je voudrais jouer un jeu, s’il vous plait
Might I suggest The Extraordinary Adventures of Baron Munchausen, an improvisational storytelling game of danger, romance, and talking shit about the French? Players assume the roles of aristocratic adventurers and take turns spinning implausible stories about their various heroic exploits, while the others act as audience and interject their own nitpicking objections by spending game currency; the speaker may either reject the interruption with a sharp (and mandatory) insult, or go double or nothing by incorporating the objection into their tale. Intractable disagreements of fact are to be resolved via duel – which the text is quite clear means live steel, though less lethal alternatives are grudgingly permitted for the benefit of cowards and children.
(Also included are a variety of alternative milieux, rules for team play, and a tabletop implementation of Mornington Crescent, because why the hell not?)

I decided instead of "change something" my new year's resolution is going to be about "learn something," so I'm going to learn the names of plants and how to identify them, especially ones native to my area.
That’s awesome and a fun and interesting goal!

My understanding is that the 19th century serialization format pressured authors to write A LOT to keep the story going, which led to wordiness, convoluted plots, and a whole lot of filler. So that's Dickens's deal. I love his style and humor but his books definitely suffer from the above problems. Same goes for Melville. Fans will fight me on this, but that damn whale book did NOT need that many chapters of random whale info. He just needed the money, and I can't blame him for that.
yeah but elizabeth gaskell was actually pushed to condense her storyline for serialization so what’s dickens’s excuse for un-condensing? (i mean to be honest here i’m not really invested in finding out why, i haven’t read any dickens so i don’t care it just seems weird you know?)

@suchprettypride I have no idea! It’ll prolly be anywhere from a sentence to a paragraph to a scene tied, however vaguely, to the prompt
#I'll see how it goes#honestly it'll ultimately depend on my schedule#the one thing I know is that it won't#be poetry bc I hate writing poetry#¯\_(ツ)_/¯#I'm bad at planning things#but I hope if you decide to do it it goes okay for you!#suchprettypride#replies

Neil Gaiman's Norse Mythology is really just that -- it's stories from Norse Mythology as retold by Neil Gaiman. It's my favorite set of retellings, not just because I love Neil Gaiman but also because most retellings come off pretty dry, since they're trying to stick to the bare bones of the story as we know it, but Gaiman, being a story teller, really tells them as STORIES, gives them a little more character than usual.
oooooohhhh it’s a collection! okay i didn’t know that but now that i do, my next library pick up will definitely be this one!

bad touch //from sideblog abominablesandman
2) Punching your muse in the face
This guy had been getting on Bobby’s nerves since the moment they first crossed paths. He didn’t even know who the man was, but his scarred face was getting to be all too familiar.
The sarcastic comments didn’t help, either; he didn’t appreciate being mocked by someone who he didn’t know, and didn’t have a reason to get to know any better. And God only knew why - or how - the little ass kept showing up anyway.
Then he showed up at a bar while Bobby was on a job, and just hearing the far too recognisable voice made the hunter’s knuckles start to itch. He was several drinks gone - definitely enough to get his temper up - and at the next crack, he didn’t even hesitate. He just turned and swung his fist as hard as possible straight into that unbelievably infuriating face.

My family rented a house by the beach and just chilled there for three days with like zero expectations. It was SUCH a relaxing change from the usual. Also, I randomly picked up a copy of Breakfast at Tiffany's on the way there, and it got passed around and almost everybody read it, which was a totally unplanned lovely little thing to share!
I can’t imagine celebrating Christmas Day in a warm climate, but I love everything about your get away!

@suchprettypride does that answer your question?
Thought it made more sense to make it a post so anyone can see it.
Duolingo vs busuu
I just got a question about why I use duolingo and busuu, thought I would make a post instead of just answering.
I mainly use the mobile apps, so if you use the websites this might be a while different story.
Duolingo and busuu are very similar, you match words, write words, speak words in an attempt to learn a new language.
I started using duolingo and find it straight forward and simple, translating back and forth between two languages and building up your vocabulary.
I use busuu for two main reasons which seperate it from duolingo enough that I think they work well together.
Firstly as you can see in the images, busuu goes an extra step, with explanations of why and how grammar and sentences work. Duolingo seems very “this equals that” while busuu is a bit more “this equals that because”. If that makes any sense.
The other reason I also use busuu is because regular lessons involve recording your voice or a typed message and sending it to people fluent in the language you are trying to learn. They can then grade and give you advice and even record a message and send it back.
I am new to this language thing, but I feel more sources the better, regularly use two or three apps, read stories or article, depending on the language you are trying to learn you might even find you can change the audio of your favourite tv show on Netflix to the language your are learning.

🌀 // from sideblog abominablesandman. hope this is all right, i just find it easier to break ice by dropping memes
((perfectly alright! Which point int he timeline would you like? ))
Could taste my own blood. The water hadn’t washed all of it away yet. Not a new taste, but didn’t think I’d ever get used to it. My face felt swollen. Reminder to self, don’t try to get into a boxing match with a Minotaur. Not that I’d tried. He kind of was just there. There, and big, and very upset with my intrusion into the labyrinth-like tunnels of Undertown.
Luckily, I’d found my way out thanks to a tunnel and the fact that even with my size, his bulk doubled mine. Tight squeeze, but made it. The fact that he’d thrown me through a wall in order for me to find that tunnel pure coincidence. My shoulders could attest to just how lucky I’d been not to have my back broken from the impact.
Looking down at myself I looked and smelled terrible. Almost as bad as the Minotaur had. My ankle, likely broken or at least sprained, made the idea of getting up and walking a flitting dream. Who knew how many other bruises might cover my body. Luckily my dark clothes saved me from having to look and I hurt all over. Far as I knew my skin had completely gone from pale to black and blue. Not the greatest fashion choice I’d ever made.
The thought made me laugh and it hurt, but I couldn’t help it.
Just a few minutes of rest and then I could hopefully get to the hospital or a payphone. Didn’t even know where I’d ended up. Don’t really have a map for the entrances and exits of Undertown.
