About my research project and my primary sources
First, I have to admit that I struggled a lot to find a relevant and interesting subject. But with my knowledge of popular music which I think is not so bad, I finally got one.
So for today’s post I wanted to focus on my research project which is about the legacy that punk rock left behind. Indeed, it allowed other styles of music to emerge, such as pop punk, which was a major phenomenon of the 90s and which set the pace for my youth (and I'm sure many others). I chose this subject because I really liked the punk rock but I even more like the pop punk especially with so many iconic bands (Sum 41/Blink-182/ Jimmy Eat World/ New Found Glory/Green Day/The All-American Rejects/Good Charlotte, etc.) that I personally discovered through video games (Tony Hawk Underground 2), movies as long as I remember as American Pie or TV shows like One Tree Hill. Through this style and others, it shows that punk rock is still alive but now takes other forms. That is why I wanted to do my research on this genre which gathered so many artists that everybody knows about through movies, or TV shows that used many songs of this genre.
In this matter, the primary sources I chose to use are the second album of Sum 41 « All Killer No Filler » and the third album of Blink-182 « Enema of the State » but also some video clips notably of "Fatlip", "In Too Deep" by Sum 41 and "First Date" by Blink-182.
Here is the link of these video clips : Enjoy !

My final research project
Hi,
Since I wasn’t able to do my oral presentation about my research project last Tuesday (which I apologize) I will do it here on tumblr as suggested by our teacher, Ms Grassy.
As such, my final project is about the legacy that punk rock left behind.
In other words, I wonder in what ways the original punk scene allowed the emergence of his later subgenre, pop-punk, and how the latter re-uses the codes of punk rock through its lyrical themes and the aesthetic of it.
In order to achieve this, I will be mainly focusing on the video clips and the albums of some of the most iconic bands from the pop-punk scene and the original punk rock scene. Therefore, as primary sources for the pop-punk scene I will rely on the second album of Sum 41 « All Killer No Filler »,the third album of Blink-182 « Enema of the State », their fourth album « Take Off Your Pants and Jackets » but also some video clips notably of "Fatlip", "In Too Deep" by Sum 41 and "First Date" by Blink-182.
For the Punk Rock part, my main focus will be on what is considered to be the first punk rock band : The Ramones. But I will add some NOFX discography, Green Day third album « Dookie » and why not a band that I particularly love since my childhood, The Offspring through lyrical analysis of their song and also video clips from YouTube.
As secondary sources, I will rely on the chapters of the Negus that we dealt in class, notably Audiences, Industries, and Identities. I mal rely on Politics but I'm not quite sure if it fits to the subject.
