Meursault’s Origins

Hello everyone! (Or the approx 4 and a half people who will view this!)

I was wondering recently why Meursault’s appearance in the anime/manga looked so damn familiar and it FINALLY clicked tonight! And I decided to share my likely insane revelation. Hint: It involves someone we already know.

My theory is that Meursault is an experiment that was based on Arthur Rimbaud’s ability “Illuminations” and then later perfected after the war had finished. From what we know about the Great War in the BSD Universe it involved a fair amount of ability users! From spies-- Arthur Rimbaud, Paul Verlaine, to medics-- Yosano Akiko, Mori Ougai, to soliders-- Fukuchi Ochi, Fukuzawa Yukichi, even experimental life forms designed to turn the tide of a war-- Nakahara Chuuya. Basically the whole war became a clash of abilities so strong and volatile that it nearly tore the whole world apart. And who do we know who is fantastic at containing volatile entities/abilities and served in the war on the side of France? Mr. Randou himself.

Exhibit A: The location of the prison itself. France is the known origin country of Arthur Rimbaud. He served the DGSS in it’s field operations division for many years there and remained loyal to them until losing his memories. I always found it odd that Meursault was in Western Europe since most of the major conflict arcs take place locally in Japan but this could explain the significance. Meursault itself is also a French word which could be another tie or simply a clue to its precise location.

Exhibit B + C: We know that Illuminations is capable of containing extremely powerful abilities within its hyperspace AND capable of restraining Dazai when needed. Rimbaud literally retrieved an entity who defies the laws of physics in the form of Arahabaki and was also easily able to work around the possibility of nullification when battling Dazai in the Fifteen Arc by simply encasing him within a sub-sub space of his ability.

Exhibit D: French researcher Pan and the existence of Black No. AKA Paul Verlaine. We already know that experimentation was happening in France at the hands of a citizen and that when the DGSS became aware they halted it. However, we know that the information gathered by these trials was not destroyed as it falls into the hands of the Japanese Government a short time later leading to ...

We don’t know exactly why the information was never destroyed. Unless there was reason to keep it under government power rather than riding the world of unethical, immoral instructions on human lab rats. Something like using it in further experiments themselves?

Exhibit E: This is likely painfully obvious but it just looks similar! The yellow, glowing, floating squares evoke the same imagery. Which I admit could be a coincidence and why the cells are rounded rather than squares in the anime ... but the yellow, shimmering look is interesting.

Now ... why would such a thing be needed? And why would such a thing exist specifically in times of war? Well I thought about and decided that maybe Meursault has a darker history than we imagined. I wonder if Mersault was designed to house prisoners of war. A prison that could entrap any ability user for an indefinite period of time sounds rather helpful when the enemy has strong Gifteds, right? Imagine Mori’s troops without Yosano Akiko or Japan losing Fukuchi Ochi’s Mirror Lion ability for combat? It could easily turn the tide of the war if enough ability users were removed from the battle field. It’s only once the war is over that it is converted to a maximum security prison

And maybe all the other sneaky experiments contained within its walls are halted ,,, dense water anyone? It would suck to be waterboarded with as an enemy spy or to surround important locations where you do not want enemy forces marching into. Interesting technology at the very least and quite possibly the result of another gravity manipulator? Someone else we know? Such as Paul Verlaine, another French spy who was involved in experiments himself? It’s all very intriguing, my friends!

Stormbringer (And 15) spoilers ahead!!

Ough, Rimbaud becoming a singularity for Verlaine haunts me. I'm 99% sure Paul would be able to use Illuminations, now, but it opens up avenues for so much angst! Like, does he just activate the sub-space to sit in it, because Illuminations is Arthur's; At it's core, it's just as much his home as Rimbaud himself was, and it's all he really has left of Rimbaud in that way. Not to mention, the fact that Chuuya's, and by extension, Verlaine's, ability don't work in Illuminations. It'd be the ultimate safe-space for a man who believes himself to be less then human, somewhere he can be really be truly, actually, a person. Guivre can't affect him, there.

Concept: Executive Ace was a spy.

So I saw one of those bsd characters nationalities lists. And for some reason I was surprised by Ace being British.

