order. It's hard to find them, especially since the device is quite unknown in western countries, but I found this website that has some:
Also, the Fuzzy N Chic review video on YT includes the code from a gift card that was attacked to some sets. Unfortunately, I didn't get one in mine.
6. Sumikko Market
Here you can buy food, toys, furniture and traps. You'll be here quite often - Tokage and Shirokuma eat a lot. The prices are fine, so don't worry too much about that even if you don't play games too often.
The toy and furniture offer is small, since most of it is obtained through Outing.
7. Game centre
As you can easily guess, here you can find gamest. None of them demands the covers, so they are pretty comfortable and quick. I will quickly go over them here. Each game has 2 modes - easy and hard. The "hard" mode isn't really that hard, but it gives you more Sumikko coins, so usually I go with it. Interesting thing - you can play the games even once the Sumikko are asleep, Good for insomniacs, I suppose.
Shirokuma's Apple Harvest: tilt the device left and right to catch all the apples. Avoid acorns - they hurt Shirokuma and slow it down
Penguin's? Long Distance Run: tilt the device to make Penguin? run and collect stars. Reach the finish line before the time runs out. Avoid the holes - they make you lose instantly
Neko's Sumikko Eats: tilt the device up and down to avoid the bushes and eat the foods. The cat food gives you more energy than onigiri
Tokage's Gem Collecting: my personal favourite. Tilt the device in different directions to control the fat lizard as it collects the gems in the water. Watch out for the jellyfish - they will hurt and slow you down!
Tonkatsu's Happy Dance: fried bits will come from left and right. Once they are in the circle, click left or right button to throw them off
Sumikko Roulette Fortune: click left or right button to stop the roulette. Various characters give you different points. This game is the easiest but gives very few Sumikko coins
8. Library
Here you can see all the pictures/items you've collected. Each has a short description. Not the most interesting if you don't read Japanese, but they are quite adorable.
9. Friend Mode
When you put on one of the covers, your device goes into the Friend mode. The face of the character is displayed on the screen and you can interact with them. This is necessary to keep them happy throughout the day - nothing will replace physical touch. Pet them, rock them to the sides and press on their hands. They love it, especially the petting.
Pro-tip: rocking won't work unless the Sumikko is already happy. Just pet them with gentle stroked on top of the device, giving them breaks to return to regular face. Once they start blushing after some petting, it means they are happy. Then you can rock them too.
In my experience, Shirokuma is more demanding in care than Tokage - they go hungry at the same time but Shirokuma gets upset faster.
10. Conclusion
Generally, I highly recommend getting Sumikko Friend. It's unique and amazing to play with. You just can't get enough of looking at it. You can get some decent offers on eBay (that's where I got mine.) The gameplay is very different from Tamagotchi, but it's a welcome fresh breeze. I absolutely love it and it made me want to take further look into the Sumikko franchise

“1mm” is one of my favourite Perfume songs, so it’s great to hear another song from Perfume which is cut from the same cloth.
Perfume songs with an 80s sound, a bounce and a light touch of R&B does it for me.
And I cannot believe that Nocchi has a whole verse to herself. a-chan must have been feeling generous and chose to not lock Nocchi out of the studio the day they recorded this.

Monthly Music: Nov 2023 Edition
Album reviews!
Pinkpantheress: This album is truly up my alley! I think my fave tracks are the lead singles but honestly.. there isn't a single bad track on the album, though all of the songs are CRIMINALLY short. (A Kelela feature at barely two minutes??) Besides the lead tracks, I really love Another Life, Feelings, and True Romance. Anyways, yeehaw drum & bass resurgence.
Ultra: Japanese alt-rock with a female lead AND back up singer. I really love how guitar heavy their sound is, how well the women harmonize and create a nice sort of... echoing resonance that lends well to the gravitas of their music. If you like rock, especially the kind that would give a killer performance in an intimate, smokey bar, give this brand new group a chance. Inu is an intense but great place to start, Door is a great way to see how the singers play off each other, Knight is if you want something... almost Fleetwood Mac-y?
Red Velvet: Title track is good until it isn't. Will I Ever See You Again? is my fave track but Under Water, Bulldozer, and Knock Knock also stand out from an overly-cohesive album. Red Velvet keeps "experimenting" in identical ways and normally I'd argue if it aint broke, don't fix it, but while it isn't broke, it is nowhere near their old highs. 6.5/10 album. One Kiss should've been the actual comeback track, btw.
Songs:
I feel like I'm going insane... is Houdini by Dua Lupa interpolating something. It's good (but a bit... underdeveloped? Needs to do more) but like... holy shit, it's derivative. What song is it reminding me of????
Sumikko Disco by Perfume is simple, fun, danceable! Feels like a raspberry soda.
In a very similar vibe to Perfume but a bit more Current Jpop, try out Brand New World by Fancylabo.
Cobra by Megan Thee Stallion, love this music direction for her but FUCK can I give her a hug? PLEASE
Heartbeat by Wile-E. Grainy EDM. If you like Snow Strippers, you'll like this.
Mercy Killing by Pendulum x Starlxrd. From what I know of BMTH, it kinda fits that vibe but more drum & bassy. I like Pendulum trying out metal-rap, it rly fits their progression. But if you want a Rob Swire throwback, there's a new Ghosts n Stuff remix that's pretty good.
Posting this as a Part 1 because there were a LOT OF albums early this month!

