DESPICABLE LIES INCOMING!

hello everyone. the merriam-webster dictionary defines "game" as "a physical or mental competition conducted according to rules with the participants in direct opposition to each other" [1]. notice that it's a competition with rules and participants are against each other. naturally, if one were to see a "gaming" channel, one would assume that games were played on said channel, no?

AND YET! the youtube channel "DanAndPhilGAMES" misleads and manipulates its audience with false advertising. as if the name itself isn't enough, the channel has been referred to as a "gaming channel" by its creators [2, 3]:

so, surely it is not the fault of the audience if they assume that this channel involves playing games. however, let's take a look at their previous four videos:

is reacting to so-called phan twitter a game? is forcing someone to watch tiktoks a game?? MUST I BRING UP TURNING SOMEBODY INTO A PIG??? it's plain to see that DanAndPhilGAMES hardly includes gaming at all. however, at this point, it should be no surprise that daniel howell and phil lester love lying.

untruthfulness is their drug and they've been high since 2009.

even their video titles themselves contain lies! in the video "Saying Goodbye Forever," (which, again, is not a game), DanAndPhil announce that, in fact, they are not saying goodbye, but rather bringing the channel back [4]! their deceitfulness has gone on for far too long. now more than ever, we must rise up against the youtube duo known as "phan." we must demand justice! NO MORE LIES! NO MORE LIES!

Okay, this has probably been done a million times already but hear me out: Ive got an idea. For a story.

What if, one day, Dan wakes up, with an unusual headache. He gets up, but he is in a home he doesn't recognize. It's all his stuff, it all seems familiar but it seems wrong. First and foremost, because Phil isn't there.

He checks his phone, but he doesnt recognize most of the contacts. The names in his calendar dont ring anything.

He takes a google search, just, you know to make sure Dan and Phil exist? But he only finds the channel AmazingPhil, a kind of big youtuber with a million subscribers doing fun sketches every now and then.

The only search result for Dan Howell is the lawyer Daniel Howell who deals with financial sueings.

And Dan finds out, over the next hours, that in this universe he and Phil never met. He never had the guts to reach out and even tho he loved Phil's content they never talked. And now, coming from a world where they did, where Phil is his missing half, his partner in crime, his immortal turtle, he does everything to go back there and to find Phil in every timeline.

on the left im 10 or 11 years old. It’s 2008 or 2009 and i had just discovered this guy who makes funny youtube videos called amazingphil. in 2011 i eventually subscribe to danisnotonfire. Oh man it really went downhill (uphill) from there.

On the right im 25 years old. This is the most recent picture of me. I’ve been watching dan and phil for more than half my life and ive made friends because of them. Ive had a career because of them.

It’s crazy to think about looking back.

Hi!! Sorry for taking a bit to reply as well, I'm not sure I actually know how to word this without upsetting someone in some way so I've been thinking about it and I still might fuck up, BUT I'll give it a shot:

in many ways way back in the day, after they became "Dan and Phil" instead of AmazingPhil and his twink boyfriend Dan, or just "Phil and Dan" if you're boring) the public perception seemed to be that Dan was the famous cool one and Phil was... just Phil? People thought he didn't look as good as Dan a lot (which.... mental!) or that Dan was the Interesting one in a way? Even though it started as the opposite cause Phil was already somewhat known when Dan entered the scene, it shifted a lot over the years, to a point that people wouldn't watch Phil or care about him, besides the phan aspect of him, even well out of the "we're different people" era.

Of course I wouldn't say it was a majority of their audiences, but there was a good chunk of Dan's audience that didn't care for Phil in general (as you could see from their huge subscriber gap) which also reinforced the argument that Phil was somehow the lesser one out of the two of them. In fact, the amount of Phil love we see these days absolutely warms my heart, cause I remember a time when people who truly appreciated Phil for Phil and not just Phan where a much smaller number.

So this comes down to the I'm just Ken thing. A lot of the times people perceived Phil as just the other guy from Dan and Phil, cause everyone was obsessed with Dan. I feel like he's always been incredible at giving Dan his moments, ofc, but at the same time it stung everyone who cared about him how much some parts of the public didn't care about him and treated him like "just ken" in a way, yk? Only interesting when part of a set with Dan, not individually.

Anyway if you remember the absolute NIGHTMARE that was Dangirls.... if you know you know! lmao You've been through War and I appreciate it, comrade!

I think Phil's friends might have been concerned that Dan was using him for YouTube fame. There were some old posts shading Dan that made me think that might have been the case. There was also a video I found ages ago where someone said "maybe I should suck amazingphil's dick so I can get 1000 subscribers" which was an obvious dig at Dan.

that’s definitely the case for some of the hate! i think about the matt g video a lot because he was friends with them till ~2010 and i don’t think he thought of dan as a social climber more than anyone else who associated with phil at that time, but still a handful of years later he was sharing in a livestream that dan is the worst person he knows and how he knows other people who think of dan as an asshole. dan used to be kind of a dick and he’s admitted that time and time again, i think maybe he just really put some people off