Even though I shouldn’t be because I know his ability comes from “The madness of George III.” He’s very obviously British and I am embarrassed.

But it got me thinking because as far as we know there’s only been 2 other non Japanese members of the Port Mafia.

Arthur Rimbaud and Paul Verlaine who are both French.

Rimbaud’s the one I’d like to focus on because he was also an executive (sub executive in his case) like Ace.

And both of them hid their real names. Rimbaud went by Randou and Ace’s real name has to be Alan Bennett. Because he’s the one who write the playwright Ace’s ability gets its name from.

Rimbaud kept his name a secret because he was a spy. So what if that’s the reason Ace kept his a secret too. Ace in general is such a weird character. He’s never involved himself in any conflict despite being an executive.

And well, he’s an executive.

I get his ability is cool (read: horrific) and all but damn Mori your standards really slipped huh? Hired a man who hates you and thinks you’re a terrible leader and has no loyalty to your organisation.

What because he bought in his way in?

So I’m just like what if he was a spy like Rimbaud. His goal being to destabilise and destroy the Port Mafia from the inside. And that’s why he tried to recruit Fyodor to help him overthrow Mori.

And why he had a list of all the Port Mafia’s weaknesses.

Maybe Mori figured him out and kept him close for that reason. Then again Mori doesn’t exactly have the best track record with realising he has spies in his organisation.

And Fyodor deemed him a necessary sacrifice to his goal. I mean it’s not the first time he’s killed a Brit in this series so might wanna keep an eye on that Agatha.

I dunno there’s just something weird about Ace for a guy who shows up just to be killed. Though I know I’m probably reaching so who knows.

Keeping Up with the Port Mafia: Lore Edition

I might or might not have a favoured spot for the Port Mafia and Asagiri definitely has the habit of dropping lore and timeline all over the places, so I thought I'll compile an everything-we-know-about-the-PM (and some speculation maybe?) post in chronological order (mostly for my own reference). For easy timekeeping, time posts are converted to years-before-present aka Chapter 1 of the main manga, and characters' ages at the time will be in brackets, eg. Dazai (14). There will be spoilers for canon materials up until June '22 (to be updated if we get something new).

Let's categorise the PM history into three main phases: (1) Before Mori, (2) Mori's entrance and MPMGA (Make the PM Great Again), (3) Dark Era and the Present PM.

1. Before Mori (?? – 12 years ago)

Not much is known about the mafia during this period. What little is known, though, paints a pretty terrible picture. The Port Mafia was the biggest and most powerful underground organisation in Yokohama, but the previous boss was described to be violent, sadistic, and grew progressively even more insane and unpredictable towards the end of his illness, and his rule was described as a "bloody tyranny."

One [..] day, the residents of an entire housing complex died when their water tank was poisoned on the off chance that a rival organization's executive was hiding there. And on yet another day, the previous boss issued a citywide notice that anyone who spoke ill of the Port Mafia would be put to death and anyone who reported such talk would be rewarded. The entire city spent the next several years engaged in a witch hunt with everyone suspicious of one another. Yokohama became a city of traitors; over a thousand people were executed, many of whom were apparently known at the time to be innocent. (Dazai, Chuuya, age Fifteen LN)

While he maintained the power of the PM, the previous boss also caused the reign of terror over the city and directly led to its instability, as shown by smaller gangs taking advantage of the PM's reputation to sow more chaos without repercussions (Ch. 50, Fukuzawa and Mori's flashback), as well as the rise of groups like The Sheep, originally formed to protect orphans against the Yokohama underworld. We know he treated his subordinates terribly, through the story of Kouyou (14?) and her mysterious man (Ch. 37), how most men had deserted the mafia by the time of his death, or how Hirotsu, probably the most 'traditional' loyal mafia man, barely blinked when he heard proof Mori cut the previous boss's throat (Ch. 33). It was also implied he didn't know how to use his subordinates efficiently, as Randou, with his OP subspace ability and presumably above-average intelligence even after losing his memories, was only relegated to a low-level grunt during his reign. This serves as contrast to Mori, who promoted Randou to sub-executive immediately after his ascension to PM boss.