Hi! I'm sorry if this is a strange or out of place ask, but you seem very knowledgable, and I was wondering if you had any advice. I am learning Japanese, and I can read quite a lot of it without issue. I don't know what any of it means, though... Like I'm seeing the words, and know how to say them, but not what they mean. I don't know what to do. Did you ever go through this? Sorry for the inconvenience.
Hi! I definitely did go through this and continue to do so. I first had this issue when I was studying N5 level material, because that tends to have mostly hiragana and very little kanji, so I could read the syllables but couldn't differentiate where one word ended and another began. There are so many words/combinations of words that sound similar that my brain really struggled to find meaning.
Now I'm studying things in the N4/N3 range and I still struggle, mostly in cases with grammatical points written in hiragana. Often I can understand the individual words, but can't parse out the overall meaning of the phrase or sentence.
My advice as both a language teacher and language learner is this:
Study vocabulary, and start studying kanji as soon as possible! Kanji is essential to meaning in Japanese. The quicker you learn to associate meaning with kanji, the easier a time you'll have. I've just purchased すみっコぐらしはじめての漢字辞典 (Sumikko Gurashi Hajimete No Kanji Jiten) to help myself review some old kanji and learn new ones.
I love using material that actual Japanese students use, and I find that starting from around 3rd grade material is most helpful because by 3rd grade they've started adding useful kanji to the text, but they still have furigana to help you read it.
If you don't have the funds to buy a Japanese exercise book like this (it runs around $27 on Amazon and I believe it is called "The Secret Dictionary of Summiko Gurashi" in English) you can find all kinds of free printouts and materials by grade on this website:
2. Immerse yourself in the language. Quite a bit of meaning is garnered through context and body language, so without these, it can be difficult to understand what you're reading/listening to. You can immerse yourself in different ways; for example, watching Japanese TV (I like to watch it with both Japanese audio and Japanese subtitles on), chatting with someone in Japanese (I used HelloTalk to find people to chat with when I was first starting out), or playing Japanese videogames. The best thing to do is do something you already like and are very familiar with in your first language, but in your target language. This way, you can add some context to what you're reading/hearing, and this will help your brain associate a concrete meaning to the language.
3. Keep a notebook in which you write down any new words you encounter. Personally, I like to keep my notebook on hand when I'm reading. If I encounter a new word or grammar point, I'll write it down to help cement the meaning in my brain. Don't expect to remember everything the first time you read or hear it! While some people are proven to have an aptitude for language learning and can pick up new words and their meanings almost immediately, most of us can't, and some of us struggle harder than others. That's totally okay! Again, you need to find some way to associate the words you're learning with their meaning. Different methods work for different people.
4. Try putting the new words/grammar you've learned in action! Once you've studied something, practice producing that language yourself. You can do this by writing in a diary, or by recording yourself saying it, or using the word/phrase in a conversation with someone else in the target language. This will also help the meaning to stick in your brain better!
5. Keep going! Don't give up. Language learning is not a linear process. You will have periods of progress and periods of stagnation (these are known as language learning plateaus). It's natural. And just because you feel like you aren't making any progress doesn't mean it's true. Set an attainable goal for yourself ("I am going to read this book about cats" or "I am going to play Mario Kart in Japanese") and keep working towards it a little every day, and you'll find you're improving more than you think.

