Sega Mega Drive - The Adventures of Batman & Robin (European Version)
Title: The Adventures of Batman & Robin
Developer: Clockwork Tortoise
Publisher: Sega Europe
Release Month: June 1995
Catalogue No.: 1535-50
Genre: Brawler Action
Tumblr media
Released in 1995 towards the end of the 16-bit era. The Adventures of Batman and Robin, based on the cartoon series of the same name. This was one of the MD's last games and one of its best!
The game begins with a beautiful opening scene. In which Mr. Freeze breaks out of Arkham Asylum. He also releases The Joker, Two-Face, and The Mad-Hatter. The Dark Knight is going to have a long night. The game consists of four stages with each villain as the final boss. Each stage as many levels. The Batman and Robin are both playable.
During the stages, you take out tons of enemies with batarangs and fists. From the streets of Gotham to the skies. This is one action packed game. It is also one of the hardest games you are ever likely to play. It plays not unlike Contra, but Batman and Robin can take more damage than those guys. Stages consist of tons of baddies, ending with a boss. The battles with the villains are always the most fun. With the exception of Two-Face who you fight in a helicopter. I guess he did not have the balls to face you in person.
The graphics are as one would expect from a late Genesis game are amazing. The sprites are small but well-detailed. The backgrounds have a quasi-3D effect and look great. Lighting effects are also very good for a 16-bit game. The opening and ending cut scenes are incredible to look at. They look exactly like they were taken from the show.
The sound and music are tight. Unlike what certain websites claim, the music is great. It all has a house music feel to it. This is due to the game not using GEMS at all; instead it uses a sound driver from Zyrinx that, if you've played Red Zone or Sub-Terrania you would know that Zyrinx are one of few western companies that really made the Mega Drive sing. The sounds are convincing. Voice clips from the show would have been nice but it is only a 16-bit cartridge game.

Jogos Mais Únicos do Mega Drive
Exo-Squad Parte jogo de tiro estilo After Burner, parte shooter lateral com uma mira e jogabilidade não-convencional, além disso tem um modo versus que é em estilo de luta 2D só que novamente bem diferente do habitual. Baseado no cartoon homônimo. Herzog Zwei Um dos primeiros RTS, um jogo bastante influente, ter modo para dois jogadores torna ele único. Sub-Terrania Esse jogo lembra um shmup…

Walt Disney Donald Duck #180 (1977, Western Publishing Company)
In “A Real Goat Getter” from 1962, Huey, Dewey and Louie find a lost goat and brings him home as a pet. Pretty soon it eats Donald out of house and home. As it turns out, the goat is the pet of the Sultan of Faroffistan and is offering a reward for its return. “The Baddie in the Cabbie” from 1962 finds Donald as a cab driver who foils a bank robbery. The next story is interesting in that it showcases the expansion of the freeway system across the country and how houses and businesses were taken by the government. It’s from 1961 and Donald is a barber whose notice to vacate his home and shop comes unexpectedly. Donald and the nephews must find a new place to settle. The art by Tony Strobl is really good in this one. “Bad Bounce” from 1961 is a one-pager. There’s also a text piece with Li’l Bad Wolf from 1961. All the stories are fair but not in the top quality of Carl Barks.

Nova #6 (1994, Marvel)
Part 3 of “Time and Time Again.” The Sphinx is back (or rather “they are back” as there are two of them now, a male and a female). The two immortal beings are seeking sole control of the universal force known as the KA. The New Warriors are separated and flung through time and face their own adventures. Nova finds that Earth in the future is a decimated ruin and locates the Nova of this planet. Meanwhile, Rage confronts the slave trade. Also, Firestar has ended up in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692 and is accused of being a witch. In the final chapter of this issue, Chord, Sprocket and Hindsight Lad are in New Warriors headquarters, or crash pad, and must create a new team of New Warriors!
Each story is good but too short and Nova has less than half the pages of this issue dedicated to him. It’s kinda fun but pretty forgetful. Video game ads for Sub Terrania for Genesis and Champions World Class Soccer for Super NES and Genesis.
My Rating: 6

Sub-Terrania in Sub-Ten
youtube
After about two months of grinding, I finally reached my goal of beating the Genesis game Sub-Terrania in less than ten minutes. This game gave me hell as a kid, so it was very satisfying to come back and destroy it. Take a watch!