What other main players were doing at the time:

During the Great War (?? – 14 years ago), Mori (?? – 26) served as the JPN army doctor, while Fukuzawa (?? – 31) served as a government assassin alongside Fukuchi, until the former quit. For unknown reasons, Mori left the military after the war to work as an underground doctor and informant, where he (28) met Natsume-sensei sometime 12 years ago.

Fukuzawa, after quitting assassin work because he was enjoying killing too much, worked as a bodyguard until he encountered Ranpo 13 years ago (the events of Untold Origins of the Detective Agency). 1 year later, to protect Ranpo, he (33) approached Natsume sensei for a Skilled Business Permit and was introduced to Mori (Ch 50, flashback). Both men undertook their first mission together at the manor and were then inducted into the Tripartite Plan. We also know both of them shared hatred for how the previous boss ruled the PM.

Dazai's whereabouts at this point are unknown. Fifteen LN suggests he and the previous boss were familiar (antagonistically) with each other, but whether it's due to them having known each other before Mori or purely due to Dazai's association with the doctor after he was 14 is hard to say definitively.

After the Arahabaki incident 15 years ago, Chuuya (7) joined the Sheep and acted as their 'leader', while Verlaine (age?) defected from his previous job as a French spy to become a rogue assassin

Oda had gained infamy working as an assassin in Yokohama since time unknown until he (14) read Natsume Souseki's novel, was approached by the man himself about writing the ending, and then quit assassin work 14 years ago. He continued doing odd jobs before the events of The Day I Picked Up Dazai (Side A) bonus story

2. Mori's entrance and Making the PM Great Again (12 years ago – 5 years ago)

Members initiated, by chronological order: Mori Ougai (personal physician, boss), Dazai Osamu (member, executive candidate), Nakahara Chuuya (member, executive candidate), Sakaguchi Ango (accountant, Special Division for Unusual Powers spy), Paul Verlaine (member, trainer), Oda Sakunosuke (low-level grunt)

Members lost: previous boss (assassinated by Mori), Randou/Rimbaud (betrayal, killed by SKK), the Flags and others (killed by Verlaine/Guirve), 84++ members and executive member 'Colonel' (killed in Dragon's Head Conflict)

12 years ago: Sometime after Fukuzawa's and Mori's first mission together, Mori managed to gain employment as the PM boss's personal physician and Fukuzawa's somewhat established the ADA with Ranpo as its only member (Ch. 66, their info boxes)

11 years ago: However, at the time, the previous boss was presumably still lucid and had the full backing of the PM members, which must have led Mori to believe the "most optimal" option to take him down was through force. Having no manpower of his own, Mori remembered his botched Undead Army plan during wartime and searched out Yosano ("3 years after the war" Ch. 66), which led to the breakdown of his and Fukuzawa's partnership. Upon Ranpo's invitation, Yosano (14) officially joined the ADA.

8 years ago: Without Yosano, Mori continued to bide for time while the PM's brutality continued. However, during this time the previous boss's illness grew worse (naturally? or did Mori poison him with something slow-acting as his plan B??) making his actions more volatile. Regardless, the previous boss started losing the trust of the PM members, as well as the PM's standing in the underworld due to increasing casualties. The time was ripe for a takeover.

It was then that Dazai (14) came into Mori’s care after a suicide attempt. Recognizing Dazai’s intelligence as an asset (and missing the fact that he can’t be trusted), Mori enlisted Dazai’s help to plan the assassination of the previous boss. Their plan carried on without a hitch, and Mori (32) succeeded as the Port Mafia boss (this might just be a hint towards Dazai’s real past; after all, people don’t send just any suicidal kid to the care of the mafia’s private doctor)

7 years ago aka the events of Fifteen LN: Mori had successfully removed the previous boss from power, but the succession was not smooth; he lacked trust from the factions still loyal to the previous boss, the mafia still lacked resources and talents due to the previous boss's action, and they were losing territories to rivals (Takasekai, GSS, Sheep). However, after the "Fake Predecessor" case, Dazai (15) and Chuuya (15) officially joined the PM and worked under Mori and Kouyou, respectively. With their help, Mori would go on to regain control and expand the PM.

Sometime during this period, Ango (19) joined the Port Mafia as a spy for the Special Division for Unusual Powers.