Sumikko Atsume Review
Finally, my completed Sumikko Atsume review! I have included pictures from my ongoing vpet log for visual reference. Keep in mind that this a holistic review of the device - not a comprehensive guide. If you want more specific information regarding device functions, I would suggest you check out the guide by Fuzzy N Chic.
Overview
The Sumikko Atsume is a charming little device. It is large and plastic (about the size of my palm), but not clunky. In fact, the plastic feels quite durable. There is a thick protector over the screen, which can be removed easily to switch out the faceplate. Faceplates are interchangeable, allowing you to customize the device to your liking. My copy came with two separate faceplates, each with a design on the front and back. The buttons are also plastic and generally register well with a simple press. Response time is speedy. The device itself makes pleasing noises like wind chimes. Volume can be muted at any time and the brightness can be adjusted. “Shaking” is an important mechanic for gameplay. The device feels satisfying to shake, creating a soft clicking noise.
Characters
All character are from the Sumikko Gurashi brand. They consist of:
Tokage - a blue dinosaur
Penguin? - a green penguin that might actually be a kappa
Tonkatsu - a leftover piece of fried pork cutlet
Neko - a calico cat
Shirokuma - a shy polar bear who hates the cold
Character interaction is fairly simple, with a scrolling menu allowing you to feed them, pet them, dust their room, and dress them in simple accessories. There are small character animations that you will see throughout the day. Sometimes Tokage will be playing with a little sailboat or Shirokuma will be drawing. There aren’t many of these animations but they are cute nonetheless, and they express character personalities wonderfully.
(Above: Penguin? listens to music)
If you’re looking for an involved pet simulator, then you will be disappointed. The character care mechanics here are quite straightforward, with a simple meter indicating affection level. Higher affection unlocks accessories like party hats and bow ties. Unlike tamagotchis, there are no evolutions and characters cannot die, lowering the necessity for consistent care. When neglected, dust bunnies will invade their rooms. Characters ultimately feel more like friends than pets.
Goals & Games
The overall goal of the device is centered less around raising characters and more around unlockables. Initially I was skeptical about this type of game play; however, I’ve warmed up to it. You choose from a variety of easy (yet charming) minigames to earn points.
Among these minigames, there is a tilt-sensor maze, a music game (like DDR) and a fishing game. The fishing game is my favorite! Points earned from games can be spent at the shop on traps and food. Food raises character affection, and traps help you unlock more character portraits.
The portraits themselves are adorable and varied, including main characters and side characters. Below, I have included some of my favorite character portraits I unlocked over the past few weeks.
You can view character portraits at any time, and there’s something satisfying about watching your collection grow. That said, I wish these portrait outfits were wearable by characters. I also wish that there was an interior decoration feature for character rooms. Complex character customization would have made my interactions with them feel more personalized.
Concluding Thoughts
The Sumikko Atsume is incredibly cute. The animations alone are enough to make this device a worthwhile experience - though they are limited. While some of the mechanics are a little shallow, such as customization and care, the collecting system is pleasantly rewarding. One of my favorite characteristics of the Sumikko Atsume is its low maintenance level. The device does not punish you for negligence, making it especially manageable to run if you have a busy job. I also cannot praise this device enough for its appearance, sound effects, and design. I can foresee myself running it often just for its soothing effect. While I cannot recommend the Sumikko Atsume to someone hoping for a challenging virtual pet experience, I can recommend it to anyone who appreciates its aesthetic and its collection-oriented premise.
Thank you for reading!

First closer look at Sumikko Friend: without the cover it's roughly the same size as Tamagotchi, however it's significantly lighter. The plastic is thinner. The screen is roughly the same size. The pattern around it is simplistic but very cute ( especially the little bean buddy.)
I'm charging up batteries so I'll run it tomorrow. Expect a full review once I get a grasp of the mechanics 🌟

