Travel Tips with SD/SBF
I just returned from a 10 day trip with SBF! This is my 3rd trip in about as many months with a different SD/BF each time. It’s also my longest one. One thing I do not regret is packing 21kg worth of clothes and shoes to bring to New York.
1. Pre-Travel Preparation
Flying to USA (from UK)
You will need a ESTA as part of the US Visa Waiver Program to travel to the US. It costs about $14 and takes 1-2 days to clear. If you have a passport from one of the ‘banned’ countries 👀 then you really do have to get a proper Visa.
Itinerary forming
Don’t leave it up to your SD completely. I made a google docs table with at least 3 places I wanted to visit in each section of art, culture, cuisine etc. SBF was super impressed (and probably thought I was insane).
Warning- Security
At the airport we were asked security questions.
1. How we knew each other
2. What our jobs were
3. (To me): What my bf’s full name including middle name AND his date of birth. 👀
Luckily I stalked him so often that I knew it, but seriously. You need to know this about your SD before you fly with him! If he won’t tell you, let him know that this could happen. They were VERY serious about my answers at the airport and would have restricted us from flying if I messed up. It was clear that they seriously thought SBF was trafficking me?!
2. Clothes and shoes packing!
I looked up a few travel blogs online about packing for a week in NYC. It was all useless! Like 2 blouses and 2 jumpers? Something silly like that which isn’t suitable for a SB who aims to dazzle.
Day Clothes 🌞
- One top for every day of the week you are there. I managed it even with bulky winter jumpers.
- 1x Black jeans
- 2x Skirts, shorts etc for more temperate destinations
Good and affordable brands: Zara, Topshop, Forever21. The usual suspects.
Evening outfits 🌙
If your SD has business dinners or just enjoys fine dining, you will need to dress the part.
- 3x evening dresses that will function either at a Michelin star restaurant, the hotel bar or the opera. Classy but still sexy.
- 2x slinky tops which can be paired with jeans
- 1x skirt to match both day and evening tops.
Shoes
- Regular walking boots that would survive a city walking tour
- Elegant heeled boots or platforms which will elevate a day outfit to night
- Heels. A must! Match every evening outfit
- Trainers for the gym or just regular walking
Bags
1. Backpack e.g. Kanken, Chloe Faye for the airport.
2. Evening bag- you can bring out the Chanel or YSL, but consider bringing a more low-key bag or unbranded one as well. You don’t want to get mugged when out clubbing
3. Day bag- I think LV Pochette Metis or Gucci Disco are perfect for the art gallery/museum culture vulture look.
Extra
- Bikini for hotel pool
- Gym outfit
- Jewellery should be sealed into separate clear plastic bags to prevent tangling
- I brought my own hairdryer to be extra
- Portable chargers with travel adaptors are a must
3. Hotel room etiquette
- Keep makeup and skincare under the sink with the towels always packed in their respective makeup and toileteries bag. I have matching marble ones which are super elegant ❤ Don’t leave stuff strewn around which makes it difficult for SD and housekeeping to navigate!
- Pooping. If you’re massively bothered, make it a habit to go the gym or pool in the mornings and use the changing room bathrooms. I usually managed to do it outside haha.
- Always repack clothes into the suitcase after you’re done with them.
The ultimate question is: Can I pack and leave this room within 1.5 minutes? The answer must always be yes.
4. Stay safe
- Always have someone know exactly where you are and check in with them
- Bring your own money. Both in regular currency and that of your destination country.
- Have enough in your account to fly yourself back if you must
5. End of the trip
I always bring a card with me to write a thank you note. Not for the ones that are married! But SBF really loved the card and small gift at the end of the trip. Keep it simple and thoughtful, as well as reflective of the whole trip rather than a generic gushing mess.
Of course, always be appreciative throughout. Thank him when he buys you things or when he takes you out to dinner.
Trips with SDs
…can be enjoyable but also an extended exercise in performance art. You will become more adaptable and resilient than before. However, you are exposing all your vulnerabilities by being with this man day and night. You could fall in love with this man who is showing you the world.
Or not, if he is a total toad. You’ll definitely be forced to grow closer by the end of the trip, so capitalise on it. I would use this opportunity to deepen the relationship from regular ppm arrangement to monthly allowance if you haven’t already. If things have been clinical, this trip could make it romantic. A long stay with your SD is what you make of it ❤