Two years ago, Ango went to Europe for business after he had been in the mafia for a year and gained their trust. (Dark Era LN pg 68-69, suggesting Ango joined the PM 3 years before its events.)

6 years ago, part 1 (Assassination King's Incident aka events of Stormbringer LN): Verlaine came into town looking for his 'brother' Chuuya (16). The resulting conflict resulted in heavy casualties for the PM, with 5 executive candidates (the Flags) and many ability users dead, and forced them to withdraw their influence significantly in the Yokohama underworld to protect them from the government's scrutiny. However, it was not a total loss: laying low would later help them through the DHC, they gained yet another government-level secret weapon in Verlaine (though his ability was significantly weakened), and Chuuya now knew how to activate Corruption (this can also be considered a turning point that secured Chuuya's loyalty to the PM as well as continued to build momentum for Soukoku's later infamous partnership)

6 years ago, interlude: Dazai (16) went undercover to investigate the rumours of a powerful figure in the city and ended up establishing a friendship with Oda. Upon Dazai's invitation while they were drinking in Lupin, 'Odasaku' (21) joined the Port Mafia (The Day I Picked Up Dazai, Side A short story.)

6 years ago, part 2 (Dragon's Head Conflict): An 88-day war occurred in Yokohama's underworld over a 500 billion yen inheritance. Due to laying low since the Assassin King Incident, the PM got away with the least damage in the beginning of the conflict. During this time, Dazai and Oda befriended Ango, thus began the trio's friendship until Dark Era. The Special Division brought in Shibuwasa (23?) intending to end the war, but he turned on them, started his own organisation, and made the casualties worse in his quest to acquire ability gems. He was eventually confronted by Dazai and Chuuya (16) and believed to have died when Chuuya used Corruption (Dead Apple multiple adaptations). This was implied to be the first time 'Soukoku'/Double Black term was coined ("[Chuuya and Dazai] destroyed an entire organization in one night" - Ch. 30) and marked the end of the DHC.

After the end of conflict, [the Port Mafia's] influence expanded rapidly in the burn-out underworld. Like a young tree after a forest fire that was remarkedly growing without the sunlight being obstructed. (Stormbringer LN, translated by @/Chibikko_Chuuya)

4.5 years ago: Dazai (18) was made executive, the youngest in mafia's history. On the same day (The Heartless Cur short story), he professed to come across the news that a PM sub-organisation killed all of Akutagawa's friends and after baiting them to kill each other, successfully invited Akutagawa (16) and his sister, Gin, to join the PM.

(Note: the "4.5 years" was taken from Beast manga, where the same event happened except Beast!Dazai rejected Akutagawa to take Atsushi as his protégé instead. Since it is assumed Beast!Oda picked up Akutagawa the same time as canon!Dazai picked up Atsushi by the river, the length of time should apply as well?)

(to be confirmed) According to the order of events listed chronologically at the end of Stormbringer LN, a 'Sneering Lemon Incident' was supposed to take place between Dazai's promotion to executive and Mimic Incident. This might be when Kajii was recruited to the PM.

4 years ago aka events of Dark Era LN: Mimic came to Yokohama after getting Ango (22)'s information, which was actually manipulated by Mori (36). Everything went according to Mori's plan: the spy Ango was removed from the PM after exhausting his usefulness as a Special Division liaison, Mimic was removed with minimal casualty as Oda (23) would not have contributed much to the PM when he refused to kill, and the PM obtained the Skilled Business Permit, which would free them from most government interference and basically solidified their uncontested position as ruler of Yokohama's underworld. It is heavily implied Dazai (18)'s defection was planned as well, though Mori's reason was never stated definitely.

The organization had received an item of great value, something that more than made up for the total pecuniary damage and loss of talented subordinates. That included Dazai's disappearance as well. Logically, the results couldn't have been better. Everything was going according to plan. (Dark Era LN, Mori's PoV)

(The surface meaning of the above quote suggested Dazai was another calculated loss like Oda, while Dazai said Mori was afraid he would be usurped by Dazai. However, the words "logically", the fact the position is left open for Dazai, and how Beast manga implied Mori wanted to 'save' for Dazai, could also suggest Mori saw Dazai was getting worse the longer he stayed in the PM and wanted to kick him out for his own good?? Debatable.)