Cutie Reviews: YumeTwins October 19
I wasn’t feeling well yesterday for some reason, but today I feel better; my game came too!
“October is here and it’ll soon be Halloween! Halloween might be traditionally spooky bu you can always count on Japan to help kawaii-ify even the creepiest of things. We searched long and hard through plenty of scary and spooky items to find those with that perfect mix of monstrous and cute just for you! We hope you’ll love the Halloween Festival box this month! Don’t get too frightened!“
Photo Contest and Yume Prize
This month, the Prize heavily pays attribute to Kuromi and My Melody in honor of their involvement with the content.
Meanwhile, the Photo Contest focuses on Agretsuko carrying goods, including two shoulder bags and coin pouches.
My Melody x Kuromi Festive Halloween Pouch
Our first item is perfect for getting you into that festive mood, featuring a cute Halloween party design that features My Melody on one side, and Kuromi on the other:
I’ve always been a Hello Kitty girl, but I love Kuromi ♥ she’s so cute~
Meanwhile, I think this would be a nice pouch for a variety of uses. It’s a decent size, and it even has a pocket, so I think it’d be perfect for things like makeup items, stationery, toiletries, or just various little items you want to keep nearby or organized.
The fabric also feels really nice and of good quality, the zipper works smoothly. I’m thinking I might use this to help organize some of the contents in my drawer. Even though I removed a lot of stuff from it, I feel like with so much space its harder to find things :P
Sumikko Gurashi Squishy
Legit Japanese squishy make me SO happy ♥ especially if its as cute as this one! For this month we had a chance to get 1 of 2 food-based Sumikko Gurashi Squishy, both of which featured Shirokuma on a pudding, or dressed as a yummy onigiri/rice ball. Who is my favorite besides Neko (in case you’re new to the blog and haven’t heard me say that yet) from the series.
As you can see, this squishy comes with a gold ball chain so that you have the option to make it a keychain if you would like to bring it with you. I probably won’t do that because I usually don’t bring my Squishy anywhere, I like to keep them in safe locations, nice and clean.
It’s very soft, in terms of squish speed it took about 15 seconds to puff up back to normal. It has a strong generic squishy scent (not like rubber or plastic, but its different from that “powdered soybean” scent) but I assume if kept out of packaging it would probably fade. I like the scent I don’t really have any complaints. It’s very crisp looking, the seam is just barely messy in a few really tiny spots, and I did notice mine has like... a small fault on its face. You might be able to see it in the pic next to the left eye. I tried pulling it off but I don’t want to risk removing the paint (and not scrap material like I thought initially), so for now it’s staying.
If you like Squishy I would recommend this little guy if you can find him, I’d recommend checking their online store, Japan Haul.
My Melody x Kuromi Folding Comb & Compact Mirror
Our next two items are the perfect buddies for the pouch we got earlier :3 they’re also very handy for on the go emergency mirror touch-ups you may experience while out of the house. I’ve gotten a couple of these before but it’s been a long time, so it will be fun to swap out my old ones.
As you can see, both the mirror and comb were made to match each other, as well as the pouch. I really like that detail and find it to be aesthetically pleasing ♥ Plus I love the glittery coating.
Okay, so honestly I never use combs. I have long and thick hair and they do not work for that- they either break or just hurt. BUT these are perfect for my bangs, which often get messy or like to curl in weird ways whenever I least suspect it. So it comes in handy while I’m out. The mirror also can lean with its lid to be hands free, and while small, it’s easy to see all the facial details.
Sumikko Gurashi Halloween Lamp
This our last item, a really cute new Sumikko Gurashi Halloween-themed lamp :D there are 3 variations, each pink, but featuring a different image and a character on top.
If you read my previous blog review then you might recognize the image they used from the drink cup we got. Basically, I think this is a “default SG pic“ they use and just modify to fit the scenario. Nothing wrong with that, but I only really took notice of it while observing this.
Here is the character I got:
Not my favorite, but I seem to get him almost as much as Neko and Shirokuma; it’s very rare for me to get Penguin?, and I never get Tonkatsu.
The character on top does something very special~
Cool huh?! It also changes colors!
The lamp requires x3 AA batteries to work, luckily I had some from my Kirby Lamp I got a few months back so I just swapped them out. As much as I love my Kirby lamp I really like this one too, it’s soothing to watch the image feature, and the light is a nice, vibrant white in comparison to its warm yellow.
♡ Cutie Ranking ♡
Content - 4.5 out of 5. Everything is strongly useful, in that I mean I will use them quite frequently. Everything was also cute with just that tiny hint of spookiness; which was my only issue. I wish the spookiness factor was a more prominent because I love cute-scary things, and this felt more... child friendly Halloween if you know what I mean.
Theme: 5 out of 5. Everything goes together perfectly, and it has a heavy Halloween vibe! They did a great job!
Total Rank: 10 out of 10. I really liked everything that we got :3 I’d recommend every item!
♡ Cutie Scale ♡
1. Squishy - I love squishy and I wish we got them WAY more often. I shall cherish this as much as I do the sleepy bear I bought from Japan Haul~
2. Lamp - I love it! I especially like how Neko is dressed as a black cat and Shirokuma looks like a vampire x3 two of my favorite things. The light feature is really fun too!
3. Halloween Pouch - This will be a great addition to the drawer I’m having trouble keeping straight. I love how soft and smooth it feels~
4. Mirror - This will come in handy, I’ll be swapping my old one out right after I post this :3
5. Comb - As I can only really use it for my bangs it’ll probably get the least use out of everything.
Okay guys, that will be it for now! I hope you enjoyed the review, next up I actually have 2 GachaGacha Crates to review so stay tuned until then!