Interlude: Sometime after Dark Era, Tachihara joined as a spy for the Hunting Dog to replace Ango's position as the designated government spy, and Higuchi joined as well (reason unknown). Sometime after that, Chuuya (age?) was promoted to executive position, as Akutagawa and Higuchi were seen already working together when he received his gift from Mori for the promotion. At some point before present, Verlaine (age?) was also promoted to executive.

Su sueño era crear un centro de investigaciones puramente dirigido por máquinas porque sabía lo irracionales que podían ser los humanos para llevar a cabo investigaciones.

Piano Man le confesó a Adam que todavía no podía confiar en él debido a que temía que filtrara información sobre la Mafia a su propia organización. Sin embargo, Adam prometió que su única misión era arrestar a Verlaine y que no planeaba interferir con nada en el futuro. Pero Chuuya no estaba de acuerdo ya que pensaba que Adam estaba mintiendo.

En respuesta a ese gesto, sus amigos se sorprendieron de que Chuuya los considerara compañeros, haciendo que Chuuya se arrepintiera de haberlo dicho y sintiera vergüenza.

“Seguiré tus ordenes.” Adam aprovechó la oportunidad y tomó a Chuuya debajo de sus brazos como si fuera un paquete, saliendo del bar y cargandolo por toda el área residencial como si estuviera volando.

“Quisiera que alguien me sostenga así también.” Doc suspiró mientras observaba a Chuuya alejarse del lugar con Adam.

“Lo siento mucho. Pero esta es la mejor manera de transportarte de acuerdo a tu tamaño.” Dijo Adam.

“¡Voy a hacerte lamentarlo! ¡Todavía estoy creciendo!” Gritó Chuuya.

Con la ayuda de la habilidad de Chuuya aterrizaron seguramente en una iglesia abandonada que había sido previamente destruida durante la Gran Guerra. Chuuya recibió una llamada de Piano Man.

“Estoy bien.” Chuuya respondió.

Piano Man le dijo a Chuuya que terminara sus asuntos lo más rápido posible ya que el jefe solicitaba que asistieran a una reunión. Chuuya contestó y la conversación terminó.

Adam le explicó brevemente a Chuuya la situación, mostrándole una foto tomada durante la coronación en la Catedral St. Paul, Londres, tres años atrás.

En la foto se observaban tres soldados que habían sido asesinados en la misma catedral. Ninguno de los hombres poseía espadas ni tenía rastros de sangre o heridas de bala. Eran simplemente hombres tirados en el suelo como si estuvieran dormidos, solo que no lo estaban. Estaban muertos.

Adam le contó que esos soldados pertenecían a la guardia personal de la Reina y que eran miembros pertenecientes a la Orden de la Torre del Reloj. Uno de esos soldados había destruido una organización entera en una noche en el pasado, así que se suponía que eran bastante poderosos y difíciles de matar. No obstante, todos habían sido asesinados por Paul Verlaine.

No se habían encontrado heridas internas, pero sus huesos habían sido partidos en 1128 piezas al mismo tiempo. Chuuya estaba en shock cuando Adam le contó que eso era casi imposible de hacer.

La escena del crimen tomó lugar durante la coronación y se sospechaba que el objetivo inicial había sido la Reina. Afortunadamente, la Reina estaba a salvo, pero la reputación de la Orden de la Torre del Reloj había sido severamente dañada.

Por eso mismo, el Dr. Wollstonecraft envió a Adam a que hiciera una nueva investigación sobre el incidente y encontrara a Chuuya. Adam sabía que Verlaine buscaba a Chuuya así que pensó que lo mejor sería encontrarlo a él antes que Verlaine llegue. Así podría arrestarlo.

“¿Así que básicamente soy la carnada?” Chuuya preguntó, haciendo que Adam lo admitiera.

Chuuya se rehusó a asistirlo diciendo que, si Verlaine intentara acercarse, él podría encargarse solo. Una batalla se desencadenó dentro del auto. Chuuya no podía respirar ya que el control de gravedad de Verlaine aplastaba sus pulmones con el objetivo de detener la circulación de aire y hacer que su cerebro colapsara.

“No recuerdo tener un hermano Europeo.” Dijo chuuya

“Te equivocas,” Dijo Verlaine “No soy Europeo ni tampoco humano. Soy exactamente como tú.”

“¡No!” Chuuya peleó con su habilidad.

Chuuya siguió insistiendo que él era un humano y que había crecido en una granja junto al mar ya que eso era lo que sus amigos le habían mostrado. Pero Verlaine lo negó diciendo que esa información era falsa, fabricada por la milicia.

De repente, Adam hackeo el auto y lo hizo girar a la izquierda, haciendo que el auto se estrellara contra un camión lleno con gasolina, creando una explosion en masa.

“Los humanos se equivocan al utilizar la palabra “Soledad”. “ Dijo Verlaine “No conocen absolutamente nada sobre la verdadera forma de la soledad. Creen que no tener una familia o una persona con la que conversar es la soledad.”

“Pero el verdadero significado de la soledad” Verlaine prosiguió con una voz suave y dulce como si estuviera cantando “Es vagar por el universo y observar las estrellas fugaces en plena soledad en el vacío. Con cero posibilidades de que alguien te encuentre o te alcance. Con el pasar de cientos de años sin oír ningún sonido. ¿Puedes comprender el significado de ese sentimiento? nadie puede mejor que tu, Chuuya.”

“Ven conmigo Chuuya” Verlaine le ofreció su mano. Adam le insistió que no lo hiciera.

“Es cierto, entiendo el significado de tus palabras a la perfección.” Dijo chuuya “Pero antes de responderte, quiero preguntarte algo.” Chuuya prosiguió. “En la llamada que tuve recién con piano Man me dijo que el jefe les había encomendado un trabajo. Contesta, ¿a dónde fueron esas cinco personas?”

Verlaine rió. “Asumo que no necesitas a esos viejos amigos.” Verlaine abrió el compartimiento del auto y dentro de este, algo hizo un sonido raro. Los ojos de Chuuya se abrieron de par en par.

Era el cadáver de Lipmann.

Chuuya gritó, perdiendo el control, golpeando continuamente partes de su alrededor, gimiendo y gritando de dolor. En ese entonces, Verlaine tomó a Chuuya de su cuello y tiró la fotografía que se encontraba en el bolsillo de su traje.

“No hay manera en el mundo de que me puedas agradar.” La voz de Chuuya temblaba.

“Altas ondas de energía con Radiación Hawking detectadas.” Adam dijo el código predeterminado y apuntó balas hacia el ceño, ojos, garganta y brazo de Verlaine, pero las detuvo a tiempo y las apuntó de nuevo hacia Adam generandole un dolor punzante en todo el cuerpo.

Al mismo tiempo, Chuuya gritaba violentamente como si estuviera perdiendo su alma. Era como si el infierno se estuviera desatando entre las llamas negras. Eran exactamente las mismas llamas negras que habían aparecido en Suribachi. La alta energía condensaba los alrededores, incluyendo los edificios cercanos. Una gran esfera con Chuuya en su centro. Chuuya sentía mucho dolor mientras su piel se agrietaba, sus órganos colapsaban y sus ojos se rompían. Era una energía tan grande que distorsionaba tanto el tiempo como el espacio.

Sin embargo, una persona logró mantenerse al lado de Chuuya. Una persona con un abrigo negro y su cara cubierta de vendajes.

“¿Podrías por favor morir de manera más limpia?” Dijo Dazai. Luego tomó a Chuuya de su muñeca y canceló su habilidad gradualmente hasta que perdió la consciencia.

Chuuya apenas recordaba haber sido cargado en la espalda de Dazai todo el camino de vuelta al bar de billar. Cuando despertó, Chuuya sintió un olor fuerte. Era el olor de la sangre.

Cuando ingresó al bar encontró a Piano Man, Ice Man, Albatross y Doc muertos. El bar era un desastre, como si un huracán hubiera pasado por adentro. Chuuya vio el cuerpo de Doc partido en dos, su parte de abajo no estaba en ningún lugar a la vista. Luego encontró a Albatross quien sostenia su ultimo aliento, aliviado cuando Chuuya lo encontró.

“Pronto estaré muerto.” Dijo Albatross “Chuuya toma mi moto, esta en el garage, es toda tuya.” Esas fueron sus palabras finales.