Rement: Sumikko Garashi Market
Another new set! I wanted more groceries.
More food with faces, but I had high hopes.
I could get these...
or these.
I got this - which is not exactly prime pantry-filler, but the soda and the wasabi may come in useful.
On the leaflet you get a receipt, some vouchers (unless Sumikko Market prints its own money...) and these odd little grass-tuft things that I assume are sushi dividers?
These two are cute but probably the least useful things in the box, unless I make a diorama with a doll that’s into collectables. That’s possible. They’re about the right size for that.
Here they are from the front. I really don’t know the premise behind this particular San-X cartoon, by the way. Something about shy animals? Anyway it sounds cute and way more comprehensible than Gudetama.
Now this looks like something I can use! It’s a bottle of cola, it looks pretty realistic, I can put this in my doll’s kitchen and imagine they actually bought this at the store. I like this.
This also is a useful thing - it’s way too much wasabi for just the one bento box so I guess it’s going to have to go in with the groceries. So sad.
So let’s see, am I identifying these right - one of those pieces of nigiri has omelet on it, one has... salmon? No, not salmon, that’s way too dark, it’s probably beef. But I don’t know what the white fish is. Cod? The one with the little orange lumps is definitely salmon roe but IDEK what the other one is. I sort of wish they didn’t have faces, though. I might paint them out later.
Here they are in the box. The little sticker came seperately and you have to put it on yourself. I think this looks great but the problem is that the lid doesn’t fit very well and the moment you nudge it even slightly, everything goes flying - it would be nice if it clicked shut.
And here it all is together! Looks like a good meal. Speaking as someone who has to pay £8.50 to get to Manchester* if I want to have sushi, I would totally eat this.
*I just found out today this is because neither Yorkshire nor Lancashire wants to be responsible for the Summit Tunnel so going through it costs a fiver a time, so screw private train companies, honestly.

09.12.18 // lil aliexpress haul! not everything has arrived yet, but i’ll make another haul & review when i get the rest of the stuff. more under the cut.
white gel pen - i got this for lettering (you can see it here), and i think it works pretty well. sometimes the ink bunches up at the tip but no big deal.
muji-like pen - i am going to order more of this, it writes so well and i love the look!
0.38 gel pen - 6 pack ink refill (white and purple pen) - i love these pens, now i just re-order the inks which is great. these are super thin!
pluto memo pad - these were supposed to come with a paper back thing, and i am disappointed it didnt. the memos themselves are rather thin, but the designs are so pretty! not bad for the price, but the quality is lower.
petit prince & ancient poetry stickers - i love these sticker boxes. i can't wait to incorporate them into my spreads
sumikko gurashi stickers - i love these but there is one downfall, it is so hard to get the plastic backing off of them.
plant washi - i wanted this for awhile, and boy do these look good!!! i love them so much! i would recommend you guys to buy, the only negative is the roll is around plastic instead or cardboard so its a bit thicker looking compared to my other washi.
succulent washi - i love this one! it looks so much nicer than it does in the packaging.
star tape - this was so cheap, it isnt washi though, just regular tape with stars on it. not bad considered it was like 12 cents.
if you want anything else next time i do a review (swatches or something), let me know!

As expected, JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 dominated Japan's box office last weekend. The 105-minute film earned a strong 1.622 billion yen (14.11 million USD) on its first Saturday and Sunday, which was 9.54 times more than the opening gross of The King's Man, which debuted in second place.
The film, which is based on the JUJUTU KAISEN manga's "volume 0" story, was released in Japan on December 24, 2021, and made 2,694,128,150 yen (23,546,058 USD) on 1,908,053 admissions from its three-day total. It was the second-biggest three-day opening weekend gross in the history of Japanese cinema, behind only Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train, which recorded the three-day opening weekend gross of 4.6 billion yen (40 million USD) in October 2020. Only with its first weekend gross, it has already become the 11th top-grossing film of 2021 in Japan, as with the 25th James Bond film No Time To Die.
Meanwhile, the film ranked second on Filmarks' first day satisfaction ranking with an average rating of 4.23 based on 6,339 reviews, behind Arata Oshima-directed political documentary Kagawa Ikku.
Eiga Sumikko Gurashi: Aoi Tsukiyo no Mahou no Ko (Sumikko Gurashi The Movie: A Magical Child of the Blue Moonlit Night), the second anime feature film inspired by Japanese stationery company San-X's popular mascot character brand, still ranked ninth in its eighth weekend, bringing its total to 1.11 billion yen (9.66 million USD) with the 900,000 ticket sales. As the fifth and last bonus item, theatergores from December 31 will receive a "New Year's card from the wizards" newly drawn by the film's art director Kaori Hino.