“Voy a ayudarte.” Chuuya le dijo a Adam lleno de determinación “Voy a encontrarlo pero no lo arrestaran. Voy a matarlo.”

“La mafia no perdona a nadie que asesine a mi familia.”

As a new member of the Awk-Squad, I thought it was my duty to answer this questionnaire by @awkwardbsd !

(Nick)name? Preferred pronoun?

In public, I have two nicknames I’m most comfortable with — Linkle, which is one used by everyone, and Tippi-chan, which is a nickname given to me by a dear friend of mine on another site and has only ever been used by him. I like both of these, but Tippi-chan I consider to be a more familiar way of addressing me that I associate with people to which I’m very close.

I’m a girl, so she/her pronouns, please, when you’re referring to me and not my muse.

Birthday?

That’s a secret to everyone except my closest friends, and I’d rather it stayed that way. ~

How would you describe yourself?

I would say that the way I present online and the way I present in person is very different; online, I enjoy socializing through writing and overall am just a very outgoing and talkative person, while offline, I am extremely introverted and would much prefer to speak and carry on conversation through text than audible words. In both cases I am shy in my own ways.

Don’t ever expect to audio or video chat with me, sorry; that’s completely off the table.

Hobbies/Interests?

I love writing analyses, meta, theories, etc. about my favorite series; I also write fanfics, RP, draw, play video games, watch my favorite shows, and run several different blogs. There are honestly too many things to list here.

Fandom wise, my biggest interests are Bungou Stray Dogs, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, Legend of Zelda, Ace Attorney, and Doctor Who (up until Series 10 of NuWho), and although I love them all nearly equally, it would likely be in that particular order if I had to choose. I am extremely opinionated and firm in my beliefs, but I also have no troubles socializing with people who have differing opinions and respecting them greatly.

I love music in general, and my tastes are all over the place.

Are you a fan of anime? If so, what are your favourite ones?

Um, am I the only one who thinks that’s kind of a silly question, considering I’m a member of the Awkward Squad? Yes, obviously, I am. My absolute favorite anime is Bungou Stray Dogs, without any equal. I also enjoy Persona 5 the Animation, Mushishi, and Noragami, though truthfully I don’t watch very much anime outside of BSD.

I do like Diabolik Lovers as a series a little, but I wouldn’t list the anime as being one of my favorites though I’ve finished watching it, and I’ve only watched some subbed playthroughs of the games; I’m not that into romance and mostly just appreciate the characters themselves to some extent.

Do you ship? If so, what is/are your favourite ship(s)?

I do ship, although given I’m ace, for me most of my ships tend towards the platonic side even when they’re romanctic; I’m fairly innocent minded as a general rule.

You can learn most of my primary ships through a certain section on my main blog’s directory, but in general my biggest ships from BSD are Platonic! Odazai (Dazai x Odasaku), ChuuArt (Chuuya x Randou/Arthur Rimbaud), AkuHigu (Akutagawa x Higuchi), and Kyouka x Atsushi (which I’m not sure of the official ship name for). Yes, I know, most of my main ships are rare pairs and some a bit controversial, but I love them all dearly.

Favourite Character(s)?

Dazai, Odasaku, Chuuya, and Randou/Arthur Rimbaud are all my equally loved BSD babies. 💙

I also adore Yashiro Tsurugi from Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, Clay Terran from Ace Attorney, and Link from the Legend of Zelda.

If you could bring any character to life to become your best friend (or partner), who would it be?

I couldn’t possibly choose who to bring into this world, because all of the characters I love most have someone they deserve to be happy with, so I couldn’t separate them.

Maybe Shad from the Legend of Zelda, because we could do Historical work together.

If you could have any superpower (it can be from an anime, movie, video game, or anywhere really), what would it be?

I’m happy with who I am and the abilities I have just to speak to others this way and do the things I do, but if I had an ability other than those, I think it would be one to peaceably stop wars and have everyone just be happy together. It’s corny, I know, but it’s true.

How many posts do you plan on posting a day?

I’m not sure. It depends on the day. I have a lot of drafts to clear out in my main blog, but I imagine it should be a fair number of posts even from here, so long as there’s content and people wanting to interact with me.
